[KERNEL] EB01 Voodoo - Fascinate Android Development

Please find below a kernel based on the EB01 leak, packaged up with voodoo
This kernel only includes the Voodoo ext4 lagfix, as without source code, Voodoo sound and color fixes are not possible. Full credit to Supercurio for the Voodoo lagfix code, as well as the scripts I used to package it all into this kernel.
The kernel is also modified to support external bootanimations, ie: /system/media/bootanimation.zip.
The package will also flash a modified recovery, which can be used with both Voodoo and non-Voodoo installations.
Enjoy

Voodoo sound won't be possible until Samsung releases the source code.

Thanks so much! Can't wait for the next instalment.

Is the confirmation voice working? Can we disable in recovery or do we have to create the file?

If ive flashed the voodoo kernel out of the walkthrough thread, can I flash this ontop of it?

Can I use this on stock 2.1 rom? If so, is it CWM flashable?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Is this kernel different/newer than the voodoo kernel packaged with SC2.1vd?

this regular or undervolted. If not undervolted is it possible for a future release.

For help with new Voodoo

Custom kernels aren't possible until they release the source code.

I'm not sure if you can install it with the stock recovery because I use the ClockworkMod. You should just get Rom Manager from the market and flash it. It's simple. For Ext2 you can use it on a stock kernel fine with OCLF in the market. For Voodoo (Ext4) you need to flash a kernel that comes with it on a Rom that supports it. Like Bionix.

Whoops. Learn something new everyday. It didn't work for me on stock JI6 though, so I figured you needed a compatible ROM.

To run bionix fusion 1.1 do I install bionix rom and the fusion 1.1 kernel? Or is the kernel part of the rom? Or is the kernel the samerthing as the rom?

If you downloaded it from the team whiskey website, it should come with the kernel designated by the name of the file (Stock, JAC, or KK). If that's the case, you don't have to flash a kernel separately.
All Bionix roms come in kernal flavors....they are built into the roms themselves.
Pick the version you want--BE CAREFUL OF VOODOO--for future flashes you will need to disable it. Don't forget or you will be in a world of hurt to fix it.

I have been told that yes, the nandroid backup will backup the kernel as well. My wife's vibrant has the hardware lock fix and it didn't overwrite it when I flashed Bionix 1.9.1 so I would assume you won't lose the fix either, just try to get into recovery or download mode via hardware after the flash to see if it stuck.

JL15 stock kernel with root/recovery

Does anyone know where I can find the stock JL15 kernel that I can odin or flash that already has root/recovery? I know where to get the stock flash but other changes have to be made for it to work with root/recovery. What I want to do is have nero3 with just the stock kernel, not supercurio's voodoo kernel, without causing any issues.

Help flashing a new kernal

I flashed Bionix 1.3.1 and noticed that there are a few app's (like the bln and voodoo control)
I was wanting to flash the overclocked kernal to mess around with those apps. I've got it downloaded and its on my phone.
Do I just flash the kernal like i would flash a theme or a rom. Do I have do disable anything like voodoo.

Yes, to the first part of your question. No, to the second part of your question as long as you choose a kernel with voodoo LF already enabled.

You got it, just flash it like you'd flash a rom.
Better read each kernel's OP. But you can flash any kernels listed in Bionix-v 1.3.x (overstock.., categorically.., dragon, DOW) on top your ROM's kernel with voodoo enabled without disable it. But if you want to flash Dead Horse kernel, you should prefer to disable voodoo or any lagfixes before, and then you can configure again later to ext4, jfs, or other. Otherwise you may experience strange self reboot, wipe SD and abrupt broken user apps, as i did. Anyway, all have BLN and voodoo sound as you expected.
Good luck.
Thanks all for the info flashed the overstock kernal in like 5 seconds (minus the boot time) with no hiccups
So what exactly does a kernal do to the phone?

Kernel deals with low level operations on the phone - it's like an interface between the rest of the android system and the phone hardware. That's why you need a new kernel for things like BLN.

I have another kernal related question
I want to flash a new rom (trigger by edt) I currently am using Bionix 1.3.1 and i currently have the overstock 2.0 kernal installed
My question is do I just flash the rom over the kernal or are there special steps involved.

yes, its possible.
He must root though.
He has to root, and install the clockwork recovery, then using clockwork recovery flash a kernel WITH VOODOO and then hes done.
Make sure to flash the correct kernels per firmware.
like..
most of the kernels you see on dev section are for 2.2+
2.1 kernels are on a thread made by supercurio about VOODOO kernels, im on a phone and cannot search so i'll leave it to you.
Pretty sure you don't need root to flash the appropriate stock+voodoo kernel in Odin via download mode.
