use Axura 2.1 settings on Axura 2.3.1.3? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I had axura 2.1, my gps was the best, but since I updated I havent even able to use maps without getting the rough estimate area from my network provider, in lbstestmode it says it locks on to satellites, but in google maps, I don't see anything. Is there anyway I can take the exact settings of the GPS from my previous ROM and apply it to my current ROM?
Edit: I think I broke the GPS after trying to apply multiple fixes, because now not even gps test will pick up that the gps is even on. Will reflashing KB1 restore it?

You didn't break your gps unless you tried the hardware fix and broke the tab.
Not sure of all the fixes you tried but here is a good thread.

Have you posted this question in the Axura thread?
Did you make a nandroid backup of use Axura 2.1?

[Q] My GPS works perfectly now, but...

... I am now using the JI6 modem and my battery is dying twice as fast! Is this update really the only way to make the GPS work normally? Thanks!
EDIT: I should add I also tried deleting GPS data and changing the "secret" settings to fix it, to very little improvement.

If you are rooted and have clockworkmod recovery you may flash the JI2 modem.
You can find it on the Team Whiskey download page right under the Bionix Final ROM.

Hi,
I actually Flashed JI6 from them; I'm running Bionix Final that originally came with JI2. After I changed it I saw my sat strength increase substantially and I was able to get multiple satellite locks in seconds. I guess I will have to take the battery hit until Froyo comes out!
Thanks!

[Q] EB01 - My GPS isn't working, it won't lock on at all.

My GPS isn't working, it won't lock on at all. Anybody else experiencing something like this? If so, do you know a fix?
SOLUTION (Worked for me):

Mine did the same thing after flashing EB01 so I checked the location & security settings and found that both VZW and google location services were turned off. After turning them back on I got a lock in Gps test in less than 10 seconds.

I tried that, didn't seem to do anything.
Did you try removing the battery? Do that, and leave it out for about 1 minute. Let it reboot and see what happens.

Mine did that today. I rebooted and I was able to get immediate GPS lock after that.

That's what did it for me. It seems stand alone GPS by itself doesn't cut it anymore.

That did the trick for me as well.
I had GPS issues with EB01 too - I narrowed it down to: if I rebooted with GPS turned OFF it would never get a GPS signal if I turned on via the notification bar. If I went into Settings-->Location & Security and checked "standalone GPS services" and accepted the warning GPS then worked great, locked immediately. But if I turned it off and rebooted again the same issue would occur. I tested this with SC 2.1, SC 2.2, and the stock EB01 ROM. Same behavior every time.
It also seemed like if the phone sat overnight (no reboot) and the GPS was off it would then not see any sats until I went into Loc&Sec again and checked the box there, but I didn't do extensive testing on that.
I never keep my GPS on unless I need it, so this was a deal breaker for me, back to DL09 until the next Froyo build comes out.

That sounds more like a confusion from the DL09 to EB01. Did you wipe your data?
yes, wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache twice each before installing each ROM I tested. Consistent across all three.
Im seeing a decrease after installing the voodoo kernel for eb01. I turned on all 3 gps providers and rebooted and it was a little better. Im just gonna give it time to work itself out.

Thanks for your response. I recently rooted and went to EB01 SC2.2 and have been experiencing GPS issues, and started to try to figure out what makes it glitch so I can have some consistency. Have you found out anything new, or just waiting for next update?
I've noticed that I can only get a gps lock with vzw and goggle location services turned on along with the standalone gps. After rebooting, I have to go into the location settings screen and manually turn on the standalone gps if it was off already (or click it off and then on again). After that my GPS works pretty well.
What I have noticed is now all of a sudden Google Navigation will occasionally say "GPS Signal Lost" while I'm driving which never seemed to happen before prior to DL30/EB01. If I open GPS Status immediately after I hear that, half the time it's still connected to several satellites so I don't really know what the issue is there.

No, I gave up on EB01 until the next formal update/leak is released. Between that GPS issue and the battery life seeming significantly worse in my SHORT trial of EB01 I decided to go back to DL09 and wait.

Interesting, thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one who has had this same issue. Most people have just dismissed what I've reported without trying it saying "EB01 is the b3st w1nnar why do you turn off your gps that's st00pid".

Its the unfortunate way AGPS works. You can download GPS status & toolbox from the market. This will (upon startup) connect and download the most recent orbital GPS data providing a fast lock.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Two quick notes:
1) If you are running SuperClean, the VZW location services setting does absolutely nothing. It is only used by Verizon apps (i.e. VZ Navigator). Google Maps is not able to use the information obtained by VZW AGPS. The entire service has been removed from the ROM.
2) The dropdown gps button is virtually worthless right now unless you leave google location services enabled all the time. There are multiple ways to turn on the GPS through the OS code, and the current implementation causes GPS lock to take nearly a minute longer than if you were to go into the Settings menu and turn it on. At some point, someone will probably mod the drop down to emulate the same method as the settings menu.
That being said, from inside my house, with all my AGPS data cleared, on a freshly cleaned and flashed phone, I can get a fix in less than 3 seconds, accurate to 20 meters without having location services turned on, using only standalone GPS data. The trick is to turn it on from the Settings menu, not the dropdown.

[Q] Google Nav Stuck at "Searching for GPS...", but GPS locks fine

My google Nav App finds my location fine, I can click into the Turn by Turn directions and read them, but it will not go into the Voice Commands. I have gone back to DL09 stock, ED01 stock, and tried Community Rom 1.2/1.3. Tried the EC01 radio and ED01 radio. Tried the PeanutButtaTime and OTB kernals, no change. GPS locks on everything else just fine. The research that I have done seems it is related to the TTS Service, but that is not frozen through Titanium Backup. When I was on ED01 stock I tried using VZNav and that worked fine. Foursquare locks on my location fine, so I don't think it is a GPS issue. Even installed the 5.0 APK version of Google Maps. Uninstalled Google Maps back to 5.3.0.
Running Evil Fascination 3.5.1 on EC01. Google Maps v 5.4.0.
Any Ideas?

It only finds your location to an extended area. The directions you can read will always come up whether you have a gps lock or not. It knows your "general" area, and gives directions based on that. But 0/view 0/use means you have no lock on your gps.

Gps Problems

Hi, I bought a Motorola Atrix in Amazon 2 months ago. Since start the Gps din't work at all, 0 in view in apps like "Gps test". I tried almost everything: changing gps.conf, flashing radios, using custom roms like Nottachtrix and CM7, and reverting back to stock via rsd. Btw, a friend of mine who bought the same phone at the same time, had problems with gps in stock rom, but after flashing CM7, it worked just fine.
So, I ask you to help me giving any ideas to fix this.
Maybe this can be useful: The Atrix came with Italian retail rom and N_01.100.00R radio.
Thanks a lot.
PS: Sorry if I don't write quite well, I'm not an english natural speaker.

If you use an app such as GPS status do you pick up any satellites? It seems to be a common problem to find the satellites but not to be able to get a lock.
Also is you install GPS Status it will allow you to update the agps files.
Did you try gps lock with data access enabled? And as eddhard said do you pick any satellites?
In the gps settings menu turn OFF the options to use mobile networks or wifi. Then use the gps status or gps test app outside in a clear view for a minute or two. If it reports an accuracy distance as 0 or an error there is an issue with your gps that I might have a solution for.
For no reason my gps straight up failed to get a lock. In the test apps, it would see 9-10 satellites with strong signal but never wanted to get a lock. Multiple multiple factory resets, formats, any other variable I tried to change and the issue persisted.
I've attached the file that fixed the issue for me. Extract the libnmea.so and place it in your /system/lib folder after you make a backup of the existing file. Let us know if that helps.

Thanks for your answers, the problem isn't the locking of any of the sats. Test apps show "0 in view" even on outdoors.
I don't have a solution. But I've had a lot of difficulty with GPS on my Atrix as well. I can get a lock usually after a minute or so, but then the GPS would go to sleep. So if I'm moving or logging a route, it'll show me where I started even after several minutes. I flashed radios, updated gps conf, and used GPS Status & Toolbox to get a lock. Still no improvement. It helped me get the initial lock, and didn't resolve the freezing issue. I eventually gave up and bought separate GPS. So I'd be interested to know if you find a way to fix this.
Guys, if you don't see any satellites in GPS Status app, maybe is hardware issue. If you have warranty, use it. If you don't, try to disassemble your phone and look. Maybe just cable is disconnected or has bad contact. Of course be very careful with disassembling or ask someone with experiences. Youtube guide how to change digitizer on Atrix could be useful.
Good luck
I had problems with GPS fix on AT&T atrix 4g with N_01.100.00R europe radio. After flashing 37p at&t radio gps works perfectly, fix is really fast.
Also WiFi signal strength increased.

[Q] Cannot get a GPS lock

Just got my phone back from mobile tech..immediately unlocked, flashed a recovery and threw on viper 1.3.0 with elkays 096 kernel.
Everything runs great but I cannot get a GPS lock in Google maps ever.
I have downloaded a couple GPS test apps and I'll get 8/11 or 10/12 satellites and it gets ever so close to getting a lock in maps but never does.
Any ideas? Could the JTAG have "fried" the GPS?
Or should I try a stock Rom and kernel and see the behavior there?
I drive way too much to not have an accurate GPS lock on my phone.
Any ideas or help is much appreciated in advance.

Apparently Google is having some problem with location services across multiple devices. I really cannot wait for this to be resolved as it is somewhat of a safety hazard, and my friend just lost his phone and cannot locate it due to this issue.
I can't get a lock either in any apps. Any suggestions?

Same here had mine Jtaged and now no locks i see 0/19 sats but will not lock on Stock or Custom Roms.
There is some problem with the new version of google maps. Last night I used it to navigate me to my daughter's friend's house and it totally navigated me to the wrong place a few blocks away, even though it showed the correct destination on the map. It was really odd. I hope they fix it because I liked their navigation program before that last major update.
Regarding the GPS, try an app called "GPS Test" from play store. It will show all the satellites and will tell you how accurate your lock is. Make sure you run this when you are out side with clear view of the sky for optimum testing. Also I would try a stock rom for testing too. I know the aosp roms had some gps issues early on. Make sure your radios are updated too. Radios need to be updated separately from roms. I think there was a gps update in one of those radios updates, but I am not positive on that. Good luck.
