I'm just wondering if there's any way of doing this without the use of the microUSB port?
I'm sending my Xperia in under warranty for a broken microUSB port, and want to make sure they don't find any of my modifications. Is there any way to force an over the air update? Maybe send a file via bluetooth to my Xperia and flash it with Xrecovery to overwrite everything? I'm not overly concerned with removed APKs (since I can just copy them back) or root (since I'm pretty sure there's an option to unroot)... I guess I'm most concerned with Xrecovery and any JIT mods. I'm still using the stock rom.

You can delete the xRecovery files, just look at the xRec thread, the manual installation guide, and delete the files instead of copying them there of course.
As far as JIT is concerned, there used to be a script to undo it, but that was for the jerpelea's JIT, not z's v2 JIT.
So, the answer is that without using your USB port, you will have some trouble reverting the phone to original state.

Hi, i've installed xrecovery on my x8 1.6 rooted. Is it possible to have a backup of clean 2.1 rooted firmware to restore with xrecovery for the newbies?
Thanks
You mean someone posting their files so you could use xRecovery to
use the restore fuction to "restore" to a rooted 2.1 android?
Actually thats a clever approach to be honest!
I m not sure what files you need and if it can be done though.
N.
The effort invested in both methods is same anyways i will post the method
1.Get the back-up image(Make sure it is inside /sdcard/xrecovery/backup)
2.go to xrecovery->backup and restore->advanced restore->/(new rom)->restore only system
3.Flash all .sins except for system.sin of the correct rom(you will need to do this since every rom brings some kernel updates, the system wont run on incompatible kernel)(use the x10 flasher by bin4ry)

Yes. I think it's possible, and can help me and the other people for a rooted and cleaned 2.1, without the sony ericsson programs.
=) thanks
I think it's necessary all backup folder for a complete restore.

If you jump from 1.6 to 2.1 you have to flash .sins ,if you jump from 2.1 -> to latest 2.1 its not necessary but better if you do it
Hi all,
This is my first post and my first thread, so please don't flame at me.
Well I want to run FreeX10 BETA 4 and the Android Generic FW 2.1 at the same time. I have had a look around, and it seems like that it is possible but I'm having trouble.
If anyone wants to help me, please PM me for my MSN, or post below.
Thanks.

Hello -
Did you figure out how to do this?
Thanks.
What you would do is make a backup of both roms in xrecovery, and then you would just restore whichever backup you wanted to use at that time!
So can I say -
1) Root my current 2.1 Eclair
2) Install XRecovery
3) Backup current 2.1 via XRecovery
4) Install Custom ROM 2.2
5) Backup 2.2 via XRecovery
Now you have two backups and you can switch between 2.1 and 2.2 via XRecovery Restore option. Is this correct?
Thanks.

Yes, you can switch between them.. But it's not really dual boot.. Wouldn't it be a bit time consuming to do the reinstall of the fw each time you want to switch?

If if and only if 5 minutes is time consuming. Cause that's seriously about how long it takes to switch.
And also to the OP. Remember that you want both of them set up exactly how you want them and don't change it because unless you make a new backup, what you add or change in between wont stay when you restore.

Guys I need some help hopefully you can clear some questions I got.
If I do a a full system wipe with xrecovery, dalvik cache and battery stats.
Is it going to delete a previously saved backup?
cause Im trying to install froyo on my x10 and already got a full system backup of my 2.1 using xrecovery but im not sure if I got the correct steps to do it.
What Im trying to do basically is get 2 backups to switch between em when needed.
when you do a backup its storred in sdcard under /sdcard/xrecovery(recovery)/backup/<date based name>
also wiping all stat and /data /cache will clear all your ROM related data from your phone.
So basically wich steps would be the correct ones to follow in order to get 2 backups so I can switch between when needed, without bricking my phone?
you won't brick your phone
i don't know why you bother, its gonna take 5 min for each changeover, and assuming you'll make no progress in between each change, but then, no you don't need to wipe anything. Sigh, here are the steps: Just back up and then install, then back up that one, and then restore which ever you need. Also, just to make sure, your backups are located under sdcard/xrecovery/backup . So you don't screw up the md5 check, if your gonna rename it, don't put any spaces.

Sony Ericsson's backup and restore is lame. Use some other backup software from the market like titanium backup.
P.S : Super wrong section... Blasphemy! lol.

Its hard to help you when no one knows what rom you flashed... additionally you seem mighty confused on what exactly you're doing. A good idea is to clearly understand what you are doing before you do it. I do not mean to belittle you in anyway in case you feel that way, but in general its a good idea to do so.From what I can tell it seems you mucked up the permissions of your system folders using astro...
If you're willing to start fresh, do the following.
1)Backup your contacts using the vcf file (you can make it from the dialer menu) (if you can)
2)I would suggest flashing back to the appropriate stock rom found in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Choose the appropriate rom of 2.1.A.0.435 based on your hardware version x10a or x10i.
Make sure you have checked wipedata.
I hope I understood what you were trying to communicate.
EDIT: Next time post in the thread of the rom you flashed.
dude, you have posted 9 times in less than 1 hour. give people a chance to reply - a lot of the devs round the place are sleeping right now! keep on monitoring the other thread, no need to start 2 - just be patient. i would imagine you will need to reflash your phone from scratch and start again.
to restore data from SE Backup, you need to flash an original rom. this app ONLY works on SE roms. NOT custom roms.
Good luck dude!
it happened before i flashed the rom.. ive read every post in every thread i came across.. sdcard is now the system and every folder / file is now root.. no more shell..guess i cracked the bootloader on my phone mountin / as r.w with remount from the market and they installed java in the system folder
you think sdcards permanently in mnt now? before i had two sdcards folders
[EDIT] Im now a x10i with google passion build props and my build id is cm6.1.3 gingerbread v01

just a suggestion, have you considered using the SEUS utility to restore the firmware?
If it was me, I would back up anything that needs backing up. Reflash with SE Update Service - C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Ericsson\Update Service
Fastboot flash a rom of your choice. There is the stock available or a variety of alternatives. Is not something that can't be handled, no need to panic!
it worked with the last rom i user.. forgot which one but think it was the cm6.1.3 v4.5

SEUS does not care about the result once it interrogates the software. It expects there to be something messed, hence why you are forcing a system restore.. just start the update service, select x10, pull the battery for 30 secs, hold back while putting the battery in and have the cable connected, it's going to ask you to confirm then reload the last firmware that it has from previous updates - should be 2.1update1 - 435 or whatever...
/dev/block/vold/179:1 (r/w) = /sdcard

use binary's flash tool to flash an original ROM back to your phone, then maybe even do a SEUS over the top (not really required, but good for a test)
im just gonna leave it cause theyre no more folders with "shell" dev/vold is root now too..blocks root libs root bins root everything besides my sdcard..everythin was shell before
One thread is enough, and please dont post questions in the development forum.

OK so this probably sounds backwards from what everyone would expect. I've been using attn1's Liberated 2.2.2 FR008 rom and adding/removing apps to suite my needs. But now I want to REMOVE usb & wifi tethering! Sounds crazy but this phone is for a kid. I don't know much about developing. I'm guessing these features are built in to the OS, if so do I need to just get a custom settings.apk that doesn't give the tether options OR is there an apk i can remove (many of the apks in that rom have name that I'm not sure what they do so I left them in)? Any help would be really appreciated!

I guess you'd just have to get a new rom which does not have those options (none that I know of), but I still don't see why you need those options removed. Even if it is for a child, it doesn't really make a difference. The options can still be there and just not be used.
didnt the stock 2.1 NOT come with tethering? Its been a while, but I think thats how I remember it. So couldnt you just revert to a 2.1 rom?

you can use adb to remove the apk's from the /system partition while the phone is in recovery after you flash the stock 2.1 RUU. You may have to reflash clockwork recovery after this, not sure if it will revert to stock recovery or not. Also, not sure on this one but you can check out the 2.1 Liberated Rom in the dev section and see if it has tethering enabled or not. Trying to remember this off the top of my head but its been so long since Ive done anything 2.1...
Yes, running the 2.1 RUU will remove Clockwork. So the full process would be to run the 2.1 RUU on the phone, then once done, run Unrevoked again on the phone. At this point I would recommend taking a Nandroid backup so you can revert any changes you make (i.e., if you have problems after deleting one of the apps).
Then you need to use adb to remove apps while the phone is in Recovery mode.
The downside of this (compared to just leaving the phone with stock 2.1 after using the RUU) is that Unrevoked automatically gives you root access in the ROM, which may or may not be what you want.

Root access to the rom is fine. But if I remove apks using adb aren't they still in the boot.img making it possible to simple do a system wipe/ hard reset and thus bring back all the junk apps in the stock 2.1 rom??
With all the DEVS on here it seems like there is a cleaner way to do all this...

im running everything stock,
installed just to quickly test so praised ArcMini custom rom. So i restored the backup later on because i didnt liked custom rom.
I felt that the battery drains a bit quicker now, i re-recalibrated and still feels like battery does drain faster than was before.
So i suspect its because i installed CMW.

its more likely apps that are running in the background and widgets you have on the desktop, try a different rom such as lite version of cm7 and underclock your phone,
as far as my understanding goes, cmw is just a tool for installing roms backups ect and doesn't run when you are using it much like booting into a recovery panel on a pc possibly, basically it should not effect your battery drain, though I may be wrong,
I hope this help
no its not apps, because i did backup and restore and after restore battery drain started happening. If i didnt changed anything except installing CMW what else couldve cause that ? every app and configuration was the same...
no custom roms, i have tried and stock rom wins all the way except the extras 2.3 has, but still stock is more stable and graphicly better looking
so is there a way to remove ?

you could re-flash the original kernel, via flash tool, this will get rid of CMW and set thing to how they where, if you are using a custom kernel or stock kernel with additional modules that could also be responsible for your increased battery drain, you should be able to find the stock kernel on this forum as others have asked for it, alternatively I thing there is a way to get the stock kernel from pc companion
good luck hope this help

Installing CWM installs Chargemon, Charger and Recovery.tar to /system/bin and 'sh' to system/xbin. I'm fairly sure chargemon and charger are custom replacements to files that already existed, so i'm not sure removing them would be wise. you can remove Recovery.tar though, which is the main CWM program. Not sure if the 'sh' file in system/xbin is safe to remove either, or what it does exactly.
In Roms that run on kernels that have CWM built in, the chargemon, recovery and the 'sh' file are not present in the ROM, so they may be safe to remove.
Make sure you keep backups of those files, or just rename them at first (just add a 2 at the end of the filename should disable them) to see if it leads to any problems, before you remove them altogether.
