I am new to this website and sorry if I am in the wrong section but not sure the tech term of my issue, but I have Droid Eris on Verizon (well page plus) in Tampa, FL area and I am getting weak signal and did some reading about "flashing my radio" to get better signal and better battery life, I have 2.1 android running on my phone and I am wondering can I flash the radio while my phone is activated in service?
I read somewhere that your phone has to be unlocked in order to flash the radio?
was told this version or whatever works good: Telus v1.04.05v
Tried searching for my exact issue but could not locate it, please help, thanks
You posted this in the wrong section. should be in Q&A or general.

I heard its possible to flash the radio so it match the US and Canada frequencies to get 3G data instead of EDGE
Can someone Help me. I found a link to the Radio roms but no step by step flashing guide.
I have a european Hero Downgraded to version 2.73.405.5 on Baseband version 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18.
How can I make it work on 3G cause right now I can only acces EDGE. With ROGERS Canada
Thanks to all of you guys (& girls) because this is new to me and seriously, some of you are really talented.
seriously dude, that has been asked several times, is not possible and belongs not in this category.
OK man sorry about that was not there for the past years reading all the threads ever created... I did some search and wasnt able to find specific guide about that...
Forget about it and have a nice day.
i recently read that it is possible on some winmo phones to use the radio matching your network on a different phone. comes with the downside that reception goes down to (i would think) unusable level, because the hardware is not meant to work on these frequencies. it is more of a "side effect" that it works at all. i have not read of something like this happening at all for a hero.
I'm running N_01.92.00R radio on T-mobile UK.
From reading the forum for several months now, I see that people have better battery life on other radios.
Where do I find a list of them and how to know which one is good?
From what I read is it true that if I flash an USA radio I will get crappy signal?
Thanks.
search before asking.
tips ... use keyword "Atrix Radios"
I read a few threads and am confused, so I thought I would just ask. I have a few 4G LTE devices for Verizon and am ready to switch to AT&T. Let's just say that Verizon and I had an argument and it is time to switch. Plus I would be saving over $50 to switch to AT&T with a month to month with a BYOP plan.
I visited the AT&T store today and had them insert a SIM into my S4. I get the error "This SIM card is from an unknown source" in the banner. I get a signal strength and a H for where the data symbol 4GLTE is. Then it drops the signal and refuses to have a data connection. At this time the APN settings were NOT adjusted. This was a straight out of the box S4 rooted on NC5 with Android version 4.4.2. After messing with the S4 for awhile he moved to the S3 and entered the proper APN settings. It pulled data, but only at EDGE speeds or 1X. Also, my last device, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, has no way of editing the APN settings. It is NOT rooted and is still on stock firmware.
My questions are these:
1. Can this be done?
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
I do not want to purchase phones with AT&T today because I just don't have the money. I already have these devices, I just want to swap them over. I am comfortable with flashing using ODIN and even so far as using safe-strap. I have flashed some custom roms, but my phone is a daily grind phone and I really want something that works 90% of the time.
Thanks in advance for any help!

It was an answer to this same question asked by you. This thread is redundant.

That thread just asks if the SIM card would work and if they would need to flash a GSM ROM to their S4. That thread does not answer the questions I asked. I just gave my insight after a visit with the AT&T store. Store techs tend to not know as much as the XDA community. That is why I asked here. So no, it is not a redundant thread. I appreciate your answer, but it isn't what I am looking for. Not a straight up yes or no, this or that.
As for the GSM locks I discussed, it was from an experience I had with a Motorola Droid 2 and using it on a local GSM provider in the USA. So yes, that was pre LTE.

My point, which you apparently missed, is that there is no reason for starting up yet another thread to ask questions that have already been answered. That''s why I said that this is redundant.
OK, let me answer your questions.
1. Can this be done?
Yes, you can install an AT&T SIM, set up the APN, and it will work. What bands you get and what bandwidth you get depends on what bands AT&T are using in your area. You won't likely be able to get LTE speed; most likely just Edge. You can't fix that, as it's a limitation of the phone's radio hardware. Again, some people have made claims that you can flash the AT&T GS4 modem on a Verizon phone and change that, but that's pretty risky as it will likely brick your phone.
2. What do I need to do to the phone(s)/tablet to make it work?
It works, for some level of "work". If you're stock, some people have reported that the firmware requires CDMA for some functions, like SMS. I haven't verified that. I was able to send SMS with my phone and a UK SIM which uses the AT&T network.
3. Will I be able to get 4G speeds?
Not likely. For example, see here http://phandroid.com/2012/12/10/nexus-4-att-lte/ - the common band, LTE Band 4, has limited AT&T coverage.
I haven't gone over the specs of the two phones lately to match them up, so that may be worth looking at again.

Thank you for your answer. I decided to trade the phones into AT&T and get a credit towards a Samsung S4 and a Asus Padphone X. After I read a few more posts over the internet and a few more hours figuring out how LTE works I came across the answer. I did miss what you meant and I apologize. Again, thank you for your answer.
Hi, everyone. I got my mother's lg g3 verizon phone when she passed away, and while I know that verizon phones are unlocked, I cannot use data with my French carrier. Verizon can't help, so I'm kinda sick. It's a much nicer phone than I can afford, so I really would like to use it. I think I have to change the APN settings, but I have no idea how, or what to change. Can anyone here help?
Hi! Please post questions in the Q&A section. I'll ask a moderator to move the thread.
I don't have any knowledge myself regarding changing APNs on the VS985, but it's possible that unlocking some of the other radio frequencies used might help too. I don't have personal experience with that either, but there are threads in this section having to do with that, maybe in Q&A too. Use the search field on both sections for "unlock" and you should find something.
I would guess that your first step is to make sure that the carrier you want to use it with uses any of the radio frequencies that are available on this variant. Some of the threads you find in the search results might list what all this phone supports, then you'd have to compare that to information about what your carrier uses.
Hey folks. I will living in Kuwait for the next year, and I brought my Verizon LG G3 VS985. Once I got here, I purchased a Kuwaiti SIM that runs off ZAIN towers, and a 4G mobile hotspot. This works great and I can connect all my devices, but it's a pain to lug around a hotspot with me when I am out. I read online my G3 is factory unlocked, but when I put the SIM in my phone, it tells me a non-Verizon SIM has been inserted. I have played with all of the mobile network settings, and I can register on the local Kuwait networks, but my phone will never connect. I have tried global, LTE, GSM, UMTS, CDMA, 3GPP multi, etc. In the status bar, the signal strength and type of network will change accordingly, but will always be grayed out. I am trying to figure this out, but it's driving me crazy.
Can any of you experts help me out?
Thank you in advance.
I can only give a little info, but not really what you're looking for. To be clear, the phone is unlocked. The complaint that you have a non-Verizon SIM inserted is more informational/annoyance. To my understanding, it doesn't keep you from using any other SIM, it just annoys you when you do. *If* you were rooted, I believe the G3TweaksBox Xposed module has an option to take care of that, but verify that before quoting me on it.
I know one key item to keep in mind is that the VS985 only handles certain radio frequencies, and they might not match all of the frequencies that your current network requires, or there might only barely be some overlap.
There are some radio frequencies that can be unlocked on the VS985. There are informational threads in the General section and maybe some in the Q&A section that might help as well. When viewing the General section, use the search box near the top right if on a web browser (not Tapatalk) and I'd try the keyword "unlock" or try "radio" or "frequency", "frequencies", or "band". "unlock" and "band" might produce the most appropriate search results.
Speaking of General and Q&A sections, in the future please post new question threads in Q&A. I'll ask a moderator to move this thread there.
I know I've seen one of the informational threads I think in this section and someone lists the frequencies that are able to be unlocked on this phone. The information might not be in the first post of the thread - I don't recall as I've never had to unlock any bands for my use. From there, if I were you I'd try to find out what bands your current network requires or supports, to find out if unlocking any particular bands might help.
Good luck!
