OKay here's wat is happening ???
I m stuck on a pathetic 2.5G network (EDGE) and access internet through it
with Stock ROM and Stock Kernel the data transfer is high even though pages seem to load not as fast as the speed (DOWN rate) claims ???
With the OCed kernel available in this forum, the data transfer is slow but same pages open up fast it is the same os(win7) same browser(chrome) and i didnt even restart the pc.. (plz Don't considering browser caching i took care of it)
Am i paranoid or can this happen??? I m using megatron ROM with the latest OCed kernel posting in this forum ... HElp !!!
You're tethering to your PC/Laptop, right? AFAIK overclocking and changing ROMs don't just slow down or something. If something happens to the connection, it's either it works or not.
Can you give me some numbers like page load times, latencies, bandwidth, transfer rate, and the like? I'll try to help.
I'm also running the OC'd kernel so...you know xD
EDIT: Also, check if Win7 is updating itself.

i've searched and searched and can't find a related post to my problem. I have a CDMA touch pro (obviously) running merdins newest (i think) rom and i've tried three different radios. i connect my phone via usb using ICS hacks and using WMWifirouter my connection seems to work great. I go to speedtest.xxx whatever the one is that everyone posts the picture with and i get speeds from anywhere from 1000kb and 1200kb. That seems like the average most people also get, but when i download anything i can only seem to reach 100to 150kb pretty steadily. I also use a download manager sometimes and that has an automatic speed regulator and it shows my max bandwith available and that jumps between an average of 700kb to 1200kb but never gets under 500kb. Now i know its not the sites i'm downloading from because when i am d/ling anything i my surfing is very very very slow so i'm obviously using all the bandwith available. Now is this normal due to it being a cell connection?? if it is than i don't understand why everyone posts their phones internet speed because i could do the same when i know i'm only getting 150kb or so, or is it an issue that other people have and is fixable. ohh and i also had the same issue using the wifi connection thats why i began to use the usb because i thought it might be faster. sorry for the super long message but i would appreciate any help, thankx
ohh i forgot
i don't know if it makes a diff but my service is through sprint. thankx again
EDIT: first off i didn't realize that i could edit my old post instead of making a new one. (i'm new at forums)
for everyone who wasted time to read my thread sorry. i think i figured it out. the speed tests are in kilobits not bytes and that is the issue. i guess i just thought my service should be faster. i've read posts of people claiming to get download speeds of about 300kbs. Still if anyone knows how to increase my speed please let me know. thanks
Ill try to put in pertinent info w/out babbling
I bought my T day b4 yesterday rooted it with easy rooter the software version is now android 2.2.1
kernel 2.6.32.36-cfs
ziggy471'sbuildbox #041011-0922
sun april 10-2011
with rom The Perfect storm v1.3
First things first I have no concern for the battery life my t stays plugged in 20-22 hrs a day......What I need/want is a fast T and faster internet.
I installed "cpu master to overclock but have no idea how or what to set that to would like a fast but staple setting to overclock to,or a better app to do it with whichever.
I also installed "wireless Tether" version 2.0.7 and again have no clue as how it needs to be setup for fastest possible Internet.
I drive a truck so my t is running Google maps,my phone,Facebook, and mail all setup to be ran via voice along with tethering my laptop to run my truck software.
any other tweaks/app,suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
ohh and BTW I cant stand a cluttered up screen so any themes that let me put "like "apps in a folder or things that let me condense stuff together.
Please excuse the Noobness my last handheld system was a stock palm 600 that took me 3 days to run over with 80,000LBS,dont really want to do that again.
Well you're off to a good start. As far as fast internet goes there's really nothing you can do about that. You're driving around in a truck all day and your speed is going to only be affected by the strength and type (evdo/3G/LTE) of your signal. Wireless tether can only be as fast in "giving" its internet as the internet its "receiving."
As far as speed of your thunderbolt goes your best bet will be a streamlined rom and a kernel that supports over-clocking. I only use setcpu for over-clocking and all the kernels I've used as of late have worked with it's auto-detect frequency setting. Its very simple to use you just use a max and min slider to adjust the range that the processor should reside in based on your phone's ever changing processing "needs". This allows you to mitigate the downside of over-clocking which is battery drain but since you're almost always plugged in no big deal. For your situation check out Imoseyon's kernels. There's one that can be overclocked to 1.92Ghz but be warned few phones will be stable at this speed. Make a "heat profile" under profiles in set cpu and set it to run at stock speed whence you reach 50C. Then move your max slider up one notch and use it heavily for an hour. Every time you move up and are stable, repeat. When you are no longer stable drop one notch and that's the best performance you can get.
It's like Seinfeld said, "Find out what will kill me, then back it off a notch."
Good luck

Thanx ill check out Imoseyon's kernels.I did bump my cpu all the way to 1920,highest it hit was 48c (but it is mounted in front of a/c vent)running almost as much as i could through at it (for now) im sure i can find some more stuff to try...lol thanx for that info as what to keep a eye on.
as far as the internet i knew it can do only what it can get, more of the type question there was I dont know what all the settings in the tether app "channel frequency, and lan network settings" along with in the advanced radio info "toggle ciphering, toggle DNS check " I assume the best to make sure it gets best available would be the "CMDA + LTE/EvDo auto" setting and what is the "CMDA auto(PRL)? to update prl automatically?
just got the atrix and when i download stuff over wifi its almost the exact same speed as if it was downloading over the network. i turned data off and only used wifi and still its slow as hell. my incredible doesnt do this so i know its not an issue with my router. could i have gotten a bad phone? ive only seen like 1 thread asking about slow wifi download so maybe i did?

My wifi is fast.
What is your carrier, what firmware are you on, and what have you done to your phone (if anything at all).
Att I just signed up 4 days ago. I'm on stock 83 firmware. I'd did root it just so I could sideload apps
I'm guessing it's should get a replacment. The wifi shouldn't be like this
I would simply unroot it and trade it for a new one if I were in your situation at an ATT store.
Good luck
why dont you do some speed tests with the app to quantify your slow speeds. then compare to speeds from other atrix owners so you can judge based on the numbers.
its def a problem with the phone. my speed test are about 8 mb/s but anything i download from the internet or market its about 250 kb/s. my incredible will download anything on wifi at about 1 mb/s. i even just put greyblur on and changing roms doesn't do anything

4.1.83 and older firmware on teh atrix has a stupid market cap that limits download speed to a few hundred kb/s. the newer gingerbread builds removed this cap. im not sure about the download speed from the internet though, can you watch youtube vids on 720p on your atrix using your wifi without lagging?
yep just loaded up a couple hq videos and they run perfect

Omega and Wanam are not stock roms?
Its from the router. I had the same problem. In my hometown, no problem with wifi. In the town that I study, it reconnect every 5-10 minutes. Turns out it was the security. I set it to WPA2 from the router and no reconnects since.

Hi
i dont think that the router is the Prob. because i have set it to
- WPA2...don´t work
- set the wifi to open ..without passwort...don´t work
- change the chanel under 10....don´t work
- change wifi name....don´t work
- on the S3 set wifi/sleep to off...don´t work
but if i on AOKP/CM10 Roms all work fine....just Sammy based roms have this Prob.....strange

One word....WTF?
I think he means to try different kernels.
I've had Wi-Fi issues on and off with various Sammy ROMs
No issue with my setup below.

The stock samsung rom definitely has some wifi problems, I've posted previously about incorrect behaviors when using 40MHz sideband. No such problems on cyanogen 10.
Can you please open the build.prop of each of these ROMs and tell me what the value is for
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=
On my stock Samsung ROM (LTE international) this is set to 180
what ever your value is for yours, halve it and then tell me if that makes any difference?
So in this example change it to wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=90
You do this with a root browser app (free on this forum) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=915223&d=1329956263
or rootexplorer. Make sure that you have read write permissions to exit the file by long pressing it in rootbrowser/explorer.
Save the build.prop with the new value. Change the permissions back to read only. Reboot the phone.
Test the change and see how it fairs against the previous rating (you say is very bad). If the phone is perfect, keep trying by adjusting the value is say 10 or 20 incriments back towards its original value. i.e. 90 is good. Change it to 110. Test it again.
The reason you want to do things like this is because whilst your wifi is on it will be scanning every 90 seconds instead of 180 and although this will maintain a solid connection it will more than likely impede battery performance. i.e your phone battery won't last as long.
You keep increasing in increments till you find a happy medium between maintained connectability and lost of battery power to increased scan rate.
IF however dropping it to 90 does not satisfy you with the connection strength (what ever your test is of transferring a large file of your liking?) then reduce the numerical value to less. I recommend that if you have gone to less than half of the standard rate already and your are not happy, that you test by reducing it in much smaller increments e.g from 90 down to 85.
After all of this, if you are not happy with the amount of consumption your battery is chewing on a lower rate for an "ok" connection then maybe you may want to look into flashing a different modem that is more suitable.
To give you an idea of just the type of thing that goes on in this Android world, my Galaxy S2 had a LPQ modem on it as standard from Optus. This was a very poor choice on Optus behalf cause for in order to maintain any sort of connection the wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=10
YES!! Every 10sceonds it was scanning to maintain connection. I switched to LPR modem and reduced my wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=360
The result was a great solid connection and much better battery performance.
I believe that the modem is not just deviced dependent, but also region (geographically) as well as provider dependent.
I can bet money on it that the issue you have is most definitely a not suited modem. Most of the time the providers give you the best modem for your phone on their network....and othertimes they are completely wrong and totally **** things up.
I flashed a Telstra 4G modem onto my Optus 4G S3.....I did not get any signal what so ever besides 4G. Wifi was average (to nearly no change). And that was after I had flashed the stock XXAI9 modem (UK) which had great signal and wifi across most areas but did not ever pick up 4G LOL.
Hope this information has proved valuable to you.
Regards,
James
PS: I have no idea where you are located or what network so can't even give you a vague recommendation as to what modem you should migrate to?
i cant find this line in this roms....just in ressuration rom.....can i copy this to Omegas build.prop ?
Hi... I have trouble with my wifi since yesterday...
The problem is that the phone can connect to the network perfectly but it has a really low link speed, 5 mbps and the wifi signal strenght is pretty good. I don't understand why this is happening.. .
What I have notice is that when I turn the wifi on, at first when the wifi icon is grey the wifi link speed is at 65 mpbs which I think that it was were it always has been but immediately turns to 5 mpbs.
Another thing that happens is that if I let the wifi on, after sometime it gets kinda like stuck, the connection is lost and the icon is grey but I can't turn it off.
My phone is a samsung galaxy s II (I9100) running CM rom, 10.2-20131014-NIGHTLY
Any advice about how to fix this problem?

You should try using a different rom like slimsaber rom by Fusionjack or cyanogenmod sabermod by Markox89.
Thanks for the reply, gsstudios.
I have a question, isn't there a way to fix the problem without having to use another rom? I don't think that the problem lays in the rom that I'm using, because like I said before, the problem started yesterday and I have the phone for a couple of years now.

You could try a different kernel like dorimanx 9.44 v005. If that bootloops, try dorimanx 8.44 v004. Since your WiFi toggle freezes after sometime, it could be a problem with the ROM. It could be due to some kind of corruption of the WiFi component in the ROM or maybe there is some interference with your WiFi signal.
Hope this helps, gsstudios
I installed Kernel_Dorimanx-V8.43-[12-21]-[24-10]-JB-SGII-PWR-CORE from dorimanx site and it didn't help with the situation, still I get a link speed of 5 mbps. Now, after flashing the kernel I have a new problem: I don't have root access anymore.
What can I do?

You should be able to get root access if you update SuperSU (if it's installed).
I can't update anything or do much things with the low link speed of wifi that the phone has...

Can't you send the file through your computer? Here is the flashable zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip?retrieve_file=1
Your problem with wifi seems very weird. Are you using 5ghz or 2.5ghz channel? If you've tried both, check if you wifi setting have changed on your router. And are you sure there is no interference that is potentially slowing down your signal?
Well, now things got worse, wifi directly won't turn on: not from the icon, not from the toggle bar. It's dead. I had the wifi on automatic so I don't know what band was on..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I found a way to get the wifi working again. But still I got the same problems like before: low link speed and after sometime the wifi freeze and I have to reboot the phone to get it working again.
On a side note, I have downloaded an app a few days back called wifi status wich is a widget app that let you see the wifi link speed and I don't understand a thing: it shows 2 things: the wifi link speed, for example 5mbps and down that shows something liike: -63dBm
That thing dBm is something that always change numbers...
Any idea of what that is?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now I have a link speed of 19mbps, a few minutes back was 26mbps... But it went back to 19 mbps... I don't know what is happening with the phone.
Help please, I don't know what to do...
