I've flashed multiple roms and kernels, but i just flashed bionix V with voodoo 5 w/ Touch wiz from team whiskey(great rom BTW). after i flashed it, i saw destroyer of worlds OC to 1.4, so i wanted to see how it ran. after 1 day at school, i came home and barley used my phone at it was at 10% battery, so i ditched the DoW. When i flashed back to a stock 2.2 kernel, i forgot to disable voodoo ya, i know i forgot whatever... so now when i rebooted my phone, it kept vibrating and kept displaying the team whiskey boot animation for like 1 hour, so now i went back to recovery and it says:
E: can't mount /dev/block/stl11

I just scored a vibrant cause my friend thought it was bricked because it was doing this. I ran it through ODIN and fixed it in minutes, then he offered to give it to me once fixed ODIN is super easy, I just followed this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnY7P14JSWQ
The files I used are in the description. Skip forward to get to where you're at. Just put the PIt and PDA in, don't mess with stuff on the left, and click the start button

just hit the start button and wait for it to finish. when you see the message saying success 1 / failed 0 then your good to go. it should reboot on its own and you're good to go.

If that doesn't work post , I actually had the same issue, except mine couldn't even get to download mode. Just stuck on the DOW boot animation and tmobile stock animation both booting at the same time. I found a video to get around and after I was able to flash to stock. Now on Bionix-v-1.2 running great. Gotta locate the video why I didn't post.

Recently I bricked my Vibrant pretty seriously, I did a lot of searching and found that many people were experiencing the very same issue but few of them were able to find a solution.
I want to share exactly how I manged to get my phone restored, just in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation.
*** PLEASE READ FULL POST CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING ***
The problem
After an Odin restore I found my phone was caught in a recovery loop and I was continually getting the following error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/st110 (Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: copy default media content failed
The solution
Eventually I found this bit of info provided by user Windowlicker on the Samsung Galaxy S Forums.
Put your phone to download mode (hold down: volume down, home key, power)
Do not plug in your phone yet.
Start Odin3
Tick "Re-Partition", and also check that "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" have been ticked.
Click "PIT" button and select s1_odin_20100512.pit file.
Now, plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start" button... <Firmware update start...> <Get PIT for mapping...> appear. The phone will turn off and the screen indicates "Reset". Wait until Odin indicates "Pass".
Plug out your phone, remove the battery, put it back in and put phone to download mode again.
Click "Reset" button in Odin and untick "Re-Partition" box.
Do not select PIT file again. Just leave it empty.
Click "PDA" button and select "CODE" file.
Click "MODEM" button and select "MODEM" file.
Click "CSC" button and select "CSC" file.
Plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start" button and wait until phone reboots with the new software version.
(When it comes to the restore step I found that I needed to go back to the Stock 2.1 Vibrant ROM, JI2 & JI6 wouldn't work for me.)
I hope this info helps some folks out, I had completely given up on trying to restore, and I ordered a replacement from T-Mobile. A couple days later I found this solution. Now I'm waiting to receive a phone I no longer need, and will find a nice $20 delivery charge on my next TMO bill. The price of giving up too quickly I guess.
***ADDITIONAL NOTES BASED ON USER FEEDBACK***
I've noticed many people are getting stuck on the 7th step, 'where you are asked to remove the battery and place the phone in download mode'. I cannot stress enough that you need to be extremely patient during this step and should not remove the battery until after Odin indicates pass. This could take as long as 10 to 30 minutes, failure to wait could result in a 'true brick'.
Another step missing from the original instructions is to remove the External SD and SIM cards before starting this process. I'm not completely certain what the technical reason is behind this, but it does seem to help the process along.
Before starting it might also be to good make sure the screen saver and sleep modes on your PC are disabled, as some steps take a while and it might be possible for either of these processes to interrupt it.
Finally, I again want to stress patience. If during any step, things seem like they are taking longer than you think they should, go and make a sandwich, maybe play a game or watch some TV and give it a little while longer. Letting the phone sit too long during a step won't cause any problems, but removing it too soon could cause a brick.
Are there MODEM and CSC files for the Vibrant? I don't think I've seen any.
im wondering also
Click "PDA" button and select "CODE" file.
Click "MODEM" button and select "MODEM" file.
Click "CSC" button and select "CSC" file.
i know to select the update as pda but what for modem and csc
If you are using the 'Original Samsung Factory 2.1 ROM' then you will only need to select a 'PIT' file and the 'ROM' file.

I can't get in to download mode. No matter what combination of buttons I use it just dumps me to the Android system recovery <2e> with the error:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/st110 (invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA
copy default media content failed.
Any ideas? This happened after I accidentally re-partitioned with the JI6 instead of the 2.1 true stock ROM.

This happened to me as well, Try this—remove your battery and disconnect the USB cable. Then re-insert the battery and immediately press and hold both volume down and power. This should get you into download mode.
Also as a side note, before you start this process it's probably a good idea to make sure both your SIM card and external SD card (if youre using one) are both removed. Once your phone is up and running again you can put them back.

Thanks the info posted in this link worked for me, I flashed my phone with a froyo Rom and Kernel also a few mods. And after trying to restore to a J16 Stock Rom I got caught in a boot loop. But this helped thanks again
Thank you soooo much for this thread, after trying to go back to stock rom from a custom rom for a friend this error happened. Followed your guide and it work. Save my boy from having to buy a new Vib. Man props to you.
I've got a similar issue but the steps listed on your link did not help. Any other advice? I accidentally pressed the power button while in recovery mode while "delete davlick cache" or whatever it is was highlighted and since then it boots up the the galaxy s screen and no more. The buttons light up but that is it. Thanks in advance for any help!

yours is actually an easy fix, just boot back to recovery and tell it to erase user data. basically what you did was delete the java temp files, and it's freezing when trying to find those. doing a data wipe should fix it.
just an FYI,the original 2.1 and eugene's froyo rom from the unbranded galaxy s both work,J12 and J16 do not and will show the same error.
It worked! Thank you so much.
it doesnt work for me =[ . i still have the darn problem after doing that : boot loop and E:\Can't mount
i dont have the CSC file . i downloaded the JF2 modem and the original firmware 2.1 .
any help ? i nailed down the download screen pretty good by now . i tried this method ( the only i found so far )
up untill the part of the pda csc and phone part i dont understand, do i need to put files to each one, what do i do with them? they're blank, but pit has the odin_20100512. what do i put for the others? and what do i do with the JFD file and the bit download?

No worries, the 'pit' file goes in the pit field as you have figured out, while the 'jfd' file goes in the PDA field. All of the other fields remain blank.
my Vibrant has been stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung boot screen for hours now and I'm planning on trying this as a fix once i get home from work, or possibly on lunch.
I was getting the E:Can't mount right before all this started to happen, but since then the only portion of my phone I have had access to was the Downloading mode.
Sounds like it has been helpful for some, so I hope to be able to count myself in the ranks soon, but for right now, being phone-less really sucks...
Oh is there any part that I should take *extra* care doing?

Just make sure you precisely follow the instructions, if you get impatient or interrupt any of the sequences you will definitely run into problems as some steps could take 10 minutes or more.
Another good tip might be to disable the screensaver on your computer while trying this fix. This step isn't an absolute must, but another "just in case" precaution you could take.
Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
okay i had a completely stock vibrant.. rooted it, then installed axure ROM to it.. was loving it.. and wanted to see if i could make it better by installing ryanza's OCLF.. well it DOESNT say anywhere around axures ROM that OCLF cant be installed... so apparently it messed up the playlogos and wouldnt get past the vibrant screen on bootup... well i asked somebody what i should do.. they told me that i should installed jac's oc/uv colorfix with voodoo to fix it, because they said my kernel was screwed up... well now when my phone is started up, it brings up the vibrant screen then it instantly goes to the system recovery mode....
so i can NOT get into ROM manager to flash a new rom or whatever i need to do... i do NOT have SDK installed... but i can use ODIN..
can someone PPLLEEAASSEE tell me how to restore the playlogos files (if thats whats wrong) or whatever i need to do to get back to just axures ROM and thats it...
and i also dont want someone to just tell me where to go, because iv done that WWAAYY too many times, and i always end up getting the wrong thing ODIN'd to my phone... will someone please give me the webpage and the name of the PIT and PDA... i need help... QUICK... its my business phone and cant make money without it... i need help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What business?
Anyways, use Odin and Eugene's famous "Froyo that does not brick". Then use Odin to flash the stock firmware. Then get a blackberry lol

Here is a couple of methods to get into download mode. Once you get to download mode, follow the directions later in my post...
First Method
1) Pull the battery, sim card, and sd card.
2) Reinsert battery but do not press any buttons.
3) Plug into usb that is connected to your computer. If something shows up on the screen (charging logo) then you should be golden.
4) Hold the vol up, vol down, and power until the screen comes on, immediately release the power button but not the other two. You should be in dl mode.
Second Method
1) Another method that seems to work for some people is to pull the battery, sim, sd card.
2) Reinsert battery and hold both volume buttons but do not press power button.
3) Then plug in usb. The phone should boot into download.
Third Method
1) You will need the samsung ADB drivers installed for your phone and ADB.
Samsung Drivers for 32 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...=SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
Samsung Drivers for 64 bit Windows: http://files.androidspin.com/downlo...ung/vibrant/&file=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
2) Remove sim card and sd-card. Remove the battery.
3) Hold buttons vol up, vol down, and power.
4) While holding down those 3 buttons put the battery back in and keep holding all 3 buttons until the vibrant disappears and reappears. Once it reappears, release all 3 buttons.
5) Now connect your phone to your pc via USB cable.
6) Open a cmd prompt and navigate to the folder with ADB and type "ADB REBOOT DOWNLOAD" caps are not necessary.
7) Your phone will reboot into the download mode.
Once in download mode
Download the files in the linked thread and follow the directions there or the ones below.
Odin and Files Needed Available Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1) Open Odin and verify that one of the Com ports shows a device connected. If it doesn't try using a different usb port.
2) Load the .pit and pda files. It should be pretty obvious how to do that once you are in Odin.
3) Make sure that the option to partition is unchecked. The other two options should be checked.
4) Hit start and wait.
5) Your phone will restart when Odin is done and you will be good to go.
Also, you might have to build the usb jig. It is guaranteed to get you into download mode. Here is a link to that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
Also, if you would like I can use remote log in to your computer and do it for you. Send me a pm or email: [email protected]

if you do decide to use odin, make sure and at least try to disable voodoo beforehand. (It saves alot of trouble, it is however; possible to use odin without doing this, using froyo that doesen't brick... but I would not recommend it unless its your absolute last resort.)
I would try simply disableing voodoo and see if that fixes it.
welll gonna make a jig to get to download mode will i need any thing else besides odin to flash froyo that doesnt brick to the vibrant
hey well tried to remove voodooo and kind of bricked the phone got to dl mode them odin back to stock but phone goes blank afterthe samsung music and soft keys light up
finally got it. using eugenes froyo worked for me! thanks for the help
i accidentally flashed the dead horse kernal without disabling voodoo. lost all internal memory . now im factory wiped and when i go to download anything it says "sorry, theres not enough space to install this item" any help on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated
clockwork recovery -> disable voodoo to turn voodoo off . on the other hand factory data reset , and last one u didnt press repartition in while in recovery if not ,dont ever just for reference ;p
I have a similar but maybe worse situation . I flashed the same kernel (because I was not aware it was in the ROM nor aware of its effects) I posted that it erased my SD card and someone replied telling me to ODIN back a stock voodoo kernal which I. While booting i heard the voice that tells me about the re-partitioning going on. I think the last one i heard was it trying to mess with the system partition. It sat there for over 25 minutes doing nothing. I gave up on that. Now I cannot flash ANYTHING. I have tried flashing things from Clockwork but it all errors out because of the partitions not being there i assume. I tried using ODIN to flash back a stock rom and that doesn't work either, the phone just reboots and sits at the Vibrant screen forever. PLEASE HELP.
that did the trick thanks a lot!!!!!!!!
Edited .....ahh if you need hyelp i can help you convert your to conver your internal sd back to fat32 because u converted in to ext4 thats why u soft bricked your phone . Tsk tsk

You don't need debugging mode, you need download mode. Unplug your USB cable and take out your battery for 5-10 seconds. Put you battery back in and then while holding volume up+down, plug in your USB cable. Keep holding vol up+down until you see the yellow triangle with digger android. Now you are in Download Mode and you can use Odin to flash back to stock JFD.
+1 on his advice

No problem beep. Good luck in future flashings.
I was getting an error that said E: Cant mout etc. in CWM so I wanted to just go back to stock and I followed the steps here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391 . Once Odin was finished it said passed and completed.
I was using one of the MIUI rom's previously.
Now the phone won't turn on, won't charge, nothing. I have no idea what to do.
Please help.
It looks like I can get into download mode if i take out the battery and the sd card.
Any suggestions from there?
