Hey guys I know everyone's excited about this but there's one bad side to it. This thing may be unrootable but I'm sure the geniuses here will crack it. But unfortunately the bootloader will now be even harder to crack. And most countries won't get the update so you'll have to get the global update from here which isn't a problem for me. But if we root Xperia arc we can most likely root our new x10. We need a preview so we can work on this

Simple answer: Gingerbread 2.3.3 on X10 is built upon the same thing as Arc... if u can root Arc, u can root X10... simple.... Richard on the SEBlog already made it very clear that they are building 2.3.3 for X10 based on what they have for Arc.... I think by then, bootloader cracking should be pretty much out of the picture cos everyone will update to gingerbread.... and then most of their mobile contracts would be up in prob a few more months and they would upgrade to a 2.4 device....
But we cannot lose root either way. I want this but they have to lift the frames per second cap limit and enable 16 million colors then root or not I'm going to it because that's all what kernels will do anyways so its awesome

I've tried rooting a preview version of the Arc using SuperOneClick but it failed so I hope the devs can get root on 2.3.x.
Video coming soon.

I believe that the current rooting methods used on the X10 do not work on Android 2.2.1 or newer firmware. In Android Source code, Google has patch the security hole that allowed for these to work.

dont worry guys.... all that we need are the kernel sources... leave the rest to Bin4ry, J and the team...
Don't worry we'll get this down. The only gingerbread rooted so far is nexus s. We need to know how they did it. Otherwise we can always use a custom rom from here

Can you all stop posting this the whole planet knows it now im tired of this in all sections theres like 20thread about this ****ing gingerbread --
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
we have 6 months or so until release, so I'm sure the experts have more than enough tine to figure it out
Lol yep and everyone needs to update to generic firmware. If you get generic you'll be the first to have gingerbread when it releases. That is how I got the official Sony Ericsson dual touch update.

Anyone have any ROMS for the xperia x10 2.3.3 and above?
Have you checked the xperia development forum. And apart from some very glitchy honeycomb roms 2.3.3 is going to the newest rom you can get.

I couldnt find any romsfor 2.3.3 just 2.2.1
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
well maybe you should try and check these awesome thread.
btw its just a ported rom, so dont expect it the SE ginggerbread version.
here you go.
for X10 mini Pro
Cyanogen Mode 7 Gigglebread Mini Pro
for x10 mini
Cyanogen Mode 7 Gigglebread Mini
owh and one more thing i believe that this thread only for x10mini/pro.
thanks anyway for reading.
I've recently read that there's coming an official fw of 2.3 for all xperia devices in late q2/early q3, so just hold on and it will come.

sony did announced that x10 are getting 2.3 update and it's official.
you can read it on their official web site.
but not sure if x10mini/pro are going to get the update.
read it HERE
According to their product blog, only the X10 will get gingerbread.
"Will you upgrade the XperiaTM X10 mini, mini pro and XperiaTM X8 to 2.3?
No, we have no such plans. We have had to prioritize our resources and have therefore focused on delivering the upgrade to XperiaTM X10."

I'm sorry for not being allowed to post a link
Well that's a big dissapoinment to all mini and pro user.
Btw, our mini and pro won't get rotten without se official update, there's still tons of devs here porting giggerbread for our devices.
Such as owain,
Jarpalea, nobodayatall . . . Etc.
Instead of feeling down, why don't you guys try and check their custom ginggerbread rom.

Well, to me its kind of a latteral move as they are very similar hardware wise and both have dt issues. I'm sure the nexus one is or has been well supported but to me the x10 scene is really getting interesting with the kernals coming up. Nexus one will already have everything final. Boring to me.

Thanks for the reply mate but i dont know i left an live wallpaper the one whit the water and.leaves thingy that comes stock for all android 2.1 and mine was lagging as hell and on the nexus was great lol

As the Nexusone is basically a dev phone and has pretty much already had everything done to it, I would say keep your x10.
However if you have played your x10 out and want to play with something different, then why not?
I personally wont get rid of my x10 for sometime. New kernels coming out to modify it even more....
X10 is my friend
Thanks mates i have maked up my mind and im keeping my x10 for gingerbread 2.3.3 release by se and custom kernels is coming out soon

Not sure if this has been said, the Sony PC companion software has just updated today on my laptop.
Does anyone think the new 2.3 gingerbread rom is imminent ?
I am a UK Sony x10 user.
Thoughts on this anyone ?
Not anytime within the next two months im sure.
I do not think that
They stated Q2/Q3 which is June/July for Sony-Ericsson. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed by a month.
I'd expect it around July/August. If it comes out before, at least I could feign happy surprise
User unknown13x who has some connections to SE and has been right about a lot of stuff, said in a thread I can't seem to be able to find right now, that the update is scheduled for release in the last week of june or so.
Edit:

we already have several custom gingerbread roms here...

BTW why do people still care about se's future updates when we're gonna hav much better 2.3 roms before that!

What? I am checking for updates daily! But that is because i am more interested in the kernel than the rom.

They'll release it when they're good and ready. Do recall, folks, this is Sony Ericsson we're talking about. They release things on THEIR schedule, nor ours.
To prove this point, look to 2010, when they said that Éclair was to be released in mid Q2, then early Q3, then mid Q3, then end Q3, then finally pushing it back into November, and even December for some people.
Shtuff happens, and we'll get it when we get it. I for one am content as is right now with my TripNMiUI Gingerbread build. And there are many, MANY more over in the Development forum for you to take a peek at in the meantime.

Does anyone know how to go back to 1.6 stock on our vibrants.
Vibrant stock out of the box was 2.1.
I think there is a thread in the general section that details how to use Odin to flash it back to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
so there is no way to go back to the o.g. 1.6
Like HeavyA said, the stock for the vibrant was 2.1 (Eclair) not 1.6 (Donut)
You can certainly flash back to stock, but that will be the original 2.1.
The A10, the Zio, the Xperia X8 ran 1.6, but even in 2010 most phones were already updated to 2.1, or even 2.2 GB.
Why are you trying to flash donut to the vibrant? Let's be clear though, you can't flash donut to the vibrant (as far as I am aware of), it was never designed to run on the Vibrant. And no developers would be interested in porting an archaic rom...that's like buying a brand new iMac only to run System 0.8.5 (Mac's original OS). It just doesn't make sense.
...And again, like both Xenoism and HeavyA said, Android v2.1 (Eclair) was the out of the box stock for the Vibrant. So if there was something you liked about Android v1.6 (Doughnut), you'll have to find another device that came with it or bribe a developer... However if you want to revert back to Eclair, then that's no problem! Just follow this guide found here.
I wanna see 1.6 lol, i never seen it... any devs have too much time on your hands?

Short and simple vibrant never has 1.6 and never will. It's old we don't have a kernel for it and it would not make full use out of our devices
