App that adds fake LED notification on screen - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Hi guys,
The dell streak doesnt have an LED to use for notifications or charging status.
fear not! This app has you covered!
http://www.appbrain.com/app/noled/com.led.notify
when your screen is off, you can have a icon displayed onscreen (while the rest of the screen isnt lit up) for txts, missed calls, gmail, email, calander, gtalk, charging status etc
all customised, any colour!
Enjoy!
(works on my DJSteves 1.7)

Tried it but notificatons not working. I use ICE as my lockscreen. I wonder if that is interfering? The test worked. I also use nolock to block stock lockscreen.
I wish it would work as it is a great idea!

i have no lock screen mods and it works great, only little thing is that i have to have the widget on the home screen =S know if i can remove it after ive turned noled on?

ICE lockscreen was messing NoLED up. When I turned off ICE, NoLED worked.
You can remove homescreen widget, but you have no easy way to disable NoLED if it malfunctions.

Does not work with a replacement lock screen.
Only shows notices for messages, emails, etc, that arrive when the screen is off, so if you ignore a text or email when doing something else no reminder when you lock the screen.
Other than those two limitations it works fine.
NoLED FAQ and dev home page - these are good reading and summarize a lot of what you'll find in the development thread.

I do not think it's a good idea on our device. LED displays like the sgs's use much less juice than our LCD ones, plus I don't really know how it works on LEDs but in LCD there is always a lamp that is turned on despite it being almost all black. it could like suffer from excessive usage. plus, the three softbutton LEDs stay lit all the time with this app.
i'm absolutely not saying the app is bad, just i think it was not designed for our phone.
streakled is better (although it only displays sms)

Totally agree, great idea and with the display time set to something short I guess its usable, but the streak backlight is power hungry, the phone wouldn't last half a day with it always on.

Guys,
Why don't you use StreakLed 2.0.3? It's gree on the Market. Give it a try

Request: Camera LED Flashlight

Has anyone been able to find a working app that allows us to use the camera's LED Flash as a torch?
I've tried the various ones on the market place but no joy as of yet.
Would anyone care to have a crack at making one? Pleease
I have also been searching for this, I did find motos flashlight...but it didnt work on the streak
nobody got any ideas?
Wow am i missing this.
i live in the country and was always using the LED on my SE X1 as a torch especially in the dark nights it was a god send.
I'm hoping that once the septics ;-) get their Streaks some developers will pop out of the woodwork...hmm I wonder if Fards will have a crack at it?
would love this i couldnt find a led flashlight app that works on this or the htc evo 4g
I thought I'd give this a bump, now that our American cousins are piling in
I'm pretty sure none of the current apps will help us, it will have to be made specifically for the streak. Not sure how to go about making that kind of app, but it can't be too hard... right?
I'll look into it.

The htc evo 4g ver 2.2 comes with a flashlight that uses the camera's led's. Has 3 levels of brightness.
Maybe
I have a week off work and was going to knuckle down and get into some coding - i've never done Java before but I have the SDK and have found the resource documents for using the built in camera, and also the flash module.
I've got it worked out on a very very high level: include the camera library and set the flash to on or off. Beyond that I don't have a clue.
If I am successful, I am going to base this on the application for WM called TorchButton which I have been using on my HD2 for some time. It has on/off, SOS, strobe function.
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581382 for TorchButton thread. I doubt this dev would port this to Android as it's very different code for WM/Android, but if you have a HD2 I would highly recommend that app.
Well, I've found that Droidlight on the market successfully turns on the LEDs... the only problem is that it can't turn them back off, not even taskilling it turns them off, only a reboot- so suffice it to say that usability is limited ;-)

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding the LED control applications for Android and the camera flash light. Although LED's, they are not part of the function of the Android LED manipulator software. These applications just control the frequency and colour of handsets which have the LED notification lights on their front.

I think most people are clear but for newbies that may stumble into this thread I'll break down a description of 'LED' when referenced by apps/users etc.
Screen LED: The screen is an LED panel and some apps in the market place called LED torch are referring to the whole phone screen. They will often place a blanket colour over the entire screen (usually white) and refer to this as a torch.
Notification LED: Some android phones have small coloured LED's inserted in the sides or the top that will flash on receipt of a call or message(The Dell streak DOES NOT have any notification LED's).
Camera LED: This is the LED that sits beside the camera lens on the back of your Dell streak, It's used as a 'flash' when taking a photograph in a dark room.
The above request is for an application that will turn on the Camera LED. So that it can be used as a torch.
The camera LED is very bright and quite effective as a torch (N.B. prolonged use may/damage the LED bulb)

yes, tested now on streak with official 02 upgrade 2.1 and can confirm you that it works very well!!
good app
I suggest you to add a desktop widget to turn on/off the light
Great news Stay tuned for v2.3 next week
in the new version, in the Led Light mode, the light don't turn off..

No LED vs BLN

what do you guys use, whats more "battery friendly?"
I've used NoLED since last august, never had any battery issues. Love the idea that I can look at my phone and see gmail, gtalk, or gosms app icon on the screen if I have new messages.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I prefer bln because noled does eat more battery life because its still turning the screen on, hence: why you have to hit the home key instead of the power key to read your message. Bln is led light only. Downside is you don't know what type of message it is with bln.

Try them both and see which one you like. Neither uses much battery at all. I like no led so I can tell what messages it is.
No LED could cause screen burn in though.

I use BLN. Once you have BLN you can just go into each app that supports led notification and modify the settings there and instead of using the default bln setting you set in the bln app your phone will use those settings instead. So you can change the BLN frequency to help you distinguish between the different types of messages.

How? It doesn't stay in one place. I have never heard of any screen burn in by noled from anyone.
It could really only cause burn in if you don't have it set to move the icons every few seconds.
I prefer BLN just because its brighter, and the unlocking procedure doesn't change.
If he figures out individual light blinks, it will be even better.
I've used both, and haven't seen any excessive battery drain on either. However, both come with apps that let you configure the settings, so YMMV.

[Q] Any flashlight app or torch? CM7

Any cm7 LED torch app?
What have you tried already?
Typically I use the Tesla LED flashlight and that doesn't seem to be working.
I would think that whatever works with the Nexus S should work with the Fascinate though I cannot confirm this.
I've tried
I've tried telsa led on my phone but that doesn't work. I know the led works cuz it works with the camera app as flash. I have tried downloading all the free flash light apps but non seem to work.
I seem to remember someplace in the not so distant past that someone had it built into the CM6 for use. Perhaps that could be done. For now I am not all that worried as JT is making incredible progress with the CM7 build he is working on.
I will poke around a little more myself before I call it one way or the other though.
Ive tried every single flashlight app I could find and none work. Its weird cuz the flashlight apps see the LED but when i turn it on it doesnt turn the LED on. I love the cm7 builds and this is the last thing I would love to have working. Thanks for your help so far tho!
I use devuni.flashlight works great.
norm883
That's the app I used on com rom 2.1. But threw cm7 it doesn't work. Norm883 does it work for you on the latest build of cm7
I just tried it & its a no-good for me on cm7.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well it is good to know it's not just me or my phone. Hopefully when cm7 gets updated it will work this issue out. It's not a big deal but it is always nice to have a flashlight with you.
At the risk of being Captain Obvious here, if the LED function isn't working at the moment, most flashlight apps can also just turn your screen bright white and that's plenty bright too.
I use and would recommend Tiny Flashlight + LED as, unlike TeslaLED, there's only one version and it's free -- you don't need to buy a donate version just to get basic functionality like the screen light (unless TeslaLED has changed that, anyways).
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.devuni.flashlight
Also, you can get the pure white screen through a function in CM7. If you activate the power control widget there is an option to add a button for enabling the flash light (white screen). This doesn't help you with using the LED but for the time being until this function is added it is a nifty little feature that gives you some light with one push of a button.
Guess I'll stock with the white screen for now. It's still pretty bright but ya just can't best the led. Well thank you all for your help.
I built this from CM source a month ago, its not 100% but it works on TW builds at least. Don't try to use any of the strobe options and I've also had some strange things happen occassionally where the flashlight would turn on when I received a call.

I tried and it won't even install for me. I'm on the 0704 build of CM7 with the OTB kernel.
Still unable to find a flashlight app that makes the LED run...
I tried about 4 of them from the Market yesterday but none operated the camera flash LED. That includes one that says it is made for the Nexus, which I thought would work but did not.
TeslaLED always worked for me. Though, I have yet to test it on the new CM7.
Definitely worth a try though. GL

[Q] Screen Off App/Widget??

Has anyone found a screen off/lock app or widget that properly works with the Atrix? I have tried Extended Controls, Widgetsoid, and Screen Off and Lock. They all "work" in a sense but they also take you to the "Stock" lock screen before actually turning the screen off.
I used to use Screen Off and Lock, but it stopped working correctly with 2.3.4. I deleted it.

After looking more at this app it won't do what your looking for. The developer says there's is a new version coming soon, so maybe then it will have that feature.

Same issue. All those apps mentioned by the OP worked beautifully before 2.3.4. I really had gotten used to just pressing a widget instead of the awkward fingerprint-reader-power-button. Now they just throw you to the lockscreen.
I hope they figure out a fix.

After an update, Screen off and Lock quit. It would lock the screen, but no off, even after a long time. Uninstalled and reinstalled it. Works fine again!
But, it does take you to the system shutdown screen first!

On-screen notifications with screen off?

So, the LED is way too tiny for my aging eyes (also cannot get it to change colours with Lightflow anyway). I am looking for some sort of app that can show a notification on the screen when the screen is off. I don't want the screen to turn on. I just want some sort of icon to show up. I used to use an app called NoLed that would do this. You could customize icons for different notifications, colours, timing, duration, etc. Looks like that app is long gone.
I've been trying a bunch of different "edge lighting" apps, hoping to find one that will simply light up the edges to notify my (when the screen is off). So far, none of them work the way I want (or at all).
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Ah-ha! Thank you so much sir!
There are several drop-in AOD replacement apps, and they work well, but... From all reports they drink your battery too much to be worth it. Too bad, not sure why Huawei didn't go that next obvious step and have control over 'per app' notifications and such. It pretty much makes the stock AOD useless unless you really, really like knowing what time it is.
Maybe give a try to this, a perfect AOD application fully customizable !

I tried this and was unable to get it to work. All I want it to do is light up the edges of the screen when the screen is off and a notification comes in. I had all the settings looking like they were correct. I chose difference colours for different apps, but no go. It wouldn't even work when trying "test". It would only work with the screen on.

Same here.. 30% overall drain overnight.. Means at least 20% by the app itself
Just gave this app a try and it's got a few quirks to it. If I leave the "allow fingerprint functionality" after about 3 seconds the fingerprint location lights up and that's all that shows on the screen.
I also noticed when unlocking, face detection is no longer automatic. I have to double tap the screen to dismiss this app and then double tap again to start the face unlock.
Its a shame the stock aod is so terrible

The stock AOD will hopefully be better soon as Huawei in it's p30 pro latest firmware will add 3rd party access to the AOD, so developers can add functionality to the AOD.
