I am looking for a custom ROM that will work well with GPS and asat nav on the phone, hopefully google navigation.
Any that can be reconmended?
Also how do you install the radio on the phone?
Thanks
villain 5.4 works well with Google navigation.

I was just running 5,3 and it never found the GPS for some reason, it kept saying searching for GPS
what i did on villain was turn the gps on, restart the phone and just leave the gps on.
got a fix in 5 secs and really doesnt effect the battery much.
5.3 is really strange for GPS for me. When it finds my location it's great but often wont pick up where I am or thinks I am somewhere random.
GPS in Androbin beta r2 work good. I try it with google maps, ndrive and with "GPS test" app and no problem.
Sometimes I must wait for signal long time, but this is same as with original HTC ROM.
just installed sensehero 2.1 and finding that it wont get a fix on the GPS.
Is there a reason for this, or should i just leave it on and hope for the best?
just used soulehmoo's advice and it seemed to do the trick, but its on sensehero now. seems to work nice too. liking the background
I also tried aHero and sometimes i got a fix, but i never felt i was as good as when i had WM. Never tried a HTC so don't know how that worked
Villain 5.4 fixes a lot of GPS issues (have no problems any more)
if you have any problems (this goes for all 2.1 rom), do any of the following actions:
Reboot your phone with GPS on. Most of the times, this fixes everything
Reflash your radio ROM with GPS on when you shut down you phone to go into recovery mode
Radio doesn't need to be the latest version, latest version had connection and battery issues here (doesn't say you will have them also)
cool. thanks will try that, but how do I flash the radio? I'm pretty new to the flashing of ROMs.

same way you flash a rom. don't pull the battery, wait for it to reboot.
so i have to wipe the card and then put that on,flash it then reinstall a rom?

There's no need to wipe the card first or to reinstall the ROM afterwards. Also, iirc, the radio flashing actually takes place on the first reboot, not straight after you choose the recovery menu option to apply the update. You should be aware of this as a few people have been confused by it & done a battery pull in the middle of the update, with brick shaped results. As kendong2 says, don't pull the battery during the update procedure.
ah so i just put it on my SD card, and then click it like i would a rom, restaret the phone and let it do it?
I shall try that
Thanks
yes.....................
will that way work and still allow my Rom to work as well? I.won't notice a change?

None of the 2.1 ROMs has a 100% working GPS so far. All those "tricks" like rebooting with GPS turned on or reflashing the radio only work exactly one time. The next time GPS is turned off it's almost impossible to get a fix again.
If you want working GPS, go for a 1.5 ROM!
Hey friends.
I've tried any JK2 based rom out there (Macnut, obsidian etc')
I just can't get the gps to work.
properly, either it takes about 10 minutes to get a lock and then consistently looses the signal and have bad accuracy or it doesn't lock at all...
is there a solution?
thanks!
Have you tried to reflash? Did you start from a fresh JFD install (using ODIN)?
I know that seems to work for some people. Also, I'm going to assume that you're not running with a non-stock kernel or with a lagfix installed. Sometimes, one or both of those things will make the GPS stop working (why? I don't know).
My GPS rarely worked on JFD. Worked on JI2, slightly better than it work on JI6. On the 2.2 builds I also know from personal experience that it works on Obsidian, Onyx and Axura - at least on my phone.
I'll try to odin to stock and then flash a new rom
I hope it works...
thanks!

I found a great solution: Download Anycut and GPS Test if you don't already have them. After long pressing on an empty home screen, choose shortcuts, then Anycut. Scroll down to LBS Test Mode and put it on a home screen. Open it up, hit delete GPS data. Then go to application settings, change "hot start" to "cold start". Go outside, open up GPS Test, if everything is good you should see satellites in view immediately. Then, be patient, you should see the in use ones gradually increase. When you get a maximum number (whatever it may be), go back into LBS Test Mode and change back to "hot start" and you should be good to go.

My phone's GPS does not work properly with any ROM in the site that is based on JK2, but Macnut R10.
Try Macnut R10, do not try any other version,,, just R10, go to lbstest and delete your GPS data, and get back with your results...
The GPS was working very well with EC01 ROM and Radio and with nemesis2all's OTB-Reloaded Kernel (v1.1 from 4/20). I thought ED01 (ROM and Radio) would be nice to have and maybe slightly better. I followed adrynalyne's post to get ED01 (downgrading to DL09, EA28 update, ED01 update). That gave me ED01 Radio as well. I then applied nitroglycerine33's Evil Fascination v3.3.2, with nemesis2all's OTB-Reloaded Kernel (v1.1 from 4/20). However, the GPS is broken now. Is anyone else having this issue? I tried for over 5 minutes to get a lock and it just wouldn't from several different locations. I tried going back to an EC01 radio, but that didn't make any difference. Any suggestions?
Someone recommended the app gpsaids. This app works miracles for me. I use it stronger I loss a new run, use the app and tweak it and then it works flawlessly until I run a new rom our do a wipe. If you have not tried it is worth a shot. I know it's not working for everyone.

Did you check NTP?
Followed this thread from dev to cure my GP woes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038649
Improved under EC01 radio and SC 2.9.2, then EC01 radio and EF 3.1 (although noticed that the NTP wasn't changed in my EF 3.1 flash so I manually edited the gps file). Also good now with ED01 radio and EF 3.3.1 + Extras.
Maybe it's the weather
Did some unscientific testing after this post and noticed not too great GPS locking with ED01 radio + EF 3.3.1, but then again it's been overcast and/or raining pretty much all day here. YMMV...

I downloaded and tried gpsaids. It goes through the setup but fails at "Downloading XTRA". I tried the extensive test and it still fails, on 3G and Wifi.
Someone else mentioned that it could be the weather, it has been overcast around my area too, but it has cleared up now and it is still failing. Also, I already have the NTP server pointing to us.pool.ntp.org.
Will try downgrading back to EC01 and see if everything works.
I have Evil Fascination 3.3.2 and im getting a good lock outside after about 5 seconds. I also have GPS aids installed.

Can you please tell me what radio you are using?
I'm having issues also. The GPS fix won't help, mine just doesn't see satellites for 3-4 minutes. It will sit with 1-2 visible for several minutes, then "Poof", 8 in view with 9 in use. Most of the time. If I let Google Maps find a lock, it might never get one.
When I was on Superclean with DL09 I got a lock with GPS test in 15 seconds. If it wasn't such a pain to go back and forth I would flash back and see if it works again. With my luck my phone is broken, and the GPS radio just doesn't work.
I went back to EC01, with the EC01 radio. However, GPS is still broken. Don't know what is wrong now!
Edit: It's working now. I flashed ED01 again (Evil Fascination v3.3.2) with EC01 radio and applied GPSAids. GPS locks right away now! Thanks Legato525.

The automated progress always fails on mine too. After it tries, I go in and manually tell it to delete the lto and to download a new one, then out normally fires right up.

I have near instant lock with ota ED01 with only standalone GPS checked, that has never ever happened on any rom for me.

even on stock, my gps would lock, but show my position about 2000 meters away..sometimes even futher...running gpsadis or similiar fixed it.
Works perfectly on Superclean roms and ec01 radio..going to try on ed01..once ODIN files become available...
When I had axura 2.1, my gps was the best, but since I updated I havent even able to use maps without getting the rough estimate area from my network provider, in lbstestmode it says it locks on to satellites, but in google maps, I don't see anything. Is there anyway I can take the exact settings of the GPS from my previous ROM and apply it to my current ROM?
Edit: I think I broke the GPS after trying to apply multiple fixes, because now not even gps test will pick up that the gps is even on. Will reflashing KB1 restore it?

You didn't break your gps unless you tried the hardware fix and broke the tab.
Not sure of all the fixes you tried but here is a good thread.

Have you posted this question in the Axura thread?
Did you make a nandroid backup of use Axura 2.1?
Running OMFGB 1.2.0.
Whenever I attempt to use Navigation, GPS locates me like it should, navigation begins then GPS is lost and never reconnects. Appears I am not the only one with this issue. Two others posted in actual OMFGB development thread, but no responses.
I really enjoy this ROM, but need to get GPS to work correctly.
Any ideas???

There was a GPS bug located in CyanogenMod that has been fixed in all of the CM7 ROMs, as fas as I know. This was also an issue with the Froyo CM6 ROMs (and, I think, even the Conap's Eclair CM5 ELB.) See this post in the GSB thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11377484&highlight=gps#post11377484
Anyway, try one of the CM7 ROMs instead, if you do a lot of Navigation.
Yeah this is a problem with both omgb and omfgb. note that the gps signal is not lost, but the navigation app stops communicating. I prefer omgb over cm7 because the exchange mail actually works. Unfortunately, the developer of these roms is not as responsive as some other devs. If you haven't tried gsb, I would. Everything but exchange mail works.

Edit - I tested a bit more. Gps status does not lose fix, but navigation and maps do after 5 or so.

I ended up going back to CM7. I really liked the default load of OMFGB. Didnt have to tweak all the screens and settings, but oh well. I got CM7 almost where I want it.
Thanks!
3 Different ROM GPS not working
I tried 3 different ROMS for gingerbread OMGB, Condemned CM7 and GingerTaz 27 and in all of them I cant get google maps and Osmand to connect to satelitte. It keep losing GPS connection after 2 minutes and never been able to reconnect.
everytime I flash the rom I did full wipe (data, cache and dalvik).
Is there any gingerbread Rom that I can try which has the GPS problem corrected ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes, I'm on V3.3 and GPS worked flawlessly today...
...as for on performance. I am running it at 787Mhz/480Mhz ONDEMAND and seems to be ok.

Similar experience here with several GB rom (by Tazz, CS, Mac & OMGB/OMFGB - GPS would usually start & work - but if I start driving away in NAV (within Car Mode or standalone, even in Map mode) - it will announced "GPS Signal loss .... screen display Searching GPS, etc." & won't regain functionality - even if I were to pull over and use GPS Tool to reset/download fresh datasets. I gave up - been careful & spending time doing a full SD wipe, clearing cache data & dalvik and checking/verifying all the steps - all of the developers are working hard on solutions & resolve the issues.
GSB seemed to be most reliable, V3.3 was excellent as I used it last week on a 3 hour freeway road trip and it never once lost signal/navigation - used it alongside the old trusty Garmin unit. Grabbed & flashed the latest V3.4 GSB release and it's just as good, if not better, for other minor fixes - not running the Super Charger script, bumped Performance setting up one notch to 710/480 and Boot reset, JIT off and everything else default. Using moderate ATK setting only - and I'm getting very good results overall on this GB custom ROM. Very responsive & I'm not going to push the speed any higher as it is excellent in my scoring of this "EOL" device with zero trade-in value to VZW, LOL.
Let's keep in mind that all of these GB roms are basically all work in progress, not exactly "Final Release" but seemed to be getting close to being declared a "finished product" ready for prime time, but GSB is my "biased" preference as a daily rom over the others.
