Thought I'd start a thread rather than jam up the beta4 thread with this...
I've flashed to beta4, dualtouch and baseband .54. The phone works completely as expected with the following exception: I cannot use the SD card.
I know the SD card is present and readable as if I boot to xRecovery it sees the card fine.
When I boot the status bar reports 'Preparing SD card' followed by 'SD card safe to remove'.
If I go into Settings->SD card & phone storage settings it reports 'Total space' and 'Available space' Unavailable. Tapping the Mount SD card reports 'Preparing SD card' in the status bar, followed by 'SD card safe to remove' again.
Apologies if this has been covered before, I started through the beta4 thread but with 482 pages of posts it wasn't easy...
Responding to my own post, I tried a 2GB non-HC card in , formatted to FAT which worked fine.
So, I backed up my 8GB HC card, formatted it to FAT32 then copied my files back and everything is working now.
You must format card in your device, no by a PC. Format FAT32 in windows I do not know why but it's not the same in the android. You will see later how a lot of files will disappear from card(like jpg, png and others). I had this problem before and after fast format in X10 and now everything is ok.
------------------------------
I testing beta 4, the only miuns is that the titanium backup does not work. After using the system is crashing. I read about busybox and xrecovery problems and I know the TB use busybox. Any suggestions?
Try re- installing TB

Couldn't format the card on the device, as it wasnt detecting (? or acknowledging anyway) the card at all.
Sticking it in my laptop and formatting it there worked fine.

Hello I have a problem, my SD card has two partitions Fat32, Ext2, app2sd and FreeX10 does not understand it. Wrote your SD is not supported file system, please format it.
Sorry for my bad English translated by Google Translate
Try doing what I did, pop it into a PC, copy the contents to a temporary folder, format the card to fat32, no partitions then copy your files back again. Worked for me, give it a shot you've nothing to lose

So what file do you need to format the sd card on the computer,? Do I just mount the sd card or what once im about to format it with?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Pop the card into a reader or adapter and slot it into your PC. What OS are you using? On Windows just open explorer, right click the card and choose format and then make sure fat32 is selected. Ubuntu or similar, sorry its been a while but I'm sure there is a format tool in the system tools? Mac? 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'

I may have encountered a hardware problem with my SGS2. Hopefully I'm wrong, and it can be corrected with software. Anyway, I have a 4GB MicroSD inserted into the phone, but it is not recognised at all.
Under "Settings > Storage" the SD card section says unavailable for both "Total space" and "Available space". The options for mounting and formatting the SD card are greyed out.
At first I thought the MicroSD might not be listed there, and instead was /sdcard/external_sd, but when I copied some files to that directory, they were not on the card when I checked on my old phone. I also copied a file from my PC to the card via my old phone, then searched, to no avail, to find it on the Galaxy S II.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Format the card via PC card reader . I just shoved 16GB card in and it works .
jje
I have done that. It works in my Xperia X1i. Should I be using FAT32? That is what the card us formatted as, but maybe I should try ext4 or ntfs?

Fat32 should be fine, check the card for errors on your pc? I've just put my 16gb in and it's working fine...
Do you think it could be a fault with the phone? Maybe a damaged card reader? When the card is accessible, where in the file system is it found? /mnt? I know the internal storage is /mnt/sd card.
EDIT:
Never mind, I borrowed another MicroSD, which worked fine. The problem must be with the formatting of the card. Thanks for the help people.

- copy your old SD card to PC via USB cable
- shut down, remove the old card, stick the new one in, turn on your phone
- let the phone format it (will prompt you if needed)
- copy the contents back via USB cable
Can do the above in PC as well, that way your phone will not even notice the card has changed.
will the "format prompt" automatically appear? how will i know if it needs a format?.thanks guys
Yes it will if needed otherwise no.

It's better to format the new card from the phone before using it, this lets you maintain the native file system and prevents any anomalies that can arise from a pre (pc) formatted card. This might also help preventing the auto unmount issue that some users have reported.
Upon inserting the new card and on powering up the phone, go to Settings -> SD Card & Storage, select the Unmount Card option, then select the Format Card. When done Mount the card if not automatically done. Ensure that you have taken a backup (if you have some data on the card) before you format the card.

It is not necesasry to format a newly bought sd card as all sd cards come pre formatted with the file system that suits it best(FAT32). SD Card manufacturers will never ship an unformatted card.
If you get unmounting issues with a new card its prolly not the cards fault but the phone's firmware.
hey guys, it seems that the sd card that i have brought does not need formatting,.i just copied everything to it and it works just fine! thanks again for all your help!!! shalom!^^
Yeah. It doesn't need formatting. Recently I bought a 16gb card, switched off phone, took out my old card, inserted new one phone, went into recovery, partitioned it with recovery, inserted old one in laptop card reader, USB toggle in phone, copy and paste all old SD contents to new one, then disabled USB toggle, restore a nandroid backup with ext4 and finally reboot. Phone was as it was before. But now 16gb from 8gb.

Hi,
I'm running into the same issue. My problem is that I don't have a Windows machine or card reader. I tried erasing the card, I also rebooted into recovery mode and formatted it, but to no avail.
Is there a way to run the "Terminal Emulator" app within the Nook Color to format the microSD card? I did try it, but I'm unable to figure out which /dev belongs to the microSD card.
I'm running CyanogenMod-7.1.0-encore, build GWK74. I have a ScanDisk 8GB card.
Hello all,
I used a windows-xp to flash nAa-kernel05 and upgrade to miniCM7 2.1.3.
Once done, the phone booted properly. My SD apps work .. but the SD card does not seem to be accessible. In gallery it says: SD card blank or not present. Music player says no SD. Storage settings show no SD ..
It seems that the Fat partition is messed. How can I fix?
I'm not sure if it is related to the miniCM7 update.
Any clue?
i had similar problem ..
try to format your sd card with this software:
Code:
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
I do not want to format, my data is accessible via card reader.
The sd card was running few hours ago.
I did the following (with no luck)
1- Using windows, fixed errors in fat32 partition
2- Missing "/system/xbin/parted" copied with pernissions
3- Reboot many times, wipe cache partition and dalvik
4- Edit the default capabilities xml file at the SD root, edited <boot> to have a low-case R after unlocking kernel.
Still cannot find the solution for my problem

Exactly, and also try to partition the sd card with minitool partition wizard, and then install apps in your sd, they might work better with an ext 2 partition, thats what i did, cuz my cards 8 gig, and fat is not an option.
I just tried to upgrade to 16 gb card and my phone did not like it. Random shut downs, apps did not run etc. Do I need to format the card in a special way before I can use it? I did a full clean install before trying a new card.
It may just be a dodgy card though... It works fine with my old 8 gb card.

Hi everyone,
I'm running CM7 Atrix CM Ba2tF non nightly build. I migrated over from gingerbread 2.3.6 and I'm unable to read my micro sd card when connected to the usb.
I've searched and followed the instructions telling me to go in to cm7 application settings and choose 'use internal storage' but this doesn't resolve the issue at all.
I don't want to have to switch back to gingerbread but I've been searching and found no solution that works. Please advise.
Ted.
Hello.
You need to scroll down your notification bar, select the USB notification and select "Memory card access", by default it's set to charge only and many people over look that.
What you did with the option to use internal storage is unrelated to this, It simply changes the mount points for the internal and external SD cards.
Thanks for the response. I had forgot to mention that I've done that as well, the only drive that shows up as readable/writable is the internal flash of the phone, still making the external sd unreadable *shrug*

Can you access it from the phone it self? (Just making sure)
Have you partitioned the card via the recovery? Apps2sd or data2sd stuff, basicly is the file system on the card vfat or ext?
Can you access the card using a memory card reader?
Would you consider formatting the card (using the option in settings > storage) ?

Did you reboot the phone after selecting "Use Internal Storage"

I can access the card and its contents through file explorer. I did not partition the card through recovery, I had originally formatted it as fat32. I temporarily re-loaded the bell gingerbread recovery and the sd read just fine again.
I could reformat the card again, I'll just back up it's contents using my sd card reader.

If the format doesn't work then it could have been a bad flash. Backup everything like you were planning to and download the rom from the internet again just to be sure and re-flash.
