I'm still having problems with my GPS after installing Axura Rom 2.2.5.9. My GPS was working fine before this upgrade and I've tried all the fixes and it's not helping me. My GPS spotted 11 and 6 - 8 is in use using GPStest app but when I'm using navagation, it's always stuck on "getting driving direction" screen. I disable using wireless network and wifi. I don't think it's hardware issue because it was working fine before. I'm not sure if the newest version of Axura will help or should I reflash my rom? Please help!!
Disable data? This will not allow it to get the directions, hence your phone gets stuck at that screen.

I see you posted in the non hardware gps fix. What were you running that it worked so good? I think you need to go back to it or try reflashing what your on. Try a different rom maybe? Last try the hardware fix. A lot of ppl can't get their gps to work for crap no matter what. They send it in to samsung and all they do is reset it. No fix.

The last time my GPS worked was running stock. Everything is perfect with this new rom except the GPS issue. Does any ROM out there that have the GPS working??

I did try GPS restore but no luck, the Nav still stuck on "finding driving directions" screen. I have no clue why is it doing that. I see 10 birds and locked onto 6 - 8 with good signal strengh and Google maps works flawlessly with an instant written direction within seconds.
This is my setting for my GPS

5:GPS Plus

then back to home and reboot your device.
after it, get into lbs again

completed.

hmm I'm just shooting in the dark here but try clearing the data in google maps by going to settings>applications and then reinstalling? if that doesn't work then flash CWM recovery and reflash the ROM after clearing the cache?

Hey friends.
I've tried any JK2 based rom out there (Macnut, obsidian etc')
I just can't get the gps to work.
properly, either it takes about 10 minutes to get a lock and then consistently looses the signal and have bad accuracy or it doesn't lock at all...
is there a solution?
thanks!
Have you tried to reflash? Did you start from a fresh JFD install (using ODIN)?
I know that seems to work for some people. Also, I'm going to assume that you're not running with a non-stock kernel or with a lagfix installed. Sometimes, one or both of those things will make the GPS stop working (why? I don't know).
My GPS rarely worked on JFD. Worked on JI2, slightly better than it work on JI6. On the 2.2 builds I also know from personal experience that it works on Obsidian, Onyx and Axura - at least on my phone.
I'll try to odin to stock and then flash a new rom
I hope it works...
thanks!

I found a great solution: Download Anycut and GPS Test if you don't already have them. After long pressing on an empty home screen, choose shortcuts, then Anycut. Scroll down to LBS Test Mode and put it on a home screen. Open it up, hit delete GPS data. Then go to application settings, change "hot start" to "cold start". Go outside, open up GPS Test, if everything is good you should see satellites in view immediately. Then, be patient, you should see the in use ones gradually increase. When you get a maximum number (whatever it may be), go back into LBS Test Mode and change back to "hot start" and you should be good to go.

Try Macnut R10, do not try any other version,,, just R10, go to lbstest and delete your GPS data, and get back with your results...

Two things to try:
First, download and install off the market two apps: "APN OnOff" (exactly like that) and "GPS Status".
Run APN OnOff, choose "Show APN list", press Menu and choose "Reset to default". If this doesn't help, let me know and I'll offer another suggestion.
For GPS Status, press Menu and choose Tools and then "Manage A-GPS state". Then press Reset and then Download.
Note that from Menu you can choose Settings then "GPS & Sensors" and from there you can "Auto-download APGS data", and select how often it will automatically download fresh data. Ever since I used this, I have a lot less trouble with the GPS under any ROM with working GPS.
Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate the help. APN OnOff did not seem to do anything, nothing is fixed after trying that. GPS status force closes everytime i try to open it so i cant do anything with that.
Any other suggestions?

Try something besides Kaos just to rule out something in KF (I wouldn't base anything on whether things work in KG yet - it's way too early.)
In fact, try xtrSENSE - something close to stock. If that works, it's obviously not the hardware; if you still want to try Froyo, try another Froyo build to see if one of them works better. If it doesn't, you may want to unroot with Flashback21 and bring it to Verizon, to see if they can fix it or will replace the phone.
Are you doing a full data wipe and testing on a clean ROM install when you do all of these installs? Sorry to ask an obvious question, but you didn't mention it.
Yes I am doing a clean wipe before i flash each rom. I didnt just switch to kaosfroyo ive been using it for many months and all of a sudden it stopped working. I will try xtrasense to see if that fixes anything. Unrooting and taking to verizon is my backup choice. Is there a link to a thread on how to unroot and return to stock?
Thanks for the help
To return back to stock, I'd use the ROM Flashback21, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
You should be able to just flash it and it will remove Amon's Recovery and install stock Eris 2.1.

So far as I can remember, the GPS Status app has worked correctly on every "stable" ROM that I have used (but it has been a while since I had a KF ROM on my phone).
If it doesn't work on a near-stock ROM, that might suggest that you have a hardware problem. I don't know why SMS/1x would be at all related to the GPS issue, though.
I would take doogald's advice - unroot the phone, perform a factory reset (so the phone gets deactivated), and then re-activate it and see if the problems persist. If they do, then your phone is already set up for a return.
I have been running CELBFroyo 4 since it came out. I also had the same thing happen with messaging. I restored to an earlier nand, still nothing. I have tried tazz and kaos today. I will look for the apn on off. Thanks!

That is an interesting observation. Is this the sequence you used:
- Flashback21
- Factory Reset (to deactivate)
- Activate
- ( manual PRL update w/ *228 ?)
- Verify SMS working using Factory ROM
- Flash custom ROM & verify SMS working there also
I'm wondering (out loud) if what you were experiencing was a problem with an outdated PRL.
What about GPS? Did it start working again as well? I suppose that could also be a PRL issue - for instance if an outdated PRL was preventing aGPS initialization from the carrier.
If you have Nandroid backups of the KF ROMs you were having trouble with, you would be doing the Eris community a service by restoring one of those ROMs and then reporting whether your SMS/GPS service was fixed. (Obviously, you would want to make a Nandroid backup of whatever you have on the phone now, so you could reload it if you want.)

Just out of curiosity, in case you check back on this thread, did you install the Flashback ROM with or without the radio? If so, I wonder if updating the radio was part of the fix.
I will nandrestore to Kaos and let you know what it does.
I used flashback without radio, then went through the setup process. Didn't deactivate, just did it like any other flash.
I did not check gps before.
Did not use 778.
Will nand now.

Hmmm, strange. I don't know why that (the procedure you used) would cause a behavior change - unless you were overflashing KF ROMs one over the next (no wipes), and something got messed up along the way.
If that is the case, reloading a (corrupted) KF ROM from a nandroid backup won't prove much - unless you do that and also a fresh (wipe + new install) of the same KF ROM you last used, to prove that the problem had little to do with the ROM itself.
cheers,
bftb0
Ok naned back to a celb4.0 not kf, sorry everything still works.

GPS does not work on my phone w/ KGB v8; I suspect it doesn't work on anybody else's Eris either.
KGB @ V8 is still a development ROM - it shows tremendous promise, but I doubt that many folks are using it as their daily ROM.
several of the kf roms have had gps issues fixed by later updates. did the browser fc when you tried to open it? try something like froyoshedyo and see what happens, but nandroid your current setup first. not sure about the sms. the gps fix for kf39 is posted in the kf thread

I was having problems with my GPS as well where it would not lock on no matter how long I waited. I did not have this problem when I first got my phone and I'm not sure when the bug was introduced. None of the software fixes worked for me, including the ones discussed here, and the problem persisted across all ROMS, including stock.
Finally I found someone in a forum that recommended removing the battery while the phone was on. I was hesitant to do this for obvious reasons, but my frusteration drove me to desparation and I tried it. To my surprise the GPS works good as ever and typically locks onto my location in less than 10 seconds. Obviously if you can get the software fix to work for you, this is better, but this was the only thing that worked for me. Hopefully this will help someone else.

What should the agps settings in gps.conf be set to?
I already set ATT=0 and used Faster Fix, but still locking/fixing is very slow, sometimes taking hours.
Could this have anything to do with my location? I am in China now, have unlocked the phone so using on a local carrier. Last time I was in the US (using it with ATT) it worked great.
Solved - SGH-I777 GPS fix
The sirfgps.conf ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 did nothing for me on my AT&T SGH-I777.
I got that GPS fix app and gps worked but its full of spam adverts that show on your notification bar. They appear with a star infront of the spam advert.
I fixed it the old fashion way. By remembering how I fixed my AT&T Galaxy I gps issue.
in /etc/sirfgps.conf leave att_network_operator=1
change, SSL_ENABLED=1
save and exit
in /etc/gps.conf change the following:
SUPL_HOST=www.spirent-ics.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
save and exit.
now I get 7 second gps lock in Miami Fl.

Hello,
I have a SG Ace with the CyanoGenMod 7.1 installed.
The GPS only gives the position sometimes. I have tried GMaps, Navigation, GPS test plus and GPS status and none of them work properly.
Actually, only Navigation has worked twice and when it does, the rest of apps work too (just for a limited time).
It takes ages to work and the problem is not finding the satellites since I detect (with GPS status and GPS test plus) 6 to 10 of them. It seems like it can't process the data and calculate the coordinates.
Any idea of what could be the problem? Have you heard of same problem in others SGA with CGM7? Any solution?
Thank you very much!
PD: I haven't tried the GPS with stock rom but since it has work twice with CGM7.1 and detects the satellites I think we can discard that the GPS is broken. It is more like bad configuration.
EDIT: when I download the A-GPS info I NEVER get a satellite. This maybe a symptom of something.

Now we have a problem. I have tried almost every trick and nothing worked. I can't believe we are the only people having this trouble, there must be someone else.
Does anyone know how the GPS works? What is the algorithm? We should be able to find where the problem is located.
My GPS can find the satellites (from 6 to 10) even inside of buildings (2-5) and have worked twice, only twice but it went okay. Usually, it doesn't give me the coordinates, as I said, this only happened twice.
I think the error could be related to the next step, once it has located the satellites, what does it have to do? Synchronise with the ntp servers?
Also we can try a personalized gps.conf config file because the others below haven't worked.
I hope someone understand the GPS process better than we do and can help us.
Thank you all.
I provided 2 sets of gps.conf and secgps.conf and both also didn't work for you?

I have tried almost every gps.conf in the forum and I haven't fixed the Ace yet.
However, I discovered two things:
1) If you reboot the phone with the "GPS Active" option ticked and reset the AGPS data (with GPS-Status) you always get locked.
2) When you get locked as I said in 1), it always refresh the coordinates once per 30 seconds (a normal GPS do it in once per second, checked with a stock galaxy s2).
The 30 seconds refreshing is very suspicious, like a wrong value in a configuration parameter. Any idea?
I think the problem is in the cyanogen, remember this is a ported mod from galaxy s to galaxy ace so it was not originally programmed for this phone.
Good information, I suspect it's due to cyanogen too. Can't wait for the official cyanogen. I hope it will fix the GPS issue. It's annoying sometimes....

After trying all the possibilities:
- Installing stock (gps-ok) and restoring my cm7 backup NOT WORKING*
- Installing stock and cm7 from new NOT WORKING
- Installing different stocks versions WORKING*
- Installing mods (gingerreal....) WORKING
- Trying almost every fix with cm7 (gps.conf, fasterfix-apps...) NOT WORKING
After all, the GPS HAS NOT WORKED EVER* with cyanogen mod 7.1 RC1 in galaxy ace.
So I just got back to stock, rooted and reinstalled apps, configs, etc.
I have something to say: if GPS doesn't work to anybody with CGM7.1, this MUST BE in the specification rom page because for many people (like me) the GPS related apps represent a high percentage of use. People should be warned about this issue in order to install or not the rom.
Thank you all, you have been very helpful, as always in this forum.
(*) normal working means <20s to lock, refreshing every second, even when you turn the gps off and on again...
I use GPS extensively too

Hello friends,
I am actually a Sense convert, thanks to the combo of CM10 and AOKP, found in ROMs like JellyBam and PAC Man...
The ONLY thing that's making me unable to use those ROMs as my Daily Driver, is the following issue:
1. Turn on 3G and GPS togther
2. Launch map and choose a place to Navigate to (Navigation is launched)
3. EVERYTHING LOCKS PERFECT! My turn by turn is now ready
4. Give it a minute or two on the road and BOOM! The phone loses signal, 3G is cut off, GPS loses its lock, and I am stranded in the middle of my destination
Give it a minute or two... sometimes minutes on end, and the GPS locks again (after signal is restored and 3G returns), but shortly soon after, the issue repeats itself.
Now, can someone please confirm for me that that is indeed a CM10/AOKP bug and all of you have this issue? Trust me, I have tested it in MANY areas, it's not a weak signal issue. If I only have my 3G on, the connection is RARELY lost (probably with bad signal), but when GPS is used WITH 3G, it's almost UNUSEABLE and dangerous to navigate with, due to the loss of attention from the road and losing your turns ALL THE TIME!
I would appreciate any help on people confirming that I am not alone on this one, and that if you guys know any fixes or workarounds for this? I would love to offer a Logcat even, but personally, I have given up on Devs never willing to do that for the issues I have reported in the past. Not complaining, just saying they are busy or just don't want to help me with Logcats.
Thank you and I hope everyone is well. Appreciate you guys reading the message.
I've been on cm10 for over a month and have never had that problem. I've used navigation for 2 hours straight without a hitch.
Are you on the cm nightlys? I use the irc builds.

Download GPS status and toolbox from the play store. Menu, reset, then you're good. I've had this problem once and it hasn't come back since doing this.

I am suffering from the same issue, it persists for me on all CM10 builds and JellyBAM. I think I did what you said, but the bug did occur again (while using nav, gps and 3g signal goes out for a few minutes). I just wanted to double check what you were suggesting. When you say menu, reset, do you just mean reseting the phone after installing the GPS status and toolbox, or is there a menu option in GPS status and toolbox I'm not seeing?
Thanks,
doggyauge

He means download the app. Open the app. Then hit menu from within the app. Choose reset. Then close the app. Then reboot your phone and try your GPS.

Thanks for the quick response. Maybe I'm being stupid (I hope I am), but I do not see the reset option when I hit menu from within the app. I see Tools, Share, Radar, and Settings. Is it the Tools-> Manage A-GPS state -> Reset?
Thanks again.

Yea I'm thinking that's it. I'm not a 100% sure as I've not had this issue or a need to use the app. However that would seem to be it. If that fails look threw the settings for anything that has the reset option. Also being cautious is never stupid. Hope this helps.

Yes, that was it. How on earth did someone know to do that based on just that symptom?? Why is there no way to do a GPS reset like that via the system menus?
