[Q] Login issues with email? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Hi,
I have a rooted NC. I fired up the email program to retrieve my Yahoo email and it prompted me to put in my email address and password. When I clicked "Next", the Nook looks like it tried to setup the email, but then came back and said "Bad username or password". I triple checked both and even logged in via Web Browser successfully, but couldn't via email. I also tried the manual configuration for Yahoo, but it still didn't work.
Has anyone seen this and know a solution?
Thanks!!!

Found most of this on another forum and tweaked them a bit to work for me:
1. Press the E-Mail icon (the default Android E-Mail application).
2. Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password.
3. Press “Manual Setup” in the lower left hand corner.
4. For “Incoming Server Settings” set the IMAP server to “imap.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 993 with SSL Security.
5. For “Outgoing Server Settings” set the SMTP Server to “smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 587 with no security.
6. Check “Require sign-in” and press Next.
7. Select how often your device will check for Email, and choose default options.
8. Give the account a name and set your display name for outgoing messages.
This should get it working for you.

Excellent!!! That did the trick. Thank you very much for the help biggins!!!

No problem. Glad I could help.

This works for me too. Thanks a bunch!

I'm having issues logging into my Google accoutn after having upgraded my Nook to CM7, repeatedly getting the message that my username and password don't match ....
Figured it out....had to go for some special password because of the 2 step identification that google has...

Outlook or Windows Live problems

Not sure if this is an AP5 issue or wether its a windows live or outlook problem but but I can`t seem to add an email account
I hit new account. fill in my email address and password (its a hotmail.co.uk account) then hit the next button. It says "Auto setup founds setting for: hotmail.co.uk To complete setup and download email click next. It launches Opera and tells me all about the benifits of using email on my phone. there is a "try it out" button which opens a text box to add a mobile number but this must be a USA format number as its XXX XXX XXXX.
Tried various formats and never recieved any setting via text message.
Go back to Windows live and there is no new account added
Any ideas people?
No one else having this problem or know how I can cure it?
Its driving me nuts.

This will always happen to the email account that you register to the microsoft live website. It won't happen to the normal email account. You will see that account within windows live only, I think.
Have you tried the manual set up instead of hitting the autosetup button?
I'm not getting an option to setup manually though.
I goto add new account and i have two boxes. Email & password.
it then say hit next to auto setup
err....you don't set up hotmail accounts through the mail application.
Go into the Windows Live application and sign in using that, and Bingo.....Your hotmail account appears in the mail application.
Of course if you have a network branded device without Windows Live installed.....I guess you'd need to find that and install that first.....

Setup Exchange Email

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting the G Tablet to connect to exchange. Went the manual mode, put in my username (with and without domain name) and email address (they're different) and the server. Chose ActiveSync, after "Checking incoming server settings..." i got error about authentication failed. I checked the credentials (owa & iphone are working fine using the same credentials), played with all the ssl options but still not connecting. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Well, the bad news is that I can't help you.... yet. The good news is that my gtablet arrives today, and one of the first things I'll be doing is setting up exchange! I'll report back.
You say that you have tried all the SSL options, but for me to get it to work I had to not use any SSL (Even though we have SSL on the mail server).
Also, for username I had to put domain\username, otherwise it wouldn't work. Maybe search for another exchange clien and see if you can log in using that?

I also tried it without any SSL and did use domain\username to no avail. I put in a ticket with my school but haven't received any reply, not sure if there's anything they can do since it works fine on iphone/ipad.
I would try another client. Touchdown has the most features and flexibility of all the exchange clients for mobiles. It also has a free trial.
is it your own exchange server, or a corporate?
I know on our system, we have to use an external webserver for any device that isn't our corporate laptop. If you are trying to use the same one as your PC, it might not work as the MAC won't be accepted by the actual server.
Also, if you have a blackberry, you CAN'T use the exchange settings from that either as there is an intermediary server for BBS.
Check with your IT folks....my guess is that there is something like
ext.yourcompany.com for the server.

What are the exact settings for your yahoo account?
I do not mean your email and password ... that should be on your side only.
I mean server, port, protocol, etc.
Did you configured it as premium (IMAP) or POP3 or Microsoft Exchange Active Synch?
Which security type have you selected (no, SSL, TLS, ...)?
You can specify all this settings in manual config.
I think that Yahoo only supports POP3 (pop.mail.yahoo.com) for incoming and SMTP (smtp.mail.yahoo.com) for outgoing mails.
But I am not sure as I do not have a Yahoo mail account.
If your Yahoo mail synchronization worked before, you have enabled SMTP already at Yahoo for your account.
But what happened that this does not work any more?
Have you changed a special setting, another account, firmware, installed or un-installed an app?
Sometimes it is helpful to wipe the cache in recovery mode (Volume UP + Home + Power).
Good luck !
Yes i updated my firmware frm 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 last week and actualy never used my yahoo after that so do know when it started today i tried to mail but it gave error sending failed not a secure conection so i deleted the acount and tried to setup up again now its just not seting up giving me error i mentioned before i tried all settings imap pop3 ticked accept all ssl certificate n saw bt no use it says unable to connect
P.s :gmail is working fine
I installed k-9 app and it easily setup my yahoo acount and i can mail through it too dont know what went wrong with the default application(social hub)
stil i would like to know what went wrong if anyone could help
I know this may sound stupid, but can you get into the Yahoo account via the web (on the phone or PC)? At least this will confirm you have the correct username/email address and password.
What server settings did you put in?
Brother i said i can access now via k9 but still not via the default social hub and yes i can acces through pc and mobile browser too
i tried all the possible settings in the social hub like pop3; imap ;ssl certificate on; accept all ssl certificate but no use so currently i m using k9
i think it has to do something with the certificate validation as the error says so but i dont know the solution to it
p.s : phone not rooted
Had the same error today. Read somewhere to change the Yahoo account's outgoing settings on the phone to SSL with accept all certificates, but that didn't help. So I changed security type to None, and all mail starting flowing out of the outbox again. Guess next time I get the error I'll change back to SSL...
I cant change the outgoing settings of server unless i login and i cant setup only the yahoo account so i dnt get option of manuly editing outgoing server
This is an SSL problem, android does not always include all chained root certificates.
You will still get an error like this:
Cannot safely connect to server.
(java.security.InvalidAlforithmParameterException: trusteAnchors.isEmpty())
Certificate chain[0]:
Subject: CN=(SSL common name here), OU=Domain Control Validated - RapidSSL(R), OU=See
etc...
This needs to be fixed in the build.
I get this problem running latest android 2.3.7, CM7 with SavagedZen Kernel
Would love a fix so I can use SSL again.
Juststarted receiving this error message TODAY. No changes or updates to anything on my phone...anybody know how to fix this.
I also starting getting this today (Cox email). Changing the SSL option to "SSL (Accept all certificates)" fixed it for me.
after sougote
On the email settings tap on outgoing settings and change security type to none.
That worked for my AOL account it might work for others. Worth a try anyway.
i'm facing the same problem...
solution is go to application->setting->Account and sync->add account..
Then yahoo account that I put in account&sync will auto display in mail..
So I didn't facing the giving the error(java.security.cert.certpathvalidatorExceptio n:trust anchor for certification path not found)...:fingers-crossed:

I've been using Att imap.mail.att.net for years for inbound mail (on my Android phone using 4.4.2 ) and ATT mail stopped receiving on July 25th for no obvious reason. I fussed with it a while and fortunately was able ot figure it out. If you follow my steps it should work:
Another contributor mentioned "can't safely connect to server" is actually an SSL error message. He's right... for reasons unknown they've changed something about SSL.
You must change your SSL setting from SSL to the alternative : SSL (accept any certificate) The phone informs you it is testing the connection after you change this. with just SSL it will fail, but once you've changed it you will notice the error message has changed.
Once you observe the test is passing, you have the original problem fixxed, but I still had to mop up the existing mess. Here's what I did:
1.) jotted down all the settings in the imap screen including my account name etc.
2.) Removed the account (with imap all messages are still on the server and will come back later)
3.) reboot (this may have been superfluous
4.) reinstalled the mail account using the jotted down settings ... and don't forget .. set to SSL (accept any certificate)
That should do the trick.... Take care

Yahoo imap & pop: can't connect to server

Hi all. Having been with yahoo for many many (often tiring) years, sadly this isn't a new thing, it's something that comes and goes seemingly based on the whims of yahoo deciding to change their settings, potentially to try to herd users onto their (awful) mail app. Anyway, problem:
All of a sudden, my account (yahoo plus, imap) and my mothers (yahoo basic, pop) have stopped receiving emails on our 2 android phones (samsung S3 with latest ICS, & HTC wildfire with whatever was before ICS, respectively). I've read a number of forums with various suggestions, including:
- clear the app cache
- change to a different server: most suggest imap.mail.yahoo.com but others suggest imap.n.mail.yahoo.com, imap.android.mail.yahoo.com, one suggests using IMAP4 (don't know how to select this)
- delete account & reinstall
None of these work. Peversely, I AM getting emails through on imap.mail.yahoo.com, but very intermittently. I'll notice that, e.g. overnight, I'll have gotten most of yesterday's, but if i click for a manual refresh it'll fail. Likewise if I set myself up for imap.mail.yahoo.com, it'll check the settings & be ok, but then give a connection error.
My mum's phone is a slightly different problem: she can log in fine through the internet, but her username/password combo fails for pop access through the stock email app. She's a .co.uk address, & i'm wondering if this is the reason for the problem. I suspect it's just that yahoo is having a problem.
Any thoughts appreciated for both of these - potentially connected - problems.
Cheers
Dez

Address any prompts or issues you see when signing in on a desktop before trying to sign in on a third-party email app, then send a test message.
Sign in to Yahoo Mail from a web browser.
Compose a new email and add your own address in the "To" field.
Send the email.
Wait up to five minutes to see if it arrives.
Confirm app is configured with the correct POP settings or IMAP settings for Yahoo Mail. Sometimes even if the info seems correct, the data the app saved could be corrupt or contain hidden invalid characters. Delete your Yahoo account from the app and re-add it to be sure. If you need specific instructions for your app, contact its manufacturer.

Hotmail/Live Mail setup as ExchangeActiveSync works w/stock Email App (edit:7-1-13)

For those of you who aren't entirely committed to one email service like myself (Gmail is great also) or just need to maintain that Hotmail address you've had forever, here you go...
SDXversion of this thread
You can now setup Hotmail/Live/MSN Mail for push notifications and folder/calendar/contact sync using the Exchange Active Sync (EAS) Service and it works with stock "Email" Client. There is a dedicated Hotmail app for android, but I want all my Email in one place, and K9 Mail doesn't support EAS 2010 WebDav, which appears to be what the hotmail server is using. Not sure about Gmail app.
(7-1-13) Thanks to amardeshbd and WinuxUser for pointing out the details for the recent 2-step authentication changes -----------

Instructions for default mail client
Account settings and their level of support will vary across Android phones. While the steps to configure push email with synced contacts and calendar will vary, we have found these steps to work across a number of phones:
1. Select Email client on phone.
2. Press menu and select Add account
3. Enter full Hotmail address: e.g. ([email protected]) or ([email protected])
4. Enter password
5. Select Manual setup
6. Select Exchange when prompted for “What type of account is this?”
7. Domain/Username, enter full Hotmail address: e.g. ([email protected]).
Note: If the device only says “Domain”, it should be left blank.
If the device says “Username”, then enter the full Hotmail address.
(On some devices, the Domain/Username may be pre-populated incorrectly and should be erased.)
8. Type in password. (may already be filled in)
9. Server name. Enter: m.hotmail.com for server name.
** Alternate Servers reported by others: bay-m.hotmail.com
(Note: this field may be pre-populated incorrectly depending on device, ie outlook.com).
10. Make sure box Use secure connection (SSL) is checked.
11. Select Next
12. Select desired account options for inbox checking frequency, number of days to synchronize, send email by default, notifications and contacts/calendar sync. Select Next.
13. Depending on device you may be prompted for account color and account name (e.g. “Hotmail”)
14. Select Next and your Hotmail is set-up and ready to go!
Yea, I still like MS. Win7 MediaCenter Multi QAM Tuner, Remote Potato & Remote Media Ctr android app rock. Don't hate me for it.

I meant @outlook.com mailbox.
I've tried to manually set "server" to "m.outlook.com", but it said "failed to connect". Then tried to change to "m.hotmail.com" >>> ok to connect, but cannot send email.
Also, di you know any free exchange server which supports SMS synchronisation?
Thanks!

The outlook .com service is brand new so I'm not sure about it. I would expect that it would use the same m.hotmail.com server and that the rest would be a settings issue but I could be wrong. Haven't seen enough info about it. I copied the settings in the op from Microsoft's site before the killed the link on how to do it. They want you to use their hotmail app which is poor.
As far as exchange SMS, I haven't heard of exchange being used for that let alone a free server.

I think Microsoft blocked support on Tablets or on some types of devices.
You may need to use the domain of debug-m.hotmail.com instead of m.hotmail.com

Outlook.com works fine for me. I use the same instructions posted here. No deviations.
For a moment I thoght this was Microsoft Outlook client contact synchronization and not the "online" @msn.com, @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, etc accounts.
Anyone has a good -free- suggestion on how to sync Outlook (client/application) contacts & calendar with Android?
Thanks,

I went through some headaches when I switched from my Winmo 6.0 Treo/Outlook/hotmail setup to Android/outlook/hotmail/gmail setup.
There isn't any decent free solution that I found. I did breakdown and buy "CompanionLink" to handle 2 way sync between Outlook & Google's server (contacts, calendar, & tasks) and it works well for that. I'm almost completely on Google services now (I only use hotmail for push email).
If I find a way to seamlessly sync contacts/calendars/tasks between Google/android/Hotmail/Outlook I will be all over it. Using exchange active sync (from the op) & CompanionLink are as close to a solution as I think there will be.
Note: Exchange Active Sync will allow you to sync hotmail calendar/contacts/tasks, but they will be completely separate from the phone/google info (like a separate directory) and not merge/update them together.
Sent from my "Up all night, Sleep all day" EVO3D!
Some info i want to share, ITS ONLY MAIL SYNC!
Incomming settings:
POP3 server: pop3.live.com
Port: 995
Security type: SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)
Outcomming settings:
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Security type: STARTTLS (Accept all certificates)
If you set up the account as a POP email account, then yes, email (timed interval sync) is all you get without the push option.
If u set it up as listed in the OP (Exchange Active Sync), you get additional features.

The only issue i've found with this is that you can't view your emails in HTML. Can only view them in Plain Text and if you try to change the setting, the box to do so is greyed out and won't allow you to change it. Otherwise everything works great. Anyone have a fix for this?
