So sick and tired of my Battery! Help me - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am so sick and tired of my battery draining so fast, i lose 10% every like 20 min WITHOUT touching my phone!
-I tried reconditioning my battery, didnt work.
-Went to stock and flashed, didnt work.
-wiped factory/reset, flashed rom, then cleared cache and dalvik + fix permissions, didnt work.
I really dont get it, i mean i know its normal for this to likely happen because you flash alot of ROM's and i do, I've been on Axura, Nero, and the M9 clone roms, but reconditioning the bbattery should have done it...but it didnt, and im sure i did it the right way, i used Master's way....
so tell me....what do i do?

well, he's kinda right, you need to see if it's the battery or the phone, if it's a hardware problem, there is nothing you can do about it but change the battery. and the best way to know is to use someone else's for a while to compare, knowingly preferably

i bought a 2800mah extended battery for mine.... and its SWEEEEEET, never have to worry about my phone dying on me anymore! even if i do flash several ROM's a day!

Just out of curiousity when you flash new builds on to your phone are you flashing at 100% battery? I had a similar problem until i started making sure to be charged to 100% before I flashed. Its also worth noting that I seem to get better battery on ROMS I have flashed over stock JFD, this may just be a coincidence but maybe it will help.

go to the samsung website and but a new battery for your Vibrant
i did it sao i have 2 batteries to switch them around so im always charged

The best advice I have seen regarding batteries:
1. Always flash at 100%
2. It takes a couple days fo a rom to settle in.
3. Use system tools and see what apps are constantly running.
4. You can use Titanium backup to freeze apps you don't need in the background.
5. I always turn the brightness way down. These screens are very bright and if you look at battery usage it's always the display that uses the most power.
Find the combination that works for you. Nero4 has been very good for me, I flashed Nero5 and it really ate my battery for some reason. I'm currently running Nero4 with KA7 and it seems good so far. I've heard good thing about KA6 & KA7. With Nero4 I was at 40+ hours and still had battery left. I also see good reports of Nero5 + KA7.
Good luck.

wow my batt sucked befor ka7 i got it stock tmo froyo i let my btt drain went wiped batt stats let phone xharge overnight bam i could not be more happier with my phone/music player and how long it last thru the day i also down clock cpu sometimes from now on using setcpu ill see how lont this will mke batt last, dude froyo was eatin my batt alive righ as i wad watching batt stat go down in front of my eyes now that i got rrue froyo made truly for my phone i think this helped alot my 5 cnts

btw hatic feedback is off autosync for email is off i check my emil when i need to try also dark backgrounds reducing screen cokors eatin batt and if u use widgets try samsung widgets i think they re mde for batt life more than other stuff on market also advanced task kiler hit kill once a day or two days

eugene373 ha made a rogram u cn find on mrket it hels condition ur battery and its free forgot the nme of it but i bet someone here can providethe name

Thanks for all your help guys, ill try each of your advice/techniques and report back!

[Q] Two Quick Questions

Currently running Nero v3, want to know:
A) how to return text messaging thread layout back to original JI6 stock (orange and blue)
and
B) where I can find the battery reconditioning software or information on extending the battery life.

A) you can go into the stock ROM's files and take the messaging.apk and put it into the rom you have right now, be sure to make a backup of the one you have just in case. As for me, i'm using GOSMS, it looks great, has a popup thing etc.
B) i'm looking for the same info, i heard you have to drain the battery down to 0% then 100% then erase battery data from recovery, but others told me that draining lithium batteries shortens their lifespan and makes it even more difficult for us. Theres a easier method that worked wonders for me on my previous rom; I charged till it said 100%, then shut down, and plug in usb, so it starts charging again, then wait until it beeps or says 100% again, then reboot, and charge again, till it goes to 100% it doubled my battery, but idk how at all.
Thanks, I backed up everything through TB, so I should have the original file, just didn't know what the file name was.
Yea, I also read something like that in one of the threads, I forget which one it is. I also read somewhere about a flashable mod but also forget where that is because I was a mere newbie some 36 hours ago and none of this made sense, getting the hang of it though, very addictive, lol.
If I run across anything, I'll post the link in here

Titanium backup might not actually back that up, but theres a easier way, you go to SYSTEM/APP using a file system (root explorer, astro) and copy the messaging.apk from there to your sd or something, but im sure TB did it too.
The Flashable Mod is already included in most of the newest and latest ROMS these days, let me see if i can find if nero has it.
Nope, i THINK it has it, but i'm not sure since the original thread states nothing about a battery mod or something.
If you find a link to the battery mod, link me i'll check it out.
and yeah lol, flashing can get addicitive, so much that you accidentally hard brick your vibrant 2 times >.> (my own story lol)
Battery life improves with time, its like the battery gets used to your behavior on the new rom.
Idk why you would ask but Nero is currently one of the best roms, and best known for its battery life as well with the themes and such...
for me... Axura is just....... like 32 hours with moderate/heavy use at random times. Heavy being playing Asphalt 5 HD and Dungeon Defenders lol.
If any more questions just ask i have nothing else to do, school starts again tomorrow, so tensed up >.<.
Yea I found MMS.apk in that directory on my internal drive, don't know if that's the one that came stock or if it's for nero 3. Guess I'll just install it and hope for the best, lol
Where do you get GOSMS from? is that an app in market? tried googling it and couldn't find it. Thanks!
Battery reconditioning;
1.charge battery full
2.with charger still plugged in boot into recovery and wipe battery stats (it's under advanced)
3. unplug and fully drain.
4.fully charge and enjoy.
I can get more than 24 hours of good use on a charge.

[Q] im done with the fascinate

stock 2.1 rom 10% battery drain per hour when sleeping
sc 2.9.2 UV 50 kernel (dont remember the full name) 3-5% sleeping in my pocket, BUT 1% drain every 3minutes when the screen is on the LOWEST setting.
Just odined back to stock, and 2.2 was already available to me.....so i OTA upgraded and my battery battery is even worse than that of stock 2.1. 12% percent for sleeping AND crazy battery drain when using the screen... i cant get over 7 hours of using my phone moderately....
warranty is voided since i rooted right???
_______________
dont u guys even dare telling me to recalibrate my battery and all that nonsense. none of this works.
No its not voided, you got the update via ota right? As long as you don't bring it in there rooted you should be fine.

Technically yes, but if your back to 100% stock, with no root, then know one well know you rooted.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Have you checked spare parts to see whats eating your battery?
Here are some things you could have done or do.
-Clear battery stats using terminal emulator
-Use app called juice defender
-Use UV kernel (seems like you did)
-Use Set CPU and bring down max frequency to 800MHz.
-Turn off GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth when not in use.
My suggestion is Odin to DI01 and then get the two OTA's EA28 and ED01 and then just run complete stock, and do not install ANY apps, yes I know who wants to run a phone with 0 added apps, you can update any stock apps, but if you run your phone for a day or 2 with just that setup and your having the same issue then go to verizon and get your phone replaced, also keep track of any settings you change, you want to try and keep your phone stock as much as possible, the only stock setting I personally would change is not have live wallpapers.
If your phone is over a year old, you might want to consider getting a new battery for it. No rechargable batteries stay 100% for over a year.

Seems like this phone has been out damn near forever. Was trying to help. You have a better idea, or do you just troll these forums looking to bust peoples' balls while offering no actual help of your own?
the fear i have with taking it to Verizon is that. i didn't originally buy the phone. i got it of craigslist....so another question i have is, is there a warranty sticker to show if its ever been taken apart? maybe the previous owner replaced it with a cheap POS screen, that why it eats more battery...

Hmm ... I'm not sure about the replacement screen theory ... that seems like a lot of work for ??? benefit.
I second the advice about going stock and not installing any apps. Also, I don't see that you listed some of the things from Battery Use and Spare Parts that are listed as taking up battery life. There are apps that start things up automatically (e.g. Pandora always starts a service when I connect my bluetooth headset, even though it doesn't do audio and I've never used Pandora over bluetooth) ... sometimes you can change this in the settings, sometimes you have to decide how much you want to live with the app.
Out of curiosity, do you leave WiFi on when not connected to a network? I find that sucks battery pretty bad. I use Locale to turn that off when not at home and only turn it back on if I need it. I also used a widget called Traffic Monitor for a little while to see what was using data.
Honestly, you won't be able to return it to Verizon. My husband bought an Ally off Ebay and found out when we got the phone that something wasn't right, so he went to Verizon store and once they found out where it was bought they didn't even want to help him out.
I would suggest calling Verizon and tell them that the phone you have now doesn't work period. You'll need to emphasize that you need a phone that works. I called Verizon the same night that the store didn't help my hubby out and after an hour with the customer rep, I was able to get a new Ally ordered for him and his upgrade date wasn't until Dec of this year. He got his new phone late Feb/March I believe.
If they say they can't help you, keep telling them that you need a phone, and then ask them if they can see if a supervisor will be able to help you out. I stayed on the call with them, until they had that new phone ordered for him-I didn't give up. If the 1st day you call doesn't pan out, call them the next day as each rep is diff and some are really wanting to help, others couldn't care less.
Hope this helps you out.

I did offer a suggestion, which is the same thing that Verizon would ask you to do, and its the same suggestion even most Carriers should ask you. Same with a lot of computer companies should ask you when you are having issues with your computer.
Reset your machine to standard stock, run all your updates, don't install any apps, and see if it still happens, if your battery is just as bad, then we know its either your phone or battery, either way Verizon will trade it out for you, because honestly what else can it be? The only way Verizon can really say tough luck and deal with it is if the battery life he is saying he gets, is what everyone else gets, which we all know is not true.

I update OTA last week on Verizon to Froyo 2.2. My battery was overheating and draining like crazy from my CPU usage being at a constant 99%..
I found the source of the problem. An app I use for facebook called "FLOW". The CPU usage was cut to 20% when I killed it with "Advanced Task Killer".
I resolved the issue by: Opening Flow.. going to Preferences.. Notification Settings.. Refresh Type.. Checked Periodic Polling (I was using Gmail Experimental previously)
Hope this helps...

battery is what i need!

Ok guys, Lately i haven't cared about battery because its summer and im home all the time so if battery's low, i charge... but now its different.
School starts in a few weeks over here in Texas. More importantly, my Football camp starts TOMORROW. I won't need a 48 hour lasting battery, but i do want one that will last me no problem to maximum 16 hours, i dont need anything more.
I currently have CM7 glitch kernel kb5.
My phone is usually on standby. If CM7 had a great standby battery i'd stick, but it doesn't...
The most i use my phone is..
A couple calls, no more than 5 a day, 100 texts maybe more a day, and games but you guys dont have to count the games, I play games at home, I don't play games while algebra is going
So just a good ROM, with amazing battery life specifically on standby.
Obviously most of the choices i have will be Froyo based roms, but I guess thats okay for now, im not looking for anything "spontaneous" just a good rom, battery life, i dont want some funky theme on it either. just a simple one.
got any suggestions? Name away
Also if you're using or have experienced the rom your suggesting, try to give me more info on what kernel you used if it was different than stock, what modem etc.

I suggest Project V. It runs smooth and snappy. I've never had any issues (at least nothing I haven't caused myself), have gotten great battery life and since installing Bali my battery life has been f***ing awesome.
I think you have at least a partial answer to your question: three different posters recommending three different roms but we all agree that you should be using the Bali kernel.
It's all in my signature. I've used all of the ROMs listed so far, and Toxic's has been my favorite by far. Love the near endless stream of themes that come from the group besides all the great tweaks.
I've easily gotten 48hrs with light use, or 5hrs of nonstop gaming.
I was just about to ask this. Im on Revolution rom and ill get about 6-7 hours with moderate usage. Not the best but ehh its entertaining. But back on track i too would like to know what rom has good battery life

Just run any 2.2 rom with overstock. Have a sleep profile of 400/100 and use superpower (free) from the market and have it not turn on the mobile network for 2 hours and let it run for 1 min. Use startup manager to kill all the unnecessary apps that want to run and be done with it. It requires some work on your part but well worth it. Do note you can really cause problems for yourself by doing what I suggest by one mistep, you might not have any cellular signal at all. But I can tell you the battery savings are great. I work at a factory 12 hours a day and I leave there with 50%. This is also in an area that just barely gets edge. Every ones phones are constantly trying to grab a signal and dying.... but mine I'm working on the new Simply honey JVR right now and after a few days once it gets settled ill post a little picture in the battery thread.
I'm going to suggest bi-winning V3. I'm running it with the kernel that came with and get great battery life. I turned my phone at 10 am with 100% battery at 10 pm with several phone calls, some texts, checked the market for updates I was at 80%. I've read that some people have used Bali kernel undervolted and are getting even better. But honestly dude, bi winning runs so good and is so smooth that I just can't bring myself to change anything about it.
Bi-winning V3
if you don't care about the thickness/weight of your vibrant, could get a bigger battery..
mobimega makes one that works
on the vibrant.

Bi winning seems to be in the lead and I shall try that out! With Bali
Thanks guys really helped me
Going to football practice now. Cya
Excellent choice my good man!! You shall not be disappointed!!
I'm currently on CM7 Trigger Redux and I can tell you that battery life only lasts around 15 hrs depending on usage. I usually just check my email, check the time every now and then, put in a few texts, and some randoms. I can tell you that Bionix 1.3.1 was a lot better but you couldn't really do much with the Bionix. On average, I would get 18+ hours. I have been told that any GB or Froyo bootloader ROMs would usually always have better battery life than CM7 just because of the system files CM7 uses.
So you dont have to stop using ur phone like its meant to be, buy a couple of cheap $4 batteries and a cheap $3.50. battery charger from ebay like that u have a fresh battery when ur about to go dead. That's what I do cuz I got tired of killing this, freeze that, install this, uninstall that, lower this. ....u get my point. I use my phone like its meant to be. I listen to music all day at work with my bluetooth earbuds and on my breaks I play a game, browse the web, watch something on netflix, etc. without having to worry about battery life cuz I'll just pop in a fresh charged one when needed. I keep a battery at work, home, and car. No matter what ROM ur using with whatever kernel or tweak applied ur still gonna kill ur battery fast watching a video or playing a HD game. If I have to limit myself doing those things than whats the point of having a phone that could do all that if ur gonna be worrying about battery life all the time. Don't get those extended ones that will make your phone fatter in your pocket and hard to get a case for, just to add about 50%-70% more life for about $20-$30 when you could get 3 regular $4 batteries that will hold as much charge as ur OEM battery. No matter what brand name they have, they all come from the same place (i.e. China) anyways so who cares if that's where they come from. They worked fine for me.
Get the extra batteries. Trust me.
.....aaaand NO! My theme is not just funky....its Blutiful.

i have tried many roms on mine and i find team whiskeys nero 5/voodoo to be the best with battery life. no wifi calling support though but excellent rom.
I can confirm that Bi-Winning 3.0 does an incredible job in battery life. Bionix also does a good job but I feel the battery lasts longer with Bi-Winning. I'm probably going to be testing Toxic battery life soon just because theres more things to customize.

[Q] Which ROM is best for battery?

Okay I need a ROM with battery for tonight only! Going on a night out, getting wrecked and all that, and the last time I did it, my phone died and I really needed it later in the night to contact my mates when I was a mess. I don't want it to happen again tonight, even if I turn data off and everything.
So what can people recommend? Is Oxygen a good shout??
Villainrom or cognition

Stock rom/
jje
You do some really heavy usage there if you can discharge it that fast. Mine lasts 24 hours easily with medium usage. I've only tried stock, villain and CM7, and from my experience CM7 saved the most battery (in idle mode at least).
Well, I can't comment on my usage as I was disgustingly drunk that time. But I really don't think I had data on, and the only thing I was doing was texting. A few calls here and there.
But I have a stock nandroid I may go back to, or I might just go for it with my MIUI. It may have been the version I was on?
Stock...i feel...tried villain2.4.2 also, but back to stock now.

The actual ROM wouldn't play a massive part in battery life although of course it needs to be included, what you need to do first and foremost (assuming your rooted) is get Titanium Backup (PRO version) and freeze all Samsung bloatware, there is a spreadsheet on page 13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069924 freeze everything you don't need, personally i froze just about everything i could including Maps, anything you need to use occasionally just defrost it, use it and freeze it again, don't use any battery saving apps like Juice Defender or the likes as they use up as much battery as they save, install better battery stats and check what wakelocks are keeping your phone from sleeping, obviously things like bluetooth,GPS and the likes will drain your battery so keep them off while not using, sign out of any apps if your not using them,i can also recommend Cognition ROM ive been using it now for ages and it's always good on the battery, and last but not least search the forum there have been hundreds of battery posts on here over the last few months.
After all that you might get battery life like i do (see screenshots)
Insanity
Go for the insanity ROM, only problem is, whatever ROM you choose, you will have to calibrate your battery.

Q:I'll do anything if you can help with my battery life

ok so i am on ginger 2.3.3 with a day one x10a baceband 71 rooted with Custom boot loader so i can literally do anything except gain more battery life. i have tried ATK in the past and ditched it for Battery doctor cause i found when you charge with battery doctor i get about 6 more hours out of my phone. ad that to my 1800mAh battery from mugen power and i'm getting about 12 more hours then i did when i got the dang thing. killing tasks all the time deferentially helps. all in all i get about 24 hours...
what i'd really like is a custom rom that is Ginger that's whole point is battery life... i'd really like to forget to plug my phone in and not panic in the morning cause i'm at 10%
i have looked though allot of roms but can't seem to find anything with all the battery eating junk ripped out it seems most of them are putting more junk in
Are there any good LITE roms out there?

> Remove all unnecessary widget... clock, time, weather, photo, blah blah
> Wait for a few hour, is it significantly better?
> Remove some background-apps; viber, whatsapp, skype, trillion, imo, msg, brb, blah, blah, blah
> Wait for a few hour, is it better?
Well, it should... (definately )
Some geeks down here... skip it if you're lazy.
Actually, you will need to understand something that it's not really about ROM.
Most custom ROM provide you some 'minfree' tweak. Let's make it simple.
Case 1, minfree is 60MB (most custom ROMs)
> droid will just fill the memory with lots of apps till RAM is 60MB.
> droid will start killing the task aggressively when RAM is below 60MB.
Case 2, same thing with 30MB (Stock ROM)
> droid will just fill the memory with lots of apps till RAM is 30MB.
> droid will start killing the task aggressively when RAM is below 30MB.
So, using ATK means....you shot everything to pieces, and droid just recovers it back..
or.............................you and droid trying to shot everything down.....
doesn't sound useful.. does it?
ATK is then.. useless.. unless there are some legacy no brainer app eating CPU and tell droid that 'I'm busy doing my (stupid) job, go away and don't kill me'.
Alright, that's NOT the point about ATK.
My point is, if you having too much apps, beyond 'minfree' level, there is no way you can save the battery whether using ATK or droid itself.... ATK just hide it, and make it worse.
This is why most people get a decent battery life with stock, since it provides lowest minfree level (around simple 30MB), with a cost of system performance, which is one of the reason that stock one is the slowest one.
So, what you need to do is to adjust number of your running apps, close to the minfree level.
Or adjust the minfree level (autokiller memory optimizer?) to match your current usage.
So, all in all, if you're using custom ROMs, stop using ATK, uninstall any stupid apps till free memory is running around 60-80MB. This will give you 'optimal' (not best) battery life.
384MB is not decent enough for X10 to become a multitasking speedy beauty with decent battery life.

Try installing JuceDefender from the market. If after trying it for awhile you find an extreme difference in battery life then your problem is probably with one of your apps accessing Wifi / Wireless data all the time.
Another thing that could be causing it is if you're in a very low signal area. Where I used to work, I was lucky to get 12 hours out of my phone. Right now, it's been off the charger for 11.5 hrs and I'm down to 82%. In this case shutting of wifi and wireless data will help.
Sorry I can't offer any more suggestions. Good luck man.
I use battery Dr. for killing tasks as it helps by doing calibration charges when you charge your phone from under 20%. So I get more battery life than I did with juice defender
Also I get full bars on an hsps network at both home and work

I agree, I use JiuceDefender and if you take the time to set all the profiles it will help alot. Service area signal is also a key to battery life. Also try Battery Calibration App from the market, it will reset your battery stats. Make sure and leave the app open untill battery charges to 100%. Then let battery go till phone shuts down and charge again to 100%, That has been the best fix for me, plus Wolfberak's 2.3 rom's.
Ya using wolf note and I'm liking it.it's giving me my 3 days so I'm good.... I'd like to point out that juice defender as a few cool features but battery doctor seems to work better it has full cycle charging built in as well
