[Q] Ringtone not muted on speakers with earphones? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone's incoming call or any notification sound are still coming out from the speakers and not the earphones with the earphones plugged in? I'm with the noise cancelling earphones if that's how it's supposed to be?
All my previous phones mutes the speaker and you hear the ringtones/notifications through the earphones when plugged in

Are you sure you plugged jack properly?
Press it till the end and it'll work.
And no, it's not normal to have sound on speakers and earphones in the same time.

As I understand it, this is a "feature" of Kitkat (If not Jellybean because it did this to me on my GS3). On my GS3 I rooted it and got around the problem but I can't find a way around it on the Z2. There is an app that forces ringtones to headphones but it does not seem to work on the Z2, at least without root. I don't understand why anyone would want this feature. If I am in the library and listening to headphones I don't need my ringtone blasting away. And it is impossible to hear on a crowded bus.

but that's weird when I had my Z1 running on kitkat it doesn't have this problem... isn't it a hardware issue? so this is happening on all Z2? surprised there was no much complaint about this to Sony...

What do yo mean? :O
Do you hear buzzing when you turn the volume up?
What's the sound quality like with the volume up?
Where is your phone sitting when you are playing music?
Does it sound the same through headphones?

No..it works fine when I turn the volume up...Sound quality is crystal clear when the volume is high...Didn't try with the headphones yet! The buzz sound is so low..I can only hear when I place the speaker just beside my ears.

Probably normal interference sound you are hearing. If you only hear it on low with the phone right at your ear, that seems most likely.
Or..........metal plate in head?
Perhaps at higher volumes the buzzing sound is cancelled out by the music? Get a can of compressed air and give it a blast, there may be a small piece of something rattling around in there (very small).
When you listen at night, is your phone plugged into the charger? If so, you may be hearing switcher noise from the battery charger. Try a different one. Just guessing.

[Q] Call audio through headphone jack but voice out through internal mic?

Does anyone know how to have call audio come through the headphone jack when plugged into my headphones while allowing the use of the internal mic for my voice?
I am coming for epic touch 4g that used to do it automatically when I had my headphones plugged in, but now people on the other of the call cannot hear my voice through the internal mic. I am guessing the phone thinks I have a headset with a mic, which I don't, so it turn off the internal mic.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Had the same problem on my Samsung Captivate. I think the headphone jack is slightly different and causes this. I've heard of it being fixed in custom roms though.

Bummer. I went searching through the call settings and did not find anything so this is sounding more like the case..
I actually have the opposite problem and have a headset with a mic, but the voice isn't being transmitted at all.
I can hear them no problem, but they can't hear me. Seems to work fine with the stock earbuds but not with my other headset (which worked fine on my S2).

So with stock ear buds the people can here you through the internal mic? What type of headphones are you using?

Exactly. I'm using my Beats by Dre with the ControlTalk cable. Again, no problems on the S2, just on the Note
Me too
I have the same problem with my Captivate. When I plug in a headphone to listen to music and I receive a call, I cannot take the call using audio output as my headphones and internal phone built in mic for the input.
Has anyone found a solution to that yet ?
--Update.
I'm on Slimbean 4.2.2 and surprisingly it seems to work now.

[Q] Music Issues

When I listen to music on my phone the right earbud or right speakers in my car have a significantly lower volume and only the beat will play(no lyrics). I've troubleshot the buds and car speakers and determined that the phone is the problem. It happens with the music player and pandora. Any Ideas? Thanks

Still under warranty? Call VZW and get it replaced...
Are you running a custom rom? Which one are you running?
Although this does sound like a hardware issue it MAY be a software issue....
I get this sometimes if I have made a call earlier. Reboot your phone.
Get a replacement. Headphone jack is corrupt and barely pushing out stereo sound... It's like mono+
Could be headphone jack. I had one go bad on me. No sound period on headphones. No problem getting it replaced. I think they may ask you if tried Bluetooth, speaker, etc....

[Q] Z2 Noise cancelling headset

The noise cancelling headset MDR-NC31EM, does it have a microphone? If yes, where is the microphone?
Another question is what the difference b/t "Noise cancelling (Auto)" and "Noise cancelling (Always)"?
Thanks.
1 I think the mics are on the earpieces
2 I would like to know this too
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
The microphone(s) is in the earpiece.
About the difference between the 2 settings:
"Auto" turns on noise cancelling only when you unlock the phone. When the phone is locked (or screen is turned off) noise cancelling stops.
"Always" means... always. From the moment you plug the headphones till the moment you unplug them noise cancelling in on.
Hope that helps.
Binaural recording
Have anyone tried to record stereo audio using the MDR-NC31EM earphones? Maybe it's possible to do a binaural 3D audio recording through it.
Have you guys make calls using this headset? Many people whom I talked to using this headset told me that it is very noisy and cannot hear my voice properly. Anyone has this issue?

Well I don't have this problem. I switch it to "Auto", and when I make a call, the noise cancelling function seems to be reduced a bit so that the voice of the one talking to me will not be eliminated too much.
This is indeed very unclear.
I was testing it with a friend just now, and when I rubbed my fingers over the microphones on the earpieces they could hear the disturbance. This, to me, seems very strange. If the microphones are pointed outwards, then all the god damn sound around you will be picked up and get sent to the other person. How is that noise cancelling?
What am I missing?
I think I had the noise cancelling set to "Always", but even if it's on auto, the microphones are positioned in a very stupid way. Am I right?

That isn't the case. Auto just means that your phone will try to judge what kind of environment you're in between the three manual presets (airplane, bus/train and office).

The noise cancelling isn't really made for calls, it's for cutting out unwanted noises while listening to music.

Hands-free calling
When a call comes in you can use your MDR-NC31EM to enjoy the call. Your hands are free and you have excellent call audio.
Note: call handling is only possible when the MDR-NC31EM is connected to a device with a 3.5 mm 5-pole audio contact. Check your device specifications for details.

I don't think that you're supposed to switch out headphones when a call comes in. That'd be... strange.
When i want to talk with this headset, i take out one of them and speak to the earpiece. So can the other people good listen was i said.

The microphones used for noise cancelling act as the microphone for calls.
I've tried them out in call and have had no problems.

The red circle shows were the microphone is on the earphone, a way you can test it is if you activate the noise cancelling, rub your fingers across that part of the earphone, you'll hear that typical swashing sound when rubbing a mic.
(I took the photo with the Z2)
Hi, could you describe the method for recieving calls with this headset? Does it auto-answer, or do you have to press an answer icon on your phone display? As I understand it, this headset doesn't have any volume/answer buttons.
annoying
Correct, the headset doesn't feature any buttons. To me that's quite a downer. It's very inconvenient to pull out the phone for all actions like picking a call and pause/play/rev/fwd music. They sound good and noise cancelling works perfectly in flight, but I really dislike that they don't feature a button.
I've tested mine is nc31e without m.
and it has mic but I can't find where it is.
These are microphones in the headphones.
people i call with this headset dont hear me
Hi guys, as the title says, people i call always scream that they cant hear me. Did any of you got this issue?

Same issue here.. Pls anyone could help?
I know this is an old thread but I've had a problem with my headset pretty much since day one. People who i speak with can hear the background noise a whole lot more (like a storm) more than what they can hear me.
It works perfect with noise canceling all on its own and with music, the problem lies with calls.
Can anyone offer a solution? (BTW, I've got a Z3)
