GPS Rebooting Phone When Warm - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone else is having an issue with their GPS restarting the phone once the temperature reaches >45c. It's been happening to me constantly lately, so I tried to flash all kinds of different roms to see if something wrong with the phone's software, and it still happens on any GPS enabled app.
I did some searching and I read that one guy claimed SE released a batch of X10s with faulty motherboards which would cause this problem, so I was wondering if this is true.
If you guys want to test out your phone to see if it has this problem too, you can open up Google Earth and test out your GPS in there. Earth is pretty CPU intensive, so it should bring up the temp rather quickly. My phone will usually reboot once it hits 46c-47c.

[Q] Will your vibrant easily get hanged/not responding

I am from Hong Kong, using vibrant.
I found that my vibrant will get easily hanged/not responding, occasionally.
No matter which rom I flashed, stock, roms from eugene. (Applied/not Applied lagfix)
When my vibrant is not responding, the back of vibrant near the camara or next to the camara, will get hot and hotter.
After a long press of the power button, for a hard reboot of the vibrant, the vibrant will be fine again. However, the situation repeat.
So, I want to figure out that is there anybody encountering the same situation.
Thanks.
I have not had this exact problem, but I have had mine randomly go black. It's done it 3 times in the 4 days I have had it. When it goes black, you can't turn it on, power does nothing, and you have to pull the battery to start it again. I have never let it sit long enough to see if it gets hot.
I have heard mixed thoughts, some people claim it's hardware problem, some say its a firmware problem =/
I've seen my screen turn black with just the key backlights remain on. The device becomes and remains hot to the touch as if working very hard (drawing heavily on the battery and CPU) but it never responds again. Holding down the power button for a full five seconds resets it.
In my case, I typically see this happen while I'm trying to use Google Navigate (GPS) while also running Pandora (streaming radio) in the background. Often it works, but often it doesn't, especially on days with warm weather. I've monitored battery temperatures around 114 degrees F after rebooting.
I suspect it is related to the problems with the GPS (fixed to use supl.google.com) and very much hope it will be fixed with the promised OTA upgrade. Although I may have seen it a few times (very few times) without GPS. My other suspicion turns toward a process called mmcqd which seems to run heavily at times. Perhaps the lagfix will help with this "Multimedia Card Queue Daemon" process. ::shrug::
Just offering this as notes to compare. I'm curious if others see the problem with GPS disabled? Or if you notice the mmcqd process maxing your CPU?
I've noticed that when using GPS, only when the GPS gets confused.. say for instance that I'm driving, get out of my car with a Navi program still running and walk inside of a building/house.. bam, phone is dead with the buttons lit.. I've decided to not bother with GPS.
If you're having those types of issues try avoiding background sync with the forever sluggish stock eMail app, and don't load up the internal memory with a lot of junk.
having the same prob... cant find the solution .. do u have any?
This happens to me on my stock vibrant everytime I try to use the maps program. On the off chance I get it to start working, as soon as it shifts orientation to landscape mode the whole thing will lock up. Usually I have to remove the battery to get it to reset. As was said, it appears to be caused by the faulty gps, so I usually just leave mine off.
However, I haven't noticed it happening while doing anything else and I'm hoping the upcoming ota update fixes these issues. (Don't want to bother with rooting stuff until I'm on stock 2.2)
The solution is to install the leaked update that we should be getting officially very soon. No freezing, no serious lag (installing apps will lag almost any Android device), no black screen freeze ups, much improved GPS, I'm lovin' it.
I installed Cyanogen Mod7 on samsung vibrant, after reboot the set not started, only samsung logo shows but not booted further, plz give the solution.

[Q] X10 shut off itself after heating up.

I would like to know if anyone have similar issue?
It wasn't as noticeable or i just can't remember if it does this before i updated with wolf cynomod 6.13 v4-v5 2-3 months ago on stock.
But lately, i found my phone shut off itself whenever it start heating up. I got a temperature measure app from market but it doesn't show me what exact temperature when it does this.
For example, after 5-10 min use of google earth, my phone will shut off and reboot.
Is there a way to fix this issue? or could this be an issue with my battery ?
It issue is heating because i have a plastic case with x10 in it, it would shut off 5 min after use with it and 10 min after use without it.
Sorry if another topic like this existed, i did a search and couldn't find any. Maybe i just got the wrong keywords.
yeah i experience the same issue ever since official 2.1 update came out. Figured it was just the phone called SE and they said its not Software issue but a Hardware issue and send it in with Proof of purchase.
My batter does heat up specially when im playing games and have it charging.
i read something about faulty the motherboard on some X10's.
Im never tried to replace the battery if u wanna give it a try and let us know if that helped you or not.
mine has restarted with no WLOD it's just weird but still no overheating
I changed my charger from Stock to the universal SE charger. Then I never faced any battery heating issues
I had the same issue with my Xperia X10. I had bought it from random guy without warranty. But i had luck that guy wasnt bad, and he came after 1 hour i called him, and gave me a new one Xperia. Now when i play 3D graphic games, it heat as hell , but never restart , if u have warranty go to SE and tell them about your problem , they should replace your motherboard and it should work good . Good luck in solving this problem. ( And sorry for my bad english )
I think it is a issue with the battery being able to deliver enough power on some devices. Mine has a tendency to restart when moving around, especially with wifi and GPS enabled. When I leave work, where we have a company wifi, the phone often turns off around the point when I pass out of the coverage area if I have wifi enabled. Wifi off is never a problem. I would expect that if it lost connection, it would try to send at full power to connect to another source.
This never happens if I drive, and plug it into my car charger. Therefor I think it might be the battery that is not able to power my GPS wifi and bluetooth at the same time...
This is a battery issue. Mine never had a problem but my friend's phone would heat up like that and shut down. Replaced the battery and all is good.

[Q] Phone keeps turning off

I've had my phone for a few months now and up until recently it had no issues. It's unlocked but not s-off and I had been running cyanogenmod 10.1. When the 10.2 nightlies came out I began using them and until around 9/15 these worked great. I didn't suffer from the flickering or radio issues at all. Around that time I started noticing that my phone would occasionally shut off on its own. I thought that it was an overheating issue at first but as the problem worsened it became clear that it would happen cold. It's now at the point where it predictably happens within a minute of the phone being on, leaving the phone essentially useless. I've tried narrowing the CPU frequency range and going back to the stock ROM, neither of which has resolved the problem. Investigating logcat and bugreport didn't reveal any hints to me as to what was happening. I'm worried that it's a hardware issue but recovery and bootloader seem to be able to stay on indefinitely which gives me some hope. Does anybody have some input on additional things that I could try?

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that it's not a battery issue. The same thing happens when it's plugged into a charger and the phone will stay on in recovery regardless of me moving it around or letting it sit for long periods of time.
I have noticed something new though. If I don't enter my Google account information (doing so starts app syncing) then the phone is much more stable. It seems that I can do a simple task like turning on wireless tethering and then if I don't do anything else the phone will be stay on for hours. If I open the browser, the play store, or start moving icons around then I only have a minute or two before it will shutdown.

Updating to a newer 10.2 nightly might fix the problem. Otherwise get the last_kmsg file when it shuts down next time and post it here. Someone might be able to diagnose the problem.

Thanks for the input. I'll give a newer 10.2 nightly a shot but I am seeing the issue on builds that had previously worked fine (stock and 10.1). I have no /proc/last_kmsg after an unplanned shutdown. Based on what I'm reading this might mean that it's locking up before there's a kernel panic?
two options

[Q] TF201 random reboots, only when being used.

I just picked up a Prime for $50. The guy said "sometimes it reboots itself". I knew I had heard of it before so $50 didn't bother me. I picked it up and when I got home I noticed it was bent. I Thought maybe that was causing something to short so I opened it up and straightened it (mostly as best I could) and it seemed to boot faster but still reboots randomly but only if it's being used. Never reboots while sleeping. Sometimes it hangs and I have to force it, other times it has no WiFi on the reboot and I have to reboot or again. I tried the double factory reset thing I read somewhere but it did a random reboot during initial setup with no apps on it not even connected to WiFi yet. Did I get a bad one? Any other way to fix it? No dock, no micro SD card in it, says there are no updates for it. It sat perfectly fine for 6 hours with no reboots without being used and as soon as I opened the play store it rebooted. Happens with our without being held so I'm fairly certain it isn't a short. Everything looked fine inside when I had it open. Help?

Go to settings and post the device info and kernel info for the tablet please (screenshot the whole screen will probably be easier).
It might be running a custom kernel and the voltages might be too low for your specific machine.
Tablet isn't really reliable enough to be used that long so I just took a picture. Sorry it's sideways, we all know how iPhones work lol.

That is the last official firmware and kernel that Asus released for the TF201 so it is not a custom kernel causing it.
At this point it might be worth you trying to flash a custom rom to see if it makes it any better because you don't really have anything to lose.
Another option is to sell it on ebay for the screen. You will more than likely get your money back off someone who just needs that part.
You thinking it's more software related? Would it make it through the flashing process without bricking?
It has to be software related I think. I was just able to run a full antutu benchmark with no reboots. There may be a more strenuous hardware test but I don't know what it is. I just figured I'd try to make it so the hardest thing I could think of and see how it went. I did leave it on a charger for about 20 hours or so. Wondering if maybe the battery could be an issue?
Edit: Open the Play Store, hit update all, accept all permissions, then it reboots. Seems most common when using Play Store or YouTube.
If it makes any difference if I turn in the tablets "performance mode" it reboots WAY less often. Could the battery be too weak? Idk Jay spitballing here.

Weird issue (Stock P8000)

Alright, been helping out a friend with his P80000, some background incase that helps to figure this one out, the phone had a battery drain problem where it could say it was at 70% then drain rapidly, seemed to work with trying to use the battery calibration apps so far so yet (He mentioned it happened often so it seemed like it got improved) then the phone didn't keep itself properly connected to the WifI (disconnected multiple times) seemed to solve it by just setting the phone to a static IP.
Now a new problem has been born that ive never personally experienced nor heard. He was charging the phone the whole day, but it stayed at 37%. So he restarted the phone which lead to him not being able to press any of the apps that he had. He uninstalled and reinstalled the apps but when he tried to use the reinstalled apps it just directed him back to play store. He restarted it again and it didnt work, restarted another time and this time it worked, so far.
Any of ya boys have gone through anything similar to this? I mean it seems clear that the battery probably is whacked and the software is not feeling that good anymore, but I'm curious what the cause of this is, is it just a rare software problem or have I been outside too much.
