ODIN stock->official froyo->custom how? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, I've got a question. I'm having some trouble, people tell me I sound staticky ,and have a robotic voice, and I have unstable cell tower connections using KA7 modem and latest Axura. Its like "hi, you have 5 bars... no wait. you have 1, err maybe 1? Oh, no, there are 5 bars" And beautiful widgets cannot use geolocation to find my location now.. data connection sucks! constant complaints that geolocation failed. Or I open the market and get connection failures and have to press retry 5 times to get anywhere.
I'm having a feeling it could have to do with not odining back to stock for some time now. I would like to ODIN back to stock (already know how), then upgrade to Official froyo (including sbl and 3e recovery), then ODIN a voodoo kernel so I can use CWM as my main recovery and have custom roms.
Is this suggested? I know nothing of the new sbl (secondary bootloader) and think that it may be possible it can have some impact on performance. I'm not even sure if you can ODIN a new voodoo KA7 kernel after changing to the new sbl can you?
tips? suggestions?

is there a way i can get my gps update back can someone help me
Use the JI6 ROM instead of the JFD one. It has the updates. Or there is a zip file you can flash in clockwork that has the GPS files from one of the leaks. That helped a lot for my phone.
Where may I find that J16 factory suitable for Rom Manager?

It seems the only one that was out has been taken down. Here is the Official JI6 flashable through ODIN only.

I have a Deodexed JI6 that is CW flashable. PM me if you want that one instead.

[Q] Any Clockworkmod pros?

After almost a brick, with lots of help from forums I am partially back to normal. I am hoping I can get all the way there.
Installed JI6 back on. Now when I go to boot menu I get MBR Checksum Error and Movinand Checksum Confirmation Fail messages in there, but it seems to boot fine.
The whole problem started when I stupidly went into Clockworkmod recovery 2.5.1.2 and selected under advanced menu, partition sd. I selected 1024mb and I forget the next selection.... But that of course hosed everything up. Couldn't boot.
Put on Eugene no brick froyo, and back to JI6 (after hours of getting no where).
So now I am on JI6, but still not right due to checksum fails...
I can get into Clockworkmod recovery still, is there anything in there that would let me put the internal sd that I messed up back to factory partition? Many options, but no manual on the thing.
I tried wipe data/factory reset, but leaves me in same boat with checksum fail.
What about under mounts and storage, there is format sdcard, format boot etc...
Basically, can the cwr partition sd be undone to factory?
Any help from the experts appreciated.
Try Supercurio's kernel+Voodoo, it fixes MBR.
Find your kernel in the thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
Stay away from JK and JL builds since they are Froyo kernels and you have Eclair still running.
Looks like they are all JK and JL in there.
My whole goal last night was to backup ji6 that I had, and put on Nero 3 to try out froyo. Would that be a problem? I basically want to put Froyo on, but be able to go back to JI6 should the official release from tmo eventually arrive.
You did almost all the correct steps. the only part you forgot was to ODIN JFD onto your phone after using Eugene's Froyo the doesnot brick and before ODIN JI6 onto your phone.
In the bible sticky, there should be links that contain JFD. When you odin with JFD, select the repartition box. But only do this for JFD. Hopefully that helps you to fix your issue.
I searched and found JFD. What does that do? I went to Nero 3 seemingly fine. Hope no issues since I didn't do JFD. I guess if I try to go back to stock should an official release ever happen, I would include that int eh steps.
Thanks.

Look through that thread, I am pretty sure I've seen supercurio provided JI6 kernel+voodoo on a user request.
EDIT: looks like 2.1 kernels came out broken with Voodoo.
Try ODIN back to JFD, flash a latest 2.2 ROM like TW nerov4.1, it contains the latest Voodoo CWR that should fix the MBR issues.

Jfd is actually for our phones. It also includes all the information to "reset" the partitions and the mbr. The Eugene rom, while a life saver, is an i9k Rom. But yeah, if you have anymore issues, odin jfd with reparation checked and it should clear up a lot of issues.

Vibrant Not Responding

Ok was running Axura 2.3.1.0 tried to downgrade to Modem FWare KA7 [because KB1 was very slow with data] using ODIN 1.81
Couldnt or wouldnt load it, tried to get the phone outa DL mode and into recovery mode
Apparently, it turned off while in DL mode, and now the phone wont do anything except turn off, and when trying to get it to boot up, all I see now is a picture of a cell phone dot dot yellow triangle with exclamation character dot dot and picture of computer.
phone wont go into recovery mode, done a battery pull and all suggested methods, ODIN, BayWolf's program nothing will interact with it!
Is this a soft brick or a hard one, and is there a simple way or anyway to get it to go into boot mode and turn back on?
Haven't seen this scenario in any threads Ive search thru all morning, need this phone back up ASAP. thanks!
OK were up and running starting all over AGAIN!!
OK I guess my asking for help must not have been worthy enough for reply, However, the thread right above mine labeled "HELP seriously" Had the answer I needed, It enabled me to get linked USB wise NOT DL MODE though, With BayWolfs 2.5 ToolBox, and I did a restore back to Eclair 2.1.1 Phewww! thought the phone was hosed/bricked!! Anyway BayWolfs Program did the trick! Heimdall's or ODIN 1.81 wouldnt link or respond to the phone, If this program hadn't been available, with no answers from contributors, I might've been seriously lost! Anyway I got into this delimna by trying to downgrade the KB1 modem to KA6, I think Ill try mounting it to the ex SD and flash it from there! I did as whats been read with ODIN, installed the PIT file, selected the tar file labeled KA7 , phone was in DL mode, but that's where the confusion lays with me, cause I see two different Instructions [from threads including video tutorials] on where to mount the modem file for flashing, some say no pit just the phone bar, others say must use pit but mount the modem file to the PDA bar! WTF!! Why is there NO uniform Instructions for a sure fire method that works with 0 defects, irregardless of how buggy ODIN my be? Does any one know for certain exactly how and what to do step wise with ODIN which would apply to Heimdalls program as well? I had problems flashing to Axura using BayWolfs toolbox ironically , yet it saved my ass in getting my phone un-stuck otherwise!
Anyway I still want to try other modems other than the KB1 thats with Axura 2.3.1.0 and try different modems like KA6 which was fast with Froyo 2.2 or try KA7 and try to get the speed back up, as well as the improved reception telephony and GPS wise!

[Q] odin - flashed tmobile vibrant to verizon wireless fascinate HELP

Hello,
I was running CM7 rom with gapps installed. it was draining my battery like crazy and i read online that it happens because the phone doesnt go into "deep sleep" mode. i decided to use another ROM instead and tried flashing my phone to stock 2.1 eclair before doing that. odin gave me an error during the process. so i goggled some more and on one of the xda forums it said that its recommended to follow this process - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
i performed the option number 1 - *EB01 FROYO *Unofficial leak* full odin tar*
later when this process failed on me on odin, i realized that i am on the forum for samsung fascinate. my phone turns on with a samsung screen but gets stuck on a verizon wireless welcome message.
i have tried going back to stock 2.1 eclair but it gets stuck on modem.bin on odin.
what should i do?
there's a dongle that plugs into the USB port and can almost always reset your phone. Google it. Samsung vibrant USB dongle should find it and there are videos on YouTube.
alternately you can use the instructions on how to go to any other ROM from cm7/muiu. It involves a pit file, clicking repartition box and flashing with a complete stock room for you're phone (ROM and kernel at least and might as well do radio too).
Maybe that might work.
It's really hard to hard brick an Android especially the samsungs.

the phone actually turned on as a verizon wireless samsung fascinate and im able to do everything but make calls. so i went ahead and used superclickoneroot thing and rooted my phone. i downloaded rom manger to install clockworkmod recovery and now im gnna try and install a custom rom for vibrant and hope that works.
If you can get to dl mode, go find my GingerZen thread in the dev section, and follow the FTDNB steps in the second post. That will get you fixed up.

i downloaded the pit/pda to flash with odin and also checked off repartition, its stuck on modem.bin - is that normal?
No, pull the battery and try it again.
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App
well i think im at an even worse stage now. the phone does not turn on anymore. no samsung/galaxys or verizon wireless homescreen like before. but my computer does recognize it i think because i am able to go into download mode. im only able to go into download mode without my battery. with the battery in, the phone is useless and dead.
just so i know i have it right my first step is this right? - Download this first, and flash through Odin with your standard 512 pit file and then it redirects me to the EB productions website. (i am not allowed to post an outside link for being new and all)
Both links go to the eb productions site, both Odin packages were created by eugene373. If you can get to dl mode, you can still flash. I wouldn't give up, take a deep breath and try it again.
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App
i am not giving up. i have tried atleast 15 times but same thing. it gets suck on modem.bin. i feel like its getting stuck there because its formatted as a fascinate now and im trying to put vibrant softwares but then again what do i know lol
It doesnt let you flash modem.bin because of the bootloader, flash a vibrant bootloader and re-flash stock jfd with re-partition enable with pit file.
You should be good.
Is there a guide that helps me with the steps on flashing a vibrant bootloader?
As demetris_I stated, it does sound like you need to repartition off the bat. Don't repartition witht he FTDNB initial file, go striaght to either stock JFD of the JK2 in my post I referred you to, and select the repartition check box in Odin. That should tell Odin to set your mount points and flash all the files to their correct lo9cation.
For bootloaders if you want to try them, search for the GB bootloaders thread in the dev section, it also contains the froyo bootloaders, all flashable through Odin. I personally would try flashing a full Odin rom (such as the JK2 of stock JFD files) first with repartition, as those files will reset your bootloaders during the flash.
fascinate verizon Is not a gsm phone so when you flash the rom you also flash the bootloaders from it.It doesnt have a modem.bin partition and odin doesnt know where or cant put the modem.bin thats why is stuck there.
Go to dev section find froyo bootloader follow guide and re enter download mode and flash stock JFD with pit file and repartition checked, as i said You should be ok.
run odin under administrator or try heimdall instead
so, i just want to use t mobile vibrant on verizon
Is this an easy thing to do?
It's impossible. Vibrant uses GSM technology (sim card) and radio frequency called 1700/2100 in the USA. Fascinate uses CDMA (no sim card you call Verizon to activate your phone) and 1900 frequency.
Note: T-mobile vibrant can use AT&T 3G band (only one of them not both like AT&T captivate does).

HELP 3 days with Vibrant softbricks!

Okay in the last three days I have softbricked my vibrant several times. Each time after tyring to update to a newer ROM. Now however I can not even return to what I had, only the Eclair ROM. I was running Tigers Breath Kernel with Bionix ROM
I should point out that my efs has hone corrupt mysteriously on this phone twice before in the past , and luckily I made a back up that was easily restored.
I now have a vibrant that was restored to a stock image however I believe the stock image is incomplete. It lacks the ability to reset.Says Something like reset service unavailable. I would be happy for now at the stock eclair image however I run into the same issue I had on Eclair before. Android Market will not download any apk, it starts pauses and fails.. When I look at the corresponding device in google play on the web I see it says PHONE and there is another SAMSUNG GALAXY VIBRANT T 969 . However the corresponding device is PHONE . So Google has no idea what my phone is. This could be the market issue however I want to point out that when I first set up the google account I can go to the market and download but once the market app is updated, it no longer works!
So a few days ago my goal was to attempt to install Gingerbread or higher to take a look at xbmc for android betas. The result has literally given me a 3 day headache.
before three days ago I was running Bionix and Tigers breath kernel. I tried to follow instructions to downgrade to stock and then to Gingerbread or higher. I have now made more the several attempts. All I can do is O|DIN to the stock image I have which complains that oit lacks the reset service.
Even trying to restore either of My CWM back ujps of Bionix fails.
I also have another interesting thing that when I attempt to install CWM from an update.zip I get screen goes black for a second then i see CWM running . It is as if it is running it instead of installing it.
The one image that I have that I can restore does have ROM manager that55 always reports a download error with installing CWM from there
Is there an image that I can install from ODIN that will get me Gingerbread or higher? ODIN seems to be my only hope.
And what of the market errors , do ya think my EFS is hammered again? before the issue was the electronic serial number (dont remember what its called) but the carrier stopped honoring the generic number it was producing. I do however recall last year that I could not get the market working and now I seem to have returned to that. I think it has much to do with the market version on Eclair.
would the vibrant be adequate to run XBMC beta at lest to test it?
Should I repartition from ODIN?
Is there a stock froyo image around at least that I can install from ODIN?
Thanks,
Mark
Yes you should check repartition when you use Odin to flash ROMs. There are froyo Odin images out there but I don't think there is a "true" stock 2.2 froyo image, only custom ones. I know there is a ROM uploaded by moped ryder that is as close as you will get to stock 2.2, fishman made an odin image of it. You can check it out here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519. I know for sure fishman uploads odin images with his 2.2 ROMS, they are far from stock but I love them. I've been running Axura resurrected 2.2 for months, its solid. You can check it out with this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787267, it has odin images. Just be sure to read first and follow directions.

If it was me, I would Odin back to stock JFD. There is a guide on YouTube by Eddie1west that I recommend.
Then just I would follow the guide to install Gingerbread boot loaders.
Then I would download and wipe/wipe cache/dalvik and flash a fresh Froyo ROM download. I use Bionix V fishmans with the Bali kernel. Then if your satisfied then stop. If not, download latest CM9 Nightly (ICS). Wipe/wipe cache/dalvik and flash the ROM and common files.
Since you've gone this far download latest Helly Bean all in one, wipe/wipe cache/dalvik and flash HB and the add on file.
Might as well right? I had lots of trouble flashing up to HB yesterday, and I had never had any issues before.. but if your looking to get to GB or beyond... I would follow the steps above. Could be overkill. But I tried about every other combination of flashes I could think of before Odining back and doing it that way.
