[Q] Cant install specific zip files :( - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to flash a new Axura rom from an older version but it doesnt give me an option to choose a file from the sdcard. It just has one option to reinstall packages and it searches for update.zip
My recovery menu reads:
Android System Recovery <2e>
Samsung recovery utils
- for BML -
Can you please help me address this issue

What method are you using to get into recovery mode?

I tried the following 3 options:
(i) Using ROM Manager to reboot into recovery
(ii) Holding power button down and selecting recovery
(iii) Rebooting and holding the power button down, with both volume buttons
I dont get it. I even used ROM manager to update latest recovery version but nothing. I used to be able to install specific zip files when using a Team Whiskey ROM earlier but cant since I installed this Axura ROM.
Really appreciate your help.

Figured it out.
Reinstalled the update.zip provided by s15274n for rooting. Got me the custom recovery mode

Rom Manager/ClockworkMod

Hi guys,
I just downloaded Rom Manager today. I was successful with "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'. I wanted to flash Nero v3. I rebooted the phone by holding both volume buttons and power button at the same time. I get into the
2e recovery (blue screen). But I read that i needed to be in the green recovery screen to flash the rom. Also someone in the forum said try, 'reinstalling packages', but that didn't do anything. After a few times trying to reinstalling packages, i noticed that Titanium backup and Superuser Permissions FC all the time.
I'm not sure what I did wrong? Did I over do it with the reinstall packages? Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks inadvance.
Push the nero v3 rom to the root of ur sd card, and then select the install rom from sd card option from ROM manager and select the file and thats it..the phone boots into recovery and the flashing starts..

He's asking how to go into Clockwork first haha, your idea may work, but sometimes, it needs to go into the regular blue screen recovery no matter what to go into the clockwork.

Check your SD Card, be sure you have a zip called update.zip, thats where the clockwork is stored.
What exactly is happening when you press reinstall packages? like nothing?
Usually, mine does this it boots into the blue screen recovery then i select reinstall packages, then it reboots back to blue screen, and this time when i press reinstall packages, it turns black for half a second and then goes into clockwork.
If you could explain it in more detail of whats happening, then i'd be happy to help you, it may be that your update.zip is corrupted?
try the idea of the guy above as well, it might help.

did you pick vibrant when you flashed clockwork with rom manager ??
In order to get into Clockwork, you have to have Clockwork in your internal memory.
Go into the market and install the app ROM Manager. At the top of ROM Manager, there will be a button that says Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Press that and select your phone. Once that finishes, press the button under that, that says "Reboot into Recovery".
If it's your first time going into recovery, then it's going to popup with the stock recovery screen. Once you get to the stock recovery screen, select "Reinstall Packages" and select it with the power button. Now, my memory is a little fuzzy, but it should either take you directly back to the recovery screen, or reboot into the recovery screen, but either way, once it goes back to that same screen, select Reinstall packages again, and it should take you to the Clockwork Recovery.
EDIT: Oh, I just remembered this also. If you still have the update.zip in your internal memory, ROM Manager won't overwrite it. You have to plug your phone in to your computer, delete the update.zip, then go back into ROM Manager and reflash ClockworkMod Recovery. Then continue with what I said above.
(The update.zip that's in your memory right now is the update you applied to root your phone, just so you know. It's not required anymore.)

go to recovery and reinstall packages twice ??
that should take you to clockwork recovery
well im going to tell u wht to do from stock ok as its easier for me!
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
then after that go here and downoad the update package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
u wanna download the eclair method of root update package.
then install that on ur internal sd card and go into recovery it should be blue, now click to reinstall packages u should have to do once or twice usually twice. After that it will trun green.
Then go into rom manager and as he said above flash clockwork recovery click vibrant. After that is done u will have clockwork and root access and able to flash any rom
I started using odin before I ever even properly updated to 2.2.... however I do remember having issues like this on a Captivate that was 2.2, I remember that you for sure have to "reinstall packages" twice after flashing CWM. after that you shouldn't have to do it again.....

Failing at rooting

I've tried RSD lite method but I can't get it to work with the command prompt.
Whenever trying to type in /preinstall/dosu it says nothing is detected.
Tried super one click and it just freezes after starting daemon
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Sure you installed the driver?
If yes, please try another USB port (better power supply)
Wow how does an usb make a difference...
Now I'm trying to install clockwork recovery mode and whenever I try to go into android recovery, I get a screen with an exclamation point in a triangle and an alittle android guy.
Could you provide links to the instructions you are using?
And depending on the computer, which USB port you use could make all the difference in the world. If someone is trying to help you try to be more reciprocal.

Using a different usb port fixed my problem.
But now I'm stuck trying to install clockwork recovery mode.
Thanks for the response guys.
Oh ya, I was able to unlock the boot loader and now when I try to access atrix recovery mode from start up by pressing power and volume up key, I just get starting rsd protocol support.
I can't switch to atrix recovery mode to install clockwork from sd
Hold Volume Down and then power button
Also, try installing recovery through fastboot

Ok I was able to get into the recovery mode but it has only the following options.
Use d-pad to highlight: center to select
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache/partition
I rooted my phone with super one click method and trying this method to get clockwork recovery
http://atrix4ghacks.com/atrix-4g-ha...d-recovery-5-0-2-3-on-rooted-atrix-4g-update/
I don't have the same recovery mode as the following method.
The method you linked to would only work if you already had a custom recovery.
You have two options.
1. Go to the Android Market and download Rom Manager and install recovery from the app.
https://market.android.com/details?...yLDEsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEucm9tbWFuYWdlciJd
2. Or go here and use the instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
I personally recommend option 2. Also, you might need to do some research on the matter as I have read that there is a file that needs to be deleted under certain circumstances. Not sure where though.

Just use option #1 then and once you got it on there you can download one of the zip files from the link in option #2 and install it that way.

[Q] Android recovery 3e to 2e?

I read that when you have 3e it doesn't allow you to have CWM. I can only access CWM through ROM manager. If I try to get to CWM with power and vol up, I always get into the default android recovery 3e which leads me to ask, how do I downgrade to 2e?
Are you sure you have a Photon 4G?
Positive

To get to Android recovery you need to press Vol down and power, then go through the fast boot menu by pressing Vol down about 5 times. It should now say Android recovery, press Vol up and it should go into cwm. Works every time for me
Sent from the back of a MoPhoKing AOKP Unicorn
pwr+Vol up gives you rsd protocol or fast boot mode.depending on what state your phone is.. power + volume down gives you a few options starting with fast boot then scroll with vol dwn button and selecting with vol up button. On the photon. OP sounds strange as how he gets to recovery lol

then you don't have CWM installed. grab one of the listed ones from here http://www.motosunfire.com/clockworkmod-recovery/ and then install it via moto-fastboot or from the rom managers recovery. then you're good to go. highly recommended by everyone would be jokers v3 or v4 recovery.

if you have cwm installed on your phone and you goto recovery mode and it brings up the standard android recovery then your recovery will not allow cwm to run on your phone untill you downgrade the android recovery
when you goto recovery at the top you will probably see this android recovery (3) if so you need to download gingerbread and flash it with odin after that you should be good . i had the same problem as you and thats how i fixed it

After the successful flash of the CWM file in Odin, do you let it auto reboot? Many Samsung phones have a built in script that checks to see if the recovery partition has been modified and then reapplies the factory recovery file back to it. Try this: Have the phone in hand with fingers on button combo for recovery (most Samsung phones with physical home buttons are typically Home + Volume Up along with Power, but you won't need to do the ) and when it reboots, hit the combo for recovery and it should boot to CWM, then you'll be able to do a nandroid backup and install the stuff you want. If you want to keep the stock rom and CWM recovery, you'll have to get root access and remove the script.
