[ROM][4/15/11]Blackhole[4.4] - Fascinate Android Development

Thanks to Adrynalyn and his mystery source, we now have a new Froyo drop: EC01. No more bastardized hybrids, this is a pure EC01 rom, Deodexed, Debinged, and given the Blackhole overhaul.
Features:
Includes the latest EC01 mods by Sbrissen (No Full Batt popup, Reboot options, Clock Options, Acc Batt., 6 Lockscreens, Music controls, AOSP Phone answer)
Lockscreen is now changed through the "LockScreen Settings" application.
Standalone version includes Gallery, Music Player, Video Player, Browser, Calendar, Calculator, etc.
At this point I don't believe there will be any more Rom Manager releases, but I will be working on the ACS release as soon as I can find some time.
This is a Clockworkmod 2.x (green or red) flash, if you have Clockworkmod 3.x installed (orange) check out this link for an odin file to restore Red Cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=556634&d=1301538947
Still having some problems with the neverending bootloop if you wipe /data so DON'T! If you're coming from stock or Superclean, or an older Blackhole rom there is no need. If you're coming from AOSP you should be fine too. If you're coming from Kaosinate or MIUI then you'll probably need to flash or odin back to stock before flashing this, but I haven't tested. After this rom is flashed do not wipe /data.

Now that all that's out of the way, enjoy the release of Blackhole 4.4!

And for everyone, coming soon: A whole new way to Build-Your-Own-Rom. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to it. Thanks for all you do.

Cant wait, love your work!

That's what I wanted to hear!!! But, I need to know how to flash back to a previous version of CWM recovery via rom manager. I flashed the 3.0 before I knew the problems it would cause. What do I need to do to be able to snag Blackhole 4.3? Thanks for any help.

WHOA....I thought Blackhole was done. Been keeping an eye on the other forum and it was dead for almost a month.

Yeah, between my life and their host its been hard to find time for this, but I'm glad to be working on the fascinate again. As crappy as samsung is, at least they're not suing us (sony) or bricking our phones for using unauthorized software (3ds). As far as the clockwork revert, I'll have files and instructions in the linked post tomorrow.

It feels as though perhaps EB16 could be the last update for this phone. Do you think this phone will ever see Gingerbread? I haven't read this anywhere, just personal gut feeling. What is your take on this?

Awesome!! Thanks SOS3 for all that you do. We love your roms. Maybe a dumb question but is 4.3 gonna have adryn's new EB16 working voodoo as one of the choices for the kernel?

Ned a little more info.
Will this phone see Gingerbread from Samsung or the people that actually know how to program?
I think getting Froyo was a big step because it was sooooo much different than 2.1. Difference between 2.2 and higher arent as huge, and 2.2+ is based on 2.2, so chances are we'll get there someday, with or without the "official" label.

You do know kaos is on the verge of releasing what we all expect to be a stable version of gb right?

Hopefully there will be some really close version tracking since there's been such a flurry of software tweaks for this phone!!!
thanks devs for your efforts!! I was a blackhole fanatic when I rooted since the update portal was so easy!!

Sweet! I was wonder if 4.21 was the end of the line for Blackhole. Looking forward to your next release!

For those who aren't good at reading between the lines, sonofskywaker3 is trying to tell us that the Blackhole 4.3 rom is currently available for VIP members at the link in the OP.
Enjoy!
Thanks for a great rom!

Like chrisexv6 says, Official Gingerbread from Samsung? I doubt it. That being said if there ever is a Gingerbread Rom, official or not, based on the Touchwiz Framework I'll update Blackhole to it, However I have no plans to make a CM7 version, or an AOSP version, simply because I'm starting to have trouble finding time to work on things, and I don't want the current project to suffer like it did when I spent all my time trying to get a vibrant version working. I'm sticking with stock Rom Modification for the Fascinate.
However, Gingerbread Roms based on AOSP or CM will be available and stable because of the work of great devs like Kaos, JT, Adrynalyn, and others.

I am noticing that my signal strength is still as low as it would be with t-mobile as my service provider. Anyone know why these roms have worse antenna than the stock eb01 when we are using the same radio? I am a driver and my phone is dropping a lot of calls where it used to have full signal (like in my house). If anyone can help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated. Note:do not tell me to dial *228, I am not a noob.

If you have the red voodoo recovery as well as the rom manager 3.0 (orange) then you can download the addons for this from rom manager then press cancel when it prompts you for the install. Manually reboot into the red recovery and select install .zip from sd card/choose .zip/clockworkmod/androiddoes.net/sonofskywalker3/fascinate/ then find the corresponding downloaded file such as boot animation or app or theme and manually flash each, one at a time.
note: you do not need to reboot and start over after flashing each individual file. Flash all the files you want then reboot.

No, you are not. The issue is that Clockwork can't read (and therefore wipe or backup) the ext4 partition that voodoo puts our data in. It might not be able to read RFS as well, I am not sure.

I doubt that is the case, but I as well do not fully understand what Jesus here is trying to say, I will leave it up to him for further explanation.
As a side note, I would be thrilled if they released Cyanogen for the Fascinate, that would be fantastic.
The issue is that Cyanogen is based off 2.2 (Froyo) and the Fascinate does not have a 2.2 kernel yet.
I was on their wiki last night and almost made the same mistake until I read that part. I was all excited and was thinking, "How did no one see this"
then I punched myself in the face
Whoa -
As near as I can count, you guys are talking about three different things:
1) Clockwork Recovery is definitely available for the Fascinate, and has been for a while.
2) Clockwork Recovery and Cyanogenmod are different things.
3) The issue with Clockwork Recovery not reading Nandroid backups ONLY applies if Voodoo is installed and enabled. Supplysidejesus covered this correctly.
Martian21 got it right in that Cyanogenmod 6.* is based on Android 2.2, so we won't be seeing it until Samsung pushes a 2.2 update.
The good news is that Koush has expressed a willingness to work on the CM port when there is some Froyo source to work from.
Good things will come in time!

I don't think I would get too excited on that one..
Being a former Droid Inc user, I would personally rather get another CM guy on it.
Koush does SO MUCH for the community that I think he's spread too thin to give this device the full attention that it will need. I am not knocking him, he's awesome and done a ton. With his new company he works for and all the rom manager items and things for clockwork recoveries, I just don't see him working on this one.
what would be great is if a team of devs worked on the CM part when the time comes instead of a one man show.

That would be great. It sucks that there are so many people out there eager to help, but no way to *quickly* get the skills it takes to help? I wish it was as easy as watching a youtube video on what to do - I know there are some, but it seems like something's missing?

It also say's "NOTE: ClockworkMod Recovery is currently not available for the Samsung Fascinate. Please check the wiki or follow clockwordmod on Twitter for updates.", but i am running 2.5.1.0 via rom manager as we speak? Very intersting...
...
Recovery doesn't require 2.2.
I don't know anything about developing but I just read on wesgarner's twitter that the source for the galaxy s CM6 is now available, does that mean anything to us fascinate users?

Not sure how else to explain it, but I will try.
By default, Samsung places the /data/ partition of the phone in a file system called RFS. It is slow and inefficient, so the guys over at the Voodoo project created the lagfix which converts the partition to ext4, which is a MUCH faster file system, and makes accessing and using our apps much more efficient.
The only problem with this and Clockwork Recovery is that Clockwork does not have the capability to READ the ext4 partition that the Voodoo lagfix creates. So, when you do a nandroid with Clockwork, it will backup everything it is supposed to backup EXCEPT the ext4 data partition. That is the issue we have with Clockwork. Until Koush adds support for ext4, we are kind of dead in the water for a complete nandroid backup.
That's all I was saying.
Like I said, I'm also not sure if Clockwork can read the default RFS partition - someone would have to confirm or dis-confirm that for me.
Wish I was knew more. I have a lot of the infrastructure info down, I think, just no good with code and programming.
Bleh.
Clockwork can backup the /data partition on a stock Galaxy S. That is why you have to diable Voodoo in order to do a full Nandroid then you can re-enable it.
As was stated earlier Koush has said that he will port CM6+ to the Fasinate once 2.2 source is availalble. to try to work from 2.1, while possible, would be a wasted effort with 2.2 so close. All Koush needs to do is lay the foundation for CM6, there are dozens of other talented devs who can take that work and build on it. Don't fear - CM6 will come and will be actively suported by many devs. I'd be willing to bet that once Voodoo is officially released for the Fascinate Koush will add support in ClockworkMod recovery.

[ROM][ESPRESSO][STABLE][ECLAIR] Espresso No Bloat-ware

Hey Guys, just finished playing around with the kitchen and made a simple modification to the default espresso ROM. Unlike other Roms, this ROM does not have a lots of kernel level modifications, and lots of changes. But this ROM is just the default Rom that came with your shipped myTouch 3G Slide, except that this ROM does not have all the bloat-ware that make your phone slow and laggy. The followings features are included:
Features
======
Espresso UI
Busy-box
Rooted
SuperUser
NANO Editor
Deodexed APK Files
100% Stable (Think of it as your default rom)
Nothing that does not work.
Flash player
Cool Boot animation (Who likes that crappy tmobile boot animation? )
Eclair (2.1) [Tried Everything To Use Froyo And Make It Stable, No Luck, But I Don't Think There Is A Lots Of Stuffs Missing In Eclair)
Some Other Stuff
Removed Stuff
==========
All Crapware
HTC PDF Reader (Use Adobe Reader From Market)
HTC Twitter Client
Stocks
Stocks Widget
Tmobile Visual Voicemail (Get It From Market If Needed)
Tmobile My Account (Same as above)
Amazon MP3
AppPack Tmobile
All other crapware that makes your phone laggy.
As far as i know, there is nothing that doesn't work (Played it with for few days to see if something is wrong). Proximity sensor, wifi, bluetooth, keyboard, all the keys, touch screen, and almost everything works perfectly. Please let me know if something doesnt work.
How to install
=========
First root your phone using this method or this method.
Then put the zip file in your sd card and go to clockwork recovery. Then just install the zip file as you would do with every other rom.
If you dont get what i am saying, check this.
Please let me know if something does not work. THanks
[I am not an android developer, just a simple guy [and a bit of java programmer] ]
I dont think Tmobile is going to give us Froyo within this Dec 15th as rumored by a lots of sites. But for now, lets stay happy with eclair and lets hope they will send the updates soon.
Download ROM
GUYS, PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD OR LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT THIS ROM BECAUSE THIS WASNT MEANT TO BE A ROM THAT EVERYONE SHOULD USE, I MADE IT FOR MY OWN PERSONAL USE AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE HERE SO THAT AT LEAST SOMEONE MIGHT BE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS. MODS --> IF YOU THINK THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE OR SHOULD NOT BE HERE, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE THIS THREAD IN THRASH FORUM (DELETED)

OTA brought the retail system (1.27.531) to 1.35.531 and updated the radio as well. If you're linking me to the correct Espresso zip that you used, you've based you rom on outdated system software.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Has someone flashed this that can check their About this Phone section of settings to see which system version this is?

That is the latest we can use, because the latest ota does not allow flashing unsigned packages, so even clockworkmod wont work there. but you can always install the rom first and install the update.zip for the new ota (that is if you find one) . good luck

Pointing out that the starting-point of this rom is outdated and potentially buggy is hardly a negative comment. It's a statement of fact that isn't mentioned anywhere in the first post. People should be aware of what they are flashing.
Improvements included with this update are as follows:
1. Battery Life:
Updates to the T-Mobile online contact backup connection, which will improve battery life.
2. Wi-Fi:
Ability to send MMS messages when connected to Wi-Fi.
3. Genius Button improvements:
Ability to turn GPS on and off using your voice, such as “Turn GPS on.”
Will announce Caller ID for incoming voice calls and allow you to “Answer” or “Ignore” using your voice.
Will announce incoming text messages and allow you to “reply” with dictation.
4. Faves Gallery improvements:
The Faves icon will be displayed beside notifications that appear while the device is locked to indicate that the communication is coming from one of your Faves.
Fave photo display speed will be enhanced.
General stability will be improved, including more seamless scrolling and consistent display of photos

[RELEASE] DL09 rom, kernel, radio

Finally,
The moment all of you have been waiting for. DL09 has been officially released. Well, by us anyway.
What does it fix? I have no idea!
I extracted it, and:
-Doedexed
-Zipaligned
-De-Binged (save browser default search)
-De-bloated
-Includes busybox 1.19 compiled by me, that can ping by FQDN.
-Rooted, of course.
I also edited the sound when you touch the screeen. If you don't like it, the old copy can be reverted back. Its in system/media/audio/ui. Attached is a cwm patch to revert to the old sound. Takes like 5 seconds to run, tops.
Note:
-Maps is not included, it must be downloaded from the market.
Is it an official update? No. Will it ever see the light of day? Quite possibly. Will it void your warranty? Definitely. Is it worth it? Maybe.
You need to be rooted to install this update and have access to clockworkmod. Data wipe is essential. Voodoo needs to be REMOVED PROPERLY prior to installing this update. All parts should be installed, or things will stop working...such as haptic feedback, and sms. DJ05 and DL09 radios appear to be interchangeable, but heavy testing has not been conducted.
There are three parts.
Radio:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/roms/DL09modem.tar
This gets flashed via Odin, in the PDA section.
System/rom:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/roms/DL09_2.zip
Mirrors:
www.eleazar.org/Adrynalyne/DL09_2.zip
http://www.4shared.com/file/gNKnCuua/DL09_2.html
Torrent Mirror:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6077375
This gets flashed via clockwork.
Kernel:
Non-voodoo
http://adrynalyne.us/files/roms/1230_NON_voodoo.zip
Voodoo:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/roms/1230_Voodoo.zip
Note- Both of these kernels are similar to my previous test kernels, except they include boot animations. They are undervolted, and based of of jt1134's source on github. DJ05 kernels will work fine for DL09, but you should supply your own boot animation if you do not use one of the above. The stock boot animation does not work very well.
https://github.com/adrynalyne
These get flashed via clockwork.
Thats it. For those who want the unclean, dirty, and sucky experience of full stock: http://gunsforgeeks.com/Fascinate/DL09_stock.zip
Bloated, rooted, odexed, and has busybox.
Some notes:
Do not flash anything made for DI01 or DJ05 with DL09. You are asking for stupid things to happen.
DO flash stuff made for DL09, if you can find it.
This is not froyo, its 2.1, but a bugfix to hold us over.
No warranty given, implied, or anything else. You are on your own!
I apologize if glitches are found, not a lot of testing was conducted.
Thanks:
All the devs on IRC, and the original leaker, god rest his soul (we buried his bones after picking him clean after the DJ05 leak).
Do you prefer this over the DJ05?
Lame now i will lose all my stuff again
Thanks!

I figured that would be an option. I just thought maybe there was a workaround for the stock browser.
There are two other browsers that you can flash over your original browsers... Search them in the dev forum.
This isnt the aosp build is it?

There probably is, I was just messing with you. Maybe someone with greater knowledge can answer this for you.

Absolutely not. It is at the top of the page.

Vibrant 4G/Galaxy 4G GPS files [Clockwork Flashable]

I've created a clockwork flashable containing Vibrant 4G GPS files. I have flashed it but haven't had a chance to test it yet. Anyone interested may flash it. You should have Froyo installed on your vibrant to flash it since vibrant 4G comes with Froyo. This is from the latest "KAE" leak of Vibrant 4G ROM.
I know gps sucks on Vibrant but I thought it's worth a try...
Can you provide a revert cwm zip file? I'd be interested in trying this.
Good luck to all who try it! Interested in hearing feed back.
I can confirm that it does not break any functionality. Does it improve things, maybe but that's subjective.

Updated OP with flashable restore of KA6 GPS files
Has anyone been getting good results?

These are planned for the next Flagship, so I too am curious to hear some feedback on them.
I tried these on Trigger 1.5 and it only delayed lock times to a minute... anyone else with better luck?
I'm not so sure, but it never really matters on the Axura Rom, 2.2.7.2 build. Still gets locks (avg 20 seconds).
I'll test for about a week, and i'll post feedback if i can remember to post. lol

I flashed this onto M-Flagship v3 and I got no locks, no sat's. It also caused re-Boots. Got my phone into recovery mode and flashed your revert file and still went into re-boots.
I tried to restore both of my backups made with CW recovery M-Flagship V3 and M-Flagship V2 and still could not boot.
I eventually needed to flash M-Flagship v2 clean from the rom file from scratch to get my phone back. Then clean flash M-Flagship v3.
Now everything is working as before.
I have had no real issues with my GPS yet. From stock out of the box 2.1 through Bionix Fusion, Axuras, and now M - Flagship - Einherjar Dev Team.
So it did not work for me.

[Q] Vibrating at Samsung after flash try

Wanted to update rom, so I went through a lot of choices and decided on this one:
SuperClean by Adrynalyne
Followed instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798064
Thought I did everything correctly. After apply the updating and rebooting, I'm stuck at the Samsung Logo, with a pule vibrating. One vibe, pause, then two quick and just repeats over and over.
I tried searching but couldn't seem to find anything that helped.
My odin is Odin3 v1.83
my cwm-recovery's binary file is dated 3/30/2011
I was running VZW updated gingerbread 2.3.x (i think the x was .5)
Thanks for the help.
back on gingerbread
followed droidstyles steps to reset back to stock.
what did I do wrong in trying to update to the supreclean.
thanks

why are you wanting to flash an outdated rom that is no longer being developed? Imo flash aokp glitched b34 and dont look back...if your stuck on touchwiz then flash nitsuj17 superclean3 rom.
Isn't super frankenclean a froyo or maybe even late eclair rom? And you flashed it over gingerbread..................
First of all you probably have gingerbread bootloader and that isn't going to play nice with such an old build. Secondly it makes no sense to flash that version as frankebclean evolved into Superclean which is now on gingerbread itself.
Seriously, do some reading about the different versions of Android. If you want to install a number of popular apps you are going to need to be on at least froyo and increasingly at least gingerbread.

I didn't realize that it was an outdated rom.
I got reset back to stock and following droidstyles guide.
ended up using for now superclean 3 I think, just I didn't want to go back to stock.
I did realize I was on gingerbread before but just made the mistake on that first rom I tried.
thanks
Only problem I'm seeming to have now is with the wifi tether.
I went to the android wifi tether page, cannot post the link yet.
downloaded the last non-beta/experimental release (2.0.7)
installed, granted super user, start tethering, but don't see the SSID popup. Not on my other android phone (charge), my Kindle Fire, or My laptop. I tried a couple other wifi tethers (barnacle was one), but had the same result.
Should I have to update something else?
Thanks for the help guys.

go into device profile and set it to galaxy nexus cdma
Super clean 3.0 is a good choice if you want or need to stay close to stock. Geewis is also a good touchwiz rom.
If you start feeling adventurou and in the mood for an ice cream sandwich the aokp glitched builds are really something else as they will give you an additional 40mb or so of ram. On the ram star ed fascinate, that's a big deal.
Anyway best of luck in all future flashing.
