I have the same issue. It annoys the hell outa me when I see that. Is there any way I can disable messaging log from appearing in call log.

On the first post of the Bionix-V 2.2 thread, they posted an add-on .ZIP file named "AOSP mms"
download it, boot into recovery, and install it from sd card
won't show your texts in call log after that (will still display that you texted someone prior to installing it though, just clear the entire log to start fresh)

Yeah I mistakenly linked the html to the 1.2 thread but I'm running bionix-V (2.2 froyo) and it works fine... can't seem to find the other thread even after searching :\
it's an addon so basically just moves a .apk file to your phone
just flash Bionix 1.2 and itlll fix that

aosp (android open source project) mms is basically the original native version of messaging app. you probably are familiar with touchwiz mms app developed by samsung which shows messages in balloons. aosp has different ui and messages are threaded. until team whiskey completely fixed bugs in the touchwiz mms app included in nero or bionix roms, people used aosp mms app to avoid issues sending pic msgs. some ppl like it better, some don't. whether or not you will like it is entirely your preference.
btw in bionix-v 1.2 when you go into call logs you will not see sent/rec'd msgs initially unless you press menu h/w button, view by and select all logs.
running froyo.ec05 on Samsung's Epic. Downloaded aosp mms via link above, moved to SD, saved as "update.zip", booted from recovery, and apply sdcard: update.zip. Received error message, signature verification failed, installation aborted. Any specific advice for installing this file would be appreciated.

First off, all credit on figuring out this mod goes to untermensch, thanks a ton!
Please see his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8542257&postcount=6114
So, this is the Mms.apk from Cyanogen Mod 5.0.8 (taken from the nexus 1 build) and modified to support the samsung puzzle-lock messaging notifications!
UPDATE 10/12/2010: added a smaller, faster version, with all images optimized, cut the file-size almost in half. New version is "Optimized_CM_5_0_8_with_puzzle_Mms.apk" though I'm leaving the original file attached to the post for anyone that wants to test both files.
For anyone that's never used an AOSP/CM android rom, you can see screenshots of the app here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidCM508MMS?feat=directlink
If you already use an AOSP/CM mms.apk, this can be pushed right on top of your existing apk.
To install if you still use the touchwiz mms apk, either use adb/terminal/root explorer to delete your existing mms.apk from /system/app then reboot, and uninstall "com.android.mms" then reboot into recovery, and clear cache and dalvik-cache.
Reboot one last time, rename this apk Mms.apk, and adb push to /system/app
Cheers everyone, and thanks again to untermensch for making this possible!
Awesome thanks for sharing your findings! Just pushed it to Bionix 1.7 and MMS seems to still work and have the puzzle piece. After getting so used to that puzzle piece I go nuts without it haha.
Thanks! Works great
Very cool thanks Man.
Updated the OP with a smaller, faster version with all images optimized, cuts the file-size almost in half.
Cheers everyone, =)
has this been tested with a stock 2.2 Mms.apk?
tyty! just pushed it to frankin-twiz. made it the perfect ROM.

Hi,
I posted a link in the OP to some screenshots. The biggest thing for me, is that instead of making delivery reports a notification that has to be cleared after every sms/mms, it shows an icon, in-line with the message text, that changes based on status (pending, delivered, error, etc.)
Also, this does not use the "chat bubbles" like the touchwiz mms app. Personally, I don't really care for them in the touchwiz mms, since it truncates long messages, forcing you to click each message to view the full text.
Anyway, hope this helps, cheers, =)
I followed you installation instructions but did not see the app named com.android.mms after deleting mms.apk and rebooting i didnt see it in titanium or the stock app manager...now i pushed the file but it wont show up after restarting 3 times? Hi,
I've never run into that before, everytime you remove/delete an apk from /system/app it should leave residual data. Granted, this is from a terminal/shell approach, I don't personally use titanium, root explorer, etc. but do almost everything from an adb shell.
The only thing I can suggest is try deleting the mms.apk again manually, from a shell, and reboot and then go to /settings/applications/manage applications and hit menu, change filter to all, and then search for anything that looks like com.android.mms
Sorry about that, not sure why its not working for you, do you run a custom rom?
cheers, =)

Confirmed working in Bionix Fusion 1.0.
s0niqu3:.
I know I posted this to Viral when he made the mods to the Mms.apk back in Bionix 1.7ish to get it black, but it never got fixed. The background color of MMS content (easily seen when adding audio) is still a light blue. Think you can change it to black to match?
Thanks for this. I tried following the instructions but it didn't cooperate. My mms.apk was still there after reboot. So I just replaced it with the new one using root explorer. Seems to work without a problem. Running Fusion 1.0

So nice to get rid of that cartoon like Samsung app!
Works great for me; Bionix 1.9 OC/UV/Voodoo.
I want the TW MMS icon though... the AOSP icon looks stupid.
Edit: Switched them with the pretty TW icons (used larger/higher res icons from each apk, picking the best ones). Works perfectly!

edit: Posted new apk from cm6.1 for the G2. Works flawlessly now.
Works on iced glacier deodexed rom. Not sure about stock rom, but I dont see why it wouldn't. Just delete the odex file as well when deleting Mms.apk

unmount /system from recovery

You're right. I got it working now. OP updated.
would this method work with the vanilla contacts.apk as well? I absolutely hate the sense version of contacts/dialer and I cannot wait for CM6 to be ported to the MT4G. If i could have the vanilla mms and contacts/dialer the wait would be much more bearable.

What would happen if I were to flash the gapps that Kmobs posted for CM6 over a rooted, s-off, stock ROM? I have a feeling best case nothing would work, worst case I'd get a bunch of force closes if the device were to boot at all. I've got a nandroid backup but I'm still hesitant. I'll try this out (because i freaking hate the slideshow stuff) and post if I get any FC's
Gotten 3 force closes so far while typing texts to people (within the past 1.5 hour ... :/) and some buttons in settings cause force closes. doh.
Anyone know how to get back the sense mms or whatever? I forgot to make a back up (though I have one from a few weeks ago, I've just done other stuff since then). Doh!
edit: It seems that it force closes for me whenever I send a message, but the message goes through to the other person, so not too big of a deal I suppose.
Hey guys, can anyone post their Mms.apk that is stock from the sense ui? This vanilla Mms.apk is seriously screwed up. I keep getting texts from people saying that I am sending the same text like 10 times when I only sent it once. It force closes whenever I send a text and claims that it never went through. It also force closes when trying to go to settings. I forgot to make a nandroid right before doing this
Can anyone please help me out and post their stock Mms.apk? Or if I just backup my phone with Titanium and then wipe/restore it, would that fix it? I'm not quite sure what the command "rm" did from the instructions. Ah.. this is what I get for playing with fire, doh!
Am I the only one with these issues? Stock rom btw :/
EDIT: Ok I guess you can ignore the above. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the Mms.apk found in this thread (I guess I did the other thread for some reason) and it seems to work OK now. Thanks all for putting up with me!

Just pulled this off of my phone.
I guess this is safe to post, since it's available free to all in Rom Manager now...
Thanks to JT1134, Punk.Kaos, and Adrynalyn we finally got a Froyo leak. Not like the Vibrant guys who get one every 2 weeks for the past 4 months, but I'll take what I can get.
So this ROM is based off of the EB01 leak released by Adrynalyn, it is Deodexed, and ready to go.
As with all my roms I have removed almost everything and allow you to add back only what you want.
This link is for the stand-alone version of the rom, it can be flashed without any additional files needed to have a running baseline.
Thanks to all of my seeders for the torrent, micdawg for the adbdev.com mirror, and to androiddoes for the bulk of the hosting.

***ROM MANAGER VOODOO INSTRUCTIONS***
If you are using the EB01 Voodoo Kernel you will need to revert the /system partition to rfs in order to use Rom Manager to apply updates or download the Rom.
1. Reboot into Red CWM by using the recovery power menu option or the three button bootup.
2. Choose "Voodoo"
3. Choose "/system lagfix off"
4. Reboot
This allows you to have the lagfix on all the other partitions, but still works with Rom Manager. After you've got the rom setup to your liking you can follow the same steps to turn the /system lagfix back on.
4.01 Changelog:
Added custom hosts file to block ads

Removed additional Kies and Nuance files from stock rom
Removed additional unused files
Removed default sounds, use market apps to make/download custom tones, or download Stock Audio Pack from Extras in Rom Manager
Removed spanish language from text-to-speech, can be redownloaded from the market.

Included 5 lockscreen mod by sbrissen, choose in settings/display between puzzle, glass, aosp, epic, or rotary
Included long press search key for google voice search mod by dhoard
Included modded camera by Gizmodroid (power key takes picture/starts recording, removed lowbattery lock, added geotagging)
**If you install a custom theme without these options built in you will lose them. look for themes updated 2/15 or later.**
4.21 Changelog:
Fixed bootloop after /data wipe issues
Kanged bits from Superclean 2.4 to improve stability (Thanks Adrynalyn)
Removed various unnecessary files
Added audio back into core rom because of some issues it was causing
**If you want a a build without the audio files let me know and I can make an optional update that will remove them**
Confirmed the phone app still FC's after a *228 programming, which also kills the buttons somehow, but it does update your roaming, just reboot and you're ready to go.
Downloding now kind sir.

[MOD][9/14/11][FIXED] GB Touchwiz (Stock/PW) Camera v1.0: Power Button->Shutter Key
EDIT (9/14): I've had the wrong link posted for days, but it's now corrected. Sorry about that! If you had trouble with force closes, please re-download and replace the file. (I had the froyo version posted instead of the gingerbread version, doh!)
Current Functionality over stock Camera.apk:
Settings menu option to enable/disable GPS tagging for pictures (ported from EH09)
Power Button in Camera mode becomes functionally the same as the touchscreen Shutter Key
GB Touchwiz Camera Mod v1.0 - APK version
Camera.apk - Download @ MediaFire.com
Installation: Since this is a system app, it cannot be installed using the Package Installer. Camera.apk must replace /system/app/Camera.apk. You can accomplish this many different ways. Two common methods are: 1) use ADB to push it ("adb push Camera.apk /system/app/Camera.apk"); or 2) copy Camera.apk to your SD card, then use a program like Root Explorer to move it to "/system/app/". If you are running a Stock GB rom, you will want to delete any camera.odex files in /system/app/, clear dalvik cache and reboot. For most deodexed roms, a reboot is only necessary if the camera is not working correctly after installation. For more information, feel free to read through the Froyo camera mod thread.

I have tested this on my phone with PWGB Version 2.0 (Beta 3). Please use at your own risk, and please post any successes, failures, bugs, feature request, etc. Also, please post what ROM you are using.
The more feedback I receive, the more likely I will continue this project with new features, CWM files, updated camera files, etc.
Also, since I'm currently broke and looking for a job, donations might tempt me into spending more time around here . Let me know if there is anything that needs hackin'!

I tried the camera.apk from ComRom GB and it works half the time.
One thing i did do after flashing PWGB Rom was run the permissions.zip from the op because i was having problems with Google Maps..wonder if that has anything to do with it....

Hmm, that should have worked. I'd love to see a debug report or logcat from when it crashes, if you have the time and know-how.
Otherwise, here is the the stock, unmodified powerwash camera:

Thanks! Just before you posted i reflashed again thinking a fresh install would fix it. So i flashed, ran the permissions zip put in your apk and same thing, force close....i dont know how to create a logcat or debug but can research it.

Hi & Thanks for the look. My phone is in my signature. Basically a virgin Galaxy Nexus unlocked and rooted.
Any .zip I try to install, even as you suggested above gives me the error. Sigh! I want that inverted stuff.
I love you guys and a newb of sorts I am frustrated in all the wonderful stuff that gets posted without install details.
I cannot help but think if I am trying to install a inverted MMS, Gmail, or People .zip should I not disable or rename the current apps that I am replacing?
I experimented flashing the su.zip and it went ok. So it is not my phone.......I think?
Thanks.

If your talking about the mms.apk,
I use root explorer to navigate to the system/app folder and find the OE mms.apk and rename it to mms.apk.bak to disable it. The icon will disappear from the home screen start bar and app drawer.
I then place the new mms.apk in system/app folder and make sure its permissions are all checked off.
Then go to my app drawer and see if its there and will run. If it does I drage the icon back onto my home bar.
Some devices are finicky. Some require a reboot after a renaming then move it in there. Some require a reboot after every move. Its according to the apk and the device.

Yeh. Just don't have two enabled ones in there.
Having major issue here. I tried to install the .zip when it was posted through cwm and it kept fibbing me an error. So then I downloaded the .APK file and tried to install it, another error. Then I moved it to system/app and when I rebooted I hand no messaging at all. I restored my stock messaging from my titanium backup file, but I can't figure out what's wrong. I really want this messaging system, I love the look. Can anyone give me some ideas?
