A HUGE thanks in advance for any help you can offer:
I have a Viesonic G-Tablet, and I've flashed a couple of different ROM's on it - TNT Lite 4.4 and VEGAn-TAB 7.0 RC1.
LOOOOONG story short:
Tried to install Ubuntu, no luck.
Downloaded ZPad to try it out, installed. Didn't like it, used ClocworkMod to recover to a previous TNT Lite 4.4 install. From there, reflashed to Vegan...
And that's when the problems started. Namely, Market no longer works properly. None of my downloads are successful. It gives a "Download error - Download was unsuccessful, please try again."
So, after trying again to go back to TNT Lite and having the same trouble, I NVFlashed back to stock, wiped EVERYTHING per the directions on XDA, in the order prescribed - did everything by-the-book, and still no luck on any ROM. TNT Lite, Vegan - both of them adamantly refuse to download anything from the market.
I've searched to my wits end not only in this thread, but others as well. I've reset the data, reset the cache, uninstalled the market update - you name it, I've tried it.
Could it be your internet connection? Do other devices on your network download from the internet fine?
Thanks for the question. I guess I should have been a little more specific: Yes, great connection. I can browse the web fine, even download from Amazon's appstore - but that's where it ends. The weirdest thing is that I have noticed that I can download Firefox from the Marketplace, but literally - that's it. Nothing else, and I've tried close to 40 different apps now. All fail to download.
I've tried clearing the cache, etc...
I was even desperate enough to pretty much do a system wipe and come up clean. I used ClockworkMod to format everything - even the SDcard. Made sure to set the partition size to 2048/0, the whole nine yards. Wiped all the data, cleared/formatted cache, so I'm at a loss.
*UPDATE 4/18/11 - On a whim, I decided to use ClockworkMod to reset my User Data, and signed my tablet in under another Google account I had. As I type this, I'm downloading all the apps that I was unable to download with my "usual" account. So maybe there's a bug on Google's side? How would I even go about fixing that?
I'm having this same problem. NVFLASH and reFLASH numerous times and still no luck can someone please help. Can't install anything from market at all. it download and as soon as it finish dl and start to install it will restarted itself and nothing happen. please help. THanks
Exact problem I'm having. I've tried five different roms, from Vegan to CM7, to older TnT's and Calkulin's, nothing will let me download and install from the market. I did yet another full NVFlash last night and repartitioned the tablet, still no luck after flashing CM7. It started off allowing me to download a few dozen apps then giving me the download error, but now the first app I try gives me that.
Did anyone else here come down from TwoTapsX or another 1.2 based rom? Seems to me the issue started right about the time I NVFlashed down from that.

I just tried this myself, sure enough I can download with another Gmail account, but not my main one.
This has to be an issue with Google...I am having the same issue also.
How the hell did I quote myself up there?
Mine is downloading again, all I did was sign in as my backup account, wipe data and dalvik cache, reflash then fix permissions. When i logged in again it worked. Don't know which step actuallly fixed it.
I just deleted the data under app management and they started working again for me.

I had the same. Uninstalling Flash player seem to have solved the issue for me
Me too
I seem to have the same problem however I do not get an error message at all, I just see the application in the notification bar preparing to download except instead of even downloading it basically just disappears. I had this problem ever since installing Vegan tab 5.1.1.
I had the same problem...drove me crazy...finally figured out that you can just log intp the market on my laptop and install everything from there....
Hi! I've been using the search feature and How Tos, but my problem is that I just received a warranty replacement Fascinate for my speaker going out, prior to yesterday I was rolling happily along with CommRom UKB, but now with ED05 already on my phone I'm not sure I want to back track... I want to try ccampos784's [ROM][ED05] PowerWashed ED05 ROM and Debloated Touchwiz ED05 ROM, and I have the zip, I understand how to flash that, but don't I need an odin file? And to get CWM or something? Should I use the ones I have from before (cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar)? and since the Odin file for ED05 is stock, not rooted wouldn't that just be a circle and put me where I am with Stock ED05. My main reason for rooting is Debinging, so... can anyone help me out here please? I think I am just confusing myself more the more I try to research....
download the powerwash ed05.zip and push to your sd
odin cwmall.tar
three finger boot into recovery
wipe data
install zip from sd
Should work fine installing over your current ed05 build...atleast it did for me.
*edit
btw the powerwash ed05 rom is already rooted/debloated/debigned/deodexed/zipaligned/go launcher...etc
Thanks!!!
So Simple and what I've done a bunch of times, I was just making it way more complicated than it needed to be, thanks for the clear "Just do this" Basically. Now I'm embarrassed that I had to ask...
I've rooted and installed roms on other phones before, but this one has me really confused. Currently I've rooted using the ubuntu guide, installed cwm-3-30fix, "modified stock firmware" found in some guide out there that said it was needed to install "latest cwm recovery" which was red 3.xx, curently still on the 2.5cwm 3-30fixall recovery. So should I go back to stock ED04? Update to ED05? Place point me in the direction to install cm7 or other rom. And from what I've read I also need to worry about the modems now? I also tried installing the rom managers recovery, then learned from another thread it doesn't work with the fascinate.

Your question cannot be directly answered, but Ill try my best...
-flash the version of cwm that the rom you are trying to install calls for.
-I use cwm 2.5.1.x for all stock rom's and the older froyo roms
-Some newer roms require cwm3
-All mtd roms such as miui, cm7, VGB require cwm4
Read the vanilla gingerbread thread in the development section and that should bring you up to speed. I recommend to odin the verizon official ed05 package in the development section. One reason being you do not need to flash a modified kernal to get cwm to stick. Also the powerwash ed05 package is debinged/ debloated/deodexed/ zip aligned/ rooted. Its a nice functional rom with some tsm enhancements.
Thank you for giving me a place to start! is there info on the modems/radios in the vanilla thread?

There is an app in the market that allows you to make odin backups. Its called odin maker. Haven't tried it yet though. This might be useful at some point in your endeavors.

Nice! ill have to play around with that...
Thanks Droidstyle! Now I'm on ED05 powerwash. Nice speed compared to stock. I'm very happy now.
Glad to hear you guys are happy with the ROM! Just as a reminder, the PowerWash ROM has been updated since yesterday up to beta v4 and resolves some issues. Check the main thread for more details.
Is anyone else having problems with app storage on the powerwash ROM?
I originally loaded the ROM and after restoring my backups from Titanium the phone became an unusable due to constant crashes of just about everything imaginable. Tried wiping it and restoring a few apps at a time - worked fine until I rebooted at which point all my prefs were gone and the same crashes started before I could even unlock the screen.
So, I decided maybe it was a problem with my backups and decided I'd start clean. I did a full wipe and discovered that I can't install more than about 4 apps before I start getting insufficient space errors. When I go to settings->phone storage, I still have 1.42GB free under internal phone storage.
I've now done the following procedure twice top-to-bottom, and end up with the same results:
- ODIN ED05 OTA ROM & .pit file.
- Boot into ED05
- Setup Google Account
- Load Market -> Install Maps, all 3 Angry Birds variants, Beautiful Widgets, Pocket Cloud (just a few big apps to prove there is no problem with my hardware and that it works under stock).
- Reboot & ODIN CWM.
- Flash PowerWash beta4, wipe davlik, data, cache, battery stats. Confirm voodoo is off.
- Boot into PWb4.
- Setup Google Account
- Load Market -> Install BW, PocketCloud, Maps, Angry Birds. After this, all additional app installs fail due to insufficient space.
A df from the command line shows 1.4GB free on /data and none of the other partitions are 100% full, so I don't think this is a voodoo-partition-with-a-non-voodoo-kernel problem.
As I said, I've done this whole thing twice. Apps install fine on Stock, fail on PowerWash. Nobody else seems to be complaining, so this must be an obvious thing I'm missing, but I'm not sure what. Any help?
OK, this may not be directly ROM related, but I'm not sure how to work around it. From what I can tell, every time I load the market, it must be background updating from 3.0.26 to 3.0.27. If I go into applications, wipe the data and uninstall the update, I can then go into the market and install one additional app. When I try to install another, I'm told there is no space, but if I go to the Applications control panel, I'll see that I've been upgraded to 3.0.27 again. If I uninstall the update and repeat the process, I can get yet another app, but the process keeps repeating itself.
Is there a way to either lock the 3.0.26 market version or to flash back to the old market?

Want to try this out for me? It flashes back the old market that came with ED05 stock. Flash in CWM, then once you boot up go into settings>applications> Market and clear data and cache on it to clear up any issues.

There's another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16324333) with another person having the same issue. Seems to be related to the latest market.
I had just finished doing about what you are recommending when you posted.
For reference for anyone else - Once I started searching beyond just the fascinate forums, I've found that 3.0.27 causes problems for a lot of people on other platforms (mostly apps over 30MB will fail, but others at random as well), and there doesn't seem to be a way to block the update from 3.0.26. You have to roll back to the 2.x version (which I did), and that seems to fix the problem.
I'd suggest leaving the 2.x version in the future version of the ROM and making the 3.0 market an addon if people want to experiment with it after google hammers out the bugs.
(Alternatively, people have had luck making a temporary /cache partition inside an ext4 img file, but that seems complicated and hacky to include in a ROM).
Thanks!

Actually, this might be fixed soon, since a voodoo kernel is in the making and it uses Ext4 partitions. Can't give you an ETA (and it's not my kernel), but check the couple last posts in the main ROM thread for details.
First, I apologize for the inevitable incorrect use of terminology - I'm trying my best.
After hours and hours of reading up, I finally attempted to internally install CM10.1 to my Nook Tablet 8GB v 1.4.3. I appreciate all the helpful posts on this forum, and primarily used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056626 to go through the steps. I hit a few snags along the way, but in the end I think I was successful.
Now I get an error message every time I boot: "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." I click okay, then everything seems to work fine. I have tried some suggestions from here, including clearing caches and stopping google's automatic syncs, but nothing has fixed the problem. As far as I can tell, everything works okay otherwise.
Any ideas on how to fix this message? Could it mean that I did not successfully complete the installation process? (Are there ways to tell if the installation was not successful other than not having a brick?)
Android Version 4.2.2
CyanogenMod Version 10.1-20130421-NIGHTLY-acclaim
Happy to provide any more details that would be helpful. And many thanks in advance.

This happened to me after I dirty-flashed CM 10.1 over another CM 10-based rom. Let me see if I can remember what I did to make it go away... I think it has something to do with a file or process that Android uses to index/keep track of media files on internal and external sd cards, and deleting or wiping the cache or data on that particular process fixes things. I will do some checking around and post back here if I (re)find more specific info.
EDIT: Found it, I think... Do a force stop, clear data, and clear cache on the "Media Storage" app, then reboot and see if it goes away.

Sorry...long week.
Unfortunately, it didn't work. I had also seen suggestions on the forum of similarly stopping and clearing Google Account Manager, Google Services Framework, and a few others (can remember them all), but those didn't do it either.
I have now also had an error message about Themes not responding - can't remember the exact wording. It's happened 2 or 3 times, doesn't seem to have any other consequences other than requiring me to acknowledge the error.
Could I have strayed somewhere along the installation pathway and inadvertently made this a dirty install?

You need to load into recovery and do a factory reset/wipe data, clear cache, clear dalvik cache. If you dirty installed (installed over another ROM that's not in the same version) you'll have problems with the ROM. If you're using an older cm7 or cm9 I'll suggest you update to cm10+ succulent.

I tried to go back to the beginning to see what I did wrong - hoping to fix the problem but also trying to learn. I'll explain in a bit of detail...
Tried to follow the process outline here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368. I was able to access root using NT16or8gbV47SDimagefile.img, but was unable to get any further as it kept saying "No files found" when trying to flash rom and gapps zipped files. After trying multiple reformats, partitions, etc, I abandoned following this process. (Of note, I did make sure that debugging and allowing installation from unknown sources were active - to no avail.)
I then followed this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056626. In addition to Step 6 - "Wipe data and factory reset," I also cleared cache and dalvik cache as suggested. Everything else went very smoothly. I've now been running CM 10.1 for a few hours without any error messages. I'll report back anything that pops up over the next few days.
I tried to improvise a bit and flash CWM recovery internally as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640958. I was never succesful using flash_CM9-10_CWM_6.0.2.5_8-16gb_emmc.zip, though I'm not sure it's really necessary. (In trying to do this, I modified step 2.b from Digixmax's guide - rather than using the recovery image from CM9-10_CWM_v6.0.1.2_8-16gb_tools_sdcard.zip, I tried using the flashable emmc.zip noted prior. In the end, I just followed Digimax's steps without modifications.) What do you think? Is there any reason to continue trying to flash CWM internally?
Thanks a million to all.

As long as you have SDcard-based CWM available for recovery purpose (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31) you don't really need to flash CWM internally. But if you'd like to flash it internally you can grab a flashable CWM zip file from Succulent's repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery and install it using SD-cased CWM (just like you had installed the ROM/gapps zip files except there is no need for wiping cache/data & doing factory reset in this case).

Many will not make those suggestions as it tends to pit one persons work against another. Also what works great on one device will or may not work the same on another. That is why you are encouraged to try many and depending on what kind of user you are, you may benefit from some more than others.
Hint: look into roms that have been around for a while. Post count will help you there. Start reading from the back of thread which will tell you the most recent issues folks may have been having. If you dont like the issue, or there is no solution, dont flash and move on.
Another hint on the cleanliness of a flash.
Factory wipe 3 time
Flash rom
Flash rom again as 2 different flashes can produce 2 different results.
Flash gapps
Wipe Davlik and Cache
Boot up and let sit 10 or so
Reboot and set up
That is as clean as you can get. System UI failure is common with dirty flash. Get all those file reminents out of there.
Have fun

I am back to having system UI failure. The problem came up after the automatic update of google play.
Now, the systemui failure has dissapeared after I re-flashed the Validus rom through the recovery mode. But the google play services are not working. The last time I was able to get all back to "normal" by also re-flashing gapss.
If I re-flash gapps, I guess I will have to remove the google account and re-sign in. But after another automatic update to google play services, I will be back to the system UI failure.
The options I see are:
1. Do a backup of my data and clean flash as suggested by Captemo. I think this is the best option.
2. Do option 1 but do not flash gapss. I read in a Security thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/security/security-android-security-conscious-mind-t2835412 about going with custom rom + nogapps. But then how do one use the google services - especially google play?
3. Do what I have done so far: no factory reset et al, reflash Validus, reflash gapps, remove google account and re-signin. And then prevent automatic update to google services; how can this be done - preventing automatic update to google play services?
Thanks
I have the same systemui loop problem
Don't bother with "clean" flash, it won't help with Validus rom. I did exact steps as suggested by Captemo. But when I'm updating Google+ to version Aug 12, I'm immediately getting com.android.systemui error loop. It's not completely fatal, could be fixed by wiping cache, dalvik, and data in recovery, and flashing previous version of Google apps. But in that case you will lose all other installed apps of course. In Google Play options you can disable automatic update of applications, and just ignore updates (for me it's only Google+, for example YouTube update is ok).
I like Validus rom, it's quite good, but not compatible with Google+ app somehow.
UPDATE: in Validus 6.1 this com.android.systemui error loop is FIXED! I have all Google applications up to date now.
Used "MINI MODULAR PACKAGE" from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

I have a Note 2 (obviously), and I have rooted my phone the first day I got it and have never updated the phone since I purchased it. So, I am still on 4.1.2. My phone has been super laggy and I want to take the oppurtunity the when I reset my phone that I can take advatages of the new features that mobile phones have by upgrading all the way to 5.1.x.
So, I downloaded CM 12.1 by wilson3q with 5.1 system. I first tried the 5.0 version since the 5.1 looked too new, and did not have time to deal with the bugs. When I flashed the 5.0 version, I got errors of not being able to flash gapps for 5.0 and that I lost my root. I tried downloading the new TWRP to see if I can get a newer version that would work better, but no luck. I got an error saying that I lost my root privileges and did I want TWRP to fix it. I slid yes to fix, but no luck.
The same problem occurred when I tried with 5.1.
So, I ended up restoring my nandroid backup and I am back on 4.1.2 again with root working again.
I am thinking that I am probably supposed to 'step up' the updates, but not sure. Does anyone have a solution or a link to the solution that they can help with?
PS: I did not like the camera that came with the new mod. I do like the stock one. Are there flashes of cameras that I can use as well when I do end up upgrading?
Thank you in advance!!!

Try Phiz recovery, I've never had trouble with "[I605][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch". If I recall we had to start using that one when kit-kat was released (i reserve the right to recall poorly)
I have a link to download mirror here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60899023&postcount=146
from your new recovery, you should be able to install CM12.1 and 5.1 gaaps recommended in the Wilson3Q i605 thread. from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-verizon/development/rom-unofficial-build-i605-t3069506
FWIW, I am on the 20150803 build and still using the GApps Minimal Edition 2015-04-04 for Android 5.1 (91 MB) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-google-apps-minimal-edition-t2943330
with no issues to report.
You may also need to track down updated radios (to flash from CWM). I think you can find a link to the updated ND7 Modem/Baseband here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765021
somewhere in middle of first post
Good Luck!
PS you may want to flash superSU from recovery... get the zip from chainfire's xda thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
(I've been dirty flashing for so long I dont' remember if the rom came with SuperSU or superuser... as such I can't recall if I had to flash this zip or not, but I probably did if I had issues with root)
Note you may also need to enable root from the settings menu after enabling developer mode.
there should be a "root access" option (or somehting like that there)
PPS are you also remembering to wipe data & clear cache/dalvik?
I have found zoot's mega wipe useful...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983489
it is for the N7100/N7105, butI have used it on the i605 quite a bit. Initial test result reported here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44093932&postcount=117
that said zoot's script is probably overkill

I assume that you are giving steps in order, BUT I feel that I should flash the radio to 4.4.2 first, in which the link was broken. I have spent a couple hours trying to find another link, but I am afraid that I may be using an incorrect one. Do you have a good link for that, please?
Also, I have ready the newest Samsung 3.10 Odin downloaded and installed, as well as the USB driver installed and downloaded the ADB fastboot. If I remember correctly, I am supposed to move this onto C: and run it to access the device (Note 2). It has been since Android first came out since I have used the ADB though. So, I apologize for the ignorance. So, do I just make sure the adb is in the same directory and run Odin or did I not need ADB and just run Odin?
I also assume that I run the Philz touch after I have gotten to 4.4.2 rooted first. Am I correct by assuming that?

Yes, I have done a cache/dalvik wipe a few times (because I have tried reflashing to get it to work with no luck).
I have downloaded the .zip version of superSU as well, and gapps minimal 5.1 with wilson3q's 5.1 ROM. So, I am almost ready to go with the exception of the correct radio upgrade file.
Thank you so much for your help!!! Much appreciated!
PS Will my old WifiTether apk files still work with 5.1 or do I need to get a new one?
Thanks Again!
No need for Odin....

(Good read)
Just flash philz from twrp. Reboot recovery wipe/reset... then flash new ROM gaaps... Wipe/reset... Then reboot.
I can post the radio zip to my site later tonight. I believe you can flash that last, or later (from philz cwm, after getting on cm12.1)
Same as superSU. Check out ROM first. It comes with root that can be enabled in developer options. you can always reboot to recovery later and flash the zip.
PS. WiFi tether built into ROM "hotspot" (no VZW subscription required)
Pps try this for the nd7 radios

Sorry to bother you, but I still am getting errors with Failed root access for Titanium Backup Pro. I also cannot find Developer Options in the settings menu.
I have tried flashing the radio before and after wiping and installing the ROM then gapps then superSU. I get into superSU and it asks me for root access and I grant it, but Titanium Backup Pro still says that it has no root access.
Any ideas? Thank YOU!!

with SuperSU installed, you may need to just need to update binaries. open SuperSU and it should prompt you if necessary. the "normal" option should work (no need to flash from recovery)
for TiBu...
--within SuperSU settings you may need to disable (uncheck) "mount name separation".
--You may also have to enable unknown sources (under settings, security).
-- there might be something to enable for USB debugging as well (TIBU should prompt for it)
FWIW, you can restore user apps/data... but I would not attempt to restore any system data. Personally, I have found it best to get to know a fresh ROM for a while before trying to restore crap from an older ROM . there might be value in re-configuring apps manually and/or restoring them one at a time (after making sure the ROM is working properly) i.e. you won't need any of those aforementioned WiFi tether apps since it is built into the ROM now.
Instructions on enabling developer options in CM ROM, from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_developer_options
1- In the Settings app, select About Phone (or About Tablet).
2- Scroll down, and tap the Build number entry seven times. On the seventh tap, you will be notified that "You are now a developer."
3- Return back to the main Settings menu. Developer options and Performance entries should now be visible.

(that is likely how to enable superuser that is "baked" into the rom, given you already installed SuperSU it may only complicate matters)
You may be rooted and just having TiBu issues. If all else fails you can check with an app. A long time ago, I've used "Simple Root Checker" by SimoneDev to check root/busybox. It is still in the play store.
Good Luck!

Thank you! It ended up being my version of Titanium Backup. I downloaded a new version and it is good. As far as restoring is concerned, I do not even want the apps themselves restored from there, because there may be a new version and would like a fresh install of those apps. I just want my data restored. For example, I have a surveillance software that I would just like to restore the entries (IP's usernames and passwords). I would like my email settings to be there, so that I do not have to re setup my 7 email addresses. My Text/SMS messages and my alarms. So, I am not trying to do a full restore.
On another note, I am trying to get my calendars back into my phone with no luck. I cannot install google calendar and get my google calendars to populate into my task widget, and the ROM is not letting me set up my POP email addresses. Also, I see no ringtones, so I have no ringers to ring my phone nor tones for my alarm clock. I flashed gapps for 5.1 and I see nothing extra from the ROM. I thought gapps was google apps. Am I trying to do stuff differently than you? There seems to be a few problems in that manner that I am trying to work with.
I am thinking of downgrading to 5.0. Maybe the 5.1 is too new?
Again, THANK YOU for your help!

I wouldn't downgrade, nobody is actively working on 5.0.2 anymore.... that thread is basically dead. Also, it is likely less "stable"/mature than what you have installed now (that is currently being maintained). i.e. you have the ROM that I would stick with.
like I said I wouldn't restore any thing into system (apps or data)... you can do whatever you please. (but it could be causing you more issues than just biting the bullet & configuring manually) i.e. restoring accounts might result in unanticipated issues, you came from a much older version of android.
all I had to do was install google calendar from play store and then the CM12 calendar stuff all worked (I might have had to restart and/or install the google calendar prior to setting up primary gmail). you might need to remove all your accounts and load them again (a factory reset might be faster though.)
also you might have to update google services and the play store before certain things "play nice".
I know you don't want to hear this but...
from here on out i'll likely point to all your issues being based on restoring system data. (based on my limited knowledge and personal experience). FWIW, I'd try to reconfigure/setup everything manually and you will likely have much better results.

I figured that, and feared that and the same time. So, what am I flashing onto the phone with gapps then? Also, one of the reasons I was wanting to go back was because there are a few apps that are not 'compatible' with this system. Meanwhile, I am going to wipe and reset again, and do what you suggested and just reconfigure.
Thanks again!

GAaps are the google apps... good read:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps
(hopefully I am not out of line for posting a link to that wiki)
many ROMS like CM don't' include gaaps due to licencing/legal issues. which is why the AOSP roms devs often have you flash the GAAPS package separately (also you can pick your package for your fact pattern... full gaaps/minimal gaaps/etc.).
Also the gaaps zip files you flash from recovery install the files into system. a lot of folks like the minimal editions of GAaps because it doesn't force all the apps into system. instead it just gets you up and running with the play store and a few essentials... that lets the user install all the other google apps as user apps, from the play store.
basically taking the "debloat" mentality as far as you can... keep stuff out of system and let the user decide what to install.
