Hey everybody,
I'm currently rocking the 318 update with the performance mod. When I go to watch videos I've recorded, I'm given the option of using the "movies" video player or any of the 3rd party players I've downloaded.
Here's my question. I've previously been using Steve's froyo roms. In a couple of them he had the old 1.6 video player as an option to view movies/videos. Does anyone have the .apk file for this?
I would always use the old player because I wouldn't get the annoying "this file is audio only" statement over my videos that I've recorded.
And if there's a third party video player that would work I'm up for suggestions. I have rockplayer installed and it won't play videos recorded form my streak.
Thanks in advance!
I'm running streak droid v 1.6.1 and I've got the this file is audio only message over my video thats playing. I use handbrake to make videos mp 4 before I put them on the streak. If you or anyone else figures out how to make the message go away, please let me know.
Streak Droid v1.6.1 using xda app
problem was fixed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894743&highlight=file+audio
something to do with stagefright in build.prop being enabled
I switched to rock player and just skip conversion now. Also switched devices too. Now I just need away to download media files straight to my device so I don't get the file not supported message.
Edit
Nm, able to dl xvid straight to device

I am having problems viewing videos off of websites like ESPN or CBSSPORTS, I can get the sound fine but it says "no video signal". The video comes up fine on the iPhone 3g but not on my Aria. Talked with my AT&T rep and he said could be a problem with the media player and would get back to me when he found an answer. Anyone have any ideas where to look for an answer?
Thanks
Use skyfire as your browser, it lets you watch most flash video.

Getting the same results using the Skyfire browser. I'll get audio but no video. I've tried the Rockplayer media player and I get video but no sound. Any other ideas?
Hello Guys,
Just wanted to know if Dell Streak can play 1080p or 720p Videos or not?
I tried playing mp4/ avi files using Rock Player, they worked with lag, is there any work around?
Have you enabled the hardware acceleration in the build.prop?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I convert them to .mp4's to watch on my Streak.
The Streak is only 800x480 so theres no point trying to play a 1280x720 video.
A converted 720p .mkv file is soooo much better quality than its .avi counterpart.
I use the Touch HD Encoder, a very simple and effective program.
Can I ask what program u guys use to convert the video files?

i use Rock Player from Market to play video files; i try 720p and 1080p mkv movies with subtitles and works perfect 100%, like on computer with hd video card .
there is a great program in the forum called "Encoder" - I have used it to convert videos to mp4 for all my previous phones to play without any lag.
I use arc media player, not come across a file yet that it wont play, everything from avi, to mkv to mp4, in any definition. Great apparently and its free!
Sorry if this is OT:
I am having issues getting my DVDs converted to digital on my desktop. I was trying to use handbrake, but it always came out funny (jagged sound and large rainbow pixels across the screen). I assume this is some kind of copyright protection.
Right no I am desperate to convert my library to digital back ups that I can toss on and off my devices at will. Any insight on how to solve my problem would be great.
I used Handbrake without any probs - did you choose the best settings? I used Presets Normal, Video Codec Mpeg-4 & Picture Size Custom - I resized using Aspect Ratio.
I followed a couple guides online. I m not even talking about it getting to the phone, it won't even play on the desktop.
So far I ve used these settings:
720x480
264
mp4
EDIT: Just for clarity. Should I be using VLC since Handbrake does not decrypt? (I read this after a google search please inform me if I m wrong).
you can play 720p [email protected]
see this thread

I get as far as trying to backup the original codec module and keep getting a Permission denied message
Any help would be much appreciated

I am trying to find a video player that will work with most formats (AVI, etc)
I have sound until I launch vPlayer or Moboplayer and then the Gtab is silent until I power it off and back on again. Not sure why. Anyone else have this issue?

Not using your rom but I like Rockplayer.
Actually, it would be easier to convert your videos than find a player that will play everything. You can use this free Windows app (Free Video to Android Converter) http://dvdvideosoft.com/download/FreeVideoToAndroidConverter.exe. to convert nearly any type video file to .mp4 and it has a gTablet specific profile for conversion.
If you decide to try it, do the custom install & uncheck ask homepage & toolbar (unless you really want them).

Hi guys,
I used to get a popup menu to select which app to play video when streaming upnp, I no longer get this popup and it seems like a player has set itself as a default and this app will not play my mp4 files, I've gone though all of my apps and non are set as default.
I'm running Vegan-Tab RC1 Gingerbread. Everything else seems fine.
I installed CleanDefault but still no popup. Can anyone suggest a solution.
UPDATE: I installed ES File Explorer and got the pop-up back, however when I try and play using ES Video Player I'm getting "Sorry The application has stopped unexpectedly, Please try again" I know my server is working ok since I can stream to my phone with no problem, this is only happening on the GTab.
Installed NWS Player and still cannot play video, they are encoded h264, is there a downloadable codec for Android? Anyone?
SOLVED BubbleUPnP to locate the file and Rockplayer Lite together works!

What are you streaming with, what app were you using on your tab when it worked and what app is now trying to open the videos?

Hey appreciate everyone's help with all the gtab issues. I'm a newbie and also have the Vegan-Tab RC1 Gingerbread installed, but continue to have video playback issues from not only web content, but from usbdisk files as well. Case in point, watching mp4 of Jeff Beck from my usb attached to gtab and plays about 7 minutes then locks up and I have to power down the gtab and reboot. Getting pretty frustrated, but hope someone can direct me to someone who can help. I've read tons and nothing seems to be helping much. Thanks for your time.
ok folks, I'm still a big android noob, so forgive if this is not proper android terminology, but is there a way to install more codecs for the video player?
or do I just need a seperate video player app?
some vids are playing without sound (and actually won't play at all from the dlna app, but plays w/o sound from the gallery>dlna)
and another one plays, but "seek is not supported"

Built in codecs are limited by the Tegra2 (Specs: http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-2.html) However, you can install a different video player with software codecs that work pretty well with almost every format until you get to resolutions of around 720p, then you get skipping.
Download MoboPlayer. It'll automatically install the needed files for your phone. Real solid.

nice player, better than stock, but still some videos no video but audio, other ones no audio but video...
Check out rockplayer. There's a free version in the market
I have been using mxvideo player with arm7(something) codec. If u install mxvideo player and open it will auto detect the codec u need. Has been working very nice for me I also used QQplayer which was alright.
well, mobo player seems like the nicest interface, but rock player is the only one that consistently works
thanks for the recommendations guys
