[Q] Bricked and cant get past phone+comp symbol - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to flash to stock via odin and when i tried to go to download mode i got the phone ! Computer symbol. I've tried removing sim and pressin vol up and down and plugging in the cord. Not working. I'm really worried because i have used odin numerous times and this is the first time i have not been able to go to download mode. Can anyone please help me through this?

Open up odin and plug in your phone to the computer but Take out the battery first.. after its plugged in hold down volume up and down and power. Then while still holding the volume rockers and the power put the battery back in. Odin should then recognize your phone so you can flash back to stock.

That has always worked for me. If not, install the Android SDK and use adb to run "adb restart download" (without quotes.) There are tons of tutorials on how to do it online. Google is your friend

[Q] Kind of a brick question.

Hey everyone.
So the other day I got excited about the CM7. I was following the steps to install it. i made a mistake. after i flashed the kernel. i rebooted my phone now all i get is a screen with picture of phone with a yellow triangle attached to a pc.
The thing i've tried to do was
1.take out the battery
2. take out the sim(which was already taken out to be in my gs4g)
3.took sd card out.
4.plug usb into phone and computer
5.put battery in while hitting the vol +/- minus rocker and nothing happens.i have odin open when I( try this.
my computer just wont pick it up.
when I plug in my gs4g it picks it up right away.
I've spent all weekend working on this.
also i think they only way before hand for me to get into download/recovery was for me to use adb. could that be why I'm not getting any progress?
Thanks in advance. Also sorry if this question has been asked so many times..
Is your problem getting into download mode? Or is it that you get into download mode but Odin won't recognize the device?
If its the former, getting into download mode is a bit tricky in CM7, I've done it plenty of times though. This worked for me.
1. Unplug the usb cord.
2. Pull out the battery.
3. Plug usb cord in.
4. Hold down vol+ & vol- and power button
5. You will see the loading circle or whatever it's called, when the screen goes black let go of power button.
You should be in download mode now. Sometimes you won't get the loading screen and the phone'll just boot up, if so pull the batt and try again.

I've done that many times. I've tried for several hours during the weekend. Also CM7 is not installed yet. was in the middle of installing then this happend.
just open odin and plug your phone in to your pc and see if you get a COM port...if you do then flash it from there..

not getting that at all no com ports show up.. I'm going to try this on a different computer.
When I get the black screen with that icon in the middle and I plug it in, Odin recognizes it right away. Furthermore, I've only gotten it before when I go into download mode(yellow sign + android sweeping) and Odin doesn't recognize my phone and I pull the battery then turn it back on.
Get odin up usb cord connected to the computer but not the phone
Remove the sim card the sd card and the battery and do the vol up and down boot. Then while holding the vol buttons down at the same time plug in the usb.
That should get you back to recovery.
READ the STICKY for NOOBS......... S15274N did a wonderful job of explaining all the methods on how to get into recovery from a soft brick
good luck

I've been trying all of those methods. Before this happened the only way for me to get into download was using adb reboot download command in adb.
The computer does not recognize in odin. I've tired this on two computers now.
I have all the drivers installed. i uninstalled ed reinstalled etc. used two different usb cables etc.
not sure what else to try. other than a baseball bat....
so i looked around and i bought a jig on ebay from skisky1. hopefully it will be here soon . to try this out .

[Q] Possible Brick unsure how to fix

I bought a samsung vibrant off of ebay the other day so i could retire my HD 2, well im trying to upgrade the thing to froyo and well when i plugged into odin and what not went through the process and now i cant get past boot loader my volume buttons are flipped and also i can slelect because it wants me to press the okay button, ive done research and having a tough time finding a fix. im thinking that i flashed a standard galaxy S rom by accident.... havent been able to get it into download mode so far,,,, help me out please im stuck and i dont wanna get.......!!!!!
Install Samsung USB Drivers and Odin. Look up how to use Odin and download the appropriate files. Shut off phone, hold both power buttons, plug into computer. If you see a yellow triangle you're good and flash back to stock.
Sounds like you are on the right track, you just need to install adb on to your pc. Once you complete that you can type in 'adb reboot', and depending what you are trying to accomplish you can go from there.
As far as dl mode goes, try:
Taking out the batt
Plug in your usb cable to your phone and pc
While holding the volume keys put the battery back in.

Ive tried that method before as well i do it and it will jump me right into the recovery screen and then i can scroll up and down with the volume but can slelect because of not having the okay button, i also just ran into another screen which is the POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE, not sure what to do now...... im able to get it to register as a com point on odin but wont go any further

problem downloading

at the moment, when i try to boot the phone i'm getting the pic with the phone and the computer with the little yellow triangle in the middle. every once and a while i can get it to the download screen, but when i do, and i try to open odin, odin wont see the phone. if i disconnect and reconnect it will see the phone, but i cant download anything.
is there an update.zip i can load onto the sd card that i can use to have it boot correctly without getting the pic of the phone and computer?
or some way i can get odin to see my phone so i can load CWM recovery?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
ok well after going nuts for a while, i figured it out, to get into downloading i was holding down the vol-down while hitting power with the usb plugged in. then i read that you are supposed to start with the phone off, hold down vol-down and insert usb.... bingo!
/sigh
I love that screen lol. It reminds me to only use Heimdall instead of odin.
If I were you I would reinstall the samsung drivers and then try it. If that doesn't work you can try heimdall.

A lot of people prefer to pull the battery for flashing. Then when you hold vol dn & power it immediately goes into download mode.

[Q] Cannot Root After 2.3 Update

I just updated to Android 2.3 but I don't like it. So I decided to flash back to 2.2 via ROM Manager. I tried to root the phone with Super One Click v1.9.1. But it got stalled at running psnueter and later gave an error message. I tried a few other tricks but nothing was working. So I decided to do the manual flash with Odin. When I tried to boot into download mode, the phone jut booted as normal. I tried by turning the phone off, plugging in the USB cable and then booting it while holding the volume buttons. I tried again using the similar method but with the battery pulled then reinserted. Again, it booted as normal. I then tried using my jtag dongle which I made a long time ago, and the phone still booted as normal. After some playing with the phone, I have found the phone doesn't seem to be entering debugging mode (when I plug in the cable with debugging mode activated, I just see a USB symbol and I can open the notifications menu and select it where it allows me to connect to phone to the computer as if in mass storage mode.) I am stuck and have no idea how to fix this. Anyone out there have any ideas?
I found out, with Gingerbread 2.3 you only hold the volume down button. Hope this helps others!
Did you perhaps also install a different bootloader? They change the shortcuts used to get into download or recovery mode sometimes, so try booting holding down just one volume up or down button.

Actually it is like this: recovery= volume down+ power and download mode= volune up+ power.

[Q] stuck on vibrant logo

so i was reflashing to cm7 #71 last night and i always do a clean install by formating boot system and cache. after i formated the 3 idk why but i let the phone shut off.
now i am stuck at just the vibrant logo. i have tried getting into cwm and download mode with no success. i plugged it in to the computer to see if i can at least access to adb no help there either.
does any body have a solution to this on this?
Um, first question; why do you format /boot? No where in any directions do they tell you to format that as that's where you're kernel is located.
And, if you can't access dl mode with the hardware buttons, why didn't you headed the large red letters telling you not to use CM7 if you can't access dl mode without the hardware buttons?
Have.you tried vol+ vol- and then USB? If you're running gb bootloaders (which you shouldn't be), then I don't know the button combo.
But the only way to recover is by geting into dl mode and Odin back to jfd.

I always format/ boot. Its a cleaner install and have no problems going from multiple kernel changes. I could get into download using button combo before I flashed. Now I cant

try this always works. take battery out phone, plug in usb to pc and phone hold vol + and -, and insert battery at same time, should put u in download mode.
Assuming u have a froyo bootloader
1) Power down ur phone
2) hold volume up + volume down then plug ur phone to a PC or laptop....don't let go of two volume buttons...
3) should b in download mode...

ive tried every combo i can think of. still just sits at vibrant. was able to make a jig that put it into DLM but then was getting reconized at all by my computer even with all the correct drivers..... i think i actually might be outta luck
You could get a JIG which will automaticly put it into download mode. It can be found here http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0053H73JQ/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/188-7446597-2980456

@halo
yea i was able to make one for 2 dollars and it works beautifully just now i cant get the computer to reconize the phone. i have the right drivers loaded but its seeing it as some crazy junk
edit: well got all the drivers working. made a new better jig and was able to get odin to reconize it.
didnt flash though. seemed jammed up. so i took it off of odin which left the phone in the phone to computer screen( PROGRESS) plugged it back into the computer. odin saw it and presto! back up and running on JFD
Ditto
I have done the same thing! Sent you a pm... Let me know what driver config you had to use to get it working.
Thanks!
