Hey friends.
I've tried any JK2 based rom out there (Macnut, obsidian etc')
I just can't get the gps to work.
properly, either it takes about 10 minutes to get a lock and then consistently looses the signal and have bad accuracy or it doesn't lock at all...
is there a solution?
thanks!
Have you tried to reflash? Did you start from a fresh JFD install (using ODIN)?
I know that seems to work for some people. Also, I'm going to assume that you're not running with a non-stock kernel or with a lagfix installed. Sometimes, one or both of those things will make the GPS stop working (why? I don't know).
My GPS rarely worked on JFD. Worked on JI2, slightly better than it work on JI6. On the 2.2 builds I also know from personal experience that it works on Obsidian, Onyx and Axura - at least on my phone.
I'll try to odin to stock and then flash a new rom
I hope it works...
thanks!

I found a great solution: Download Anycut and GPS Test if you don't already have them. After long pressing on an empty home screen, choose shortcuts, then Anycut. Scroll down to LBS Test Mode and put it on a home screen. Open it up, hit delete GPS data. Then go to application settings, change "hot start" to "cold start". Go outside, open up GPS Test, if everything is good you should see satellites in view immediately. Then, be patient, you should see the in use ones gradually increase. When you get a maximum number (whatever it may be), go back into LBS Test Mode and change back to "hot start" and you should be good to go.

My phone's GPS does not work properly with any ROM in the site that is based on JK2, but Macnut R10.
Try Macnut R10, do not try any other version,,, just R10, go to lbstest and delete your GPS data, and get back with your results...

I am looking for a custom ROM that will work well with GPS and asat nav on the phone, hopefully google navigation.
Any that can be reconmended?
Also how do you install the radio on the phone?
Thanks
villain 5.4 works well with Google navigation.

I was just running 5,3 and it never found the GPS for some reason, it kept saying searching for GPS
what i did on villain was turn the gps on, restart the phone and just leave the gps on.
got a fix in 5 secs and really doesnt effect the battery much.
5.3 is really strange for GPS for me. When it finds my location it's great but often wont pick up where I am or thinks I am somewhere random.
GPS in Androbin beta r2 work good. I try it with google maps, ndrive and with "GPS test" app and no problem.
Sometimes I must wait for signal long time, but this is same as with original HTC ROM.
just installed sensehero 2.1 and finding that it wont get a fix on the GPS.
Is there a reason for this, or should i just leave it on and hope for the best?
just used soulehmoo's advice and it seemed to do the trick, but its on sensehero now. seems to work nice too. liking the background
I also tried aHero and sometimes i got a fix, but i never felt i was as good as when i had WM. Never tried a HTC so don't know how that worked
Villain 5.4 fixes a lot of GPS issues (have no problems any more)
if you have any problems (this goes for all 2.1 rom), do any of the following actions:
Reboot your phone with GPS on. Most of the times, this fixes everything
Reflash your radio ROM with GPS on when you shut down you phone to go into recovery mode
Radio doesn't need to be the latest version, latest version had connection and battery issues here (doesn't say you will have them also)
cool. thanks will try that, but how do I flash the radio? I'm pretty new to the flashing of ROMs.

same way you flash a rom. don't pull the battery, wait for it to reboot.
so i have to wipe the card and then put that on,flash it then reinstall a rom?

There's no need to wipe the card first or to reinstall the ROM afterwards. Also, iirc, the radio flashing actually takes place on the first reboot, not straight after you choose the recovery menu option to apply the update. You should be aware of this as a few people have been confused by it & done a battery pull in the middle of the update, with brick shaped results. As kendong2 says, don't pull the battery during the update procedure.
ah so i just put it on my SD card, and then click it like i would a rom, restaret the phone and let it do it?
I shall try that
Thanks
yes.....................
will that way work and still allow my Rom to work as well? I.won't notice a change?

None of the 2.1 ROMs has a 100% working GPS so far. All those "tricks" like rebooting with GPS turned on or reflashing the radio only work exactly one time. The next time GPS is turned off it's almost impossible to get a fix again.
If you want working GPS, go for a 1.5 ROM!
I've turned off use wireless networks, I've checked the GPS settings (Bionix rom has them set to default) and my GPS (using the test tool) can see 9-12 birds if I let it sit there for 30 seconds or so, but after 20 minutes of letting it sit, still doesn't lock on to ANY of them.
I'm using the stock kernel, gps used to lock (although unreliably) on the older build (whatever comes with stock...JFD I think?)

Try sending a message to team whiskey to see if they can help you. Did you install any other updates after installing the Bionix rom and also make sure you give the stable release with fixed GPS a try.
I'm on bionix 1.8, I was outside for 45 minutes and never got a lock.ridiculous.
You guys should re flash. I've ran both 1.8 and 1.9, both lock onto 10/11 sats and 20ft accuracy in less than 15 seconds.

Nope; it's a fresh install of Bionix 1.9. I was thinking of doing an ODIN back to stock and then reinstalling Bionix just in case there was some remnants of a GPS fix left on the device but I figured that would have all gotten wiped by the Bionix install.

Same issue here. I flashed back to JFD via Odin and still had the issue. I then upgraded to JI6 without making any real changes and still have the issue. I've been on Frankin-Twiz, and Bionix 1.8 and 1.9.1 and hadn't ever seen any improvement.
I take that back. I installed GPSTest and ran through a procedure where I cleared 'GPS Aiding Data' (or a similar name) and was finally able to get a fix after sitting and waiting for 10 mins or so. Immediately following, I was able to use Navigation for the 1st time with this phone. Unfortunately, it didn't stick.
If I have 'Use Wireless Networks' enabled under 'Location and Security' and open G-Maps as I sit at my house, it can find my location based on my wireless network's SSID. If I drive away at that point, GPS is able to track my location and Navigation does work.
However, if I open G-Maps while I'm already on the road, it cannot get a fix. Or, rather, it can't get a fix in a reasonable amount of time. I don't consider 10 mins reasonable since anything I'm trying to do which is location-sensitive is usually more urgent than not.
In short, this sucks.
^ exactly the same.
... I am now using the JI6 modem and my battery is dying twice as fast! Is this update really the only way to make the GPS work normally? Thanks!
EDIT: I should add I also tried deleting GPS data and changing the "secret" settings to fix it, to very little improvement.

If you are rooted and have clockworkmod recovery you may flash the JI2 modem.
You can find it on the Team Whiskey download page right under the Bionix Final ROM.

Hi,
I actually Flashed JI6 from them; I'm running Bionix Final that originally came with JI2. After I changed it I saw my sat strength increase substantially and I was able to get multiple satellite locks in seconds. I guess I will have to take the battery hit until Froyo comes out!
Thanks!
I'm still having problems with my GPS after installing Axura Rom 2.2.5.9. My GPS was working fine before this upgrade and I've tried all the fixes and it's not helping me. My GPS spotted 11 and 6 - 8 is in use using GPStest app but when I'm using navagation, it's always stuck on "getting driving direction" screen. I disable using wireless network and wifi. I don't think it's hardware issue because it was working fine before. I'm not sure if the newest version of Axura will help or should I reflash my rom? Please help!!
Disable data? This will not allow it to get the directions, hence your phone gets stuck at that screen.

I see you posted in the non hardware gps fix. What were you running that it worked so good? I think you need to go back to it or try reflashing what your on. Try a different rom maybe? Last try the hardware fix. A lot of ppl can't get their gps to work for crap no matter what. They send it in to samsung and all they do is reset it. No fix.

I did try GPS restore but no luck, the Nav still stuck on "finding driving directions" screen. I have no clue why is it doing that. I see 10 birds and locked onto 6 - 8 with good signal strengh and Google maps works flawlessly with an instant written direction within seconds.
This is my setting for my GPS
dial *#3214789650# into lbs
first choose:app setting

4:start mode
(Cold start)
5:GPS Plus
(ON)
6:

second choose supl/cp setting
1: FQDN type
(Custom Config)
2:

5:AGPS mode
(SUPL)
then back to home and reboot your device.
after it, get into lbs again
1.choose delete gps data
2.get position test
3.after located, change 1st "cold start" into "hot start".
completed.

hmm I'm just shooting in the dark here but try clearing the data in google maps by going to settings>applications and then reinstalling? if that doesn't work then flash CWM recovery and reflash the ROM after clearing the cache?
other than those ideas I got nothing, good luck

Press Delete GPS Data, this will get rid of the bad GPS information that is probably still stored in your phone.
Go to Application Settings and set the Start Mode to 'Cold Start'.
Reboot your phone and go outside, run an app like GPS Test and let it lock onto as many birds as it can, once you get a good number (at least 5),
go back into your LBSTestMode --> Application Settings and set the Start Mode back to 'Hot Start', reboot and all should be merry.

Any luck with the method described ?
Also you can use the Master's GPS fix (in the forum here in Dev section) or Try the GPS aid from the market free app. both work very well
