Help with opening mms - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got a picture message from a friend and when I clicked it to enlarge I got a choice of what to open it with: mediascape, gallery, or astro image viewer. Unwittingly I chose gallery and checked "always...", and the images wont load that way. Now every time I try to open a picture message I get the same error.
I tried deselecting gallery as default in "manage applications" but it didn't change anything.
Can anyone help without making me reset the phone?

Try clearing the cache of gallery and see if that works. If is does not, try uninstalling and reinstalling it after you set mediascape (or any other apk) as your default.

thanks, it worked. i uninstalled gallery and mediascape with titanium. unfortunately, now it wont let me restore them lol.
off to android development to try a new rom i guess

[Q] How to totally remove Picasa?

I am on stock rooted ROM and I uninstalled Picasa using Titanium Backup. Picasa no longer exist in Account and Sync. That's good. However, it still exists in the follow 2 situations:
1. In Gallery - Share via menu.
2. In the preview after a picture is taken - Share via menu.
Can anyone tell me how to remove these 2 "Share via" entries?

The applications which appear in the Share menu are being shown there because they have registered themselves with the package manager as responding to that type of intent, i think the exact intent is something similar to: ACTION_SEND .
Anyway, if you think you've removed the correct .apk file and they still appear on the Share menu. I would wipe dalvik-cache and reboot. If they still appear on the Share menu, I would think the .apk is still present and registered with the package manager.
There are ways programatically through java to find out which packages have registered themselves as being able to handle that intent, but that might be a bit over complicated of an approach for this type of issue.
I would suggest looking through /data/app and /system/app once more to see if there are any similar apk files remaining. Good luck!

Thanks! You did give me some insight and I find out it is MediaUploader.apk which is responsible for the feature. After I removed it, Picasa no longer exist in Share via menu, both gallery and camera. Yay!
While the Picasa issue is fixed, I have another similar problems.
I also removed Facebook for Sense and Flickr, however these 2 entries appear in Gallery's album pull down menu. A blank screen (red maybe due to the Burgundy skin) is shown when selecting them. It seems like these two are hard coded to the gallery... no?

They very well could be hard coded. I was doing some research on how to add sharing support to my Root Checker application and saw many complaints against the facebook application not properly handling the standard android intent for sharing. The suggestions were all work around methods for sharing over facebook and hard coding would definitely be a viable solution.
Assuming they are hard coded, you'd have to reverse the .apk file and edit the smali to remove them. Not as easy as searching for .apk files and removing those, but still do able if you're willing to put the time and effort into it.
As for flickr, that might be held in another .apk file, or it very well could be hard coded. I would probably give the apk files another quick glance over and see if there are any similar type names for flickr or photo/image sharing.
Thanks for sharing this information! Hope my suggestions help!
Oh thanks... I might take a look into the gallery apk

Help! PDFs no longer opening!

When I try to open PDF files from email (doesn't matter the email program), or when I try and open them from the Downloads app I get a very odd problem where the screen just dims and I don't get prompted to select a PDF app
1. I've uninstalled and re-installed Adobe reader
2. I've cleared the cache on HTC's PDF app, as well as a few running services that looked like they might be related to opening files
3. I've tried opening PDF files directly from PDF apps, and confirmed that they work.
However, I still don't get any activity other then the dimming of the screen when I try and open the PDFs from non-pdf apps like EMail and Downloads. Does anyone have any ideas?

Clear data on Downloads and your PDF apps.
Try to rotate your tablet to change your orientation so that it can show app choices.

Clearing the cache didn't do it.
And I never actually got to rotate the tablet, so I never got to test that fix.
For some reason though, the app choices suddenly reappeared. The only thing I did was start up Opera and test opening a downloaded PDF from there. Once I did that, opening a PDF once again presented me with app choices in my email apps, as well as all the others that were giving me issues. I honestly have no idea... but either way it now works.
I love this tablet, buuuuut Android can be soooo randomly buggy at times, it seriously reminds me of old Windows Mobile!
Uninstall your PDF app, reboot the tablet, then reinstall it; something's out of whack and a reinstall should resolve it.

I resolved it. The memory on my Flyer's MicroSD was full, and so temporary files couldn't be made. I cleaned out some space on my storage card (temp and email files were defaulting to the storage card), and I was able to open files again. Its kind of surprising that Android doesn't have a built-in error message when something like this happens.

[Q] Falcon Pro issues

Ok here's the thing. I downloaded the new version of Falcon Pro (the one that is not available anymore on the play store), I did the procedure to find out how to have a token, everything was fine. Once I logged in the app closes itself. Anytime I open it, it stays opened like for 1-2 sec and then it closes. There's no crash log because, I think, it's not an actual crash. It works just fine from the widget: I can open the tweets from the widget, but if I try to open the main page of my feed (from anywhere, widget or other apps) it stays open for a moment and it crashes (or closes). In one of these moments I have been that fast to be able to tap on settings and send a bug report to the developer. I tried already to reinstall the app, clean the cache, clean app's data, fix permissions, clean dalvik cache, uninstall other twitter apps... nothing worked!
Any ideas?
PS: I don't if I was clear enough; long story short: the problem seems to be related just to the main page!
PS2: I am on CM 10.1-20130720-NIGHTLY-i9100

It happens to me too. Please help!!!
Best bet would be to ask the developer directly (on Twitter).

Can't remove default app setting

I have a Nook NT 16gb, rooted, stock firmware 4.3 running fine. My problem is I can't seem to clear a default app setting. For example video, it is currently set to the B&N my media app which I did accidentally (it originally asked me which one). Well now I can't remove it. I go into the nthidden settings/applications/all/mymedia but it doesn't say it is set as a default. When I KNOW it is, when I click on a movie in question it fires up the mymedia instead of one the other 3 installed. I tried the clear defaults but nope no help.
Any ideas?
Oh I also tried the "default app manager lite" in the google play store, but nope that doesn't show any defaults set either.

Well looks like like I figured it out. The setting was in the file manager app, not a true "global" setting. I cleared the data for the file manager and lo and behold the selection box reappeared.
I also found that if you are in the original B&N stock file manager system (in the library app) if you log press on a file you have the option to clear the default app setting globally for that file type. It wasn't my problem in this case but could be handy if for some reason the settings>-app-all-clearappsdefaultsettingsinquestion didn't work.
