Ok, what did I do. I installed SwiftKey X, it was working, then I moved it to my SD card and it was no longer working ,my Evo 3d kept defaulting to the Swipe Keyboard. So I moved Swiftkey back to the internal memory and still the same thing. I can't figure out how to get the normal or the swiftkey keyboard back.
I would uninstall then re install the app.
Nevermind figured it out. Looks like when you move SwiftKey to the memory card it disables it. So you have to re-enable it then you need to hold down the blank txt box and change the input option to Swift Key.
enjoy!!
Thank you for the heads up...my beta just ran out...

Stock keyboard is not bad it actually pretty good specially without those silly arrows from the evo 4G but the swiftkey keyboard works great, my favorite tho is droid x keyboard but i can't find one the works on our evo
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Damn I want swiftkey no credit card where I am and cannot get to it damn
A root craving Evo 3d
WOW!!
Damn this has to be the best keyboard I have seen.......or at least the smartest.

I'm still torn between this and Smart keyboard pro. I just need to spend some more time with Swiftkey. They are about the same to me now.
So anyone having problems with it enabling? When I go to try to use it. It says pick a language. I choose English US but I keep getting download failed. I have wifi and data enabled.
NM. . Seems like their servers are getting hammered. Just keep trying and it will go through.

That was the greatest thing they have done!! sorta. I love this keyboard, I cant really tell too much of a difference from the last beta version, other than a PoPuP every 30 mins telling you to DL the paid version. And just when I pulled out the debit card.... BOOM! its Free!
Yaysers! thanks for posting this! I wouldve never knew!

Same here. I had been using Smart keyboard Pro since I first got the Evo 4g last year so I was pretty used to it. Been using Swiftkey all day. Just gotta get used to the space bar being smaller, and where all the symbols are.

Hey everyone on xda,
I've been looking for a good keyboard that gives a good amount of space for typing. I don't care for the word prediction/auto correct features I usually turn those off because they're more of a bother than something that helps. I have tried swype (was ok but never truly cared for it) and the gingerbread keyboard (currently using, but the keys are a little to small) and I would like to know what your preference is for a keyboard.
TLDR - Which keyboard do you prefer?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you flash axura, it comes with a modded htc sense keyboard which is awesome. The only bad thing about it is it doesnt respond as fast as gingerbread keyboard.
I personally like swipe and the GB one. The stock samsung keyboard isn't so bad either it offers plenty of space. Like stated above, you might like the HTC one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 look for the right one. There's some screenshots in there as well.
I'm a big fan of SwiftKey - currently half price on the market ($1.99 down from $3.99). I know you stated you don't like prediction/auto-complete, but SK's is terrific. I find myself able to type much faster with it than any other keyboard.
Alright thanks for all the replies. Would I be able to take the .apk file of the htc keyboard from the axura rom? I have looked at the swiftkey keyboard but I don't feel that spending cash on a keyboard is worth it when they're great keyboards that are free.

I also like SwiftKey and the voice input on SK seems to work better than the one on stock Android keyboard.
Bump to see if I would be able to take the HTC keyboard apk from the Axura rom and push it onto my phone through root manager.

this is htc_ime. just download and unzip. install the apk like you normally would from your SD card.
if you feel adventurous, use the htc_ime keyboard kitchen to make a custom keyboard for yourself. its super easy.

then just google HTC_IME XDA and it should be the first link that come up.
So I'm pretty much pissed off at the stock HTC keyboard, and Swype doesn't work for me, so I'm wondering what keyboard is worth installing to replace.
I've tried Swiftkey and Smart Keyboard, but they both have problems with double letters when typing fast.
What keyboards are you all using with your 3VO?
Im using Smart keyboard pro and I have problems with it not responding sometimes. I need a better keyboard also. I can't stand the htc one.
if you don't dig swype (and it is an acquired taste I'll admit) I would then recommend swift....
...don't dig swift? Well, almost every other keyboard out there (that isn't trying be either be "swype2" or super unique) will be the same (at best) or worst.
Do swift...have it learn from your txts....srsly, how does that not work for you?
got the old ginge keyboard, seems to be ok.. space bar is a little small..
I was leaning towards the GB stock keyboard, just need to find a modified apk for one with the smilie key. I miss that from my rooted EVO.
I'll probably give into Swift, just was curious what everyone else uses.
Check out hackers keyboard. Its pretty cool.

I downloaded the Swift Beta from the marketplace, seems pretty good, no issues so far with double letters.
I really dig thumb keyboard 4.
The ability to split the keyboard while in landscape so Tue keys are closer to the sides has actually made me want to type in landscape.

I really really miss the GB keyboard. I tried the apk I had from the Evo as well as the one from the market, both not sized for our screens(too small). I'm surprised no update either
Hackers has an ass load of options. I like you can change the overall size it takes up on the screen.
Though I have the full version of SwiftKey, I find the SwiftKey x beta works best for me.

the more it learns the better it works.....make sure to let it learn periodically....or make it....also only pick the language modules you need...trust me....I thought I'd shot for flexibility....pfft....more like shooting for randomization--the same applies for swype, lol.

just got swiftkey x beta, gonna give it a try. anything will be better than the crappy stock keyboard.
I really suck with the HTC keyboard. Swype doesnt do much for me either...
To the point, Im looking for keyboard recommendations. Ive tried almost all and own them too. My ONLY requirement is that the keyboard does NOT require access to the internet. I would also prefer it be a premium item if it needs to be purchased via the market.
Just looking for suggestions, if something like this even exists. There is a chance I could have overlooked a gem. Thank you!

For some reason I typed so much worse with swiftkey. On my OG Evo, the stock gingerbread keyboard (available as a free download in the market called just search gingerbread keyboard) was the best for me. Was able to type extremely fast and accurate. On my 3D though, I don't know if it's the case I have the wraps around the bezel a bit but I can't type for **** with the GB keyboard. I can't hit the space bar, always end up hitting b or a period. The HTC IME without arrows is best for me on the 3D.

I set Swiftkey X to learn from Facebook and my text messages. I chose the fast typer option in settings and at this point I probably type about a third of a word before it knows what I want and I can just hit space to complete it. Though when I do have to type a whole word I personally find the keyboard easier to type on than the stock one.
I literally hate the new keyboard that got installed with the new update. I also prefer good old fashioned typing to using Swype.
Anybody got a way to go back to the ICS keyboard?

There are plenty of free keyboards in the Play Store. Here is a random version of the ICS keyboard, for free:

Just make sure you enable it as an input device.

Good call, I didn't even think of that. I'll kick around and see if I can find something a bit closer to what the stock keyboard was. After 6 months, I just can't go to the new one. My fingers aren't smart enough.
In the meantime, here's to hoping someone can point me at the actual stock keyboard from ICS!
EDIT:
I actually like this one better than the original ICS keyboard that was shipped w/ this phone: Link

I'll check it out.
In the end, I just really liked the stock ICS keyboard that came on the LTE.
I can live with the new keyboard but I just need to know how to hide it. The ICS keyboard had a hide button in the bottom left corner, the new one doesn't have one at all that I can find. Sometimes pressing the back arrow next to the home button on the bottom of the phone will make the keyboard go away after typing so I can see and press a send button but sometimes that will take me back to the previous screen and I'll lose everything I just typed.
What's wrong with it? It works great for me. They even let you remove the arrows at the bottom so that they aren't in the way like in ics... And if you wanna close it, hit back. Its rather simple really... And the swipe feature works great.

I'm constantly being 'auto corrected' by this damned keyboard. Many of my texts invlove abbreviations and acronyms and they always get guessed to the nearest real word. I have to go back and re-type them back in. I don't want to have to add 60 words to my dictionary. Is there a way I can turn off auto-correct, or a different keyboard app you recommend?

Man i feel your pain , couldn't believe the trouble i was having with the HTC ONES Keyboard also , i really wanted to kee a complete stock look , but i just couldn't take it anymore , so i just downloaded swype from the playstore i've acyually been using it for quite awhile now , on my s3 , and man what a difference , i would highly reccomend it SWYPE , it used to be free now its 1 dollar .................
I have always liked SwiftKey keyboard. Now it has flow built in so you can swype or text. This keyboard allows you to type with a lot of mistakes and it does a really good job fixing it. The swype keyboard in the play store works really well for swyping but typing normal on it doesn't work near as good. Depends on how you like to text more. I switch between both of them all the time.
