so in the new web based android market it know I have a device with market running, but doesn't know what it is. I can edit the name but none of the other settings. I tried to load tv.com and it would not let me select it from the pull down of devices on my account. I assume this is because we had to do the workaround to get market on the Archos, but wasn't sure if there was anything to do for the new web market place?
I am running Stock Archos software if that makes a difference.
Some items are protected, some aren't. If an item is protected our devices will be greyed out in the drop down list because the firmware isn't on googles accepted list.
I might give this (more here) a whirl a little later on, see if I can get access to them, but I don't know how successful it will be.
(EDIT - the suggestions that I linked to above will need to be done in dev mode. More than likely within UrukDroid as you need to have root and read/write access to /system)
Yes, it's definitly the "protected"-problem
I tried to install "GUN BROS" but I couldn't so I started the market app on my A101IT and searched for it: no results. So I think this is a protected app/game.
I tried again with an app I know it's unprotected (because I installed it previously using the market app and removed it again) and it's working!
gun bros
Hello,
for finding gun bros again, u have to uninstall market update...
make this clear, in aplication mynager where u usually do the "market fix"
u can uninstall market. but not the whole market, if u got an update for the market u can uninstall and use the old version. depends on which version u installed. there are several ways and versions.
the market fix did not find gun bros any more, but the uninstall update did it for me. even after getting the update again, i can still find gun bros. dunno why.
i had the version with arctools 0.43 or 034. dont know there is a new one out. and i dont know what it downloads (package) so if u can klick on "uninstall update" where usually stands just "uninstall" then it might help u.
ps: gun bros got an update to 1.3.0 it FC . so no gun bros at the moment. installed or not....
i hope i could explain goog enough what i mean.
greets from germany.
how to gain access to the protected apps
if you want to download a protected app just first get an market place if you dont have one:
I recommend arc tools from apps lib here
then just very easily root your archos device using archangels method is the easiest way here
after you get root download market enabler for free from the market and use it to enable tmobile usa market place

Didn't work for me. Still missing apps like Tank Hero. Also, causing my settings to force close, so I can't clear my market apps cache.
Have you tested this on an Archos device? Is it working for you?

Ok. I bought this G Tab knowing that I would have to install ROMs, tweak .prop files, NVFlash, CWM, RootExplorer, etc. No problem there.
But now I have had it with this new Market. Many (if not most) applications are showing as incompatible with my tablet even though I already installed them. My beloved Word With Friends now requires an update, but I can not install it from the Market as the new Market believes the app is incompatible with my ROM. That is the last draw as I cannot play it anymore.
So does anybody have a market.zip that has Market 2.3.6 so I can go back to the old market? I have the .apk files but I think I need something that could install via CWM (BL 1.2) since all the apks do not work if you install them by themselves (they all FC). I would freeze market updater so it does not upgrade again to 3.x.
Thanks

Installed the GAPPS and it did not install the market. Tried uninstalling Market and Market updater first and still no go.
It looks like something is blocking the old market from being installed. I extracted it and installed it myself but it then FC everytime it started.
Very frustrating. This is the kind of crap that is going to kill android. It just looks like Google is purposedly trying to lock out aftermarket ROMs from accessing Market apps.
This happens to me frequently. The solution Ive found is to stop the market and clear data. After this is done, launch the market and youll no longer get the error. Sometimes Ill have to do this 3-4 times a day. Good luck.
Interestingly enough, I think I got a workaround. Through some investigation, I found out that the problem was that many apps were being filtered because of the screen resolution. So I started working with the density property in the build.prop to find out if there was a magic number that will make things work like they used to. It appears that I did find that number and it is 160.
So I updated the build.prop line with Root Explorer:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
After that I cleared the Market app data and the Google Services Framework data. Rebooted and everything that was previously installed seems to be recognized and the applications started updating again.
Downloaded an apk pack from the interweb and installed a few apps.
Loaded it up via pc and then clicked on file and it installed. When I go into the market its saying I don't have this app installed? I also installed a game and under settings this appears but not the app?
Is there a way of updating this app as cannot update it via market ? Tried the non paid version of Titanium back up but no use. From searching read Trackdog app. maybe able to do this. Anyone confirm
Is there a way or is the market such it wont let it update?
I was gonna ask same question
I don't think there's any solution for what you are asking. But you can try this: install AppBrain App Market from the market. This app will show all your installed apps, no matter if you installed them straight from the market or other sources. There's an option to sync the apps with AppBrain and if a newer version of your installed apps comes out on the market it will prompt you to update. Obviously, you won't be able to update the apps straight from the market (if they were installed from other sources), but at least you will know there's a new version of the app in the market and then you can try to get the new version from alternate sources. I use this app for Google Plus and some other apps from the market which are not available for my country. This isn't a solution, merely an intermediate step to find out if your apps need to be updated I think Trackdog does exactly the same thing as AppBrain.
My Streak was working fine. It has 2.2.2 Froyo OS. Today itself I tried to install an application. The application showed Starting Installation. But the application install never happens. I am not able to install apps from the Android Market. For the same I did a factory reset and the hard reset. But nothing worked. Still facing the same issue. Please help.
Try going to settings/applications/manage applications/ scroll to and select market. Tap uninstall updates, and clear cache then give it a try.

Don't know what happened. But the problem disappeared today and I am able to download the apps now from market without any issues. Although all my game progresses are lost since I did a hard reset

Any way to get around carrier restrictions? both in the market and out? Example: during early netflix apk version releases posted here, I couldnt install from using the stock browser. But when I use dolphin, I was able to download/install.
Now, looking for a way to install carrier restricted apps in the android market.

Sometimes removing your SIM card and accessing the market over WiFi will allow you to see more apps in the Market.
Any app that you can DL the APK for can be loaded by checking the unknown sources box in the application settings.
Changing the fingerprint can make many more apps show up.
The stock browser may not download some file types and you have found the easiest solution - use a different browser.
my mom bought a $200 tablet from some no name company named linsay. It's model is a Cosmos F-10HD. It's an all right little tablet but it comes without the play store. When I try simply installing the play store apk it works for a while until i try to actually get an app but then it crashes and i can no longer open the store. I think this may be due to read write permissions but I don't think I can modify those without root access. So is there some way to get the play store working properly on this tablet without root access? And if not is there some way I can root this device and then install it? Thanks a lot for your help
Try searching for the guide to install the Play Store on Kindle Fire. Perhaps the same method will suffice?

Try This
first try clearing the application data and cache...if that didnt work...download the latest play store apk....install it using an app called Easy Installer...
Don't expect too much from that chinese tablet! I had a Haipad MID-701 - for now, fortunately, i sold it, huhh.. - with google play (at that later times it was called market not play, but it doesnt matter i think. just for be correct). I tried several ways to get it work, did tons of ggle searches, but i get no information how to make it work. I could start the download and install process trhough the market, but after 0,5 sec i touched the dl and setup button in the market said that dl was unsucessfull.
try installing the old version first, the android MARKET APK, then i think it will automatically upgrade to the playstore version
I believe you need to push the APK to the /system/app folder and also have the google service framework apk and push it to the system/app folder if it isnt there already.
Google doesn't want unapproved devices using the play store. That's why you can't get it on the iPhones idroid. I'd go and get Amazon App store.

Even Kindle doesn't come with the Play Store. But there have been numerous guides in circulation as to how to install it. Google it and use the same procedure. Cheers!
You're right, but the kindle has CM7, making it a Google supported device.

Linsay f-10hd
I bought the same tablet, It actually works well. Unfortunately, you cannot root it nor download the play store. What I did is I have android phones. I downloaded the apps I wanted on the tablet, through my phone, mounted the phone, and copied the apps onto an sd card or flash drive and installed it that way. Worked out real nice.
Strange
My parents bought me the same tablet, although it came installed with Google play, and to top it off it came rooted. It came three days ago and discovered root access about 1 hour ago. I did not even attempt to root but, if life gives you lemon, you make lemonade.
I have the new linsay 7" with 4.1.2 on order, some have said that it is rooted out of the box. Could very well be as a lot of these cheaper tablets are. If so then all you would need is SuperSu and Busybox to have root permissions. Will let you know as mine should be here on 2/08/2013. It also should have play on it but the 4.0.3 did not..

Try to flash G apps package again through recovery

Linsay Cosmos F-7HD 4.1.1
Ok tablet got here early, it is a Linsay Cosmos F-7HD 4.1.1. Has all Gapps factory and a 2.0 single core Cortex A-9 Ghz processor 512 ram and 4G. Flash drive with only 1.98G free. Sears for $99.00, not bad for the price as it seems to work well after a couple hours of playing with it. Has micro scard slot and storage is listed in settings as Internal and Micro sdcard as SD CARD, also in settings>Apps it does let you move apps to sdcard if the app can work from sdcard. It doesn't seem to be rooted out of the box, I installed superuser and updated su file but doesn't give user permissions and sometimes I run update su and get failed. Will have to see what can be done about rooting, I don't need it for Gapps but would like to change mounts in vold.stab as it look able to change so everything installs directly on sdcard as Internal. If anyone has an idea on gaining root let me know.

You might want to try 1Mobile Market from Cnet, it has all the same apks as Play and way more than Amazon. Also on the cheaper tablets, it will let you install apks that Play won't. That should get you by till someone comes up with root and gapps for your device.

Hi there
I hope someone can help me or give me a pointer. The short story is that Google Play has reverted to the Android Market (v2.3.4) and I can't download anything from the Market.
The longer story is this...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, bought sim-free over a year ago, running Android 2.3.3. Yesterday I had a problem with Google Play not being able to download some apps. This was clearly wrong: I had 1.5GB free of 16GB. In the course of trying to fix this (ha!), and trying to find recovery mode, I borked the device further. Google Play reverted to Android Market v2.3.4, and some apps got messed up in random ways and consistently crashed. I uninstalled some of the crashing apps, but I still cannot download anything from the Market in order to reinstall them.
I've cleared cache and cleared data for various apps and services: Market, Download Manager, Google Play Services (odd that that's still there), Google Services Framework, and maybe some others.
The problem with the Market is that when I touch to download an app it readies itself for the download (moving diagonal lines on the progress bar) and then the progress bar disappears as if it's finished. There is no download, and certainly no install, but no error message either. On the other hand my web-based Google Play account says I've just downloaded it. And meanwhile my web-based Google Play account says there are no devices associated with my account.
Given the situation with Market, I can't even download something like MarketFixer which may help. I can sideload apks, but I can't find a (legitimate-looking) apk like MarketFixer to download.
I've never rooted my device, so I don't expect to have to do that to fix this. Before do a factory reset, does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks
Nik
Update: Solved in thread below
ah darn!! i thought i could help you, up until the point where you said you didn't root . If you rooted then you could just install the latest version of google play

Thanks for even thinking of that, dragid10.
Hmm... theoretically, if I routed, where would I get the latest version of Google Play from? I can't access the Market, after all.
There are a few threads in the apps forum here on XDA one is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932489
I also don't think you need to be rooted to install it. Just make sure you turn on unknown sources from settings(either under applications or security)
Also have you tried uninstalling updates for the market or removing your Google account from your phone and re-adding it.
Edit:Updated thread URL original one was a closed thread.

nsmith4, thank you. That's moved me a bit forward. I couldn't find a Google Play apk, and now I've got Google Play back on my device, and the web version of Google Play knows about my device again.
(I did try to delete my Google account and it refused me. It said it was needed by some applications and should do a factory reset instead!)
So now it seems I'm back to my original problem: I (still) can't download any apps from Google Play because it says (wrongly) there's insufficient space on device. I shall keep looking for an apk of MarketFixer or similar. This problem is now the same as the one reported here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436188
although of course I cannot download MarketFix to help me fix the market.
Update: That install of Google Play didn't stick. When I rebooted the phone it took me through the Android initiation process (asked for Google username and password) and Market was back in place of Play.
Looks like a problem with factory resetting every time you restart. That is a bigger problem. Google Play will automatically update itself (all update to com.android.vending will).
Try taking the ICS update (if you haven't already), you need a fresh install of the OS. Or you can root and install a ROM. Same thing

You say you "borked the device further". The question is, what happened? What did you do, and what got borked, in what way? If you don't even know, then it will be difficult or impossible to repair. The easiest and fastest solution will be to install a fresh ROM, like Gagdude said.

gagdude, post-mortem: No, I didn't keep a careful record of what I did. The "borking" is a combination of the problems listed above. I'm going to do a factory reset and upgrade to ICS, as suggested, thanks. Will keep you posted.
Mid-point update: Successfully factory reset my phone (Volume up + Power on, factory reset, then reboot). Now my SIM card isn't recognised (sigh).
The same problem, but with a different device, is here:

It appears as if my modem software is messed up. The saga continues.
