how do i 'install' wallpapers from PC? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i downloaded some images from the wallpapers thread onto my PC. i didnt know where to put them on the phone so i made a Wallpapers folder and stuck them in there. i go to home screen, menu, wallpaper, and gallery (and look for my directory). i can pick wallpapers, but when they are loaded i can only select a rectangular segment, losing the rest of the wallpaper.
is there an easy way to deal with tihs?

Maybe the pics resolution is a problem? The file format?

Download wallaby from the market it will let you use the full image
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

the image are all correctly sized, just when i choose "Gallery" and select the wallpaper, it takes me to a screen to 'crop' a part i want. won't let me use the whole image.
looking at wallaby right now. maybe it's the fact that i need to use "Gallery"

I think if it bigger then 480x800 you only get the option to pick a certain area which really sucks..

Lock Screen

does anyone know how do i change my lock screen photo to one of the default wallpapers??
As far as I know you can't - quite annoying.
I had to reset the whole theme to default then re-configure it to my liking. Once you have done this remember to save it before making any changes.
Can you not do it by going to >Settings>Personalize>Lock screen wallpaper>Select

That only gives you the option of selecting another from your downloads and camera albums. The default wallpapers are unavailable.

Ok. Now that i am completely confused as to what you want to do, can I suggest that you look at

The default wallpapers are available there and you could download them to your phone and use them.
Apologies if this is not what you were asking for.
Kalairn is saying you get the options to use your album photos and HTC wallpapers when you choose a wallpaper.
You only get the option to use album photos and NOT the HTC wallpapers when you select an image for the lock screen (even though by default they use the HTC wallpapers).
Your post should get around the issue because you can put the HTC wallpapers in your album folder.
s1977 you are a star!!! i guess I'll have to copy them images to the phone
Yep, you definitely can copy the images to your sd card. From there on its easy
HTH
Those are the wallpapers, not the lockscreens. The lockscreens is available in the etc/lockscreen folder. But you can't save or copy them from there (usually) so I uploaded them: http://fluesoppen.com/android/lockscreens/
Enjoy.
Is there any way to select the lock screen image without any compression?
When selecting the lock screen (and the standard wallpaper if it's from an album) I get a preview of the image on the screen with a green rectangle that can be resized. Even selecting the full image, the colours/compression seem to be worse than the original image.
This still occurs when I have copied the HTC lock screen images to the SD card, so it shouldn't be a problem with the images themselves, just a problem of how to get them onto the lock screen at full quality!
Any ideas or solutions?

Anybody got all the stock Wallpapers?

Anybody ripped out the stock Vibrant wallpapers yet? I'd really like to get the roses one to use on a different device.
Thanks!
Edit: Nevermind, I got them. They're in the "TwWallpaperChooser.apk" file.
So if I want to add my own wallpapers to the program, is it as simple as extracting the files, adding both resolutions of the photo I want (960x800 and 170x142), and repacking? Is the package a standard zip file with the file extension changed from "zip" to "apk"? I know I can just drag it over to the memory card (or internal memory), open it, then choose "set as wallpaper" from the options/settings menu, but there are only a few wallpapers that I would ever choose from. Mostly because it will be my business name and logo 90% of the time, but when I travel I would like to change from just my small private collection and not any of the wallpapers that are included. The menu of the wallpaper chooser looks cool which is why I want to keep it and not use the "set as wallpaper" option when I open the picture. Thanks in advance if anyone posts a solution.

No, all apk's are signed, and if you changed the contents the signature wouldn't match anymore, although it's not hard to resign it. If you want to go that route, search around the G1 dev forum.

[Q] wallpaper folder

Hi all, wondering if anybody could help me!!
Google has turned up nothing so far so im gonna ask away!!
I am currently using nobodyatall's cm7 2.0 on my x10mini and am wondering where and how I can save pictures that I want as wallpapers.
Basically I don't want wallpapers to show up in my regular picture gallery, I want them only to show in the wallpaper gallery when i go to change wallpapers.
Is there a folder on the SD card or the internal memory, or is there a way I can open an APK in winrar or whatever and drop the pictures in there?
Regards
A
There are two ways that I can think of for you to do this. First, just create a folder in your SD card labeled wallpapers (or whatever you want). Then place all your wallpapers there.
Easy way: Use QuickPics. It has an option to hide a folder from the gallery. Just long press on the folder and you'll find the option.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
Still easy (just not automated):create an empty file in your wallpaper folder with filename ".nomedia" without the quotes. This will prevent the gallery from scanning that folder. This also works to prevent music files from showing in the player.
To change your wallpaper, if using QuickPic, just press your menu button > show hidden > enter the folder and click the picture > use as wallpaper. If you don't want to use QuickPic, use a file manager to go the wallpaper folder then select your picture from there.
Great sugestions, especially the hideden folder option, however what I'm looking for (I wasn't quite sure how to explain this properly before!!) is to be able to add images directly to the menu of wallpapers like when you long press the screen and it gives you options to change the wallpaper I get a list of options, cyanogen wallpapers, gallery, live wallpapers, wallpaper gallery and wallpapers.
I would like to be able to add wallpapers directly to one of these menus, so I'm looking for the folder in which they are all kept in. I found one in one of the internal apk's, but i'm not sure if I can just inject them into the apk and also whether i need to include thumbnail size png's as the ones included with cyanogen seem to have these to.
Thanks for a great comprehensive reply. If all fails, I'll be looking at the hidden folder option!!
Cheers!
That's a bit harder. Sounds like it shouldn't be but it actually is since you'll be modding an apk. Here are a couple of links to get you started if you're really interested in doing this:

Thanks man, some great info, the first post really hits the nail on the head, I didn't think of checking the other forums (duh me, it's all android!!)!!
So it looks like I will have to take out the launcher.apk and recompile it after editing the xml file that contains the details of the names of the wallpapers. I'm guessing this is some sort of framework xml for the purposes of creating the horizontal table that you can swipe across to view the previews of the pictures.
This makes sense I guess, loading a table reather than using up memory to load a gallery style viewer that indexes the pictures seems much more streamlined seeing that is only for the use of wallpapers, however I do like the wallpaper gallery style that the xml framewrok brings.
I guess I'm going take the newer(and some older) wallpapers from other cm roms and rename them over some of the exisitng files. This way I shouldn't have to delve too deeply!!!
Thanks again for the help and info leftAlone, you are a star!!!

[Q]: Importing qHD-formatted wallpapers?

I have been collecting some great qHD-formatted wallpapers from around the net. They are 1080x960 resolution. If I open them in the gallery app, it will only let me select a small portion of the picture to display. Is there a way to embed these images such that they show up in the Wallpapers section and I can view the entire image as a wallpaper?

This is how I do it.
Long press on the home screen, select Wallpaper, select Gallery, select the picture you want to use, long press on the picture (a edit square will popup), stretch the box so the entire picture fits inside it. Save the picture as wallpaper and you're done.
Get wallpaper wizardrii from market.
Beamed from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium
I have tried both suggested methods. sjmoreno I did get it working this way- thank you! The Wallpaper Wizardrii app does add a lot more options, I will use both methods.

[Q] stock wallpaper picker

so i was wondering where the wallpapers for the stock wallpaper picker are located on this phone...i was thinking of putting my own wallpapers in that section because theyre quite bad when cropped by the gallery
please and thanks
I am looking for the same thing, any luck friend?
As long as the wallpaper sizes are the correct size (1440x1280), it doesn't matter where you put them. Just expand the box in gallery to cover the whole image, and even though it will say cropping, it won't crop.
Or try an app called Crop Wallpaper. It will do a little better job of cropping, or you can select whole image.
Technically the folder they are stored in is /system/customize/resource
But even if you drop pictures in there, and set the permissions, and reboot. they don't show up.
I believe the filenames have to be referenced in the default.xml file in the /system/customize/MNS folder as well.
Unless you're cookin up a rom and want to include your own images, it just isn't worth it.
