Flashing bionix-v - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just odined back to jfd, rooted and used oclf lagfix. Question is can I flash from this point or do I need to remove lagfix?

Remove lagfix.

Thanks a million. I thought so but needed to be sure. P.s. I'm about to flash my FIRST custom rom any pointers.

The two top dogs around here imo are bionex or axura. Each have their own pros and cons (barely cons). I'm personal to Axura myself, although im still on nero v5. Been getting tired of redoing my homescreens over and over again. I suggest going into the release threads, found in developmet forum, for the respective roms and taking a look at screen shots and youtube search video reviews.
You really cant go wrong either way. Check out the rom bible thread for more awesome roms.

I would defantly stick with the Auxura rom or Som's Bionex rom, Ive bounced between the two, Each rom has it's own feel, while Axura's roms are ultra fast, The Bionex rom has more Gingerbread feel and smoothness, Make your own decesion, but as the previous poster said you can't go wrong with either of them.
Just a word of advice, get in the habbit of disabling Voodoo each time you flash, I made the mistake once and ended up softbricking the phone and it was a nightmare for me getting it back to stock via ODIN.
Good Luck

Actually, if you already have voodoo installed and the rom you're flashing to also has it, you don't need to disable it. I speak from experience

This is true, but new. It has only been that way for a little while. Also it ONLY is true if you are going from Voodoo 5 to Voodoo 5 (meaning the one that has the RED recovery).

Yes. Yes it would. Read the post right above yours where I said (emphasis added):

Vibrant root and overclock help

I'm new too the whole rooting deal, but I know I want to. I already downloaded the one touch program or whatever it is. I was really just wandering about overclocking my cpu.
I've read that I will need to install a new kernel but I don't know which one. I just don't want it to change the look or operation of my phone. I like the touchwiz and everything,i just want to speed it up. Does any one know what I should do?
Also if I root will I be able to do the 2.2 update when it comes out?
Thanks for any help I can get.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
As a newb myself let me try and help. First off take some time and do alot of research on rooting, flashing roms and kernals. Read, read and read. There is alot of info here. It is possible to mess your phone up if you dont know what your doing. Now thay being said...... Using ryanza root plus lag fix is probably the easiest way to root. If your hard ware locked, well thats another story. And if you want to overclock you will need a custom kernal, remember what I said about reading. Now depending on the kernal you may or may not be able to get the 2.2 when it rolls out. Just take some time and educate yourself, and for goodness sake please make nandroid before you do anything drastic.

Like greggory said, you should check to see if you are hardware locked (cannot access download and recovery modes).
To check:
1 turn off your phone
2 Hold volume + and - and power buttons
3 Keep holding until you see the vibrant screen pop up a second time. Now release ONLY the power button, still holding volume + and -.
4 Keep holding volume buttons until you get to the recovery screen. Then release.
If your phone continues to boot normally, you are hardware locked.
If you are locked, go to the Bible thread and scroll until you see the hardware locked fix. Follow the directions there.
The Bible thread should have everything you need to know about modding your phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks alot, I will check out the bible.
And good news for me, my phone is not hardware locked.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thats good its not locked. The bible is a great tool for info. I also read some of the post by bionix , involving custom roms. Check out there website. teamwhiskey.com. Just be sure you make a backup thru rom manager in case you mess something up. This is a awesome forum with alot of knowledgable people. Unfortunately Im not one of them....

It looks like JAC's OC/UV kernel would be the best for overclocking. Does that sound like a good assumption?
Would that change the way phone looks or functions, in terms of regular use like touch wiz?

I like the JAC kernel and no, it won't change anything about the way your phone looks. It'll just run faster
Great. Would you suggest the regular kernel or the voodoo one?
And thanks again for all the help.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm still learning too, although I know I'll never really dip into programming. I use Bionix 1.9 with Jac's kernal. I did have a problem with Pandora and the media player shutting off, but after adjusting the min mhz to 400, it hasn't frozen yet. I love this stuff. I just wish I could get an asnwer on how to flash some of the mods in the other forum like the clear notification bar. I posted in Q&A and never got a response. Too bad. I can't contribute, but I would still like to learn.....
So you haven't had any of the lag problems?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Ok, I guess I'm going with bionix 1.9 with JAC OC/UV voodoo. That sounds like a good tried and tested way to go.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
What is the difference between bionix 1.9 w/Jac's OC/UV kernel 1.1 and bionix 1.9 w/Jac's OC/UV/Voodoo kernel 1.1?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The voodoo kernel has the voodoo lag fix already in it. If im not mistaken.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Alright. Now I think I'm going to use bionix fusion 1.1. Do I need to flash that before or after JAC's voodoo kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
so the stock kernel isn't that good?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
From what I've read the voodoo kernel just has the added lag fix to speed up your phone more.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So is there any order to needing to flash bionix fusion and JACs OC/UV Voodoo?

Any one know of anything else I can do with my fascinate. Running 1.1 Zinc with no kernel. My phone does not approve. Anything I'm missing out on?

I wouldn't approve of that, either!
Seriously, if you were able to flash a ROM, and you did it through Clockwork Recovery/ROM Manager, then you are running a modded kernel.
Voodoo seems to be causing some people more trouble than they feel it's worth, so I'd suggest one of jt1134's or Dirrk's non-Voodoo kernels, or Birdman's once it's past the testing stage.
Non-voodoo? I must have missed those. Search is not being my friend. Care to link a guy up? The only kernel threads I can find are their voodoo kernels.

swing by irc #samsung-fascinate on freenode.net. check topic for kernel links
My phone started lagging badly 3 days after the vodoo lagfix...how ironic. When I disabled it, it nearly bricked my phone. Desperate to get my phone up and running, I did a wipe. It killed the phone's internal memory. Had to reflash back to stock and since then my phone has been running really well w/o the lagfix even. Maybe my phone had a bad image like a computer. Not doing anything else to my phone til froyo comes out. I am rooted though.

You could try more cow bell. I heard it's the only cure for some fevers.
I've been semi-bricked three times when I've disabled Voodoo, and I did it right. So I use a non-voodoo kernel now. I'll wait until these bugs are ironed out. Join the irc chat and jt and the other devs commonly post kernel links.
Yup.. Using jt's 1031 test kernel now (novoodoo). Running beautifully.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Technically voodoo hasn't bricked a single phone. User error and then likely a small error in the proccess itself have caused some ugly problems but it can be overcame with a little work

I said semi-bricked. It wouldn't get past the boot screen. It couldn't have been user error two of those times, because I used reboot button to do it.

Thank you for this. Seriously though, I've been running jt's voodoo kernels since their release with only minor problems. I've disabled voodoo and flashed other kernels no less than three times without issue. Granted it does take a while to boot after enabling/disabling voodoo. The first few times I thought I screwed up, but it always boots for me.

I think it's a phone to phone thing. Some people have no problems just turning off voodoo when they flash ROMs and kernels. I have to use adrynalyn's voodoo uninstaller and wipe completely if I want to change ROMs or kernels.
Weird.
Yea when I tried to turn voodoo off it took 4 reboots before it took. No issues after that though.
*EDIT* Posted in wrong thread...my apologies
Used the "reboot button" app to disable Voodoo. It hung on "Samsung" for over an hour after robot women said "operation completed" or whatever. i finally admitted defeat and did a battery pull. Restart resulted in a boot loop. I was able to recover following the "remove Voodoo" thread and flashing the stock Nandroid. From there I flashed jt's v.4 Super Clean ROM with Frost's theme. Having had the stones to try Voodoo again but honestly my phone is running good with just the Super Clean ROM. Having a recent Titanium backup really helped get my phone back in order quickly.
While it was an unpleasant experience it ended well and resulted in a nice clean and fast Fascinate. Best part though is that I'm no longer afraid to flash my phone since I now know I can recover fairly quickly.

Yeah, that's pretty much what destroyed any hope I had of *not* being a total ROM-a-holic. I have owned this thing for no more than 2 weeks and have pushed over a dozen different roms/kernels on it.
I cannot even imagine what this poor phone will be going through once we start getting things like Cyanogen's up and running.
(currently using jt's 1031 USCC non-voodoo kernel...at least until I get home.)

[ROM][04.20.11] Stock ED01/Debloated Debinged ED01

Hey folks,
I put this together earlier. Seems to work ok. Fully bloated, but deodexed and zpaligned ED01.
It contains busybox, and has been rooted.
Does not contain recovery, kernel, or radio. Those you must supply. Chances are, EC01 radio works just as well as the ED01 radio.
Ammend only at this time! This means use CWR 2.5.x.
http://adrynalyne.grdlock.net/bamf/roms/ed01_stock.zip
This one is a bit better. Once again, no recovery, kernel, or radio.
Debloated/Debinged (even browser and long press search)/Deodexed/Zipaligned/latest Maps, Gmail, Market, Voice Search. HAS NOT BEEN TESTED YET.
http://www.multiupload.com/BKHF5DKJ18
You work fast. Thanks a bunch.
Downloading debloated version now... I will test it and let you know if any issues come up... fyi, I'm running jt's latest voodoo kernel and (obviously) EC01 radio... thanks for your hard work

Can you share what are kind of ROM, recovery, kernel, and radio you using on your phone? And the link to download them.
Thanks
Debloated/debinged with a touch of blur. Great job man. Really appreciate all the work you put into our phone.
Currently running EB01 stock, EC10 voodoo, and EC01 radio.
Can i just flash this rom after wiping cache & dalvik? or do I need to turn off voodoo, etc? Rom doesn't contain kernel, etc so I think I'd be ok?
hhmmmm shuold i do an ota then this? to get the readio and kernals?

Is there a benefit to the new radio? If not I will just hang tight for the community project.

Oldie needs some reminding about Froyo...

Hey guys. I haven't been on froyo in a LONGGG time.
Basically I flashed ics on my brothers phone because he here wanted it to look cool like mine lol.
Now after a few weeks he's getting like 2 hours on his battery. He's a heavy user.
I'm going to get him back onto froyo...
My question is which thread do I follow on instructions for froyo rom flashing I mean I remember the voodoo lag fix etc but I totally forgot how to enable etc.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Voodoo is enabled via recover if i remember.. just odin, root and flash rom and kernel.. then go into recov and turn on voodoo lol
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Yeah alot of roms will enable after flash, I believe you have to repartition in Odin too or you'll throw it into a softbrick. Like the previous post said if it does not enable then for into your voodoo setting in the recovery and change it there.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
IIRC once you enable the lagfix and Linda does her thing, you should end up with 4 massive files on your internal called system/...Lzo, data/...Lzo or something like that (you'll know exactly what I am talking about when you see them), these can be deleted as Supercurio said they aren't needed. It is just what happens when the lagfix is engaged.
Thanks guys, but the lagfix wasn't like.. you know my only question.
I was trying to ask how i would go about Flashing the ROM.
Does this seem like a good method?
ODIN to stock
Flash any Froyo ROM without doing anything else
Enable voodoo if it already isnt enabled
isn't that like the basic thing i have to do? did i miss anything?
again thanks guys.
My bad. Yep just like you said. Maybe take care to make sure froyo bootloader but I guess if you Odin then that part is out of the equation.

Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Are you talking about the old One Click Lagfix? I don't think you need to worry about that nowadays in your ICS ROMs, let alone those old fixes even working. I could be wrong, but the lag fixes I know about (voodoo and OCL) just changed file systems from RFS to EXT, and you don't have that problem with ICS ROMS.
PS supercurio's voodoo lagfix is better if you ever go back to Froyo, and almost every custom ROM you see will have a kernel that has it enabled by default.
He's talking about this
RyanZA's lag fix: will it work on the vibrant? **UPDATE**
I don't use it or know anything about it. When I'm on 2.2/2.3, is always use Voodoo.
Yea man, I've honestly never heard of RyanZa's lagfix lol I had to look it up also, and it seems rather....antiquated if you ask me lol
As Wood mentioned, most Froyo and GB roms run with voodoo already enabled, so you don't need to worry about running a lagfix or anything.
I'm not entirely sure about ICS roms, however I can tell you that you most certainly do not want this RyanZa thing.
I remember using oclf at the early time if the vibrant. I only used it back on rooted stock 2.1 though. After that it was voodoo. Voodoo is twice as fast anyways. Regardless I think it was only for samsung roms, not aosp based. Isn't voodoo the same way?
The last time I used it was on the onyx and obsidian roms, back when voodoo caused soft bricks if it want disabled between flashing. Once that got fixed oclf seemed to have gotten abandoned.
Wasn't this method outdated after eclair? I remember using it when the Vibrant first came out but not since.
