[Q] ROMS And 2.2 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA community , my name is Ethan. I was able to root my s amsung galaxy S today , using the method of the "modified 3e recovry method" my phone successfully rooted. Its super fast , I'm enjoying it. I later today tried to install custom ROM through Clockwork Mod Recovery , and was unsuccessful. My phone refuses to go into Clockworks Recovery ? Ive tried everything and its being a pain. Can someone with great knowledge of this help me ?
Here is my phone info.

did you pick vibrant when you flashed clockwork with rom manager ??

In order to get into Clockwork, you have to have Clockwork in your internal memory.
Go into the market and install the app ROM Manager. At the top of ROM Manager, there will be a button that says Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Press that and select your phone. Once that finishes, press the button under that, that says "Reboot into Recovery".
If it's your first time going into recovery, then it's going to popup with the stock recovery screen. Once you get to the stock recovery screen, select "Reinstall Packages" and select it with the power button. Now, my memory is a little fuzzy, but it should either take you directly back to the recovery screen, or reboot into the recovery screen, but either way, once it goes back to that same screen, select Reinstall packages again, and it should take you to the Clockwork Recovery.
EDIT: Oh, I just remembered this also. If you still have the update.zip in your internal memory, ROM Manager won't overwrite it. You have to plug your phone in to your computer, delete the update.zip, then go back into ROM Manager and reflash ClockworkMod Recovery. Then continue with what I said above.
(The update.zip that's in your memory right now is the update you applied to root your phone, just so you know. It's not required anymore.)

go to recovery and reinstall packages twice ??
that should take you to clockwork recovery

well im going to tell u wht to do from stock ok as its easier for me!
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
then after that go here and downoad the update package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
u wanna download the eclair method of root update package.
then install that on ur internal sd card and go into recovery it should be blue, now click to reinstall packages u should have to do once or twice usually twice. After that it will trun green.
Then go into rom manager and as he said above flash clockwork recovery click vibrant. After that is done u will have clockwork and root access and able to flash any rom

I started using odin before I ever even properly updated to 2.2.... however I do remember having issues like this on a Captivate that was 2.2, I remember that you for sure have to "reinstall packages" twice after flashing CWM. after that you shouldn't have to do it again.....

Odin stock but rooted?

I always get a headache after odining then I have to root it give my wifi pass download rom manager etc.
But mostly root.
Is there a Odin file that goes to ifs stock but also roots it?
when i go back to stock i never re-root my phone
the "update.zip" that CWM leaves on my root replaces CWM on my phone w/o rooting when i hit "reinstall packages"
so when i hit reinstall packages again it goes straight to CWM recovery and i flash my ROM....
like i said...i havent manually rooted my phone in months

well it doesnt root it in recovery....but here's the idea
when you dl ROM Manager and flash CWM Recovery via ROM Manager...it puts a "update.zip" on your root...so when you reboot into recovery you hit "Re-install Packages"...it replaces the stock 2e recovery w/ CWM....and if you have to hit "reinstall packages" again...it just jumps to CWM....
so when you flash a ROM or go back to stock....your SD is untouched (unless you got a bad ULF kernel)...which means your "update.zip" file on your root is still CWM..so when you hit "re-install packages"...the phone flashes CWM w/o having to root the phone...
so now you got CWM recovery on an un-rooted phone...so you can flash your ROM..and when you flash a custom ROM you're automatically rooted ....i've been doin it this way for months...i discovered this method by accident...i thought it would brick my phone the first time i did it...but like i said i've been doin it for months

idk...it might be the problem...i never check re-partition in Odin...never saw the point of that
when i do this method it sends me to the green CWM(since its the one from ROM Manager)...then when i flash my favorite TW ROM it'll give me the VooDoo red CWM...
here's what you can do to test my method:
Go ahead and root, dl ROM Manager, and Flash CWM Recovery...
once you have CWM successfully up....Odin back to stock....
Don't root the phone...after its done loading up....reboot into stock 2e recovery
Hit "reinstall packages"...you might see the test say "Replacing stock recovery with ClockworkMod Recovery" really quick before it reboots...
Once it goes back to stock 2e...hit "reinstall Packages" again...
and it should send you to the green CWM Recovery

Can't boot into ClockworkMod

I can't seem to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. It boots me into the android recovery screen (blue text, 4 options). I try re-installing packages but it doesn't work. How can I fix it?
Did u flash clockwork recovery on rom manager first?
ur update package could be corrupt!! download a new update package and reinstall new package twice like usual and it should turn green and if it doesnt do it after that. Then come back and we'll go from there.

Yeah, I flashed it. It didn't turn green
flash clockwork recovery for vibrant not vibrant mtd. then after that download the update package and insert it on ur sd card. Go into ur rom manager and go into recovery from there and reinstall packages and do it twice.
Have u done this before? make sure ur phone isnt hardware locked??
downgrade with odin to 2.1 with the proper tar file and pit file. Then when ur on 2.1 its alot easier. Put the update package on ur internal sd card and turn ur phone off. Then hold down both volume buttons then power it back on and when u see vibrant come on let go of the power button. U will then see recovery then all u have to do is reinstall package and u may have to do that once or twice but then after that u will have the green recovery and ur phone will be rooted and ready to rock with some roms.
enjoy

I couldn't find anything relating to the update package. Still have the same problem.
Its right under rooting ur phone under eclair guide at that link

it probably that u have the 3e recovery which prevent the clockworkmod from being signed therefore it wont boot into clockwork try download 3e recovery installer mod from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
just follow the instruction on that post
all my help ive been giving u i thought u were on stock 2.1 if u were on 2.2 then update package wont work on 2.2, thats why the guide is for 2.1 eclair..
Are u on 2.1 or 2.2?

[Q] Vibrant - rooting - roming - lag fix

Okay so im new to this and i have been working all day on trying to get my vibrant modded a little .. My earlier thread shows that i had some trouble and finally got it back to its factory settings .
Now I have upgraded to 2.2 and i rooted it using super one click rooting because I cannot root with an update.zip because I get a signature verification failure. But I realized i need to do this anyways to run a rom even using rom manager ..
So i tried to install 3e recovery installer which is suppose to override this but for some reason it fails to install. It says checking for root: and it fails.
Someone seemed to have the same problem in a different thread and said they deleted some bloatware with terminal emulator but i used termaninal backup (or something like that) to delete some bloatwares but this still did not fix the problem for me.
What is my problem? And what lag fix can i use for my vibrant when i get all this to work?
Fastest way to obtain root :
1. is to flash stock JFD rom (use AIO tools.
2. flash Clockwork recovery through Rom manager (get it from market)
3. Flash any rooted rom (with Voodoo lagfix) through CWM.
And most important thing, if you don't know what you are doing with your phone don't do anything.

i thought you needed root to flash recovery from rom manager...
anyways, my method of rooting is to use the recovery 3e to 2e batch (dont wanna call it an install cause it doesnt install really) and then flash a root update.zip from the 2e recovery you just flashed.
what may be happening to your 3e 2e thing is that you might of forgotten to enable usb debugging... you do this by going in the menu>applications>development>usb debugging on
make sure the phone is plugged in to the computer and debug is on and run 3e to 2e...
then get ahold of a root update.zip and rename it update.zip, put it on the root of your internal sd card (\mnt\sdcard\) and go into recovery (power phone off, hold vol up and down buttons and then hold power button at the same time until you see the vibrant boot screen. when you get into recovery, hit reinstall packages.
sorry for the wall of text; hope this helps.

[Q] CWM seems to have bricked the phone

Rooted the phone, installed ROM Manger, installed CWM from RM, selected version for Samsung Galaxy 2 AT&T.
Backed up the ROM
Went back into CWM to do a manual check and now CWM does nothing. I can navigate through itand select tasks, but that just talkes me to a screen wth the tophat logo.
Remove battery and phone boots into CWM with the same problems.
This has just got to be in the FAQ.
ROM Manager is not compatible with the SII at this point.
If you can still get into download mode and/or recovery, you are fine.

my phone is bricked while flashing your CWM 7 (2.3.7).
if someone wants to stand behind next to me then [ FLASH IT ]..
Otherwise IGNORE this thread I repeat IGNORE this thread..

Rom manager is.compatible but you need to use a compatible kernel. Clockwork kernel for an example

[Q] HELP!!! flashed CWM to my 2.3.5 Fascinate, now i cant get out of recovery

used oden to flash CWM. now i cant boot into android, it just keeps kicking me into CWM recovery.
anyone see this? any suggestions? would a wipe fix it?
did you flash a rom if so which one?
no ROMs, simply just tried flashing CWM via Odin
may i ask why 2.3.5?
what were you trying to do?
i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.
that link didnt work. tried searching for the thread without any luck
for some reason it truncated the link with a '...' and it thinks that is part of the hyperlink

thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.
weird right? any suggestions
ok then what is your endgame?
Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?
Perhaps you should try this
Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838
It is a custom kernel.
Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!
Good luck!
Your bootlooped...if you can get into cwm wipe all three and flash a rom thats compatible with the version of cwm you have installed. Or odin back to stock and start over...
