[Q] Impossible to root Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I'm new here and I searched for a similar thread but I didn't find one so don't sweat me with the search posts and read the whole post before commenting...
So, I tried to root Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500) which runs Android 2.2 and it just looks impossible. Programs I tried to use are Super One Click, z4root and Universal Androot.
Problem with SOC is that it stops responding after 2 messages appear:
Killing ADB Server...
Starting ADB Server... daemon not running. Starting it on port 5
After this it stops working... (Have the drivers for the phone and ADB stuff installed!)
The problem with z4root is that after "Acquiring root shell" my phone vibrates and just kicks me out from the program with no messages/warnings.
Universal Androot (1.6.2 b5) Says it's unable to root and that's it.
It seems that this phone has some kind of protection because I saw many other people unlocking this phone with all 3 programs I mentioned.
I got this phone from VIP SRB and I heard that if you buy a phone with contract like I did, they will somehow lock it to make it almost impossible to root.(I guess it's not impossible, that's why I'm asking you guys)
So my question is how to crack that protection that this phone has (If it has one) and how do I finally root it.

Same problem for me....
I have the same problem and posted a thread a couple of days ago.
I had already rooted my i5500, but I had a problem with titanium backup that I installed on it...it ended up stuck in the loop screen when I pulled the battery on it. I couldn't get the phone to do a factory restore by pressing whichever buttons I needed to, so I had to flash another rom, using Odin (latest one, i think...the phonebase is WJP4) to it and use backup to restore apps and setting etc..
I now can't root it using the same methods you have and get the same error messages. Although with Super One Click it gets to stage 3 of rooting and then it's as though I have pulled the USB cable out, so it can't finish the root
I am going to flash an older rom to it and see if that has any effect...I want to eventually put a custom rom on it!!!

this worked for me...
After my last post here I tried reflashing a stock rom to my i5500 to see if that was the problem and it didn't, still had the same issues as you did.
My success came when I used Unlock Root 2.2. You have to install it on your computer and enable USB debugging on your phone (as with SuperOne Click) but it worked without errors!
I hope this method works for you (I think it would have worked without me reflashing my phone), let me know if it works

Worked OK!

[Q] Rooting android 4.04 allview P5

Hello, i just recently purchased an Allview P5 smartphone, it's really cost efficient but recently i started getting some problems because the phone is not rooted and i was wondering how to root the android 4.04. i tried the superoneclick 2.3.3 and installed adb and something from java, bu when i rung the program superoneclick the program just freezes and it's not responding. any suggestions or guides that i should follow?
best regards

Try root for HaiPai I9220. For me it works.
Having the same problem here, Superoneclick freezes on step 7 iirc.
HaiPai didn't work for me either
So that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923764
There you will find this: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?othd1gf76pa97zg
It is 100% functional, but need more knowledge and skill.
Ok, I came a lot further this time, but still stuck.
As soon as I let Cygwin `patch` the recovery.img, it does the patching and stuff, but it doesn´t create a new recovery.img for some reason..
If you check page 13 of that PDF manual: I get all the same messages in Cygwin, except for that "Repacking" bit.
Any Idea why it isn't repacking?
Losing my nerves a bit because of Cygwin, what a horrible program to get to work properly. Installation went on beyond 100%, till about 2000% and then just started to count further in negatives >____<
You must have installed 7-zip archive program.
SuperOneClick should work for this device. You may try this:
1) unmount the sd-card, turn ON usb-debugging
2) turn OFF usb-debugging
3) connect device to PC
4) click "Root"
5) when "Waiting for Device" appear turn ON usb-debugging
6) when "Starting ADB Server..." turn OFF usb-debugging
7) then turn it back ON
8) and back OFF
9) repeat this while "Waiting for Device" appears again.
@Stovka: I have 7zip installed, the unpacking/extracting of the recovery.img goes fine in Cygwin, but for some reason it just skips the repack part.
@AndreyETO: As soon as I disable debugging mode, superoneclick stops the procedure, so I didn't get far with that
So sorry, I don't really know what is the problem...
It was all ok for me - the one problem was that I had not installed 7-zip, but after installing it worked exactly according to instructions.
If it were successful: after recording recovery.img to the phone is first necessary to go into CWM mode (no run phone) and install the root file attached. End CWM recovery mode is classically done by clicking on "reboot system now", but after the first time there appears one more option (just I don't know what name), which must be confirmed! Otherwise, when you restart the phone again, then will be loaded the original file and the recovery process must be repeated - upload modified recovery.img and then root file via CWM.
Found another way to root, and it worked
I used the method in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 )I used the current newest version:V15)
The first time it didn't work, but after rebooting the phone and trying again it was succesfull
Anyway, thank you guys for trying to help.

Same experience on Allview P6 Stony (P6_0201_V1179 software build). This method works for me - similarly I had to run the script (and the reboot cycle) 2x before it had an effect.
As pointers for others, before you try this method you need to make sure you have ADB drivers installed. Trying to install stock google drivers didn't work at all for me, what worked for me was installing latest PdaNet drivers (pdanetZ350.exe) from here: junefabrics.com/android/download.php *
Don't forget to install OTA Rootkeeper app afterwards and run it once - hopefully saves you the hassle of rooting again if the P6 should receive an incremental update.
Enjoy, thanks Flapperbol!
(*= sorry Im not allowed to post links)
Version 18 also works
Just to let you guys know that version 18 of Root_with_restore works. I just the ADB drivers from the PDAnet install (which I cancelled after the drivers were installed) and the phone is now rooted!
Does anybody know how to get rid of those ugly allview icons? I hate those things.

I can help you get rooted. First you will need to install drivers on your PC so your device can communicate with the root program. Then try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43163569&postcount=7
If that dont work, let me know. You can always use MTK Droid Tools and SP flash tool to pull your stock recovery and port it into a custom recovery that will allow you to flash a simple root.zip
Hope this helps!

Try using this, it installs drivers for many different phones, it may not be the actual manufacturers drivers for your specific device but it will help get your phone talking to your PC:
http://www.snappea.com/
Also - Make sure you are going into settings and turning USB debugging on. You can usually find this under Settings > Developer Options.

Go here and download MTK Droid Tools from first post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160490&styleid=18
Run the program and connect your phone to PC, this tool will tell you lots of info about your phone but the main function is to possibly back up your stock firmware (This is good to have if you plan on trying to flash anything to the phone, this way you will have your stock files to fall back on in case something you flash to the phone does not work.) Once you have MTK Droid Tools running and phone connected, what does it say next to Hardware on the phone info tab please?
I am not sure off top of my head about updating to a higher version of Android but this back up step is REALLY important. It is hard if not impossible to find stock firmware floating around on the net for these chinese clone devices. IF you have stock files backed up you can flash almost anything you want knowing you have a way to restore your phone to working order. IF you look around here on XDA you will see tons of posts by people looking for the stock firmware for their clone phone after soft bricking it playing around. Sadly there is not much help for them unless they find someone with the EXACT same phone and are willing to share their back up (if the next person made one theirselves that is!)

needless to say i tried reconnecting and it didn't change i downloaded the adb drivers from the link under the mtk link but have no idea what to do with them,
appologies for my ignorance in all of this, but like i said in my first post, i have no idea what i'm doing with all this, thanks

[Q] Coolpad Arise, emphasis on ROOT

I bought a Coolpad Arise (edit: Model 5560S) today at Kroger for $10 (and got 500 fuel points doing so). This phone blew me away. The proc, and gpu are better than I expected, it runs 4.4.2, and it has an SD card slot. Now to the issue:
I've been trying to get root on the device but haven't had any luck. Towel(with multiple modstrings) and Kingo didn't do anything. I'm ready to take the next step. I'm an Android developer and feel like I should help get root on this phone. I've tried to emulate the asec venerabilities to no avail. Is anyone else interested in rooting the arise? I'm not sure where to go from here but would like to have root since the stock os seams to be 99% aosp.
Pointers would also be greatly appreciated.
I'm no Dev but would love root as well. Bought 2 last night for stocking suffers for my kids. As you said you can't beat this for 10 bucks. And BTW I got 1000 points which surprised me figured I'd only get 500 for the initial, and considering I usually fill up with 20 plus gallons this phone literally was free with the discount I'll get! Thinking of going to get a third now!
Root would be great
There must be a LOT of these out there with the recent sale(s) on this model.
I'm impatiently waiting for this thread to get some action. I've tried everything. Even some Chinese program called permroot.apk that apparently works with coolpads, but I had no idea what I was doing since I can't read Chinese.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app
Do you have the drivers yet? Couldn't you just unlock the bootloader and load TWRP and an AOKP image that's rooted already?
Just got the arise to play around with. Still can't root device.

I still haven't been able to get root.. I went out and bought another one thinking that the system update might have locked something down (still couldn't root). Since I have second one, I'm going to try some more invasive options.
CoolPad Arise Needs Root Quick
I have recently recieved the coolpad arise and really want to figure out a way to root it. So thats why i have joined this forum thread. XD
Found this by accident, maybe it'll help get root... if you remove the coolpad battery, and plug in a usb data cable from your computer to the phone, the coolpad screen lights up and says "fastboot mode". I tried some of the usual fastboot commands, ie, oem unlock, but nothing happened, it says "waiting for device".
I bought two more of these the other day (today might be the last day for the sale so stock up).

Unroot?
I rooted my coolpad 5560s and now the notifications and screenlock aren't working so i was wondering if there is a way you could unroot.:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Successful root
 I successfully rooted my coolpad arise after multiple attempts with different software. iRoot, Towelroot, vRoot, OneClickRoot, Chainfire's Root App, and Kingoroot all failed.
Someone made a root toolkit for the coolpad arise, but it failed.
I tried exploit apps to try to get root privs. They didn't work.
I then used Root Genius on a computer and successfully got root.
Do not take any updates before or after you root, because you might not be able to root.
To root enable adb on the phone by going to settings > About Device > and tap build number several times until you get confirmation that you're a dev.
Run root genius, and plug in the phone. Click the root button. If phone prompts to allow the pc access, allow it. It will root the device. You must have a good oem cable and good usb port when rooting. If root fails try again on a different pc or with a different cable. Also while rooting you need internet.
I would recommend deleting the touchpal keyboard and freezing log2file and system updates.

Will this Root Genius work with Scratch Wireless ROM? After I root, can I make a ROM dump and backup the Scratch Wireless ROM?
Oh Crap! Now I'm sort of bricked!
I was starting to get some instability (probably due to many device tweaks and the device being almost full, not from Root Genius) on my phone and I went to flash it back to stock for a re-root. This time I gave the root package another try (it didn't work for me the first time perhaps because of maybe some .net framework issues). This time it worked after powering on I followed the instructions and I went through and checked if every app worked. The browser and camera default apps did not work at all. They would open and force close. So, I decided to retry to root toolkit and my device never got pass the "Powered By Android" screen and it wouldn't boot into stock recovery. So I used the Coolpad Official Flash Tools (YGDP) and flash it back to stock. The device didn't work either. I would get the same screen and I was unable to boot into stock recovery.
Please help as I use this device as my everyday device, app dev device, and at my college classes. It is also my primary source for accessing the internet (I use the hotspot often).
Phew, got it fixed by flashing the original stock rom with the company tools.

How to unlock Alcatel Ideal 4060A Bootloader?

Hi,
I'm brand new to this forum and my name is Jessy, and it's my pleasure to be here!
I recently bought this AT&T GoPhone (for around $29) at Walmart, and I was following this guide to allow me to use my SD Card as an internal memory storage unit for my phone, but I found out that I need to unlock the Bootloader, install TWRP, SuperSU and Link2SD apps to the SD card and my phone. Since this smart phone is similar to the Idol 3, could I use this method to unlock the Bootloader for my phone or do I have to try a different approach?
I appreciate your time and I look forward to contribute further to these forums! Thanks again!
-Jessy
I picked one up on Black Friday, and decided to root it. I was only able to install an older version of SuperSU though (v2.46). First I had to install the PC version of KingRoot (It's in Chinese I believe, but middle button is always "next" or "yes"), root the phone, and then replace KingRoot with SuperSU. Took me a few tries.
This is the guide I used from the forum:
SuperSU Me_6.4.apk
KingRootSetup v3.2.0.1129.exe
1. install kingrootsetup on pc(must have internet connection to work)
2. connect ur phone with ADB enabled from developers option
3. root ur phone by following on screen instructions...
4. after rooting, install supersume on phone
5.open the app, click on big blue button and wait...
done,replaced kingroot with supersu..

My Alcatel Ideal 4060A froze a few times during the removal of KingRoot, but all I did was: turn off the phone, remove the battery, and finish the procedure once the phone was on. The phone was only $10 on Black Friday, so you could say it was only an experiment on my part. Unless it's a really good phone, where you can go to the manufacture's website and download the original firmware and install it through your PC, there's not much you can do to unbrick a cheap phone that is practically unknown.

Thank you Mario for your help! I'm having a little trouble having my phone being recognized by Kingroot, although I have ADB enabled from the developers option, it seems not to pickup my phone still. I'm still trying though and I'll let you know if I get it to work properly, and perhaps document my mistake so others following this post who happen to have the same problem could know what to do.

*UPDATE*
Just wanted to update that I found out what was my mistake, which is a really simple and basic mistake, I apologize!
What I did was that after I had enabled ADB through my phone, it was already connected to my PC right after I had downloaded Kingroot, so my solution here was simple. I turned off my phone first, then I turned it back on while still connected with Kingroot still running then Kingroot finally read my phone and it rooted it as you outlined. Thanks again for your help, it is too valuable for me!
Here's the guide that I'm following so that I could install more apps to the phone through my 64 GB SD card if you guys were interested, to make the phone more useful, and I also installed my obama phone SIM card on it as well (from lifeline wireless, because hey why not? )

Here's the guide that I'm following so that I could install more apps to the phone through my 64 GB SD card if you guys were interested, to make the phone more useful, and I also installed my obama phone SIM card on it as well (from lifeline wireless, because hey why not? )
Here's the link to add more internal memory to this phone

No problem. I'm glad you got the phone rooted. I originally picked up the phone to use as an MP3 player, so I removed most of the unnecessary stock apps with "System app remover (ROOT)", but now that I see how good the phone is (at that price), I plan to use it as a backup phone. It even has a notification LED light for unopened messages LOL; anyway, good luck.
My Alcatel bricked too using this method stuck at boot logo and does nothing... Any fix?
Thanks for writing rooting method for Alcatel 4060a Ideal Pop445. Need some help

I've been an iPhone user for many years, I'm almost new to android. I have unlocked the bootloader from the hidden developers options in the settings app. I haven't found any thing useful to root my new Alcatel Ideal 4060a (Pop 445) (at&t unlocked). There are tons of bloatwares and many apps that I can't transfer to sd card. I hope you two can help me out here as I don't want to brick my device.
Question 1: Do jessy did something wrong(regarding your given steps to root) that makes her device rooted OR she has just been lucky? Because someone just posted that he/she has bricked his/her device.
Should I go ahead and try my luck with your method you there would be some advice you would like to give?
Question 2: If I would be able to root this device, would I be able to install Android 6.0 Marshmellow?
Don't root this yet

I have rooted with Kingroot 5; latest windows version on their website. Now I'm working on replacing it with Supersu or Supersu-me.
I think there always be some solution as far as you are seeing something on your phone's screen.
Just a note from another user with an Alcatel Ideal 4060a... (got for $10 from Best Buy on Black Friday)
Don't try using King-O-Root, then proceed to install Super SU from Google Play. It works that first launch, but on rebooting...
It's permanently bricked. And yes, I tried everything, including adb, recovery (doesn't have an option to flash a rom), from-pc flashing (wouldn't connect/wasn't recognized by adb or the other tools), fastboot (wouldn't launch), etc.
I don't know about the alternate Kingroot app, though. That probably works as some people have said it does for this model.
I was stupid and assumed King-O-Root would work as well, since it seems pretty generic and worked for another phone. I've learned my lesson and will now only follow guides for the specific phone model I have.
Why am I even writing this if it's a different rooting app? Cause I spent 6 hours just to end up killing one of my phones, and this is my best attempt at feeling like there was some worth to the waste. (the chance of preventing someone else the misfortunate, and just ranting)
Anyway, I'm going to bed. (So annoying because I only barely was brash enough to go ahead without a phone-specific guide--was on the fence, but landed on the unfortunate side) Argh! Argh! Argh!

Any solution for this? I want to replace King-O-Root with Super SU.
None that I know of.
I have another Android phone that I was also trying to get root on, and that one gets it temporarily using King-O-Root as well, but I'm too paranoid to try to make it permanent on that second one. Losing both my Android phones would be too painful.
If anything, I guess try the KingRoot program, from the pc, and then use the "SuperSU Me" app, as the person on the first page of this thread described. That way worked for at least one person apparently. (though the poster just after said it bricked theirs, so beware)
By the way, is your root from King-O-Root temporary (till restart) or permanent? I installed Super SU during the same launch I used King-O-Root, so I never got to see whether King-O-Root itself would have worked as a permanent (though non-ideal) solution. (I know that on my other Android phone it's temporary)
King-O-Root = Bricked Phone
KingRoot5 = Root Successful + it is possible to replace with SuperSU

Recovery Retrieved!
I was able to pull the recovery from this phone. Can someone make TWRP for this device using the stock recovery?
Here is the actual recovery image file that I pulled:
(Forgot my old XDA password, had to make another account. Can't post links)

Did you manage to unlock the bootloader? If not then you cant flash anything and building twrp would be useless.

I pulled the boot file. Could someone maybe look at that? I cannot boot to the bootloader.
I could try to flash_image twrp to the recovery and try that.
I got this phone on black friday, shortly after I got root with kingroot 5 pc and it was all great, however I got greedy and replaced kingoroot with supersu :silly:. First reboot and it goes into boot loop. Now its been sitting in a drawer. I think that purify deleted some app it looks at boot.
It looks like the simplest way to get a restore is 'IF' TCL/Alcatel does an update, someone intercepts the signed zip file, then that zip file could be distributed and used with the stock restore.
Hopeful everyone here can work a better solution... thanks for all your hard work everyone.
yes u r right
many time happen with me, Happen with me on asus KA10, But i got fastboot update img lucky. hope that u will get Fast boot image some day or we may able to get recovery for this device . in that case your your phone may start working

the core question "How to unlock Alcatel Ideal 4060A (walmart) Bootloader?" still unanswered. Kindly help.
My phone is rooted, but not able to unlock bootloader so far ...

From bricked to custom ROM in 2019 (GUIDE)

Here you go:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AshkuG2cY1T0xPZArSsy6iO1e_UnPw
This is a zip file with all the tools and files you need and instructions on how to use them.
What it covers:
Restoring bricked device (as long as download mode still works)
Unlocking bootloader (firmware dependent)
Rooting (any firmware)
Installing a custom recovery (any firmware)
Installing a custom ROM (any firmware)
I made this because all the guides for this phone were seemingly outdated, and some required tools and files were incredibly hard to find. Didn't want anyone else going through the pain I went through to break this phone open.
Thank you so much for uploading this. The charging port on my Nexus died and I have to use my old Note 2 as a backup, but I forget how this old piece of junk works. This should be very helpful.
I rooted and flashed twrp to boot to a triangle saying system software not authorized. Tried 3 firmwares and wont boot correctly. I got error about firmware update failed use kies... Kies won't do anything and kies 3 says unsupported device. On the 3rd firmware (root66 rooted stock ) firmware file I now am back to the original triangle system software not authorized by Verizon ..
How do I fix this?!?

Did you read my guide? You can't flash TWRP unless you successfully unlocked your bootloader with Casual, otherwise you are limited to SafeStrap. Also you can't restore with Kies, you have to use Odin and the files I've included to restore.

Nice to see people still looking for something like this, so my guide wasn't for nothing!
I was geeked to see this!! but then i got "This item might not exist or is no longer available"
I take it back.. i let it sit on the "failed" page for like 2 min, and randomly it popped up with a download!
Well the auto bootloader didn't work, so now i'm at the root section. However i'm getting an error where ADB isn't detecting my phone. USB debug is on, and i'm definitely in media mode and not installer. The phone shows up in windows and looks good, but adb doesnt detect. I opened command prompt and ran adb /? and found adb devices -l, and it reports "list of devices" and theres nothing in the list. I can't imagine why it's not seeing it. I tried turning on and off debug mode, switching from camera mode to media, changing usb ports. still nothing comes up, but windows sees it fine. grrrr
*edit, well since we can't delete posts i'll leave this here, because i have to. But what i did was re-open the "no you verizon" and it showed DISCONNECTED also. I changed usb ports like 3 times, turned usb debug on and off, changed from installer mode, to camera, to media mode, restarted the phone and the computer multiple times.. and then it just all of a sudden was detected again. So i went with it and it seems to have worked.
-it took 3 times to actually work, you noted it may take multiples, and it sure did. I ran it through the command prompt so i could read the text, and it took 5 times longer and reported much more stuff when it actually worked.
-final edit: if you can't unlock your bootloader, you're still stuck with ditto or alliance from 2014, and lots of apps won't update on android that old. So if you thought this guide was some holy grail, it is not. But still useful if you need the assist, so thanks to the author.
Hi, total noob here, I just bought Verizon note 2 at a yard sale but there is a pin I don't know. When I went to do a factory reset it booted into TWRP, so I am assuming is rooted. Do I need to be able to get into the phone to use your tools? I know nothing about TWRP. I would like to install a newer Android version and unlock it so I can use TMobile. Thanks
Something wrong...
when i try to load this file from the packages folder i get an error message:
"md5 error! Binary is invalid"
none of the other three works for me. they all come back ailed.
any suggestions?
awesome! thanks for posting this, just found my old note 2 and want to get it up and running again for the kids.
Kudos!
Used this to get my Note 2 up and going again temporarily until the Pixel 4a release...
NOTE: I had strange issues with Odin on my modern X570 board (USB 3.2 Gen 2) where I did not receive any errors, yet the process would randomly seem to time out. Sometimes I'd get stuck at flashing boot.img, sometimes it would hang up at the start, once I got to flashing system.img and it seemed to hang....
Used an older PC circa 2013, no issues! Not the first time I've had issues with this newer motherboard and older USB flashing interfaces; had the same issue on my Note 8 (RIP) as well.
excited to try this.
I'm on some rooted 4.4.2 stock-looking rom. Recovery doesn't look custom.
Hoping to be able to install a working Oreo or Pie ROM
great post, bought a couple of these for almost nothing and am having fun playing with them. sadly they are both 4.4.2 but its great fun anyway.
