Yes, I know there is already a post where people promise to reward devs for porting Froyo on X10. Unfortunately, the person who created it doesn't track how much money people pledged anymore (he stopped at $1000 and now we're close to $4000 in donations).
This post is an idea and statement on the situation and feelings of many (I would dare to say most) Xperia X10 users have.
In short: SE f...ed us and we, users can't do anything about it. The company is in the deep mess and can't decide if update for a few days before release. They just probably won't update X10 and that's it. We bought expensive hardware, we signed long contracts. For those living in countries where operators embrace Android it's only question of money to cancel your contracts and buy a new phone. For people living in some places there is really no hope because carriers don't carry/support anything else (Android is not really embraced by carriers outside of the US).
So, what's with $10.000?
Well, look at every single forum and all comments from people. The rage is enormous, people are really desperate.
At this point it's really obvious that anybody who ports stock Froyo on Xperia X10 can ask for any reward and people will donate the money. There is enough of us just on this forum to gather probably a round $10.000 or more. If you could port Froyo before SE releases 2.1 and show us prove of everything running fine I would guess it wouldn't take the community more than few days to hit $10.000 in donations.
We appreciate all effort by the devs who are working on it without thinking of the reward. Yet, devs are people too and should get paid for accomplishing what SE can't or is not willing to do.
Lastly, as we all lost all respect for the SE you will gain a respect and recognition among all of us that would live forever in hearts and minds of us, poor Xperia users.
Help by spreading it!
LOL @ $10.000?
i think its $10000
Depends what country you are in, most european countries use decimals instead of commas and vice versa.
eg 1,500.55 vs 1.500,55
Back on topic, £20 from me
So far its:
2066$
30 +20 £
50 €
We are far from 4000.It would be great but not yet.
it would be best to keep donating in the original thread.
I think that the only way money will help, is if we are able to get an open bootloader, and a way to flash it easily, without extra hardware - probably from a current/previous SE programmer, or someone similar.
Devs probably won't buy the phone (X10, x10 mini or pro) unless they like it.
Also an SE programmer is likely to be able to access all of the x10 bootloaders if they can get to at least one.
the approach is wrong dude ... for $10.000 we should be able to bribe some se coder in giving us the infos/software we need ... just a thought ...

Negotiations? What do you have in mind?
I'll definitely give away $50 bucks for the developer(s) that accomplish this! 2.2 on my xperia would be so wonderful!

Won't work, not in a way we could use dontions anyway. The bootloader is locked becuse of DRM and other legal reasons and I seriously doubt anyone with the stuff we need would risk breaking the NDA they had to sign to work on it. The lawsuit they'd be slapped with would be massive and even a hundred times what we're able to pledge wouldn't be able to sort that out.
Money is tracable, especially online donations. Something like a wikileaks submission could work, anonymously providing the docs but then who would get the cash?

The Mods may differ on this BUT I think a bit of latitude may be in order this time. I beg your indulgence.
I am no longer in active software development but I lived that life once. Straight development not integrating into the unknown as is being done here.
A deep appreciation is felt here for the efforts being expended by Indirect, Adam Outler, Albert Wertz, fattire, & others here. Bless you All!
Some may see an opportunity to score on these fine folk's work but it won't be through me.
I am sure much collaboration is going on behind the scene & pray it will continue. Differences will eventually be resolved and any pirates identified & dealt with forthwith.
If it is allowed to progress I intend this thread to be used to thank any DEV, Assistant or significant contributer as this effort progresses. If it gets out of hand then a MOD is welcome to kill it & I will apologize now for my naiveté.
Thanks for these words. I hope the devs realize that this is how we all feel.
We do need a thread like this every now and again so we can remove them how valuable their work is.
I recently received a Nook Tablet, which had been a christmas gift for a dear friend who, sadly, passed away very shortly after getting it.
The instructions that Indirect, Albert et al posted meant I could roll back from 1.4.1 , root the device, install Snowball and get the thing up and running in no time at all. Thanks to all their hard work, I now have a beautiful new Android tablet, which I can use freely and remember my friend as I do so.
Thank you, devs, very much indeed.
+1 Salaam, salaam.
yes,to all devs, thanks to your wonderful work
Pioneers tend to find too many arrows in their backs. I completely understand that situation. My hat goes off to these fine determined engineers and their efforts to improve the ecosystem of this forum and the hardware

I also worked in the IT industry for over 40 years, and I say many thanks for making the Nook Tablet better for what you have done and in the future too.
The devs are the only thing that makes these devices worth having! My sincerest thanks to each and every one of you!!! I hope one day to be smart enough to contribute myself, but for now I need you guys and gals!

I always dislike when you type a long glowing response thanking everyone and the hard work that has been done to get our NT's to where they are today. Then you hit the post button and nothing. Oh well. I too, would like to give praise to the awesome dev's on this site working hard to bring us a great device. IMO, BN should give you all a kickback for all the nooks that haven't been returned due to the work that has been done. Yea right --- that will never happen. All I can say is Thank You with deep admiration for the work you do,.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the hard work. The NT is just so much better with all all the unlocked capabilities that I've been enjoying post root. I look forward to seeing development for the NT mature.
The devs are amazing. Some of these devices are a beast to crack, and they do it while managing all those whining for it to get done yesterday!
Keep up the good work!
I am going to close this thread. I think it is a bit unfair to single out a group of people to give thanks. We do have a "Thanks" button for that. I can only see this thread turning into a user basher.
XDA developers is here for devs to share and work together. Naming a few is only going to put others who have done great work down. We all appreciate the devs, without them this site would not be the same!
No more threads like this please!

i see people start treads for donations who want something done like unlocking a bootloader, porting a rom or porting an app or game
they state how much they are donating
but is the money collected by xda first as its stated or when the dev accepts the payment does everyone then pay ?
what is a ood average donate amount ?( i know is how much i feel comfortable donating but but is a good general benchmark?)
what are other methods of payment except paypal ?
this last question is out of laziness to actually google it what do i need to sign up for one of the methods above ? (credit card ? birthpaper ? )
i want to get a port of a GBA game done made for the smart phone with touch input how much would be sufficien encouragement for a dev ?
hai I want to make a mobile of my design I want to know what hardware is required for it
thank in advance
Yes, it is possible. But you'll end up investing more money than what's worth. And probably you'll never end up with a nice device.
Check out Kickstarter for hardware projects and see how much money and time they needed in order to get the products shipping (Pepple comes to mind).
Hey guys and girls,
don't know if this is the right sub-forum but I hope this place is okay... I just saw this offer from pocket lint today...
https://deals.pocket-lint.com/sales...-white-hat-hacker-bundle&utm_term=scsf-135083
It is called "White Hat Hacker 2017 Bundle" and offers linux programming, android hacking and other stuff. The price is not fixed, some kind of supply and demand thing I guess...
Anyhow... Are any people here who know how to program and who think that this could be worth buying? I am undecided right now... it is not much money but on the other hand I dont wanna buy something useless
Thanks in advance.
Greetz Ric
Buy it and give everyone ????
Scam. There's nothing there you can't learn better with some hands on practice.
