[Q] X10 broken and sent for reapir, but changed firmware? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have an x10 on contract from three mobile (uk) and after i got it, i rooted it and changed it to the generic firmware before updating to 2.1.
Last week the speaker in the top of the phone broke (really distorted and crackly) so i was going to put the original firmware back on before i sent it off...
But.. a week later, i have had another problem.. it will not turn on or charge! LED flashed red three times and would not charge at all (pc usb or wall plug). Believe this was because the battery is completely drained.. is it just a faulty battery or has the motherboard bust or charging circuit ect? (like all the stuff i read on google haha) is there any other way to fix this?
I have phoned 3 up and they said i can send it back for repair under warranty. My question is, will they notice that the firmware has been changed? (as i know that this voids the warranty?) It is NOT rooted, only the firmware is changed.
I'm worried they will notice and will not repair it ect.. :S
Many thanks
Spud

Unless they can get it to switch on I doubt they will notice, that and they send them off for repair so unless they are very clear whats supposed to be on it with the repair shop it should be okay.
3 might just send a new one If it looks to be beyond repair,
Hope this helps

To be on the safe side, I would flash the original operator firmware before shipping it off. You can find the original operator firmware here.

Phone needs to go for repair [UK] but im on Nordic 2.1 /root

Whats the best thing i can do, turns out my rebooting issues are ram related fault with a bad badge of boards. Changed the default.prop values to upgrade to the Nordic FW, was originally orange FW then debranded UK 026. Not sure whats best to do assuming SE wont like the fact it has the nordic 2.1 update! Never made a backup of the orange FW didnt think it would matter UK generic should be fine for them i'd imagine! dont know whats best to do, wait for the UK 2.1 generic update to come out and flash it? then send it away un rooted. Rther than try go back to 1.6
I'd wait for the 2.1 update and flash that if you can.
I had one that was doing that and it got swapped anyway.
Where are you sending it for repair? I sent my x1 with a custom Rom for repair at cpw when the screen went and they made no mention.

[Q] Will they repair it??

Hey,
I have a x10i which I de-branded and unlocked, dose that void my warranty?
As I keep getting the "camera not available" message am sending my phone to Sony Ericsson for repair.
Will they repair it or have I voided my warranty?
Thanks

You can search and see if one of the flash versions will put your phone back to its original. There are several around. Or change the CDA back to original and do SEUS repair.
Hey
iv tried to put the CDA back to original codes, but then SEUS dse not recognise my device and it dosnt give a repair option.
I need to get it back to 1232-4291 Orange UK/Sensuous black

Thats the SI number NOT the CDA. Anyway, I uploaded the Orange UK firmware already so if you download it you can flash it straight back with flash tool:-
X10i UK Orange - http://www.multiupload.com/K1XB74M1WO
Failing that, the CDA you should be using is 1234-6152

Once again thanks alot
I once sent my phone in for repair and it was rooted and everything! The guy just said to me that the os is open source so it wouldn't make a difference. Three days later I got a brand new x10
Hey shukla, are you on Rogers?
I'm thinking of phoning in to get my warranty on my X10 since I think I have some issues on the 3 main buttons. What was the procedure and what did they tell you to do to get the warranty replacement? Or do they repair the phones?

Yes, I'm with rogers canada.
My phone stopped charging at one point, and the usb plug didn't work so I called them. They told me to first see if there was any hardware or water damage done to the phone (I said no because there wasn't any). Then he told me to do a factory reset off my phone, which didn't solve the problem. That he told me that within 3-5 business days, I will receive a new/refurbished phone. I just had to send back my ****ed up phone. They paid for the s&h.
He did scare me though cuz he said that if there was no problems with the phone and wasted their times, or if there was visible damage or water damage, i would get charged $150.
I also told him that my phone was rooted and running another countries firmware. He told me that its fine since the OS is open source. I hope their policies didnt change
Good luck! I hope I helped
Hey Shukla,
Thanks for replying. That's weird that they said if there was nothing wrong, they would charge $150? My phone's been having dropped calls lately and I did try my friend's X10 (swapped sims) and it would drop calls on my particular phone where his didn't.
Also, how was the quality of the replacement phone? Does it seem new? Any scratches or anything?
Yeah, I didn't understand the $150 thing either. The replacement was brilliant! No scratches shiny, smelt new... It seemed brand new

X10 not charging

Hi guys
A while back my phone would not connect to the computer and now it does not even charge I took it to orange and they said that it is out of Organe guarantee since I have had b=it for longer than 6 months and that I would need to send it to Sony. I called SOny and they said that I should send it to them and they will fix it for free if the fault is due ti a manufacturer fault but will chage if it is not due nto a manufacturer fault.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with the phone?? DO you thionk that this will be a manufacturer fault?
Broken USB port. Probably due to misuse, like too many connects and disconnects without being gentle removing the plug, etc, and if it is due to misuse, they will charge you the repair bill.
I have the same problem. Before sending the phone try a couple of options like
A Different Battery
A Different Charger ... PLUG + LEAD
Charge with the Phone turned off. --> Can take a couple of minutes before a a red light / screen comes on ive found out.
If all this fails then it must be a broken USB Port. Am going to be sending my off soon, as intermits and effects the volume button when plugged in . Just they that hold the phone for about 2 weeks and i need my phone
Hope you get it sorted
Just got my phone back after 3 weeks!!!! Same thing happened to me too, but was still under warranty, had to unmod my phone first tho lol

Orange are being retarded. Walk into a shop, request that they repair or replace it. Be firm yet polite, request manager if needed. Do it on a Saturday afternoon, busiest sales day, will not want you in front of customers, taking up sales time. Inform the manager that as the retailer your contract is with them not the manufacturer. It's his responsibility to make good on that contract, six months is an unreasonable period of time in which to develop a fault. He can get a replacement from SE but that it not your concern. The manager will know retail law, you now sound like you know what you are talking about, he'll cave, though he may need his area manager
There are common problems with both the USB port in the phone and with the included USB charging cable. Before trying to get the phone repaired you should first make sure the cable is good. The end of the cable that plugs into the phone can be easily deformed and wont properly connect (it plugs in but wont seat right so it wont charge/connect to PC) this happened to mine and I replaced it with a gigaware gold plated one that cost me $30 USD but charges my phone ~3x faster.

thanks for the advice guys, I will just have to send it off to Sony. I really wanted to get it sorted without sending it to Sony since I have rooted the phone and added a custom rom which may cause problems since the guarantee is void if the software has been tampered with. I have tried a new battery and have tried 2 other cables with no success.

I completely agree, I work at Comet and was under the impression that the retailer always sends the product off to the manufacturer since I bought the product from the retailer and not the manufacturer.
I don't suppose anyone knows how much this could cost?
You can unroot the phone and flash the manufacturers FW back on the phone although in most cases just rooting and flashing custom ROMs doesn't void your warranty as the Android OS is google software not the phone makers.

I had the same problem, went into local tmobile store, and they sent it off and I had it back, with a new main board and they had even replaced the screen protector for me all for free, in less than a week
I reflashed it with tmobile firmware before I sent it back btw
I was reading the Sony leaflet that you get with the X10 and it mentioned that the warranty does not cover changes in software however my problem is more of a software problem so I am hoping that this will not affect me. just hope they don't switch on the phone (after they get it working) and see a big blue piece of text saying Cyanogen with a blue line circulating around it
I cant believe Orange wont send it off for me whereas TMobile (who are more or less the same company) do send off the product off.
I am going to send it off to sony and will update this thread with the outcome as it may help other X10 users in the future
I had same charging issue but I got replacement of motherboard with new IMEI#.
Sony Ericsson gives 1 years warranty in India I was lucky... yes my phone was rooted and customized at the time when I gave it for repair.

I got my phone back today. They fixed the problem and re-installed their own hardware. The problem is that they installed the first 2.1 software and when I try to update my phone, it says you have the latest softtware Oh well, I can still install a custom rom and the main thing is that my phone is working again

broken usb port

Does anyone know where to send a sony xperia x10a for repair The usb port is broken Its rooted reckon be safe to send to SE
Where you bought it?
The same thing happened to me, i just contacted the ones who sold it to me and said that it wouldnt charge, and they fixed it. (That is actually a problem with the Xperia)
So my advice is: Contact the people who sold it to you, and say it wont charge

Hi,
I have the same problem. But when I sent back my x10 mi-December to SE, I got it back 2 weeks later without repair. The said that the usb connector is broken and it's not covered by the warranty. Now, I have contacted my vendor directly and I am waiting for their answer.
The usb problems seems very common with the x10. If the vendor won't repair the phone, I will try to take legal action against them and SE. I have already contacted a government service here in France and they told me that they should repair it.
Is there some else who managed to get his phone repaired?

GS3 turned off and wont boot

Mods - please move if in incorrect forum.
I was charging my GS3 and after unplugging it, I proceded to turn tethering on, and then put it in my pocket for 5 seconds. I took it out and it had turned off by itself. I cant turn the GS3 back on, either by the power button or using recovery mode. I have tried removing battery for a minute and then holding the power button for 20 seconds but no luck. Nothing at all happens when i plug the charger in, and I have left it in for 30 minutes and the device still wont boot.
Can anybody sugest what I can do to boot the device?
I have had no previous problems like this and im running stock firmware with no root. Im using a mac and not partitioned the drive to install windows and then odin, but I can do so if required.
What firmware are you using in this phone ? (Number if you can find it).
What is the phone ? Galaxy S3 International (GT-I9300) with 16GB inside ?
Perhaps a Sudden Death Symdrom for you with a total death...
Read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133401
First try another charged battery, yours may have just failed. Also check the battery terminals aren't bent or broken.
If it is still dead with a known good battery then looks like a warranty repair is required.
I cant find out the firmware unless I can get back on the phone :/ Yes its an I9300...
The bttery, I will try and find another GS3 owner but I dont think I can find any. Ill have a look into the thread also thanks for the info

I dont understand what that means? I installed an official firmware from on here 7 months ago when I left the UK and have not done anything to my phone since then.

Some device (Galaxy S3 with 16GB of internal storage memory) have a problem with the memory chip. So, if you are running a Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware, samsung have fix the bug and you are cover (so it's not a SDS problem).
But if you phone have an old firmware, you may be affected by this trouble. If it's your case, the unique solution is to put your phone on a repair center.
first, try a different battery. if that fails - send it to service for a motherboard replacement

Ive tried using a different battery and that doesnt seem to work either. The other GS3 works perfectly fine with my battery inside which suggests its a problem with my handset...
How can i find a dealer to send my unit to? I used to flash custom ROMs to the device but went back to stock 7 months ago when I left the UK to travel Australia, and did not reset the binary counter so it wont be covered by warranty
Since its dead they can't see binary counter. Best bet, send it to friend in uk for samsung repair...
I assume you have some sort of electronic copy of a receipt?

Ive currently got my mum looking for the physical receipt. I could try and get an electronic proof of useage from Vodafone who I bought the phone from but problably not a "receipt".
Dont really want t send my phone back to the UK, it wil be expensive and Im not sure when im returning home, so it may be quicker/cheaper to either take home myself or to try get it sorted here :/

If it's a contract phone, contact vodafone directly, probably won't need a receipt.
Is shipping a small package that expensive? Cheaper than a motherboard I bet

Yeah its a contract phone so thats good news
Shipping my phone would be expensive as I would have to have buy insurance, maybe $20 or something?

Cheaper than £150 GBP / $250 AUD for a used motherboard then Which by having it fitted, will void your 2 years EU warranty
Yeah, you are right. I think im just going to wait until I get back to the UK in a few months and send it off. I would get it done when i go to Asia next week but I am not staying in one place long enough - im guessing it would take a few weeks from sending it in to getting it back?
Also, I dropped my phone a few month back and the screen is all damaged but still useable. Samsung will still fix the problem I take it and not refuse to due to the damaged screen?
