How to start this thread off? Okay, I am crazy about my "Venue". I have tried a few android phones and came away not really impressed. So cool features but nothing to rave about. However, with my Venue, i really really like this phone. Responsive, stylish and most of all unique. Just wondering how the rest of you feel...
Like!
Totally agree with you hope will have more at this forum!
first impress since first touch this phone. Glad to own one.
If it was able to run cheap T-Mobile internet, it should be good.
This phone's nice and masculinity, i prefer its design, but the screen color it's much green, hope next rom upgrade will solve it

select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap

Then, set the outgoing SMTP server to:
smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 587, security=none
and finish the setup. Hopefully this will work and you can access you yahoo mail account.
Next, click on the email icon (you just setup), bring up the menu and select account settings. Choose Incoming settings and change the Username to your Ymail account - [email protected] and save the settings.
For me, this worked! Hopefully it will work for you.

I also like the style of this Venue, at least it is not trying to make any comparison on the surface to everyone's rival - IP.
To the responsivness, it depends on how much you stretch on the Stage UI, if you use its own widgets, they are all good, but if you take them all off, then put in all other 3rd paries widgets, it can get a little hard on the CPU.
I have 2 mailboxes, my Yahoo HK and my company Exchange, I am using gSyncit to sync all from my Exchange to the Venue, all good.

Thanks, but it don't work on my venue....
But I found yahoo mail apps. At marketplace, it took me few mins. To setup....
Thank you...
so how many people have dust or dirt under the screen?
Dell Venue vs. Captivate
I had my captivate stolen recently and had to decide what kind of phone to get next. I had always had good luck with Dell products so I went with the venue. Here are my opinions compared to the samsung captivate(which I thought was a great phone)
performance Venue(much more memory even after root), also a little quicker
response
battery about even
screen captivate (but the venue is not far away)
gps venue hands down
software the ATT bloatware make me give the nod to the venue
hardware i like the overall use of the venue's buttons compared to the
captivate(except for the power button)
overall both are great phone but I really like the venue

Email Scheduler is just that, an email scheduler. You know how exchange accounts (ie ActiveSync) are able to have a daily schedule to download messages and regular POP and IMAP accounts can't (ie, stop polling at 9pm and start back up at 7am)? This fixes all that and does so without having a constantly running program to do so. Read more about at the link below:
Download Here
Please try it out, I have only tested it on my Titan, but should work on any Windows Mobile Professional Device with the .net framework 2.0. I have not tested it on standard devices (ie no touchscreens) but would think it would work just fine. Feedback is encouraged.
Thanks!
?
How does this differ from the "scheduler" within outlook/messaging that allows one to configure how often a pop3 server should be queried for new email?
I know gmail can be setup as a pop3 account (or imap with additional PPC software or an android).
Is this only for gmail and/or yahoo?
Thanks

The one that is built in does not allow it to turn off at say 9 pm and turn back on at 7am in the morning. This allows you to set times to change those settings inside outlook. And no, ALL POP/IMAP email accounts are supported, those two in the screenshot are just demo accounts. The program pulls all the account information from pocket outlook automatically, no need to type in the info, just select the times you want to change the settings, and to what settings you want it set to. I hope this makes sense.
GREAT APP!
Didn't mean to shout but I really think this app has merit. Would think that battery life should improve as well. I always wondered why only Exchange had something like this. WTG.
One great feature that I would like to see is to :
select which method of connection to use Wifi, Activesync or GPS and shedule the application to connect based on that setting and download.
For example, if at home - i should be able to connect to Wifi and download emails....
when driving - use GPS/3G whatever
when out for lunch - again same
back home - switch again to Wifi and download...
wishful thinking?
The only way "I" can think of to achieve the connection management like you want would be to disable certain ones at certain times. I have played with this idea before, and from what I can remember, the OS doesn't force a connection on an app, the app picks it from what's avail. In other words, in this program, wishful thinking is correct

For users without the newest .NET framework
Is it possible to compile a version that does not need the lastest .NET framework?
It is overkill in memory to install .NET 3.5 just for this nice program.

I'd have to go through it and look, but would think I could get it to run on 2.0. I know I would have to change some as I use LINQ for some of the xml provisioning, but it could be changed if enough people needed this changed. Anyone else have this same issue?

Not sure what the error would be about, if it happens again, let me know exactly what it says. The link to the website works fine for me, but since there have been 2 people say it is down, I will check the logs for a reason.

Two problems:
If the device is set to the 24h time display your application still shows them in the 12h format. But this time withouth any AM or PM. Without the screenshots in the first post I would not know, if the default times are AM or PM.
The other problem has to do with the weekends. I set the start time to 6:30 and the end time to 22:00. But in the weekend I don't want to hear new mails that early. Can you do something against this please? What about two start and end times? One for working days, and one for the weekend.
edit:
Third bug: After an uninstall the application leaves the "\Program Files\Email Scheduler Setup\EmailSchedulerService.exe" entry in the notification queue.

Thanks LordDeath, Never would have thought about the 24 hour clock issue, I will look at it, should be a simple fix. I love the weekend idea, don't know why I didn't include it in to begin with, but is something that needs to be there. I like your idea of 2 different settings, one for weekdays, one for weekends. I might try and make is selectable like it is in activesync. as far as the uninstall issue, I am affraid that there isn't much I can do about it. The good news is that it will only error out once, and never again. I will look into a solution for this, but not sure anything can be done (other than forceing a soft restart).
Looks like the new Trillian IM client is now available and is open beta. It has a expiration date until the end of the beta. Wanted to give you guys a heads up if anybody else was interested in this multi-IM client.

I tried it, it is not very good. I prefer ebuddy or IM+
On the contrary, it's a very solid app. Then again, I am unsure of your expectations for this app.
I love the app unfortunately after opening and having one conversation it refused to open any new conversations.
Thanks for the heads up. I always loved trillian on my pc.
I find it frustrating that this app doesn't tell me why aol won't sign in. is it my password, is it the network, wtf? Doesn't even give me a sign in failed alert. Im+ is the same way. It's been a while since I used im where I'm not auto-signed in and figuring out all my passwords is gonna take some work. Clearly these apps are not gonna make it easy.
Yeah. I had a really weird problem that it didn't log in, i had to close it THEN when I finally got in.. I couldn't even send a IM to anybody, and when I logged onto another s/n attempting to message myself, it never went thru unless I signed out and resigned back in.
The interface does look pretty nice though, definitely needs some working but this is a Beta so i didn't have expectations that it would be bug-free. Most definitely going to give Trillian another go when the next beta build is released.
One of the big perks with using Trillian for Android is it's integration with the desktop client. When you change something on your computer (add a friend, change a name, change a user group, etc.) it is automatically updated on the Android client. Also, they are adding synchronized logging to an upcoming build. That means the conversations you have while you are mobile will be transferred to the desktop client and all versions (Windows, Mac, iPhone, Blackberry, Android) will live in harmony without having your logs scattered all over the place.
The bigger bugs like connection issues, message sending issues and crashes will be hammered out pretty quickly so it should be much more stable in the very near future. If you do experience a crash you should be given the opportunity to send a log to the developers (please use it!). If you have a stomach for Bugzilla you can report the bugs and feature requests directly:
http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/
Login: beta
Pass: beta
On a side note... The Voice To Text option in conjunction with Trillian is pretty awesome. I was amazed at how fast and accurate Android's VTT is. It was even accurate while driving on the highway with a lot of background noise.
I hope no-one minds but I got my Mozart yesterday and the only link that seems to talk about what is good and bad about it (here) hasn't had a new entry since November.
I also reckon that the Microsoft Developers know that xda-developers is the only place to go for sensible smartphone discussions and hopefully they will read this and make some changes.
I wasn't convinced that the Mozart would be better than my HD2 but actually....
Good:
Great Screen Resolution
Fast
Internet Explorer is better than I expected and the Pinch to Zoom is great
I like the start screen and the way the 3G signal gets out of the way
Bad:
No Comm Manager - switching on WiFi, Bluetooth, Flight Mode is a real pain
No Internet Sharing - AARRRRGGGHH!
Can't find my WiFi with hidden ESSID - GGGRRRRR!
No MyPhone Sync
I'm not sure I'm keen on the lock-down on apps - it's probably the only thing that will force me to Open Source Android.
I used gyrator2 to switch the screen off when I turned the HD2 vertically down - it saved on battery.
Thank goodness MS don't seem to have made WP7 into a steppingstone to a proper OS (like vista was to Win7!). The way I'm using it, it's the almost finished.
I'm hoping that someone will come up with a Comm Manager App. But I don't know about the other stuff.
Has anyone else got anything to add? What would make WP7 work better for you?
PS Please move this if it's duplicated elsewhere.
Thanks for the heads-up, just brought a Mozart today expecting delivery on Tuesday, I've come from the Android phones Galaxy S & X10 Mini, will be interesting to see how this shapes up against them.
anoyances
i also bought one and generally i think they realy solved the job doing a MS based phone that works. (i moved from a diamond2 with os6.5)
but what realy makes me angry is that i read in the commcersials and specs that i could use mp3 for ringtones (wich phones cant today anyway). but even if being a trivial requerent i would not go with out it.
now i realize that i can use mp3 - BUT ONLY IF I BUY IT FROM ZUNE WTF!!!!!
are they trying out the apple business plan?
im aware that i can "jail break" (where did i last hear about this.. og iPhone/apple) .. but i risk brick´ing my phone and thats a bummer.
still realy nice phone.
a file handler would be nice though and some grouping functionality. the start screeen cannot collect all your messaging and mail in a single icon for access. you have to add evry single one of them in the shortcut list for ease of access.. thats anoying if you have 4 mail and text messaging like me.. grouping would rock..
another thing is "People" its a looker if you want to see contratct and facebook updates, byt anoying for phone contact list
and whats it with the contact list? you cannot sync with outlook only exchange serveres. otherwise you have to expose your full contact list on windows live or facebook to get it synced to your phone.
now i believe i should be paid for using my phone then.. they get to know me and all of my friends including phone info, full name, job detaisl address etc etc. thats something that valueable.. and i dont get to choose if i want to take part.. i want money Zune/HTC and Microsoft!
im semi pleased .. nice phone but realy creapy business methods
A week later....an update
I can see what you're saying js0937.
I'm not really into changing the ringtone but I did notice that you couldn't do it. I can't believe that it has to come from Zune - it does make Android seem very attractive!
I've coped with the Outlook / Live syncing by having a separate account for my contacts but it is a bit long-winded.
I'm waiting for the update (due in Jan 2011 but when??? we're already two-thirds through!) to see whether these problems get solved.
Given that I worked with winphone 6.5 for so long, winphone7 is still much, much better but I still want Internet Sharing and a Comm Manager

Update whill be soon (7 feb.?)
h..p://microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-info.aspx
Hoping the update sorts the voice dialing out as its rubbish compaired to 6.5. This is a big step back. Be nice to get more info of what the update will bring. Roll on the 7th, fingers crossed.
My 2 cents
Ye, here you have the list:
MUSTS (otherwise I will NOT use the phone for my business):
- Network sharing
- People view by company OR search by company
- copy paste OR use selected text as signature
- outlook categories (seriously!) sort/show calendar, ppl, by category
- tasks list
WANTS (It would be nice to have it):
- activesync with desktop (mailny notes, and such)
- messaging hub (it is enough to group it together in one tile displaying summary of all unread messages, no matter from where they come. It can link to selection screen, where I can pick the mail/messaging account).
- connect tasks with SharePoint lists
- see Active Directory coleagues callendars (or at least simple meeting assistant that shows free/busy for attendees)
- Remote Desktop Connection (it is a pity that having that screen I cannot connect to my virtual desktop if needed)
I am business guy, and always used WinMo as a nice tool. Now... I have waited so long for WP7 and I cant use it for work. I gave it to my Woman, and now I am considering other OSes...
Microsoft, you are pissing on your most loyal customer segment!
sorry for the cross post
i did some looking around and it seems theres no app to check your account on boost mobile, which is odd considering they have 2 android phones and a whole host of unofficial ones
so i created an quick and dirty javascript/html app that has 4 buttons, boost mobile homepage, my account, reboost, and support
it was made with phonegap build, so when you install it says it needs access to everything(phone, internet, sms, etc) but really its only using data, its just the way phonegap build makes the apps, kinda stupid but it works
try it out, tell me if you think it could be handy, or the most useless thing you have ever seen http://tinyurl.com/myboostmobile
hope it is useful for someone besides me lol
so far i have tried it on the native android browser, and something about the way that boost puts in the dashes where your phone number goes on the my account doesnt fly so well, so if you have problems try out opera mini or opera mobile, they are much superior to the native droid browser anyway
http://pastebin.com/kgtiNX6R
thats the source to the app, just so anyone who is worried about installing based on the installer asking for all permissions can see that its not tracking you or anything
That javascript thing is evil, it doesn't work on the Android
browser or Opera Mobile. The only way I've gotten it to work was to install Skyfire (uses the Android rendering afaik), disable JS, fill in the phone, submit, go back, enable JS, and refresh the page and hope it populates.
-- Starfox
yeah the only luck i had was with opera mobile, i just hit the button to remember my username and password for my account(boostmobile.com) so all i have to do is open the app and hit the my account button, i havnt tried skyfire yet with it, but i will definitely give it a go
thanks for your input back starfox, i much appreciate any feedback given

thank you, lol, there wasnt any app for it, which perplexes me, hopefully boost just cancels me out and creates something real instead of my quick and dirty way
appreciate the feedback boominsvx
Get rid of the javascript if possible.
I did not and will not try this. (not with boost)
javascript popup could be replaced with PAGE Maybe...
EDIT: Also, pastebin and similar sites 'own' your code when you paste it on there, not sure about how much or how but I know it's in the terms and conditions somewhere..
ryannathans, i appreciate your input, this is really all just a temporary solution, lol pastebin can own my code all they want its just a few lines at the moment anyways
im working on making this better at the moment, and app that uses boost's login protocol and all their scripts on their server to log in, ie. app comes up, presents you with a login screen, you log in with your boost account details (all of which is sent securely to their server) and bam your logged in to check your minutes and such
im trying to keep sending emails and bothering customer service at boost about this until they just give in and end up creating an app for us, something official that doesnt have to be hackandslashed, so if your on boost and you want an app for checking your balance and so forth keep bothering them too
Hi all,
Since coming to Android from the iphone 4, I've been loving this phone and getting used to it very fast. One thing that has been frustrating however is the email.
It simply has become a two step process when it really should be just one.
Whenever I look at an email, the app zooms the email to the top left corner of it making the entire email not readable in one glance. If I want to read the entire email, it forces me to manually zoom out (hence the 2 steps). Is there any way to fix this so it just fits the screen initially? With the screen this size, it isn't hard to read small text, and when it's too small, I don't mind zooming in.
This is what it looks like when I pull up an email: http://imgur.com/hDKSV
Ps. I'm using the Gmail app.

You could've at least accepted the pictures before taking the screenshot :silly:
But no, there's no zooming. It's the one thing people have complained about pretty much since day one.
Well that really sucks. It's so annoying. Imagine trying to load a website up on your browser to have it zoomed to the top left corner everytime! #ugh
Thanks for the reply... :crying:
One option would be to flip the phone to landscape mode and read emails that way. Or, you could hope that companies sending you emails learn to make mobile-friendly emails, but I wouldn't count on that any time soon.

I don't think it has anything to do with what company or who is emailing me. Its the way the app or OS works. The iphone auto fits the email on screen. I don't understand I can't get that on this phone
I came from an iphone to the HTC One X and had the same email sizing issues. The iPhone made emails render perfectly, Android not so much. It makes you have to reframe, zoom, in+out, its a hassle if you ask me. Also the links failed to appear has executables, so I had to do a bunch of copy/pastes to get to linked sites. Afraid the Samsung is also like this..
