What up with the compass? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The GPS now works flawlessly on all the new ROMs. The compass, however, doesn't point north. I'm pretty sure this is it's only intended purpose. Apps that depend on it don't work properly. Goggle skymaps is a jumpy mess.
Can the compass be fixed? Has the fix just not been implemented? Because for the GPS to work as good as it does now, you'd think it would need compass input.
thoughts?

Have you tried calibrating the compass? I sometimes have trouble with it as well, but that usually does it. Search for "Best Compass Calibration Method" on YouTube - the first video shows the method I use.

You are supposed to wave the compass in a figure 8 pattern to callibrate it. My friends thought I looked stupid waving my phone in the middle of Starbucks.

Google Sky on HD2?

Saw this awesome app on the android, is there anything like it on windows mobile that works on the HD2?, tried astronavigator 2.02, but it gets stuck trying to connect to the GPS "location"
Bump?....
Bump attempt 2
would like to know also
You mean the application that uses gps and compass for showing the sky objects that you are looking to, right? The so called "augmented reality" one? I would really love to see something like that on my HD2, but unfortunately I have not heard of anything like that for WM yet.
this would be great
Using a simple google search I found this:
http://vitotechnology.com/astronavigator.html
Please do try and search first.
edit: Mmm.. just gave it a test run. The application stalls when you try to use your location. Other then that it does work.
I was using Astronavigator on my Omnia but, as said by snipey, it doesn't work anymore for location. and no update is forecast by Vito.
Is there another software for astronomic view?
Pretty sur there is a cab file fix for this on here somewhere
There is another software similar to Google Sky, Stella Theatre Pocket. Even though the site is in Japanese, the software is in English, and works perfectly on the HD2. It will even set your current position via GPS.
Top man Greg, top man

Sweet! Thanks dude
How do you get the licence? I can't get past the payment screen.
Figured it out... DUH
Check this out
Leo's Void is a great freeware planetarium - a bit old, but still looks impressive and operates (mostly) well on the HD2.
It's at http://www.leobueno.net/
The problem with astronavigator comes with the resolution, you need wgafix for the location work.
reg workaround for position freeze
if you know your latitute and altitude, then you can simply edit your registry...
navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VITO\AstroNavigator" and change the values to your position. they should be "0"
you can check, if your at the right spot, if you switch "night_mode" from "0" to "1" or vice versa if you have it currently enabled.
when you start astro navigator then, you should see the changes regarding night mode, and if you take a closer look, then you should see, that the grid in the map looks different than before
Does it automatically rotate like the Google Sky Map one does? Do any of them?

Disable the compass?

Anyone know of a way to disable the compass on the vibrant? I hate it when I am using the navigation and the pointer starts pointing in random directions when I am not moving. Recalculating... Recalculating... etc...
I hope that you are able to find the help you need,

Hay mugzy
I hope that you are able to find the help you need, but you will not here.
This is the Dev Section and this area is reserved for topics such as Developers, Roms, Kernels, and such.
mugzy you are probably going to find the answers to you questions over at the Q.A. area, their someone may be able to assist you.
The channeling of the questions and the threads are implemented to make this place some what more efficient.
navigation was buggy when I tried it driving 10 west into LA, Google Maps was the solution & it is free.
In the New Google Map (with 3 D) There is a Icon upper right corner to have the compass displayed on the map. Just click it with your finger. Such a fun app!
Good luck mugzy with your Question.

[Q] aokp 4.2.2 jb - photosphere missing?

I don't see photosphere in the camera in AOKP 4.2.2 jb.
Should it be there or is there a reason it's missing?
Thank you
Photosphere needs Gyroscope to operate, that's missing in Mediapad.
must be right
I was trying to confirm about the gyroscope. Found some reviews that I think incorrectly stated the media pad has a gyroscope.
Several sensor apps showed no gyroscope is available.
I was hoping it would work especially since Google sky map works. With it, you can move around the tablet and it seems to determine orientation properly.
I guess that photosphere relies on it. Perhaps at some point it will be updated to work without a gyroscope but I doubt it.
I'm sorry, i was wrong. Mediapad HAS GYROSCOPE
proof http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mediapad-review-719.php
kernel support?
I read a review that said it had a gyroscope too but thought it was a mistake as an app I tried said gyroscope was unavailable. You can't always trust reviews. I also found no mention of gyro on the huawei site. FYI, I have a T-Mobile springboard.
I used sensor kinetics from the app store to test and another I can't remember.
I tried it on AOKP 4.2.2 but not on other ROMs.
I'm going to try others and see what it says. Maybe the gyro support/drivers are missing.
It would be cool to have it working!

[Q] About some sensors not working on SGT7 running cm11

@storm31 @mike2nl:
I'm running cm unofficial rom for a longtime.
I'd read @mike2nl's post about some sensors not working sometimes in forum on @storm31's rom today.
The issue not only happen's on this edition, but also happened on almost all cm rom.
I noticed that it happened in case of: when you fixed your real location by use some apps that require GPS and compass work together(such as Google maps or something like it), the magnetic sensor went not working first, then you'd find that the other sensors as @mike2nl list in forum not working ether. But the GPS goes still working.
Reboot device can set them to original type: they do can work singly.
For i'm not a developer, i didn't register in Xda site and didn't say anyword here about this.
I read you were discussing this issue today, so i registered today to submit my finding.
But i cannot reply in forum, so only post this here.
Hope you'll notice it and hope it'll be useful for you.
Thanks for all your nice works for our old SGTs!
P.S. @storm31's cm11 ron edition 05-12 has a issue: it seldom lost desktop icons after reboot device.

CUBOT X19 Compass not working

Hi,
I have two CUBOT X19 devices running the Android Pie ROM provided by Cubot (CUBOT_X19_9021C_1_V07_20190612-1141).
Both suffer from a non-working compass pointing East always.
The gyroscope seems to work fine as turning the phone lets it point to another heading shortly,
but once you stop the rotation, the compass points East again.
Of course I tried calibrating the compass ("figure 8 movement") a hundred times to no avail.
Using a weak magnet you can change the heading. Thus the magnetic compass does not seem to be broken totally.
I like the phone very much, but regretfully the phone is unusable for navigation by foot like this.
- Anybody with the same issue around?
- Does this look like a soft- or hardware issue?
- Does probably somebody have the X19 with Android 8.1 or any other ROM who can confirm that the X19 magnetic sensor (compass) works?
havent had the same problem but
have you written to cubot about this? when i installed their rom my imei numbers were missing and they were quick to help, they sent a zip with a nice tutorial and all the necessary files. i know it aint the same problem but they should be able to help you out. doesnt hurt to ask them if you havent already.
Yes, I contacted Cubot
Thanks for your reply! I did contact Cubot using their forum the same day, I added this thread. Regretfully I did not receive any reply yet.
Meanwhile I managed to get the compass working on one of the two devices using the calibration tool in the app "gps status & toolbox". I tried the same with other tools before, without success. The calibration looks fine for about a week now, so I guess this thread can be considered closed.
If someone experiences the same problem, he might give gps status & toolbox a try. At least for me it did the trick.
Cheers, Lucius
