I recently received an X10. I was wondering if anyone else has a problem with switching from video to camera mode and vice versa? For me, it's unresponsive and takes forever to switch back and forth between them. Do you just click on the icons? Maybe I'm doing it wrong (though I can't imagine how). If I can't fix minor issues like this, I'm going to pay $105 for a Captivate as a replacement.

That's strange. Do you simply press the video camera and then it changes? When I press it, it's delayed so much that I don't even know if it's the phone or not. Everything on the phone is stock.

Ok, thanks. I guess I'll change my phone to either a Captivate or another Xperia. I really don't feel like waiting for 2.1 or the "kits." I know it won't fix a lot of things like multi-touch and 16m colors.

As there are about 6 different versions so that doesn't help, and might have been resolved if you updated from an older version.

It was one of the first things I asked as you'd mentioned replacing it, and as I've already said, that or any other issues you were having might have been resolved with a FW update. Anyway, you've swapped now.
Are there any apps in the market that work well with our streaks front facing camera?

Under 2.2 I believe so. Fringe is reportedly working on a update to make it work on the streak but no word on when that will be.

I have seen reports that ClearSea works, but I don't do video calling.
you know what sucks? all other phone manufacturers create phones with front facing cameras that work fine with camera apps except dell. What kinda BS is this?
then ask yourself this, do you want one of those other phones if not deal with it! not saying that to be an a$$ its just what i do when my streak don't do what i want but by far its the best phone to me out i love it and couldnt imagine havin any other phone thats out i know its aggravating sometimes.

I love my streak and wouldn't want to trade it for anything but if your going to build a phone at least make it compatible just like any other phone.
Both oovoo and clearsea work with front facing camera.
Oovoo is simple, fast and fun and recommended by me.

Is it Dell's responsibility to make a device that individual apps work with or is it the programmer's job to make their app work different devices? Part of the problem (and part of the benefit) with android is that you do have so many different devices with different hardware specs. The camera works as is evident with it working in the camera app and oovoo. Times for developers to update their program.
Dell Streak powered by Streakdroid 1.8.1
A little bit of both, makers should make their phones behave correctly relative to what android expects, and app makers to expect that not every device is identical.
That said the streak has really weirdly written drivers. the ffc and screen orientation are the most obvious examples. If the streak had better written drivers and open sourced them, we'd prob have a working cyanogen port and unofficial gingerbread by now.

Amen. Also wouldn't hurt to have a little more developers then just Dj Steve. When I was on the nexus one the developers page has 10+ developers on it if not more. I guess HTC phones are easier to work with for developers.

With all due respect to the developers who I think do the best work out there for Android phones...I've tried a few of the new ROM's and I've not experienced the full working Camera claimed in several of the threads. I'm fine with the no zoom feature...I downloaded Vignette and it's all good.
It's the camcorder that I need working 100% with a new baby on the way. I am on BB 46 and I found that I had the audio delay issue with video recording. I applied the patch that came out for that issue and then I had issues with the video's freezing, particularly longer ones.
Does anyone run a 2.2 ROM and not have video camera issues in 720p? If so, what ROM/BB combo are you on?? After switching back to 2.1 last night I'm really missing the performance of the 2.2 OS and am dying already to get back to it
I'm not sure about the camcoder but I think Wolf's CM rom is quite good as he's constantly trying to fix the lag issues.
The stock camera/camcoder app can take things at a better quality, but the zooming is way too slow for me.
If you like the stock app, then you can wait for the GB update as some testers claim that they are going to use the SE camera app in our update.
I've made a couple movies myself in 720p and didn't notice any issues with it.
I'm on Wolfbreak's CM6 rom.

So no audio lag, no video freezing?
What baseband are you running? Are you on the stock kernel or a custom one? Did you just apply his latest ROM or any extra camera fixes?
thanks

BB shouldn't make a difference in the camera but you should flash to .52 if you really are on .46 and not .49. I have no noticable delay with WolfBreaks ROM with the hotfix on BB .58 but I haven't done any extensive testing either but in the videos I have made since he released the .061 hotfix I haven't noticed the lag.

Yeah I'm leaning that way, but the 2.2 performance overall is so tempting
I saw a lot of posts from you in the 2.1 camera mod thread. Would you recommend I stay clear of that and stay 2.1 stock, or patch the V10 camera upgrade? You showed some pretty impressive pics in that thread after applying the patch and playing with some settings.

Yeah, the thing is is if your running firmware .435 V10 wony work so well. Theres video/audio lag when playing back your recording. But when i switched to firmware .6 V10 worked awesome.
So if your running .435 use V8 as V9 and 10 were built over the .16 firmware. V8 was built over the .435 firmware.
Or you can just stick to stock which works really well itself. EV control is the major benefit.
I explained how to use it in the camera mod thread.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
What I would do is this: Setup whatever 2.2 ROM you decide has least lag issues/best camera options then create a backup. Then flash a 2.1 ROM custom or not the camera is the same but only install apps you absolutely need and make a backup. Now you can switch back to your 2.2 backup and if you need a better camera restore your other backup and since you haven't installed a bunch of stuff it should load quickly. You could also set up the reboot to recovery script (doomlord has a thread on dev forum) and create a shortcut to it which would act like a widget to further speed up your restore process.
You should also upgrade your baseband because .46 is just old, .49 and .52 are the same generation and work with the same ROMs. Generally speaking the newer the BB the better the radio and battery and .58 is the newest now, although MiUi and GB ROMs work on older generation.

This I'll definitely consider. A dual boot situation at this point is more work than I'd likely use. Now that i've been back on 2.1 for a few days(keep in mind it's an optimized stripped 2.1 rom)....life's not so bad. I don't apparently watch much flash content on the phone because i'm not missing that. Really the coolest thing I miss is having the ability to toggle my wifi/apn etc from the status bar.

Firstly.. do you have a X10i?
If you do
Then flash the stock rom.
Flash BB.67
Then flash Wolf breaks rom once it's started up crash the server and reboot a few times.
Then flash the TW 007 patch for WB's rom.
Here is the link to the thread that has this fw:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733
also i have posted my impressions on this fw on another thread, however i am copy pasting them again here, no prob:
I got it yesterday from xda and to be honest I was not sure whether to update or not, cause of the loss of apps and settings (I have to do them all over again cause I don’t like to back up stuff). I prefer to start fresh when I update. Anyways, to get to the point, the update at first did not seem any different, however after using it for a day it gives the phone a GREATLY improved interface. What I’ve noticed so far:
1. Touch screen is more responsive and the scrolling is smoother (I use launcherPro). I have also tried games like Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope and Can Knockout 2 and there is a great improve on the touch response without lags or delays. In addition, touch seems more precise.
2. When I wake up the phone and unlock it it does not lag like it did in the previous firmware (.435)
3. Apps and in general everything I tap to open responds faster and has an animation (Not sure if that was from before, I noticed now)
4. I have noticed that the media volume is way higher, I hope I am not mistaken but to me it seems really higher than before. Not sure about the in-call volume though, I cannot really tell any difference, at least not a major one.
5. There is a difference into battery life definitely. I use ATK(Advanced task killer), Autokill set to Screen Off and Security level to Medium. After the upgrade the battery seems to drain slower. However, I cannot tell since I am using the phone for only one day, but i can say that after an normal use of the phone during the day, with several calls, gaming etc. my battery now is down to 73%
That is all i’ve noticed so far. I am not a tester, just a simple user. I have not run any benchmark or similar tests on the phone. I am posting this for the simple users that want to know what to expect from this upgrade.
P.S.: I have removed junk appks and enabled JIT right from the beggining of usage. I figured if I do it before actually use the phone it would reduce the chance for those apps to collect information and save it on the phone, thus improve maybe a bit the speed and space.

Technically this update is regional, not global, so there could be battery and signal issues if it is not designed for your region. Not enough senior USA X10a members have reported their results trying this German firmware on X10A yet. Try it, if you have trouble flash back, and report back on xda.

It used to be so fluid smooth. Now it kerps freezing and lagging. The POST/COMMENT button wont work most of the time. I have tried 2 browsers and Its the same problem on both. Also it wont stay centered when im typing. If I try to scroll it to see my text im typing, it forcfully moves back to the other location. What kind of update is this? It broke System Panel so now the cpu usage meter on the top right stays peaked out at 15xxmhz almost. Is there any way to fix these problems? 1 hour and I already cant stand it. This blows! Id rather use my Touch Pro 2 than this if I could. :/

Im sorry if I came off the wrong way, in a way certain parts are quite speedy...but others, like Facebook took a huge hit. I tried a few of my emulators. They seem to work. Nesoid even works despite what I have heard from others. But it seems to lag on frames. Like, the video frames will appear faster but it will skip many thus the motion is choppy instead of fluid. N64oid works faster. I guess thats a plus. I only tried Goldeneye. Typing seems more accurate, but this sollg and screen jumping business is making it very difficult to type..with what was once cake. It wont stay centered on your text. The text boxes in facebook nuke the cpu as soon as you click inside them. It wasnt bad at all before this. I have not tried maps, but since you asked, I might as well.

Right? I was on gb until like a month or two ago and I still prefer gb firmware over ica firmware. I have yet to try the latest radios but I still love the gb radios
I found Opera Mobile to work better. But damn...and yea, its either revert back or custom ROM. I still have not ever flashed before. Guess its one of those things I worry about because if reading a few horror stories of someones phone being bricked after flashing or phone radio not working.
I have seen people in here praising ICS left and right like it was the best update ever. I dont come in here often enough so maybe I missed the posts saying ICS is slow. I wonder if it is Sense 3.6 causing the slowdown?
Most things are the same probably butvsome stuff is def faster and hardware acceleration/gpu rendering makes everything completely smooth and not choppy like GB. Things will get better with some gud kernels when they release source

Do factory reset in Settings, storage.

ICS is working flawless and 10x faster than GB. Sounds like you should try to factory reset and try again or somethings wrong. Any there's NOTHING wrong with the kernel....I have no idea why people are saying this, CPU tuner only works for rooted rezounds that have perflock disabled. Try uninstalling it

Major update from gb to ics will cause problems if you don't wipe the phone.
But to each their own
