[Q] phone dies and wont turn back on at around 87-76% - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this has been happening for a while now and its rather frustrating.
i charge my phone everynight to 100%, its barely used in the office and then i go to the gym. when my phone hits around 87% it will just turn off, no notice nothing. it will just go dead and wont turn back on at all, until plugged into a power supply.
when the phone turns back on it will tell me the battery is at 87% (or whatever it is, but its not anywhere near dead).
i have tried clearing the battery stats in multiple places. at 87% then charge and drain, from dead and then power fully and drain. from full, then drain and charge fully. and it still keeps happening.
can anyone give any clues as to what is causing this? could it be a faulty cell in the battery?? or battery memory? it didn't happen when i was running stock firmware, but i cant see how it would be related to the firmware. i was using Free X10 up until yesterday when i installed the CM6.1.1 (although it is stilll based on the FreeX10 firmware..
any help would be great, im bored of always having to have a charger on me.

Have you tried reinstalling the rom, to see if the problem comes back?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

this is a fresh install of the CM6.1.1 rom but the problem happened before on Free x10 and i always did a fresh install.
although, i am using the restore data partition to restore everything, could that effect it?
perhaps ill backup using mybackup pro and reinstall the rom. fingers crossed!

Ok try that. Good luck!

x10 shutting off like it is out of battery.

Hello!
So recently my phone has been shutting down on me. particularly when the battery level goes down to 40%. below that if I do anything heavy, such as making a phone call, loading up facebook, or watch a video/surf the web the phone will go android system shutting down like it is out of battery.
WHen i try to boot up again it will do the same thing once the OS starts up, pretty much rightaway.
I am not sure why. I have been running feralabs and have tried thgo. They all do that. I tried reflashing back to the original factory firmware, but to no avail.
Anyone know what the problem might be?
thanks!
ps. the battery charging is quite fast... gets full in a very short period of time.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Get back to stock using seus/pc companion and see if its the same.If so,try a new battery, and if its the same then maybe faulty phone.

I faced this problem only when i m using 1 of my third party backup battery. i think it is battery issue.
Battery calibration- wrong kernel , go back on stock, search for Flashtool and download a generic Firmware, if you cant update via SEUS or PC Companion.
Problem with Battery happens, if you switch/flash Roms battery bat log gets wrong information.

Neo ICS cannot charge while off

After updating to ICS I cannot charge my phone while it's off.
I always charge the phone during the night and never let it fully die but today I didn't see that the battery level is so low and my phone died now I cannot turn it on to charge it. I get constant reset, my LED flashes blue/red and it resets non stop.
2 nights ago forgot about that problem and woke up at 3 o'clock to find out that my phone has been restarting for about 4 hours.
Give any advice.
P.s. My girl's also with Neo, also updated to 4.0.4, same problem there...

I just found out after reading your post that I have the same problem but I removed some app so don´t know if has anything to do with removed app!
Downgraded to GB and you can charge your phone normally. After be careful to don´t let your phone battery complete drain.
I am trying some roms besides official to see if I found out one that can allow charging in off mode. Is annoying this….
EDIT1: I just made a clean update from GB to ICS without removing any app or installing any different kernel and is charging in off mode.
So this behavior any something to do or with removed app or with different kernel installation!
Have to find out.
EDIT2: No. Is not Kernell issue or Super User that I just flash by CWM. So last option is any removed app or eventually any combination of factors.
Yes, I am in the process of downgrading, good thing is that we have two Neo's so I can use the other one's battery
Dudes! I managed to charge my phone but darn it wasn't easy.
Now one of these is on the way: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190586739151?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Are you sure it's a hardware issue, because I've tried 4 different ICS ROMs (Stock ICS, JJDoctor's, KA20 and AOSP 4.0.4) and I've been able to charge my phone while off in all of them.
Maybe getting your phone to a service center will find the culprit.

Is not a hardware issue.
I also had the same problem but now I don´t!!!
I downgrade to GB and flash ICS again and problem is gone.
Why? Don´t know.
Probably is a combination of things.
I never said anything about hardware issue. At least don't remember it.
After flashing back to GB and upgrading to ICS the problem was gone until I removed all apps that don't use directly from system/vendor/app
Now I cannot charge again but hopefully I won't leave my battery to totally die again.

Chargemon, if I'm not mistaken, is replaced when installing cwm. This means I should be facing this problem as well. Let me check...

EDIT: I couldn't replicate the problem. The phone started charging normally when off. A few seconds in the light went from green to red, but I think it recalculated the battery from 90% to 89%, hence the switch. Perhaps this only happens when the battery is fully drained?

possible brick w/ no dl mode?!?

Last night I installed 7-22 JB kt Kernel over 7-20 CM 10 (wiped cache, dalvik, and fixed permissions) and had an extremely strange issue. I plugged my phone in and all was good, charging ect. When I went to sleep I had my phone plugged in to charge since battery was quite low. I woke up and picked up my phone to check emails and my phone was off. I booted it back up and noticed I only had 7% left on batt. So I checked battery usage in settings and saw a bunch of spaces like the phone was turned off then back on numerous times (50+ times). and in between restarts were marks on charging bar too. So I went out to do my daily things and charged my phone. (it would only charge to 60%all day) I used my phone alot and the battery died because I was not near a charger. Now phone will vibrate and led will flash but not charge. I cant get into download mode either. I'm hoping its just a glitch with my battery or sonething but I'm getting no response from phone after it vibrates.
Edit: I have ss of battery but cant access phone
U can try zo pull out the bat for at least 10 minutes then insert it back and see if that fixes your issue got that once in the past on my sgs2 while flashing a corrupted 3 part rom and fixed it this way

Phone shutting off and random battery %s on reboot

For a couple weeks now, ever since I had to fix my Music player not showing my files, my phone has had this weird habit:
It'll be plugged in. All the time. Pretty much 24/7. But as soon as I take it off the charger - give or take a few minutes - it will turn off. No warning. No nothing. To turn the phone back on, it has to be charging. When I turn it back on, the battery % will be anywhere between 0% and 100%.
I have no idea what's going on, and it's making it impossible to use the phone off the charger without the battery charger pack. And that lasts what - an hour at best?
I thought it might be the ROM I had installed, and I was going to revert to the stock ROM today, but I instead upgraded from 2.3.7 LiquidSmooth to LiquidSmooth's new ICS ROM. I thought it would work, but after setting everything up and letting go of the charger, it died again in a couple minutes. The difference this time was that it showed the htc screen, but then went black and nothing. With the old rom, it just went black and done.
I apologize if there's another thread on this, but I haven't been able to find anything online in the past week or three.
Thanks in advance.
Mine has been doin the same thing. Sometimes being difficult to turn back on. Totally stock phone. I think mostly when plugged in. I will try to keep track.

So far today it has shut down 3 times. Once while plugged in and twice not. All 3 times sent the batt from 3/4 charge to under 5% when I fired the phone up. I am usingthe stock batt but am going to maybe wedge somethingbetween the batt and the cover to see if it wil do anything. I dont want to do a full reset.....i may be switching to the galixy 3. But rumers of a 4 in beginning of 2013 may have me holding off.

I new battery fixed my problem

Yeah sounds like the battery has given up the ghost.
My phone has been doing this as well. This is the stock battery from March 2010. This only happens when Im not on WiFi. Also this only started after I flashed from the ICS leak to another ROM. I think its strange, but I ordered a new battery to be sure.

My vibrant turns off by itself and it's unusable

Secuence of events that happened BEFORE the problem started:
1-Had a working rom of CM7.2
2-Battery was going out too quickly (7 hours or so) therefore I tried wiping battery data
3-Charged the phone
4- Unplugged it, took a picture
Problem:
One hour later I realised it was turned off...
I turned it on again, it turned off soon afterwards
for a moment it had a problem turning on (it wouldn't go past the cm logo)
afterwards it was even worse; it turned off before even passing the first logo, I couldn't even get it to recovery mode.
Solution Attempt no.1
Tried to get it to stock rom with Odin.
I was able too... but the problem persisted in the new Rom.
Solution Attempt no.2
Tried to get another rom
My situation NOW
I'm back on stock Rom. If I leave my phone alone for like an hour or so it works for 20/30 secs before turning off... After that the problem gets worse till I cannot boot.
Any ideas guys?
How old is the battery? There are apps on playstore to check your battery, thats where I would start. It doesn't sound like a Rom problem, sounds like hardware.ie battery first. Gluck.

Can't have the phone on for 1 minute, forget about downloading and using an app from the store...
I don't know if it's a hardware problem since it happen really suddenly...and just the day after I resetted the battery stats ..... Maybe it is a hardware issue but I want to be sure I tested everything first
Hey, maybe you moved on but I was having the same issue on every ROM.. stock or not. being the detective I am I investigated and inspected.
One of my battery connecting pins is loose even though it's pressed tightly in the case any moderate amount of force or impact loosens it from the contacts.
My temp solution for you would be to add something to the back cover to apply enough pressure to keep the battery still or resolder the copper connectors. The first being easier.
Hit thanks if that helps.
Invest in a new battery. Simple solution.
