CPU Settings - Droid Eris General

Just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys use for advanced CPU settings. Do you OC (and how much)? What governor do you use? Do you have JIT enabled? If so, what's your VM heap size? Do you use compcache? And most importantly, what differences have you noticed by trying different settings?
Right now I'm OCing to 245/710 on GSB 1.2 with no JIT or compcache and using the smartass governor, and my phone is running better than it has in a long time. I tried GSB with JIT and compcache and noticed a definite slow down.

If you're not using JIT, you're not getting any benefit that I can see of having a 2.2+ ROM. My Linpack scores go up about 50 to 75% when I turn on JIT.

Most of the time, I have the clock set at 604/245, with a screen off at 528/245. For the Froyo/GB ROMs, I always have JIT, compcache at default, vm heap at default, governor at smartass.
For Eclair ROMs (running Zanfur's kernel) I generally have the same clocks, ondemand governor, no JIT. Sometimes I set the minimum at 19.2 on Zanfur's kernel and it still seems to run fine - it tends to depend on how fast the battery burns.

GSB 1.2
Min 245
Max 604 - 768 depending on usage
Gov. Interactive
Compcache off
JIT on
VM heap 24MB
Surface dithering off
Lock home in memory off
Lock messaging off
Also been using xtr's cache2cache.

GSB 1.3
Min 245
Max 748
Gov. On Demand
Compcache 10%
JIT on
VM heap 32MB
Surface dithering off
Lock home in memory off
Lock messaging off
Noticed a slow down running Compcache at 18%(default). If my battery starts getting low, I'll change my max to 528.

with GSB 1.3
Min 245
Max 710
Gov. On Demand
Compcache 26%
JIT On
VM heap 32MB
Surface dithering off
Lock home in memory on
Lock messaging off
I am using XTR's Cache2Cache script which helps me maximize my space seeing as I have a massive amount of apps installed (107) and my caches are very high. I'm running at around 30-34MB free space. If I didn't use Cache2Cache i'd be at 0-5MB free and i'd have all kinds of memory issues. =-) XTR rocks!
I dont get any lag, not yet at least. home screen doesn't reload either.

I've been getting that homescreen reload thing, too. I assume saving the "lock home in memory" fixes that?

245/748 gsb 1.4 JIT enabled compcache at 26% performance no slowdown that i noticed.
EDIT: Autokiller at Ultimate and the majority of my user apps on the SD card only ones with widgets and those that dont work on SD card on internal. Memory normally stays at about 40-50

i am using GSB 1.6 running setCPU at 748max and 240min and it is completely stable. It has had no noticeable effect on battery life.

Is anyone having issues w overclocking to 806 w interactive. Running tazz froyo gb and siedio

stk, I have issues overclocking to 806 period.
JIT should be on with any 2.2+ device.
Compcache off, our cpu is too weak to do any extra work like that.
VM heap size at 16, where it garners top performance.
Sleep profile: 19min, 480max
powersave bia, 40
up threshold 98
wakes up just fine

[Q] Is Autokiller needed on Gingerbread CM7 V2.5?

I was just wondering if Autokiller is need on Gingerbread CM7 2.5? If so, what are some settings for the best performance and battery life. Also what is are some good SetCpu settings as well? Thanks for the help!
Gb 2.5!?

But no, android doesn‘t need task killers, and should not be used normaly.

No need for setcpu unless you want to specify separate settings for when the screen is off. You can change cpu settings in settings>CMsettings>performance>cpu settings.

I haven't used Autokiller since AndroidOS 2.1.
I don't use SetCPU anymore; right now I'm using Conap's CPUBoost. I have it set to OnDemand (SmartAss is just too laggy, especially coming out of sleep). Minimum I have set to 245 and max to 768. In Advanced Settings in CPUBoost, I have the Screen on/off Profile set to 245 min and 480 max.
I stopped using autokiller when I went to GSB 2.1

Same here, no task killer necessary. Android does a pretty good job managing memory by itself.
Running GSB 2.5 myself atm.

Autokiller isn't a task killer, though, it just changes Android's memory limitation settings or something of the sorts (full details here).
Anyways, I still use it (on GSBv2.5). It doesn't always show noticeable speed increases, but there will be some scenarios where I will get a kick of responsiveness with it compared to without.
I've used Task Killer since android 1.6 to kill apps and it freed memory. Then when I got to Shed's 2.3 I was wondering what was killing my battery life and guess what it was, it was the good old Task Killer it was using 44 % and the screen was only 39 %. So I uninstalled it and have never looked back. If anything GB is running smoother than ever but that could be now that I'm using 2.5 that that is making it all seem good but I have no problems with low memory or lag.

Install the tweaks in the thread "Tweaks for Cm6 & CM7" and install by xrecovery. Before that, make sure you have setcpu. After you install the tweak, go back into setcpu and you can raise it to 768mhz, repost your score soon =)

I would not install that because you will modify few tweaks from owain. Try the thread Overclock cm6, thats only to insmod overclock module and works fine.
Hum, tried to take a screen shot of the results but can't find a program that works without distorting the image.
1- Floyo 4.0
2- Disabled surface dithering
3- 768mhz overclocked
4 - JIT disabled
5 - VM Heap size: Whatever is default on floyo 4.0
Result: 1307

what are the tweaks apps and settings that improves cm7?

any suggestions?
many feedbacks now are annoyed with getting low ram..
resulting lower performance of cm7...
hehe..thanks..
low ram=faster app lauching. that is good
huh?
im having about 70mb free ram..
it goes robotic..haha
What are you running on you ace?
Get the V6 supercharger script by zepplin of course
Set CPU min and max to 800 Mhz
Also set CPU gov to 'performance'
Actually default settings are good enough
My settings: V6Supercharged, compache disabled, JIT enabled, surface dithering disabled, purguing of assets enabled, VM heap size 48m

[Q] Reducing System(not user) Memory? and amount to keep free?

SAUROM with build.prop tweaks, nothing else flashed through CWM
Hi I noticed that when over about 525mb or RAM usage on our device it starts to increase launcher lag and general lag across:
GO Launcher
ADW Launcher
TW Launcher
I tried different CPU governers:
Smartass2
Ondemand
Power Save (dur dur dur)
And right after I turn it on within 5 mins this is my RAM:
http://www.box.com/s/65b898b945607334c5b5
http://www.box.com/s/6cc0ab0a29bd003e9dc6
Can I reduce the amount of memory the apps marked with RED use?
Can I remove the ones circled in GREEN safely by deleting the apk?
How much memory do we want to keep free at all times?
Thanks in advance!
fixed 2nd link sry
zeppelinrox who makes scripts told me to use less dalvik heap size and i tried it,,are phones are 128mb,,,i turned mine down to 64mb and it seems to run alot more smoother now,,,I've noticed both roms have 128mb which is too much and not needed for this device..That's why i keep my stock with only a overclocked kernel and just add my own build prop tweaks....

[Q] SetCPU and S3

Hi everyone,
This is the first time owning a Samsung device, so the pegasusq governor is a new thing to me, I read about what it actually is on a thread but I wanted to ask to fellow S3 owners what are they using for great battery life - performance ratio?
I'm running Omega 6.0, slipstreamed loads of crap that is not needed (from the "safe to remove" thread) with Apex Launcher. I'm only using 2 homescreens, dark wallpaper, etc, the typical works to try and improve battery life.
Now the thing is, with SetCPU I'm running the default pegasusq governor ranging from 200mhz -1400mhz. Is the pegasusq governor the right choice here? Isn't it basically a variant of the OnDemand governor but Samsung proprietary for quadcore CPUs? I also recall reading a mention of S3's freezing or not waking up when it's set from the lowest underclocking point (200mhz), is that right? I've been using this for a few hours and no problems yet, but just wanted to know what are everyone elses experiences and what's the best configuration that has worked individually for you!
Cheers! Hope I complied with the rules, I did do a search but didn't find anything of this nature apart from a few separate questions!
I use the same governor, 100Mhz - 1704Mhz. No issues. Works great.
Siyah kernel is using pegasusq so i think it is the best governer there is. if you're on stock kernel or lowest underclocking is 200mhz but in custom kernels you can use 100mhz.
I have set my SetCPU to 100mhz - 1200mhz and undervolting all 18-steps to -50mv. I seldom reboot my phone but not encounter any freeze on boot
You should try tweaks for improving the battery life and peformance. Like supercharger, zipalling , random build.prop tweaks.... Etc xD but yeah use the samsungs "for quad core"
Thank you for the prompt replies everyone!
I remember with my Desire the whole development community was pretty much "set in stone" if you will, so it was really easy to choose a kernel etc.
Is there a kernel that you recommend? Is anyone using a "Screen Off" profile without any problems? If so what's the range you have it set at? That's what I was mostly scared as I remember on my Desire the lockscreen or taking calls would lag quite a bit but obviously this is a different beast altogether!
I'm also using AutoKiller Memory with Extreme Settings and some tweaks applied as well.
I use Siyah clocked 100-1704 screen on. 100-300 screen off. No issues.

I set mine to 100-600 not having any issues, when reiveng notification/phone calls doesn't lag at all. Just don't use "power saving" option.

3rd party apps don't to any good to battery life it only consumes more(for me) cause it's always running in your background which consumes memory and also battery life.
stock task manager is pretty good, been use it always. Closing all apps and clearing memory

Nah, Autokiller isnt a task manager.
Basically, Android automatically kills empty processes (etc) at specified RAM levels. It does this anyway. But on High end RAM packed devices, these values are too low to be of any use as the phone will seldom hit that low a level of free RAM.
Autokiller simply adjusts these values to be more useful for high end devices.
Actually, you don't need autokiller to do this. You can do it in an init.d script although I've not tested this on the SGS3 as I haven't seen a need.
Here is an example I wrote for my Desire AOSP ROM:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo "8192,16384,19200,23040,25600,30720" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
Default SGS3 is:
Code:
8192, 10240, 12288, 14336, 16387, 25600
These are for:
Foreground App, Visible App, Secondary Server, Hidden App, Content Provider, Empty App
