So I flashed nero v3 a few days ago. How would I go about flashing to v5. Would I have to odin back to stock then go to v5 or can I just flash straight from v3.

I never odin back and have never had issues. You can just flash over it. If there are a lot of bugs you can flash or odin back to stock and then flash the new Rom. Just be sure to disable voodoo if you go back to stock. Also, make sure any time you flash a new Rom to let it sit for 10 min then reboot to eliminate bugs and smooth it out. Hope this helps.

+1 except for the never Odin back part. Not that DCrozier28 is wrong but I always do it. The developers will usually tell you if it's necessary or not. For the most part dev to dev is pretty safe but for instance V5 was written purely based on KA5 so it might have some bugs flashing over V3 which was designed before KA5 was released.
To some Odin is an unnecessary step to me it's more peace of mind and an extra 5 minutes.
I have also found I have WAY more success to on the letting the ROM sit after 1st boot then reboot. Some roms and phones don't immediately load and situate everything, a good 10-15 minutes then reboot ensures everything is where it needs to be before you start loading stuff back up.
I had this same question, glad I found this post.
Also whats the best way to backup sms? I am just assuming use titanium and then restore once the new rom is there?
One thing I missed about my Touch Pro 2 was microsoft my phone. It was a easy backup and sync. I am still fairly new to android but there has got to be something similar.

i use Go SMS app and it has an option to backup all your current sms in xml format which can be restored.
If it wipes every thing is there really a need to odin?
I never have and haven't had an issue.

Like post above it could be Rom specific. Some debate may say to odin to stock but they will probably list it. I have flashed different roms over another with out ever odin to stock and never had an issue. Or at least issues that really bothered. Seems like its all about personal experience and opinion/preference.

i'm sorry, but that's not a good reason. sure, v3 (jl5) was written before ka5 was released, but you know what else was? jfd and ji6. the rom wipes, so it doesn't matter what the previous version was.

It's been stated it's a matter of personal preference and opinion unless the developer states otherwise. I personally don't mind taking 5 extra minutes to do the to make sure everything is wiped. The above was just one of hundreds of reasons, I can pick another. I have also PERSONALLY flashed ROM over ROM and had issues. If you have not then you are the almighty among us and I worship thee and will build a golden shrine in your honor.
Every single ROM posted has a disclaimer about it messing up your phone. So in allll due respect to the truly talented developers; these ROM are consistently not perfect ports of official releases and cannot be confirmed as a perfect flash overs once they hit the masses.
My SUGGESTION to a nooby(no disrespect just a fact) person that wold even ask this question is to YES Odin back and start fresh. "Why?" because it will keep the forum cleaner since there will be less room for error and extra, "I flashed V5 over V3 and now I am in a boot loop" or "is my phone screwed???" threads...

every rom has a disclaimer so if you mess up your phone you realize it's not their fault (i.e. you probably did something wrong). it's not because they think their roms are going to break people's phones. the exception being oc kernels that explicitly say (and is obviously typically ignored) not all phones can handle the oc.
you can enjoy wasting your time using odin, but just because you probably messed something up flashing between roms, doesn't mean everyone should follow your silly odin ritual. as you have pretty much summed up, you have no real reason or evidence why someone should odin between roms.
again, all vibrant roms wipe, so odin 'back to stock' will do nothing for you. if someone can't be bothered to read the instructions on flashing a rom (i.e. disable all lagfixes), then they either shouldn't be flashing their phone, or may actually learn from their mistake.

Theres nothing wrong with going odin to stock re-root then flash a rom. It may be a comfort level with some people. TO EACH HIS OWN! Don't be butthurt because someone doesnt do it YOUR way.
Hey guys.... Thanks to a member here at XDA, Krylon360, I have gotten my hands on the unreleased 2.2.1 Espresso OTA and so as usual my first stop in is to provide the new radio update while I sort the patches out and get you guys a stock rooted ROM... So without further chit chat as I got some work ahead of me, heres the new radio update taking baseband to 7.15.35.16.... Havent noticed much change although I have also tested nothing speedwise tbh so I will let you all report back on these things.... Grab the radio update here or here and let me know of any improvements or even negative effects it has caused with data, battery life, wifi, etc.... A CR_Mod stock., rooted OTA will follow shortly and you guys can get your much awaited 2.2.1 Froyo Espresso on early since TMO wants to lag..... Have fun... CR
PS: I did this with an update script rather than an updater script as it was easiest in windows which Im on for the moment... I will convert to an updater script in a little while. What does this mean you ask? It means any of you who have flashed the unsupported as of yet CWM 3.0+ rec images that are floating around will not be able to flash the radio. To fix this, use rom manager to reflash the current supported CWM rec, flash the radio, and if you must, reflash the CWM 3.0+ rec in fastboot.
Flashing!

Any way you can release the unrooted ota while we wait for it to be rooted?
Holy cow, wasn't expecting this, downloading here in a sec and then flashing!
EDIT: I think I may have experienced a double in downloading speed... But I could just be thinking that's whats going on.

Chiefz, thanks for the radio dump. I flashed via fastboot. Haven't noticed *any* changes whatsoever, though... Not that surprising.
I am, however, most interested in the actual contents of the froyo OTA. Any chance you could put the whole zip up for download before you root it and defang it?
It wont flash on a non rooted phone... It does a version check and it looks for a version we don't even have so it fails.... Im looking for the esprimg that may help the process... Not sure if this is gonna be as easy as last time... CR

Thanks to Adrynalyn and his mystery source, we now have a new Froyo drop: EC01. No more bastardized hybrids, this is a pure EC01 rom, Deodexed, Debinged, and given the Blackhole overhaul.
Features:
Includes the latest EC01 mods by Sbrissen (No Full Batt popup, Reboot options, Clock Options, Acc Batt., 6 Lockscreens, Music controls, AOSP Phone answer)
Lockscreen is now changed through the "LockScreen Settings" application.
Standalone version includes Gallery, Music Player, Video Player, Browser, Calendar, Calculator, etc.
At this point I don't believe there will be any more Rom Manager releases, but I will be working on the ACS release as soon as I can find some time.
This is a Clockworkmod 2.x (green or red) flash, if you have Clockworkmod 3.x installed (orange) check out this link for an odin file to restore Red Cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=556634&d=1301538947
Still having some problems with the neverending bootloop if you wipe /data so DON'T! If you're coming from stock or Superclean, or an older Blackhole rom there is no need. If you're coming from AOSP you should be fine too. If you're coming from Kaosinate or MIUI then you'll probably need to flash or odin back to stock before flashing this, but I haven't tested. After this rom is flashed do not wipe /data.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
Now that all that's out of the way, enjoy the release of Blackhole 4.4!

Ned a little more info.
Will this phone see Gingerbread from Samsung or the people that actually know how to program?
I think getting Froyo was a big step because it was sooooo much different than 2.1. Difference between 2.2 and higher arent as huge, and 2.2+ is based on 2.2, so chances are we'll get there someday, with or without the "official" label.

Like chrisexv6 says, Official Gingerbread from Samsung? I doubt it. That being said if there ever is a Gingerbread Rom, official or not, based on the Touchwiz Framework I'll update Blackhole to it, However I have no plans to make a CM7 version, or an AOSP version, simply because I'm starting to have trouble finding time to work on things, and I don't want the current project to suffer like it did when I spent all my time trying to get a vibrant version working. I'm sticking with stock Rom Modification for the Fascinate.
However, Gingerbread Roms based on AOSP or CM will be available and stable because of the work of great devs like Kaos, JT, Adrynalyn, and others.

I am noticing that my signal strength is still as low as it would be with t-mobile as my service provider. Anyone know why these roms have worse antenna than the stock eb01 when we are using the same radio? I am a driver and my phone is dropping a lot of calls where it used to have full signal (like in my house). If anyone can help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Note:do not tell me to dial *228, I am not a noob.

If you have the red voodoo recovery as well as the rom manager 3.0 (orange) then you can download the addons for this from rom manager then press cancel when it prompts you for the install. Manually reboot into the red recovery and select install .zip from sd card/choose .zip/clockworkmod/androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3/fascinate/ then find the corresponding downloaded file such as boot animation or app or theme and manually flash each, one at a time.
note: you do not need to reboot and start over after flashing each individual file. Flash all the files you want then reboot.

I put the TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom on my Fascinate, and then installed the Glitch v1.4 beta 5 kernel. Found that my 3G no longer would connect. I looked through the dev thread, and in post #5 saw, "Signal won't work, this kernel is GSM, your fascinate is CDMA" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459530&highlight=glitch+v14)
That sounds pretty definitive that you can't use this Glitch kernel with the Fascinate, yet I could have sworn I've read about others using it. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Humph. That certainly makes sense, given that the Glitch thread is in the Fascinate forums...but why did someone say there's a CDMA vs GSM problem?
Lemme try reinstalling it, after first doing another Nandroid backup.
Is the kernel that comes with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom available, so that I don't have to fuss with Nandroid if I need to revert from Glitch?
just reflash the rom but dont wipe data.

Groan...I'll have to put off starting over for a bit; I don't have time right now to set up everything again. And I'm a bit worried about "reactivate your current device" since, per my other thread, I'm unable to get a dial pad when calling *228.
the problem is you flashed the glitch b4 for 6.0 instead of the b4 6.1 version. If you read my guide it clearly states which version to flash. Also that link you posted is for the TELUS Fascinate NOT the Verizon Fascinate...
Well, I flashed with the b5 for 6.1 version, and while the 3G worked, I ended up with the unable-to-Nandroid-backup bug. Since the only remedy I could find (clear the cache and Dalvik) didn't help, I've gone back to the kernel that came with TeamHackSung ICS. I'll keep an eye posted to see if future Glitch versions manage to fix the backup bug. Thanks for all the help.

Glitch gives you the ability to overclock up to 1500mhz... also in call audio is clear and alot more crisp than the stock kernel...the bug where you have to always adjust the volume down on every call is fixed aswell. There is a problem with a partition not being mounted. And is being looked at. Find out more info in the glitch v14 thread in development.. For now just do a backup with the b3 kernel then flash back to b5

Yes, thanks, someone told me that on another thread. To summarize:
To activate phone or update roaming without a keypad:
*22890 ---> This will program/activate your phone.
*22891 ---> This will update your roaming capabilities.
No need to hit other buttons after dialing. Let it finish, and reboot your phone.
You can also try dialing star 228 and then hit the menu button and add 8 or 10 2-second pause to it... It will look like this: *228,,,,,,,,,1
Hey guys, do you need the gingerbread boot loader before going to glitch? I can't find them in the vanilla ROM post.

Here ya go.
You don't really "need" the bootloaders before flashing glitch, but you should definitely have them to minimize any issues. Also, if you like BLN, I would flash B4 as opposed to B5, it's not working quite right on the latest beta.

With the B5 kernel, my backlights come on when I have unread emails...and since I don't check them very often, I worry the feature is using a lot of battery. Is there a way to turn it off?

Just what are the bootloaders? What do they do, and how do I use them?
I am kinda new to all this. I just inherited the thunderbolt from my brother bc my other phone is dead. I am rooted and s-off running santod's Official Thunderbolt ICS deoxed debloated. My question was if I am able to switch to one of the older ROMS like NuSense ROM or UnSense ROM or anyone for that matter that I feel like. I know the process of flashing since I have gotten this far, but I don't want to flash these and then be in some sort of loop with problems.. Thanks in advance:good: Also are radios universal or.. I keep seeing people say just try a different one?
You can flash any ROM you like.
As for radios, look in the post about the ROM, they usually specify what radio is best for that ROM. The newest radio is defiantly needed for the new crop of ICS ROMs based on the official OTA as the older radios cause issues.
Only thing I can add to the first response... Always make a backup first. So when you somehow get into a bad flash/bootloop situation, you have an easy way back to a working device. Also verify your download by checking it's md5 code before you flash. Almost (if not all) files you download will have it listed with the download link on the forum op you're getting it from.

Thanks guys! I'm currently using thundershed v1.6 CM7 bc I am a BIG fan of CM. I have run into some issues with data and wifi though.. All of the sudden they stop working and I have to reboot and then they work again.. Maybe its the phone not sure..

It's not your phone but the Rom itself. That's a known issue with cm roms on this phone.
