Is there any app I could use, to block apps from connecting to the internet.
Droidwall doesn't work.

APNoid does a great job of disabling 2G, 3G, H, so nothing connects, and has a toggle widget. However, the allow mms setting doesn't work for me and AT&T. You can still send/receive sms, but no mms. With this application my battery now lasts days. I've been trying to use droidwall too, because of the mms problem with APNoid, but it doesn't work for me either. I can't set rules because of something you need to do first. It says it's supposed to be used with Lenux firewall, but I couldn't find it in the market. I think that the Lenux firewall is the key, because I know batman_112 is using droidwall successfully on x10a. I just haven't taken the time to figure it out yet.

AFAIK we can't have any firewall on our X10, because SE didn't put iptables to the kernel, someone menotined that they did include iptables with the DT update, but we have to wait for confirmation...

i have x10 with the latest firmware.
i am using wap connection from my network provider.
my browser works great.
other applications, like mail, weather update, market.... they are unresponsive.
so i inserted my sim in a normal phone java based samsung s8000 and it worked perfectly.
same with WM based phone omnia II, and symbian based E72.
so dear developer do u think that the problem is in the android system or the phone xperia x10. and have u an idea how to resolve it.
N.B this problem existed in the iphone and it was resolved by by editing the ‘proxy.pac’, and the function FindProxyForURL changes to:
function FindProxyForURL (url , host) {
if ( isInNet ( myIpAddress(), “14.0.0.0″, “255.0.0.0″) )
return “PROXY 192.168.4.11:80″;
else
return “DIRECT”;
}
i do not have an idea about programming but i am sure this problem should be solved using expert expertise.
thank you
Wap cannot work for smartphones

thank you for ur reply.
but it worked with all the other systems. except the android.
btw, what is the best forum to post this problem.?
thank you.
First of all you didn't describe what kind of problems are you having?
Like slow brownsing, or some applications not working and so on...
Second, you're not using WAP, you're probably using 2G (EDGE) connection (look for the symbol on the fone notifications tab, it is probably a "E" symbol in the right upper corner when you're connected) and if it is that, that's why you are having slowdowns and other problems since 2G (EDGE) connections are slow, and sometimes can lead you to very slow loading time in applications that need internet connection.
Since the X10 it's like a computer, of course he uses more internet connection then some other phones to open apps, like it's diferent when you are brownsing on a phone java based and a phone that needs all resources to open the brownser, or market etc... navigation on the XPERIA it's much more heavy.
You can make a test, just use your WI-FI connection to open apps and surf the WEB (make sure it's at least a decent wi-fi connection) and you'll see, things will be much more smoother.
ya i am using edge connection.
it is not slow at all, the browser works good, but other things they do not connect, it tells me failure network.
on the otherhand it works on other platform.
for example, youtube app it woks on WM on symbian but not on android.
Then maybe your apn is wrong
Also Xperia general

I think it's something with your software... Maybe an app is blocking your internetconnection in your other apps... You can try a clean new install without any extra apps and try if that fixes the problem
Good luck!

Yes, in that case, i suggest you make a backup of all your things (use Mybackup Pro, great app for backups) and then use SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) to hard format your phone and you can test it from the begining the apps that doesnt work, if they are working now.
Make shure to write down you APN settings, cause maybe you will have to put them manually in the APN settings, the backup app doesn't backup your APN.
Is there some application that can monitor internet usage by application? I know 3G Watchdog does the job, but it only shows the global consumption and I want to see which apps are using my internet because sometimes I can see my internet being used but I don't know which app is using it.
Also can someone tell me how I can deactivate it and turn it on until I need it.
Thanks!!
Have a look at Call meter NG...

Call Meter NG doesn't do the trick either
@OP If you find software that does that please let me know, coz that would be pretty awesome, using watchdog at the moment but dunno where the data is going.

Settings - Wireless Controls - Mobile Networks - MMS & Data to turn it on and off.

This is the same as 3G Wathdog, just shows the total usage. I want one where you can see Internet usage by application.

Count what about GPS exactly?
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
GPS is never counted as data usage, it uses signal from GPS satellites, not the internet connection. However, if you are using Google Maps, the internet connection is used to download the maps.
3GW has not yet the capability of counting usage per application, but a "pro" version will in the near future, only for phones under Android 2.2+ because it's not technically feasible AFAIK with older versions of the OS.
Hey guys,
I really need per app counter especially now for my X10.
I have only a 200mb plan, but I don't ever do anything else on the internet except use Google Voice app to text(since I tend to text a bunch).
Anyways, first month that I had the phone my traffic got up to about 120mb, but that was because I browsed web etc (you know.. got a new toy and started to play with it type of thing), but after this month I installed counter and monitor it from AT&T's website too, and half-way through the month traffic got up to 140mb!
Now I have disabled background data once I noticed that, now I have enabled it but uninstalled Google Voice app, and gonna have to go without it for few days (which isn't that great) and see if it's it that's causing the problem.
The thing is that I need the app one way or the other, and second is that I want to know for sure what EXACTLY is using my traffic.
Any advice is welcome.

LAN Spy Monitor is excellent all-in-one Internet usage monitoring software, it works very well.
Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to use both wifi and 3g at the same time. The reason I want this is because, I am using 3UK and they provide free skype which only works if 3g is active. whenever I come home and connect to home wifi, the skype goes offline and requests to turn off wifi.
I had Nokia N95 8Gb and it used to run both wifi and 3g at the same time. Dosen't android have that option of choosing access points?
isn't skype a free app already??
sorry i don't know the answer to your question
I think that you don't get charged for data used when on skype with 3? Is there anything in the settings within skype that you can change to allow you to use wifi?
Otherwise try downloading the skype app off the market and see if that works? Did you get the 2.1 upgrade yet on 3?

No I am using generic 2.1 and you can download skype off 3 website. this skype is customised to run only on 3 network. I did try downloading Native skype off market but it is such a battery drainer and I think it is not free to use on 3's 3g network.
Since I started making and receiving calls and texts via wifi I thought about how nice it would be to actually carry the tab with me in my laptop bag and have it automatically connect to open wifi spots without user interaction. Is this possible.
If I can get a notification of an open network, someone should be able to add code to or from to auto connect and disconnect without storing a thousand networks addresses... PigBak app... or something...
Sorry if this has been discussed couldn't find anything on site wide search..

after a little more searching I found an app that functions the way I'd like it to... Wefi pro seems to do what I need for seamless calls.

Hello! I want to know if there is any app which works like TCPView by Sysinternals for Windows.
I simply want to disconnect active data connections, no matter if wifi or mobile data.
Does such a tool exists?
Edit: i found tools like net tools withhin i can show but dont close active connections.
Also alogcat seems to only show data connections.

I'd recommend some firewall app. Just closing a connection will not hinder the app to re-open it again. Using a firewall app, you can make sure the connection stays closed.
The shell command netstat shows active connections.
Thank you. Im alrdy using avast fw with whitelist mode and it works as it should.
I was asking because some apps dont start until they got an internet connection (even if they dont need one) or it takes rly long till connection times out so they can start.
So i thoight i could block them going online and disconnect the pending connection which is -listening- to some port and waiting for connection.
