I have been collecting some great qHD-formatted wallpapers from around the net. They are 1080x960 resolution. If I open them in the gallery app, it will only let me select a small portion of the picture to display. Is there a way to embed these images such that they show up in the Wallpapers section and I can view the entire image as a wallpaper?

This is how I do it.
Long press on the home screen, select Wallpaper, select Gallery, select the picture you want to use, long press on the picture (a edit square will popup), stretch the box so the entire picture fits inside it. Save the picture as wallpaper and you're done.
Get wallpaper wizardrii from market.

I have tried both suggested methods. sjmoreno I did get it working this way- thank you! The Wallpaper Wizardrii app does add a lot more options, I will use both methods.

i downloaded some images from the wallpapers thread onto my PC. i didnt know where to put them on the phone so i made a Wallpapers folder and stuck them in there. i go to home screen, menu, wallpaper, and gallery (and look for my directory). i can pick wallpapers, but when they are loaded i can only select a rectangular segment, losing the rest of the wallpaper.
is there an easy way to deal with tihs?
Maybe the pics resolution is a problem? The file format?
Download wallaby from the market it will let you use the full image

the image are all correctly sized, just when i choose "Gallery" and select the wallpaper, it takes me to a screen to 'crop' a part i want. won't let me use the whole image.
looking at wallaby right now. maybe it's the fact that i need to use "Gallery"
I think if it bigger then 480x800 you only get the option to pick a certain area which really sucks..
Ok I been up and down these and other forums for a few days. I registered here a while back but never posted because I had no problems... But I searched... came close but no cigar. I downloaded Numerous wallpaper apps and played around with different ratios, But no matter what I do I always find myself forced to crop the background (if it doesn't crop it zooms the hell out of the picture). I'm I missing something I'm on a completely stock rooted 2.2... I'm at my wits end with this, so close to just saying screw it and finding a decent LWP... anyone care to lend a helping hand?
Edit* Most of the stuff I find applies to portrait mode.. I use Landscape mode 99% of the time
in landscape the resolution should be 960x480
in portrait 960x800
Umm...no.
Wallpaper images, regardless of orientation need to be 960x800 in order to maintain the sharpest image possible. See my post here.
The attached file is a grid 960x800, which is the recommended size for a wallpaper in android. That is 2 times the width by the height of the phone screen.
Make this the wallpaper on your phone and test it out. you should be able to use the entire image as your wallpaper. Make sure you have auto-rotate on and that your home app is scrolling the wallpaper. If you use a home app that allows you to change the number of homescreens you will see that how much of the image is scrolled changes with the number of screens.
If you use auto-rotation you will be able to see exactly what part of an image can be seen with the phone in each orientation. This is the problem when creating wallpapers, particularly ones with content (kids, a car, etc.) that you want visible in either orientation.
I keep so many icons on my homescreens that mot of the wallpaper is covered so I use a simple wallpaper. If you want the wallpaper to be more visible and make a statement about you or your phone you have to consider many factors. The release version of the Streak with Android 1.6 was customized to allow a different wallpaper on each screen, to get that effect now you have to use an app.
MultiPicture Wallpaper
StreakSet Wallper app
WallStreak - it's buried in the thread
960x800 wallpaper gallery
So - there is no simple answer. Let us know what ends up working for you.
Edit: I like to edit my wallpaper images on my PC making sure that the image is a multiple of 960x800 (to preserve the aspect ratio) and the resize to 960x480 before copying to the phone. The gallery app will allow you to select an entire 960x800 image.
Edit2: Your home app may handle the wallpaper differently than stock or other phone apps, so test on your specific setup.
Marvin... that grid line you provided seems to be helping ALOT. It fits landscape without a problem now I can plot exact grid points... I'll do a quick run to see how it looks. If I am content I will post results but if not I will get some rest. its 2:30 lol... but thanks alot, all of you.
Def. happy with how this came out, that image wasn't the proper dimensions so I edited it (not by much) now all I have to do is line it up on a fresh canvas and boom... thanks again. def solved my problems

yes i meant that in landscape only 960x480 is shown but the wallpaper is 960x800

Thanks for the app. So I downloaded the app, long press and chose wallpaper no crop..picked my pictures in my gallery..it shows success at the bottom...BUT the wallpaper is of the default..it seems the only way I can get my personal picture to appear and fit is if I go to gallery...pick the pic...then take a screenshot of it...then go back to wallpaper no crop and choose it..then it will work...
Is this how it's normally done?

??? You need 1440 X 1280 Wallpaper images. All you have to do is click on the picture you want as wallpaper and it sets it for you. Nothing more, nothing less.
What photos are you trying to use for wallpapers exactly??

Or just get the gallery.Apk from cm9 ( or ics galley from the play store) its what I use and it works just fine
Hope I helped

Is there any way to set a wallpaper without having it zoom in. Every wallpaper sets with a zoom altering the original image, no matter how I set it.
Sent from my EVO LTE using Tapatalk 2
When you select the wallpaper and the bounding box appears, you can stretch it out so that it covers the whole image. If the image is the right size (1440x1280) it won't zoom, and even though it will say cropping, it won't crop. Check the link in my sig for some correctly sized wallpapers to peruse.
Do this like I write and u should be able to use the whole screen photo with no zooming.
Go into gallery and select ur photo. When the menu comes up select set as wallpaper and not wallpaper option. There are 3 different formats u can use. Select the wide screen one or panaroma type style.
The whole picture will be used instead of having to crop manually and it will still be scrollable.
Thanks if I helped u.

I thank you for responding and trying to help. Although it tweeks my images a slight tad, they are still grossly zoomed in.

Hi, I'm trying to create a multi-screen wallpaper setup like in this build (http://mycolorscreen.com/2014/07/29/iren/) but how does one shrink their desired wallpaper to fill just half the screen? I tried bitmap but the scaling makes it difficult and blurry.
Thank you in advance.

Hi you could add a widget with full width or simply use photoshop to integrate the gray layer to your image.

I was going to simply cover the bottom half the wallpaper with a RECT overlay but it seems like the previous theme and this other one (http://mycolorscreen.com/2014/08/23/sportlife/) have a found way to shrink the wallpaper without losing detail or focus. When I tried inserting the wallpaper into a widget, it came out blurry cause I have to stretch it in order to fill the entire widget by increasing the scale (increased scale = blurry). Unless there's another way aside from bitmap or photoshop, I guess this is it then.
I didnt mean to use the wallpaper in the widget. You should cover the bottom half with a widget and set the wallpaper as usual.

Yea, I did that but that leaves me losing the bottom half of the wallpaper. I thought the two themes I looked at had a way of 'shrinking' the wallpaper to fit in the top half without losing detail. The method you suggested (if I'm reading it correctly) is to cover the bottom half with my widget (RECT + icons) and then set the wallpaper to auto-fit the top half. But the wallpaper still fills the entire screen. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Hi,
There are two main ways of doing this. First is to use Zooper, and add the images as a bitmap. However if you said this makes the images blurry, Photoshop (or any other image editor) should do the trick. Simply take a screenshot of your homescreen, open that in Photoshop, then drag the wallpaper on where you want it to go.
Hope this helps!

Thank you! I just wanted confirmation on the bitmap scaling.
