[Q] Voodoo - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I go up installing voodoo onto my Bionix-v? The official website says voodoo is already pre-installed with Bionix-v but the Voodoo control panel that I installed via the Market says I don't have it.

Hit power button and reboot into recovery and you should voodoo as an option and make sure it is enabled and it should convert when you reboot remember to disable when you flash something new

reboot into recovery when it reboot comes up (like you are going to install a rom, etc.) in that, menu is enable voodoo or disable voodoo, that is where you will find voodoo options. It is already on your phone. Most of the new roms use this because ext4 is a way faster file system

It is enabled but the Voodoo control panel doesn't recognize it being enabled...

You can root with one click lag fix but don't apply anything else from oclf just root with it it's the first box you'll see when you open the app Flash it up but make sure you don't have a lag fix running or you'll brick your phone
Constantly Drinking
And most roms have instructions posted in the op follow the instructions and you'll be fine

OCLF off of Marketplace
Select Root phone, follow instructions.
Install Rom Manager (Again Marketplace) open Rom manager, select the first option at the top "Flash clockwork recovery" this will allow you to make backups of your Rom in case of soft bricks, or bad installs.
give OCLF superuser access(will popup automatically when you select root)
I recommend using the Lagfix V2 option, select A size between 1-2GB (1024-2048MB)
I have done this with the JI6 OTA and both min and my Gf's phones.
I also recommend IF you plan on installing roms you have samsung drivers AND Odin installed on your PC with Ready access when you attempt any modification
under the development section of the forum is a post the has the Stock jfd and JI6 roms for our phones book mark it
if you plan on flashing froyo, i recommend Obsidian V3, or Onyx R3.1 (personal preference)

Read read Read. then play with those
Rom installs are really solid and easy to do without any for knowledge
there should be an installation bible somewhere i'll find it and post link

Obsidian uses Samsung Touchwiz as standard Launcher
Onyx uses Launcher Pro and has Touchwiz Removed from phone, other then that the roms are fairly similar in quality and stability
I have a paid version of Launcher pro so I prefer Onyx myself. if you like the default samsung launcher then go Obsidian.
screenshots are a slightly modified Onyx R3.1 to my liking. but you get a decent idea on what it looks like. standard dark theme. Black, with a brush metal look. on most menu's including the dialer standard.
oh yes and you flash these through Clockwork recovery, install on internal SD card, open Rom Manager and select "install Rom from SD Card"
i also Recommend you install titanium backup Free version from market.
open it allow superuser access
select "problems" on first boot to force install Busy box.
press menu button --> Batch --- > scroll down to Backup all user Apps + data
after that flash prefered ROM

run a Quadrant test. if you dont know what that is,search "quadrant" in market and download. after you run the test,if your results are in 900s, voodoo is not enabled. if your results are around 1500(can be 1400,1600 or 1700) then voodoo IS ENABLED. if your results are 2000+,then the ext2 lagfix from oclf is installed.

its the easiest way to tell.
navigate your sd card if you found voodoo folder then you have voodoo lagfix, to disable it create a file ( or folder i'm not sure) inside it and name it disable_lagfix then restart your phone and run quadrant, you should get score of 800~1000 just to be sure that the lagfix is disabled
Simple..go to market and install the voodoo toggle app from zenmaster. It shows if voodoo is ON or OFF on ur phone

Do some good research before you decide to make any changes. Although, I would suggest starting over from true stock via Odin. It doesn't matter if you have a lagfix or not, you can still put on a stock ROM and start from scratch. Make sure to repartition with odin. Hope this helps

Im kinda wary of that app. I downloaded it and I disabled voodoo thru cwr. After it rebooted I checked the app and said voodoo was still enabled. I have a.feeling it only gives a.correct reading if you turn voodoo off and.on thru the app.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
Hold power button. Recovery. Red screen should display once the phone is done booting up. Go down to voodoo lagfix with the volume keys. Power button to select it. It should voodoo enabled, enabled on next boot or something along those lines. You can disable it from there if you have it installed.

This is the only true method to see if Voodoo is enabled or not.
voodoo!! think Im going to reinstall it again. On axura I am benchmarking around 1100 -1200 or so.

or you can use the app Voodoo Toggle. This also helps enable/disable in addition to seeing if you have voodoo
I just ran the test and I benchmarked at 1482 :-D

Voodoo toggle says its not installed, but someone in the topic says this app isn't 100% correct. sorry if this is a stupid questions. please help this Vibrant noob, thanks.

How to use OCLF 2.2

How do I enable OCLF 2.2?
I'm running a Onyx (Froyo JK2) and want to use OCLF but it seems to be disabled.
Specifically, it says "You do not have a /system/bin/playlogos1" file.
How should I go about enabling the lagfix without bricking my phone or requiring ODIN?
Press Restore boot animation then apply the lag fix
Runnin nero+dow+oclf
Ok. Started installing. Stopped with an error. Can't mount loop. . . Sigh
Go to settings then application and manage applications then go to the sd tab and move them to internal storage

[Q] Voodoo ext4/ system conversion problem?

I’m using JT’s new kernel with Voodoo Sound, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010102 and Adrynalyn’s awesome SC2.9.1, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983395.
Everything was working fine until I DL’d JT’s kernel. It installed fine, so I DL’d Voodoo Control 0.10 from the market, used to enable and control Voodoo Sound. I checked the box titled: Ext4 /system (found under Lagfix preferences). After my next reboot, the conversion took place (I was already on Adryn’s EC10 Voodoo kernel previously) and my problems started.
Now my phone constantly freezes. For example, let's say I check email, while listening to music through Poweramp, the phone freezes (tested on multiple app combinations). I suspect that it has something to do with the system conversion to Voodoo since that's the only thing that's changed since last night when all was working fine. Is JT’s kernel not compatible with a system conversion to Voodoo, ie: partition only? Helpful suggestions will be much appreciated!

[Q] Voodoo partially installed (no Voodoo sound)

Here's an experience with rooting, lag fixes and voodoo (final item), in case this is useful for the various developers or others trying to use what the devs are producing....
Thank you to all the devs for so many choices - and some of the software needs error handling improvements
Okay, to start with while rooting device with Super1Click, there was an error (partition full) while "busybox" was being installed. SU worked, so i kept looking for stuff to fix the busybox install which was broken ("Seg faults" when trying any of the commands). "Busybox installer" from Market can install but no option to un-install. Ti Backup will go ahead and use its own included busybox...etc. Un-rooting via Super1Click did not even seem to remove the rooted-ness, let alone cleanup the broken busybox.
So now phone is running with a full /system partition and everyonce in a while it just freezes and only "hard" resetting (pullng out battery) can get it going again.
So I decided to delve further and maybe improve performance as I had read about on XDA (while poking around for the gTablet options). Decided to use TiBackup and save stuff first in case i mess up everything ( like i messed up avatar movie when i copied it off and back to SD card..). Of course, no busybox but thank yu Titanium for having the "problems" button and installing what you need elsewhere and working like software should. Okay now i have backups of everything done.
So now its rooted and backed up, so i try OCLF to get performance and of course ext2 tools & fix is not enabled because /system partition is full.
Back to cleaning up the "bloatware" (why cant the OEM/carrier make the partition bigger if they are going to add bloatware ?).
So after deleting a few things, now OCLF installs but fails towards the end - trying to 'mv ...playlogos1 to ...playlogosnow' (partition is read-only error) and does not 'catch' and undo itself like it generally does on other errors it runs into. Okay so now stuck with a partially completed OCLF and the menu system will not recognize the presence of fix and thus cant use the "undo" menu item.
But, thank you for another menu item which "restores" the old playogos file and suddenly lag fix can be undone...great, more reading on XDA, discover that Voodoo is the way to go, not unsupported OCLF.
btw - found the feature of sending off the logs on error pretty handy, i'm sure its not such a nice feature from your end unless you have an email filter setup for it.
Now to the topic of this post - OCLF undone, deleted OCLF ext2 partition file, fixed busybox by using busybox installer (no uninstall option available), read all the XDA threads...(nary a thread on /system partition full - doesn't anyone else run into this problem with all the stuff they do ?)
Downloaded SGS Kernel flasher, got Voodoo for Froyo KA6. Decided to go ahead and put clockwork mod and do a backup just in case...also saved kernel via SGS
Flashed Voodoo, great robot voice technique till it said "No space on parition" and 'abort' or something similar and finished booting (then i'd rather see a log brought up after the reboot is finished).
Downloaded "Voodoo Controls" from market and nice it can see that 3 partitions are converted, but /system is not BUT it says Voodoo sound is not supported by the kernel (so assume that was the stage to be done after the "abort" happened on system partition.
Deleted more system "wares" reluctantly, uncheck boxes in Voodoo control and reboot to remove ext4 conversion. check boxes and reboot and voila - now all 4 partitions are converted, but still sez no Voodoo sound supported kernel. ?? oops no sound fix stage executed if already installed...
Current Status:
Quadrant scores at 1436, not different than when only 3 partitions had been converted (941 on stock). Btw - Linpack scores haven't changed since it was stock (12.78~13.48).
Now sometimes it shows the cpu is running at 100Mhz or 400Mhz....used to always say 800Mhz when it was stock.
Voodoo Sound still not available in controls. /system is back to 1.6M free from 8.4M at height of removing bloatwares.
Next strategy:
Uncheck and convert back to RFS, then flash back saved original kernel using SGS (thank you for very nice program).
See about /system again - dont have anything left to remove though..wonder what has eaten up the space (clockwork mod ??)
Flash Voodoo kernel again and hopefully wll go through and get Voodoo sounds fixes this time OR just do Overstock+Voodoo ROM...
Anyone have suggestions / comments on the strategy i should pursue next ?
Main goal is to get a phone that wont freeze at random moments and secondary goal is to make it fast as the hardware allows it to go but staying close to stock software so the next update from T-mobile requires least (=no) effort.
Another ques - anyway that i can 'insitu' increase the /system partition size so i can put the bloatware back on and not have a partition that keeps going full when i fool around trying out different things...can it even be done in-situ that is?
