[Q] X10a (Rogers) stuck in FreeX10 Beta3 Froyo 2.2.1 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I've followed the instructions to install Froyo on my Rogers X10a and everything went really well, but due to the fact that I don't have WiFi, any cellular radio (can't even search networks) and lots of times where it will crash, I am looking to revert my phone back to the Rogers 2.1 firmware, however I haven't been able to do so.
I have followed a tutorial (can't post links, search Google for "rebranding rogers xperia x10" and select 2nd link). But I am still unable to do it! I'm stuck at step 10, where it mentions the Java error. I have installed only 32-bits versions of JDK and JRE on my 64-bits Windows 7 Ultimate laptop and I can't get past this point. I have verified my Device ID on my desktop computer (only computer I have used with PC Companion).
I am really stuck as I need my phone really bad (only phone I have, can't find my BlackBerry Bold...).
I have no idea what else I should try to do at this point and I'm being kinda desperate. I'm new into the flashing thing, but was aware of the risks... probably just didn't know it could be that bad...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

3 UK root?

Hey Xda-developers. Just quickly, I found this Forum from a few links on other websites (gizmodo, engadget) and some youtube videos of your awesome custom ROMs.
I for my HTC Hero in March, and I should be upgrading around christmas 2011. That's a while, and Android grows fast..much much faster than HTC update my device, so I'm thinking a custom ROM is what I really want.
I've done my research, but honestly I'm pretty much a noob here. I know I need to root the phone, but I've been unable to find any specific instructions for 3 UK, and as far as I can tell all the different carriers use different instructions (a different ROM to downgrade to?), so I don't want to use the wrong ones.

Phone Spec
Okay, this is a standard HTC Hero on a 24 month contract carried by 3 UK.
There has been no rooting, no major changes. I have done no more than officially supported. A complete from scratch root would be required.
Currently running 1.5.
UK, 3 Mobile, GSM.
No hardware replacements and no known issues with the phone.

I think that's about all, is somebody here able to point me to the right place for a 3 mobile root?
Thanks in Advance,
Callum.
I'm also on 3uk and i rooted my phone using the following guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html
Hope this helps.
Thankyou very much for your help! I'll be giving that guide a go later.
No probably m8, SenseHERO is a good custom ROM.
Any trouble just post up and ill try and help you out.
Hmm, if I could ask you to take a look at a post, that'd be really helpful. No worries if you don't have a clue though.

Sorry that link is so bad, but they won't let me post a proper one.
That thread was alternative 2 for the 3uk guide you gave me (goldcard section). I'm not sure whether you'll be able to help me, but if you could take a look that'd be massively helpful.
Cheers,
Callum.
I posted a reply to more or less the same problem earlier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6701261&postcount=268
Let me know how you get on.
Thankyou very much for your reply, but I have already done all of this. I've successfully performed a goldcard on my SD and I'm really close to getting a working custom ROM, but it's dying somewhere there. I have already installed the x64 drivers though.
HTC Sync works perfectly, picking up the phone and synchronizing on demand.
Thanks,
Callum.
What guide are you using, i used this was one to create a goldcard and downgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5855697&postcount=1
The only problem i had was syncing after installing the latest version. I fixed it by downloading a driver manager and updated the drivers for it.
I take it it lets you mount the SD card on your computer?
One thing that might be worth a try is to download the ROM again, it might be corrupt, a shot in the dark but worth a go.
That's the guide I ended up at, after following a link within the guide you provided above.
It does indeed allow me to mount the SD card, everything syncs perfectly. I'll give re-downloading the ROM a go, though. There was two available, so I'll try the other download.
Hmm, I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing is working on this Windows 7 machine. My brother's XP machine is broken, and my dad's away with the XP notebook.
Is there any way that anybody knows of to run XP as a virtual machine temporarily?
Here's a link for a virtual box:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/VirtualBox
I dont know how to run it though.
Someone had a similar problem on win7 yesterday and sorted it by getting a new gold card. Might be worth a try?
Aha, I re-downloaded goldcard, and switched the driver to My HTC once with it normally plugged in, then with bootloader open. And it downgraded!
I've got the Scenehero on the SD card now, I'm just unable to launch the custom recovery screen. It will start normally by hitting power, but while the home button is also held it just loops the first hero screen. Is there any way past that, because I need to perform a wipe and flash scenehero.
Thanks so much for your help so far, you've been amazing!
If your all set up properley you should be able to connect your phone via usb to the PC,
then open a command window and type>"adb shell devices"
your phone should show in the window something like HTLK12345
now type> "adb shell reboot recovery"
this should boot your phone into recovery mode.
Hope this helps.
Thankyou very much for your help, I solved the problem by re-installing my recovery. Not sure what went wrong but it worked after that. All looks good now!
good stuff m8, glad your sorted.
what rom are you running?
I'm currently using the latest version of Sensehero. Really pleased with it so far.
I'm on branch 3, waiting for branch 5, should be here soon hopefully.
If you have'nt already m8 check out the site:

[SOLVED] Downgrading U20a 2.1 to 1.6

I'm looking to downgrade my Xperia mini pro (U20a) from 2.1 to 1.6 because I've exhausted all options in rooting.
Firmware: 2.1.
Kernel: 2.6.29
Build: 2.0.1.A.0.47
First I tried rooting using the exploid method but failed when I had to run rootshell (even with admin I don't have permission). Many others were experiencing problems at this point and I believe it has to do with the newer builds being incompatible with this method.
Second, I tried rooting using the SuperOne Click method but failed during the "Starting ADB Server/Waiting for Devices" part. The program crashes on any instance of Windows and I attempted the proposed solutions involving turning on/off debugging or unplugging USB.
Third, I was going to attempt the z4root method but I can't even side load it because that requires a file manager and I can't download anything from the Android market. I researched this problem and it seems that very many Android users are plagued by this problem. Tried everything to resolve it but nothing works. For example, I attempt to download AndExplorer but a few seconds later in the notifications menu it says "AndExplorer Download was unsucessful, please try again."
I'm under the impression that if I downgrade to 1.6, root, and then update to 2.1 Generic 2.0.2.A.0.24 [root preinstalled] things will be alright. However, I'm having a difficult time starting the process.

As well as this thread providing the ROMs:

However, all those pertain to X10a/i. Any insight to this process involving U20a/i would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Hello Major(SWE)! (Are you swedish)?
You may have the mounting bug? Connect the phone and choose charge battery first and then pull down the notification window and pick the USB button to mount the device.
Or you may need to install SEUS or PC companion again, in order for the USB-drivers to work.
Second - You can try to clear the cache and unistall the market update - try this first in order to get hold of z4root or some file managers.
Then I wonder why you read about X10? When the correct link for Bin4arys flashtool and Xperia Mini Pro for flashing a Nordic 2.1 ROM is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455
And here is the list for build.prop: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743800
Ps. why you have a u20a if you live in Sweden?
I'm going to see if it may be a usb driver or mounting issue that's preventing root. I've tried caching, uninstalling the market update, and factory reset to get the Market app to download file managers so I can side load but like so many others with that problem it didn't work. I'll research this further because if it becomes functional again I can use z4root, which seems to work for most.
Apparently the root issues with recent updates has been solved according to a post over at Xperia blog.
If all these options fail I'll turn to flashing. Much appreciated!
P.s. Jag är svensk fast har bot i USA i åtta år nu..farsan jobbar för Ericsson också lol!

[Q] Impossible to root Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500)

Hello! I'm new here and I searched for a similar thread but I didn't find one so don't sweat me with the search posts and read the whole post before commenting...
So, I tried to root Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500) which runs Android 2.2 and it just looks impossible. Programs I tried to use are Super One Click, z4root and Universal Androot.
Problem with SOC is that it stops responding after 2 messages appear:
Killing ADB Server...
Starting ADB Server... daemon not running. Starting it on port 5
After this it stops working... (Have the drivers for the phone and ADB stuff installed!)
The problem with z4root is that after "Acquiring root shell" my phone vibrates and just kicks me out from the program with no messages/warnings.
Universal Androot (1.6.2 b5) Says it's unable to root and that's it.
It seems that this phone has some kind of protection because I saw many other people unlocking this phone with all 3 programs I mentioned.
I got this phone from VIP SRB and I heard that if you buy a phone with contract like I did, they will somehow lock it to make it almost impossible to root.(I guess it's not impossible, that's why I'm asking you guys)
So my question is how to crack that protection that this phone has (If it has one) and how do I finally root it.
Same problem for me....
I have the same problem and posted a thread a couple of days ago.
I had already rooted my i5500, but I had a problem with titanium backup that I installed on it...it ended up stuck in the loop screen when I pulled the battery on it. I couldn't get the phone to do a factory restore by pressing whichever buttons I needed to, so I had to flash another rom, using Odin (latest one, i think...the phonebase is WJP4) to it and use backup to restore apps and setting etc..
I now can't root it using the same methods you have and get the same error messages. Although with Super One Click it gets to stage 3 of rooting and then it's as though I have pulled the USB cable out, so it can't finish the root
I am going to flash an older rom to it and see if that has any effect...I want to eventually put a custom rom on it!!!
this worked for me...
After my last post here I tried reflashing a stock rom to my i5500 to see if that was the problem and it didn't, still had the same issues as you did.
My success came when I used Unlock Root 2.2. You have to install it on your computer and enable USB debugging on your phone (as with SuperOne Click) but it worked without errors!
I hope this method works for you (I think it would have worked without me reflashing my phone), let me know if it works
Worked OK!

[Q] Updating X10a from 1.6 original Android

I recently got a Xperia X10a, and I noticed that it has the android 1.6 on it. I know that the newest version of Android is 4.2 so I started searching the internet for an update to android 4.0.4 at least. I discovered that the android 4 for the X10 isn't completed so I went to android 2.3 and found the site freexperia, there you can download the CM7 for X10. I'm a noob, I don't know what a kernel is and what I can cause to the phone by changing it so I need help, because every tutorial explains how to update from 2.1/2.3 to 2.3.3 or something like that. I also tried to update the phone throug SE Pc companion and update service, but I can't pass through the step of pressing back and plugging the phone in again, I do what is said to do but nothing happens and the phone just turns back on. Also i saw something about the baseband and changing it to most recent one, but I don't know how to do it, and I discovered that you can put multitoutch in the X10. How can I update from android 1.6 to 2.3? I need to update the baseband? If yes how and to what version(i'm from brazil, and I don't know if this change from country to country) What are the main differences between CM7 and the official SE 2.3 updates? Through these updates the multitouch will be automatically installed in my device? I also would like to install clock work mod on my device, how can I do that?
PS.: I read the thread about using the flashtool to do many thing to my device, and the tutorial was very clear, so if I can do what I want using tha tutorial as a foundation the process will be much more easy.
Well, I've been trying to update for a while now and I think I discovered the problem. As I need at least the Android 2.1 to start doing what I want with my phone I have to update via PC companion, but when I reach the end of the preparing step I get an error on my PC, after I turning off the device I plug it in holding down the back key and a pop up apears saying that the device had a malfunctionig and is not conect so I get stuck in this step, as the device is not recognized. Can anyone help me?
What i did with mine is rooted the phone while on 1.6 then changed the region code. After connecting via pc comp i got the update to 2.3.

Can't get Xperia Play to go from 2.3.3-4.0.4 (Bricked)

Hi everyone,
I have a R800at at&t Xperia play phone that is on Gingerbread 2.3.3 stock, and I can't seem to get it rooted, and on icecream or jellybean. I thought I have to get rooted, install clockwork mod, and then another step to upgrade, but I keep getting errors.
I tried to do it on windows 10, and the device wouldnt even connect, so I went to my laptop with win 7, and this is what I did:
- downloaded a firmware, superclick, and flashtool.
- set my mounting to mass media, allowed unknown and usb degubbing,
- installed drivers, and tried to flash with flash tool.
I got so many errors, and the phone is basically looping on the "rethink possible" screen.
Can anyone help me out exactly what I need to do to go from gingerbread to icecream or jellybean? I might have done the exact steps wrong. Thanks in advance.
