Thanks! problem solved! Here's another question. I have my headphones on and a call comes through but, i can't hear the person through my headphones. I am able to do this with my iP4. BTW it's just a pair of headphones not a headset.
Thanks!

That's why. It only routes output through the headset if it has a mic. This is an issue for some people who like to use an auxillary input in their car to listen to music and then want to answer calls over the car stereo. This would be a firmware fix, if there ever is one. I don't think there's one available.
damm that sucks. so i basically have to get headphones with a mic for it to work. That's one thing i miss about my iP4. Thanks for the info!!!
Hi guys just received my phone and noticed that my headphones doesn't have microphone.
I have got a guide book for the microphone MDR-NC31EM but on my headphone it says MDR-NC31E
Do your headphones have microphone?

The microphones used for noise cancelling act as the microphone for calls.
I've tried them out in call and have had no problems.

The red circle shows were the microphone is on the earphone, a way you can test it is if you activate the noise cancelling, rub your fingers across that part of the earphone, you'll hear that typical swashing sound when rubbing a mic.
(I took the photo with the Z2)
Hi, could you describe the method for recieving calls with this headset? Does it auto-answer, or do you have to press an answer icon on your phone display? As I understand it, this headset doesn't have any volume/answer buttons.
annoying
Correct, the headset doesn't feature any buttons. To me that's quite a downer. It's very inconvenient to pull out the phone for all actions like picking a call and pause/play/rev/fwd music. They sound good and noise cancelling works perfectly in flight, but I really dislike that they don't feature a button.
I've tested mine is nc31e without m.
and it has mic but I can't find where it is.
These are microphones in the headphones.
people i call with this headset dont hear me

Same issue here.. Pls anyone could help?
I know this is an old thread but I've had a problem with my headset pretty much since day one. People who i speak with can hear the background noise a whole lot more (like a storm) more than what they can hear me.
It works perfect with noise canceling all on its own and with music, the problem lies with calls.
Can anyone offer a solution? (BTW, I've got a Z3)
Anyone's incoming call or any notification sound are still coming out from the speakers and not the earphones with the earphones plugged in? I'm with the noise cancelling earphones if that's how it's supposed to be?
All my previous phones mutes the speaker and you hear the ringtones/notifications through the earphones when plugged in

Are you sure you plugged jack properly?
Press it till the end and it'll work.
And no, it's not normal to have sound on speakers and earphones in the same time.

yes i'm pretty sure it's plugged in correctly as i'm listening to music on it. but incoming call's ringtone plays on the speakers instead and not on the earphones (music just gets muted but no ringtone sound)
i have this same problem to,.... I'm using Handcent as my defualt SMS/MMS app,... at first i thought it was an app setting thing but messing around with it,.... i still can't find anything to get around it,.....
I'm using a Sony Smart Headset by the way,...

As I understand it, this is a "feature" of Kitkat (If not Jellybean because it did this to me on my GS3). On my GS3 I rooted it and got around the problem but I can't find a way around it on the Z2. There is an app that forces ringtones to headphones but it does not seem to work on the Z2, at least without root. I don't understand why anyone would want this feature. If I am in the library and listening to headphones I don't need my ringtone blasting away. And it is impossible to hear on a crowded bus.

but that's weird when I had my Z1 running on kitkat it doesn't have this problem... isn't it a hardware issue? so this is happening on all Z2? surprised there was no much complaint about this to Sony...
I noticed when pressing a button on this phone and put the speaker to your ear you can hear some noise through the speaker. Like a low hissing sound. Then after a second it stops until you press another button.
Also when playing a YouTube video or game and turn the volume all the way down you hear the same noise. Infact if you run a game and go back to your home screen the noise is there until you quit the app.
The noise can only be heard if you put your ear to the speaker so it's not a major issue I just found it strange and wondered if everyone's is the same?
I just checked and the noise does stop when going back to the home screen from a game. Yesterday when I tested it the noise was still going. Must have been a particular app.
Can somebody check this on the z2 to see if this is normal? Thanks
You have to put your ear to the speaker to hear it, its just a slight hissing sound.
It happens when pressing the home/back/multi tasking buttons or when typing on the keyboard. Basically whenever the phone makes a button press sound and the speakers become active to play the sound
its totaly normal for the hissing sound to exist however some speakers can output the sound alot more easier than others and some you cant hear it at all
its normal for it to be heard from Z2 Unless its very louder than it should be, it should be only noticed using headphone or putting your ear very close to the speaker

Thanks for verifying that Envious, i can only hear it when putting my ear to the speaker. While i am here i might as well get your thoughts on another issue lol There is a thread that's just been posted on here about the bottom speaker being louder then the top speaker. Is this a hardware issue or just the way the phone is designed. Its something i noticed the first day i got the phone.

i actualy dont know
its definatly hardware, i did ask sony Service centre about the issue and since my Z2 is going to be sent for repair ill see if they actualy fix the Bottom speaking being louder than the top one which i did say was a problem and that they will test
it doesnt seem to be an intentional feature since the phone has dual stereo speakers, its anoying listening to music when mostly the audio is one side
Yeah its something i notice when playing games or watching videos. I will try to get a replacement from the retailer and if that fails then i will send it into sony. The vibration sound is definitely too loud on my z2 and i'll get them to check the speaker. :good:
So I just got this phone recently, its the C6833 and when I am on the Speakerphone with someone it starts to crackle.
However when I listen to music its fine, that's really strange I think.
Is there a different speaker within that one speaker at the bottom for calls and a different one for Music?
If someone could please help me out on this I would really appreciated it.
Do you mean cracking and buzzing (interference) in phone call speaker ? My C6833 does buzzing and cracking .. and not only when I make a call .... but everytime. I hear it anytime I put my phone to ear. I think there is GSM antena, WiFi etc. and it is not shielded enough.
You have 2 speakers on your phone ... One is for phone calls and the other is for music, loudspeaker ...
I dont know what to do ... It is propably HW problem ... I dont want to be without my phone for few weeks

Yea like a cracking sound, but like I said it Only happens when I am on speakerphone making a call, when I listen to music its perfectly fine.
The Music and phone calls when on Speaker Phone come out of the same speaker at the bottom of the phone.
Also when I talk on the normal phone when making a phone call with the phone to my ear, I can hear perfectly.
Very very odd.
I have a static noise coming out of my speaker. I can hear it during
speaker phone calls and when playing music with the volume very very low. Try playing your music and turn down the volume and see if you can hear the noise.

Well when I play my music low like you said to do, I can hear a bit of static but no Crackling sounds.
When I turn up the music its clear with no crackling sound , its Only when making a phone call through the speaker phone.
I even tried to plug in earphones while making a call, and its perfectly clear, which sort of rules out static or reception.
The only thing I am wondering is if the small speaker at the bottom of the phone has two built in speakers within One speaker, one for the Music and one for the Speakerphone would be the only thing logical I could think of.
I think the static noise is always there but you can only hear it when it's quiet or the volume is low. There should only be one speaker. If you put your finger over it you should be able to figure out which one it is. I think the static noise it's a software problem does anyone have any idea?
Hi, I am also facing same trouble, so could you let me know how you resolve it?
I had this problem before. It should be a software issue. I was about to send it in for repair so I did a master reset of everything. The problem went away.. Saved me a trip.
