What exactly is it that is blocking certain apps on the market? I understand the general reason: That the market doesn't believe the NC is the compatible device. What I'm asking is, what developmentally needs to be changed (build.prop maybe?) to allow more market options. It's a pain to manually update all the sideloaded apps the market won't recognize, and the AppBrain method only works for those who were smart enough not to upgrade to the new market, since it disables the "Fast Web Installer". I'd love to look into this. I know changing build.prop directly to identify as a different device is supposed to mess up the drivers somehow; what else could be done?
Edited to add: Why is it that market enabler doesn't work on the Nook Color?
The market is based on your location. Developers can limit who can see their apps to download based on region. The market will only show apps working with your android version. If you are on android 2.1, it will not show android 2.2+ apps. In addition, older android market only show like 10 apps in portrait mode.
sorta off topic but has anyone tried these

The Market looks at multiple things on your device. It ranges anywhere from the version of Android SDK you are using to the device's location and the device type.
I've found the best method to solving this problem is to use adb to pull a copy of your build.prop file and edit it.
Follow the steps on this link: http://nookdevs.com/NookColor:_Nookie_Froyo_Tips#Access_Protected_market_apps

Thank you for this. I can not wait to get home and try it. I recently switched to the 950 Mhz Kernel posted by Geniusdog254 (running very nicely btw) and Angry Birds quit showing up in the market.
I was curious as to what else I was missing. I would love to buy and install Dungeon Hunter 2, but the only .apk's I can find online are cracked ones and it's not in the market at all for me. Hopefully this helps.

Dungeon Hunter 2 is only for the iPhone right now.
When it is available, you won't find it in the market. Gotta go directly through Gameloft.
As it stands right now, there is no way to legitimately purchase a Gameloft game for your nook. It doesn't view the nook as a compatible device. You can't buy it for your phone, and transfer the apk. That shows as an invalid copy.
Take a look through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919287
Lots of Gameloft talk.
Thanks for the heads up. I have DH 2 on iPhone but would be fine with the original on NC. I would love to be able to buy it instead of trying to bypass all that.

Yeah, I'm totally with ya.
There are even a couple of games I would be willing to purchase a second time, if they would let me.

Using bionix. Why is it that on some rom installs of the SAME rom it will show everything in the market, and other time it will not? When i first installed bionix i THOUGHT i had no problem viewing what i should be able to see. My example is gonna be Mega Jump, it downloaded through market and installed fine. Used a couple other roms, came back to bionix, now Mega Jump does not show up. My fingerprint is from the stock eclair, and i changed it to stock froyo, not that it was working with either one anyways to see if maybe it was only showing me 2.1 apps. Everything in the build.prop looks good so not sure where to go from here!
open titanium backup
look for Market
click it and wipe cache/data
still in TB, press menu > More > market doctor
let it fix any issues
go to the market and accept
go to my apps...
good?
Thanks for the quick reply!! I forgot all about seeing that option in titanium backup. Though it did link up alot of apps that i have gotten from other places, i dont think it fixed my main problem. My "control" Mega Jump still does not show up in my installed apps or even in a market search.
Should not help, but can't hurt...
Settings > Applications > All > Market (clear data/cache).
reboot
open Market, accept.. good?
I actually did that in conjunction with your previous directions! Did it again by itself and still no luck. This is not that big of a deal but i do feel like i could miss out on great apps that i may never hear/know about unless i saw them in the market.
Well, I was going to see if you could see/install it from the web market (http://market.android.com/) but it appears to be down for me... could be work pc.
I know quadarant has an enterprise and something "else" edition other than standard, are those in the market also? Cause nothing shows up for me besides standard. Thats one i been wondering about in general

Its your work pc but i am trying my android browser now...
When i do a search, it just opens up the actual market app and gives me the same skewed results UGH
You know....
Have you thought that this may be one of the malware apps google removed from the market this weekend?
"Mega Jump" does not show any results for me also. Who was the developer? Have ALL of their apps been pulled?

Not sure who the developer is but it's a huge/popular game. It's in the top 5 (at least it used to be) games for the IOS platform, and it now has a android version. So it's definitely not malware or anything. When i brought this phone home last week and wiped stock and put bionix on, it was in the market. Now that i have put a few other roms on, odin'd back, and put the setup EXACTLY how it was before, my market is not showing all apps But i do see things like adobe flash player, which means that i AM seeing copy-protected **** right? Maybe it's just this one app?
I dont think anyone ever answered my question about quadrant either...i know there is a standard, enterprise, and something else version. Are all three supposed to be in the market? Only standard shows up for me. I was actually interested in buying the paid version but there is no way to do it within the app so i just figured it SHOULD be on the market???
Alright... I'm apparently having the same issues then. I know there was an update to the market recently, but now you have me scratching my head. I do not have Mega Jump, and I only have Quadrant Std.

Any idea if the other two versions of quadarant are being offered on the market?
This may be straying off topic here, but from what i have read...the market "fingerprint" from build.prop is ONLY used to verify you have a supposed "real stock" rom and not a custom one? Or is it actually used for more than that, and the fact that our fingerprints are still on 2.1 (why is that when 2.2 exists for these devices, why wouldn't we use the newest?)...maybe thats why some things are not showing...
I called two of my friends one with a nexus one, one with the g2, both have megajump in there market.
I've searched, and I'm pretty sure this is a fairly recent problem. The market fix that sounded like to worked great doesn't anymore since the last week or so. I used arctools to install the market, but most apps I want, the ones I have used on my phone, do not show up.
I've tried the market fix according to what I've read and seen in youtubes. Doesn't work, and then I've seen others saying the same thing.
Any chance of a workaround? I just got an Archos 101, and without the market apps I like, I think it's a dealbreaker. Thanks for any help.
you could try changing the build.prop properties to GALAXY tab, (chulri method)
but first you need to root the archos (chulri method)
If, as you say, you already have them on your phone, then back them up on your phone and copy the .apk's to your Archos - it's the simplest method
Since a few weeks, the market fix on my A70 2.1.8 doesn't work.
I did a reset and downgrade from 2.3.20 to 2.1.8 and reinstalled the market, but still, the fix doesn't work.
But I see apps like Gun Bros without an other fingerprint! And I see Google Maps and Google Earth and Flash.
Very crazy.
Well, if there is no kompatibility for tablets in the market options for apps, then you can not see them on a tablet. but always more apps are marked with that flag for tablets, too. so we see them on our tablets as always more devs are building their apps for tablets and not only for phones. flash is such a thing. a big pusher for this was the galaxy tab...as it is a "big" phone although it´s a tablet....the more tablets are out the more apps will show up in the market....and for those apps are not in the market, take a phone and extract your app from your phone and push it on your tablet....

I'm having the same issue, also interested in a fix.
Any updates on this? It sucks that this worked so well early on and now it doesn't work at all...
Since I didn't see any posts about this, I thought it was just my A70. Now I know...and knowing is half the battle.
I actually had this problem, trying to find SimiFolder for my 43IT. I found the following link (blog post). It's pretty old, but I followed the instructions and found that it works.
Market Full Access Fix
Hey guys,what's up?
So,question one is about Gameloft's games.I am getting a Galaxy S 2 some time soon,so this "issue" came up.I want to buy some games from Gameloft, but I saw that downloads are device specific. Now,if I buy, let's say,Assasin's Creed for my Desire HD,will I be able to download it again for free on my Galaxy S 2(If it works, don't care,it's just an example)or will I have to rebuy it?
Question two is in regards to FPSE.I bought it yesterday from the Market and face issues.Well,I open it,change some settings, set a bios and run a game(Digimon World 3 ).The moment the game is running my settings are reset. This also happens when I change the settings(only set bios and country) and restart the app. It's like I just downloaded it.What the heck is wrong?I realised it had problems after two hours,so a refund was not possible.Plus, today's update didn't fix anything.Any ideas?
Thanks!
In case someone decides to answer,I have another problem.
I bought Asphalt 6 HD from market.I start it and it downloads some 500mb of files it needs to my SD card, but when it's done and I press "OK",instead of running it fc's.Not that I manage to read the message that appears on screen,it goes away almost instantly. All I get is a black screen, the said message and voila,I'm back to my app drawer.Any ideas? :\
I thiiiiiink Asphalt doesn't work on GalaxySII. I haven't tried personally but in the GSII forum there is a thread on what games work and its definitely on the 'does not work section...'

Firstly thanks for answering,I was a little discouraged with the support I didn't get on the topic!
Secondly,I know that it doesn't work on the GS2(that's if you don't use Chainfire3D).I am trying this on my Desire HD,the Galaxy S 2 arrives tomorrow. It also says that the download fails and I have to continue but it seems broken for some reason.Pretty ****ed up.
I brought my HTC Evo 3D from sprint and the spiderman 3D game from gameloft was there. I upgraded and brought the full game, now my phone is rooted with a new rom. Can i some how get the spiderman 3D game back on my new rooted phone?
Gameloft game's are device specific. They have a different APK file for every device, and each different APK file will ask their servers for a slightly different set of SD' files.
When you buy a game off them for a certain device, they will let you download the same APK as many times as you like. But they will not let you buy for one device, then download the APK for another device later.
Unless you bought the game from the android market of course, buy from there you can download as many times as you like from as many different devices as you like.
A theory why Gameloft games don't appear on the Android market all that much.
If you bought the Desire HD version from gameloft and it doesn't work I would contact them.
If you didn't and got the APK elsewhere, its version 3.0.9 you need for the desire hd, if you got any other version it would of downloaded the wrong SD files and would explain why it doesn't work.

I just installed it and so far it looks great. They have finally brought back the "top NEW free" and "top NEW paid" sections for those that.miss that. I know I did.
some new settings options and nice UI tweaks.
I haven't made any purchase/download yet though. Will updated this post when I do.
Hopefully google got it right this time
If you do this I would recommend making a copy of your current vending.apk in case you want to go back. I just used root explorer and copied the apk to my sdcard and installed the new market after that as normal.
Have fun
::::::UPDATE::::::
For all those who are cautious
I have successfully bought apps, updated apps, downloaded new apps, and also downloaded apps I had previously bought but hadn't had installed.
Also when you look at an app it shows you how many of each different star ratings it has.
I.e.-- 5stars:20 users
4stars:60 users
3stars:30 users
Etc..
Working smoothly all around. Much better than 3.1.5 or 3.1.3 imho
thanks man, will be uploading now!!!
I'm loving the new market. It's very polished now. The icons are now sized properly on the screen.
thx im loving the auto update
I upgraded last night and am still running into compatibility issues with certain apps ... ended up going back to trusty 2.3.6.
Is there anyone running build.prop edits (in particular, enhanced screen resolution) who has been able to get this version of the market working without any restrictions?

Yeah finally there is no lag when switching between the screens. But it's NOT faster than the old version. :/

I don't really mess wit build.prop other than vm heap, max window events, wifi scan interval.
and I have not once ever had a compatibility issue.
Did you send feedback about that to google?
They might have something you can do or may work on it for future market versions
I bought the Sims 3 a long time ago for my daughter to play on my phone and I thought I'd load it up on the Touchpad for her, but it doesn't show up in a search in Android market, and doesn't show up in my app list as purchased. If I go to the market on my PC though, it's there and showing purchased. I try to send it to my TP as a HP GT-i9100 and it never sends it. My build.prop has been edited to a GT-i9100.
Thoughts on this issue?
There are threads on this topic already. The gist of it is you're going to need to sideload a backup from your phone. Changing your build.prop to a Nexus S will allow you to download it from the market, but once you launch it you'll still need to download the sum of the game from EA's servers, which won't be fooled.
You need to install the game on your phone, back up the apk and the downloaded data from the android system folder on the SD card, and then transfer them to your touchpad.

From what I understand, EA has not updated the game for ICS and I am personally not convinced it can be made to work until (if!) they update it.
I had my build.prop set to a T989 Samsung Galaxy S II and under this setting it did show up in CM7 but it is not showing up with the same build.prop settings in CM9 which is making me think the issue is not the device setting but the actual version of the OS. Comments in the reviews seem to confirm it does not work with ICS and EA has not gotten off their ass to update the game since September, which is BEFORE ICS was even released.
I suppose it might be possible to obtain the apk from some, ahem, unofficial source (and before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I paid for the app a while back it just won't show in the market anymore) and sideload it.
Even if you do that and manage to get it to load and then load the data from another device there is still the issue that the game is made for 16:9 aspect ratio and will not work properly on 4:3. The only way I know of to fix that is to get hacked files that force a 16:9 ratio (with a portion of the bottom of your screen unusable) and I don't believe there is an ICS version of those files, just Gingerbread.
TL;DR - I'm not convinced it can be made to work under ICS and to even attempt it is a huge pain in the ass.

It works fine on ICS. I have it running on alpha .6. The problem is the unsupported touchpad resolution of the TP messes up all the onscreen touch buttons. Maybe EA will update it in the future.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think Android is much of a priority for EA right now.
I did a full wipe when updating to CM9 and reinstalled everything but haven't been able to reinstall Sims due to it as far as I can tell being blocked for ICS. Have you had luck getting it to show up in the market with a particular build.prop under CM9 or did you already have it installed from CM7?
I'm afraid the whole aspect ratio issue makes it not really playable though. I was using the hack posted here that forces 16:9 and it did work fine under that but those files were meant for CM7 and I have my doubts that they will work for CM9.
Anyway, it requires manually copying files, changing permissions and rebooting back and forth which is a pain in the butt. :-/
