any advice or will the gtab running vegan rc1 7.0.0 kernel 2.6.32.41 not play .mp4 i have mobo player playing everting else so far any help is appreciated
Have you tried soft decoding? Long press on video and select soft decode. I haven't come across a video that Mobo couldn't play this way. Also Mobo has a codec pack which it should have prompted you to download at first start up.
movies are on my ext sd card..when i long press i get option for hard decoding no soft coding option,
bump ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,any ideas
I use Rock player and it plays mp4 files fine. maybe give that a try?
ok now i am able to get mobo player and rock player to play them but video is off and kinda slow mo like frame for frame but advancing quicker then if u were trying to play it in slow mo ,,,this is driving me crazy
any thoughts or a rom just as good that plays all video formats
Have you tried re-encoding the video with Handbrake? There are lots of settings in the forums that I've had great luck with.

beastlys plays almost all since theres full hw accelaration
Hello there, I am going on a two week holiday, and want to watch a movie or two on my phone, the files are about 700mb, file formats are .avi and .mp4 .... whats the best player to play these smoothly???
I've found QQPlayer gets the best performance on my hero.
Moboplayer .....
I Think moboplayer is Best .....
Sometimes, the players are only playing videos correctly incoded for your device.
As an example, with Mobo Player(that I found really great) I can't play any .avi video correctly, it freezes all the time, ...
But with .mp4 format I have no problem...
Moreover, some encoded mp4 videos have some video bitrates that are too high, and the player can't decode it...
So, as for me you should try to re-encode instead of trying to find the best player.
The player is only UI about, so it depends on the things you're looking for
I've tried a few different players, and most of them work really poorly on the Hero. RockPlayer plays everything I've tried, but the FPS is usually low, and the audio keeps getting out of sync. QQPlayer didn't play the clips i wanted to, so i can't say for that.
The best playback I've seen was with yxplayer. There were a lot of small artifacts, but the fps and audio was ok. The UI is pretty lousy though.
The simplest option IMO is to convert video beforehand, so it plays fine with the native hardware acceleration.
Okay guys, I don't know how many of u came from an epic to photon, but for those of u that did, I'm sure u noticed the stock video player sucks. If there anyway we could add the ability to play mkv files or any other format? The video plays but there's no sound....any ideas?
sent from my photon
I've been using MX Video Player from the market lately. It seems to support a lot of formats that the stock player does not.
Hi, first time android owner so just figuring things out. I downloaded mobo player and it works great and it allows me to play different video formats. I end up downloading movies and tv shows in flv format and copy them to my phone and it wokrs great. The built in player would not allow me to play them. I believe Mobo claime to play all video formats.
Try it out and let us know. And btw...sorry but i don't know what an mkv file is. I will google it though...peaceout!
thanks for the suggestions guys, i was looking to just stick to the stock video player, but i don't think that's gonna happen, mkv is just another file type, just like avi, mp4, just another video type. I downloaded Vplayer and that works fine for all video types, I just hate having multiple apps for one thing....I guess maybe i just got used to the epic stock video player. Well anyway thanks again, in case anyone else needs a suggestion on video players, Vplayer is good, but not a freeware. If you don't mind supporting the devs who make this stuff i recommend it.
Weather Channel Codecs for Photon
I downloaded The Weather Channel app, but the videos on it won't work like all the other videos I just spent three days trying to find the right codec info for. Is there ANYTHING I can download that will make them work since converting them isn't an option?
Here's what I have:
Stock Android
System Version: 45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4
Build Number: 4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6
Many thanks to anyone who can assist.
I tried mVideoPlayer , quickpic video player and the stock video player , but nothing gave me audio when playing the MKV file.
The file is 4.36 gb , .mkv format and is DTS .
Thanks !
Never mind , gave VLC a try and it worked flawlessly with audio dts too Thanks to anyone who was willing to help me !
Hey there...
I'm new into DNA and HTC. I have some movies in .MKV format. Whem I play them with the regular HTC player they are NOT smooth. I downloaded some Video Players from the Play Store, and I got the same result: I can't play .MKV video files in a smooth way with my DNA. I searched a little bit, and seems to be that HTC only plays .MP4 files and the rest of formats should be converted to MP4.
Is that true? Any experience or suggestion for this problem?
Thanks!

Is your dna rootable? Have you tried mx player?
Unfortunately is not rootable since it has the 2.04 software version. Yeah, I tried MX Player by itself and then try it using the MX Player Codec (ARMv7). But no luck...
Try converting the video and change the file format. That should produce a smoother playback. That's what I do at least.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
In MX Player try using S/W decoding reather than H/W decoding, most of my mkvs work for me that way.
Try MOBOPlayer its free and plays all my videos super smooth, plus has the pop out feature to watch video while like reading for instance. My mkv's are in 720p ac3 stereo 192kbps if that helps. The gpu works best with the MP4 format though with baseline at id say 8000kbps max.. grab something like mediacoder which is free to encode with for testing.
Thanks guys! Using Mobo Player with soft decode solved my problem. Appreciate it guys...
