I just rooted my x10a, so... - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First, I followed this guide here: Newbies Guide to Rooting X10 and giving you the newest firmware!
I went through all the steps except for the market fix, because I had no problem with it. The only problem I had was that dumb java error, but that was no problem.
I am enjoying this x10 ALOT more. The touch screen seems more responsive, or atleast the keyboard usage is SO SO much nicer, and the new interface over SE "Home" is a lot nicer.
I have a few questions.
1. My x10a, rooted, still says "x10i" even though I did that last patch thing that was supposed to fix it. Will it hurt my phone to state it is a x10i instead of an x10a?
2. My firmware version states 1.6. Is this normal or am I supposed to show 2.1? Is my next step to run SUES and do the actual update?? Or do I already have the update? I have the 5 home screens.. wasn't that in the update? <-- confused
3. I knew I would lose my camera/video capabilities. Are we close to receiving a fix soon?
I found that when I enter the default contacts app, I could use the camera via "edit contact>add photo>camera". That is better than nothing!!
4. I installed debranded generic firmware?

..X10a and X10i are nothing special different (no need to worry)
..Run SEUS or flashtool for 2.1
..Use camera illusion if you want 2.2 from Z
..only with flashtool is debranded firmware
Hope this helps.

@iMatth3w
Thanks for the info
Incidentally, I managed to get the the camera/video function back along with mediascape player. I can't believe ATT would butcher this phone like they did.

u lost camera and camcorder after updating to 2.1 ?
what why ?
lol....nothing like that happened to me.
i lost camcorder on 2.2 but videocam illusion fixed that.

[Q] Is it possible to install Mediascape in original 2.3.3?

Hi, I want to see how Mediascape runs in Android 2.3.3, but I wanted to know if it it's possible to get the app from an X10 so I can install it on my X10 running 2.3.3. In case I can, do I need to root?
Thanks in advance.
I think that's not possible. is between 2.1 and 2.3.3 to the consuming
Wolfbreak say this on his WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread Thread.

Sry but SE dumped Mediascape in 2.1 becouse it needs to much Time for OS Upgrades becouse porting Mediascape to newer Android Versions is critical and a longtime Process even for SE so i think theres no way to get it in 2.3, sorry!

Updated my X10 Rogers to 2.3.3, did I miss something?

Hi,
First I want to thank all the Dev's for the great work and dedication
Here is what I did:
* There was no update on Rogers network for my phone and I didn't really follow the scene for a while.
* I went and downloaded this file: X10a_3.0.1.G.0.75_AMERICA-US GENERIC 1233-8200.zip from arkedk's great post [Download] All X10 Firmwares
* I used the latest flash tool to get from 2.1 generic to the FW posted above.
* After making sure all works ok I used the tutorial that DooMLoRD kindly created
[How-To] Rooting & Installing Recovery on X10 Official SE GB [Picture & Video Guide]
Now the phone is rooted, all works great except the camera that FC's and gives a ''Camera not available'' error. Sometimes it works ok then the screen gets some kind of noise and I just press the home button to quit camera. Never rebooted on me though.
Is there anything I can do to get the phone more stable and reduce battery usage + fix the camera?
As I said everything else works (market, contacts, calendar, wallpapers, etc...)
Thank you again for all the hard work.
hey i had the same question and i found a solution too

Any other way to get 2.3 on mini than CyanogenMod?

Yeah, title says it all. I have a XPERIA X10 Mini running android 2.1
BTW i want to go back to 1.6 just to try it out again, but i dont know how, is there any official way or do i need to mod etc ?!
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Not yet.
Even longer answer:By the looks of things, all the Gingerbread roms available here have CyanogenMod inside them. Sony Ericsson haven't released 2.3 onto this phone and they're not likely to either, so the only way to get a 'pure' version of it would be to hope that somebody makes one...or make it yourself.
Why do you want GB without CM though? The reason so many people put it in their rom's is that it's very good. You get all sorts of improvements to the phone's functionality and performance.
As for going back to 1.6, there's no official way as SE will only give you the latest firmware. But you can use Flashtool to do it instead.
stock FTW!
I think the OP is like me and they actually prefer using the stock launcher. I've been looking for the same thing myself, a pure stock rom just updated 2.3.3.
I appreciate all of the cool tweaks and mods that CM adds to the rom but for me those tweaks usually end up borking another feature i'd rather use. I am also not a big fan of the customizations that some rom authors do like alternative launchers, heavily modified notification trays, weird fonts and color schemes. i'd prefer a just straight vanilla stock rom w/the sony launcher and camera; works nicely w/the screen realestate that we have w/the x10 mini. Again, i appreciate all the hardwork by all the rom authors/devs.
The big killer for me on the CM roms is the camera, still not up to the sony stock camera in my experience and again no stock launcher; some are close.
My solution was the following:
1. repair phone back to stock using PC Companion
2. reroot phone (bootloader already was unlocked)
3. reinstall CWM recovery
4. remove bloatware from stock rom (sony sync crap, game trials, quickoffice, etc)
5. update /etc/hosts file w/ad blocking version
6. create nand backup in CWM. (also made one after setting up miniCM7 in case i wanted to go back at anytime by restoring the nand)
if we could just get 2.3.3 in a pure stock form.. i'd be in heaven.. however, i may give the new ICS roms a try once they get to everyday-use-stable.
btw, the x10 minis have been the hardest to get root, recovery and kernels on of all of the android devices i've used yet. (Nexus one, HTC G2, LG G2x, Lenovo TPT, Galaxy Tab). mad props to the devs that got us to where we are now.

UI GB VS ICS 4.0.4 mini pro

Hi guys,
I'm sorry before.
I've updated my XMP to ICS 4.0.4. I think the UI of ICS is not as good as GB.
- SMS (GB is more like crystal-clear, ICS just a solid color)
- detail contact (just flat view, very different with GB)
And there are many apps that crash (unfortunately closed) or not responding. I often pull out my battery to restart my phone.
When i set date and time, after i select date/time then click set, it always not responding.
Soooooo .... I decide to reverse it back to Gingerbread 2.3.4 :crying:
Is there any firmware of ICS that solve my problems above? or i should just wait the official update from SONY?
just sharing with you guys ..
Thanks.
Which Rom did u use?
I think not because this problem is to ta related to compatibility of APIs app that still exist are not built to run on ICS. Bug on the time I do not know. But I see that ICS is not being high wattage. Because it causes the power consumption of application and hardware.
Official ROM
I update my mini pro with official ICS from Sony with SEUS.

Try flush ROM v2.
I think its the best ROM available.
Believe me its good.
After installing just try face unlock option that's the only thing missing in that ROM.

[Q] Need help to choose GB ROM to my x10a [SOLVED]

Hi guys,
(sorry if my words aren't clear, please tell me if any of what I say isn't undestandabble)
Yesterday I installed FeraLabs ICS v2.2 ROM in my x10a. Great ROM, I fell in love with android 4 and cyanogemod, it was my first contact with both. But I had some problems using it, some apps not working, others freezing the entire system, can't send SMS etc. I know that probably most of these bugs already have fixes, the ROM is being developed etc, but I decided that it's not for me yet, this is my main phone and I need it rock solid for day to day use.
So I decided to try some GB rom. But there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I couldn't find a thread answering what's the best for my case, so I'm gonna ask fro suggestions. =D
Here's what I need:
- A stable ROM, fully compatible with my x10a;
- Based on cyanogemod;
- If possible, faster than stock 2.3 ROM;
- If possible, less power-consuming than stock 2.3 ROM, but it's the least important feature (got a 3500mAh battery);
- I personnally don't like the Sony UI improvemments and general bloatwares. I like google default apps and UI. Also used a LG p500 for a year, liked a lot the LG punctual customizations;
- It can have bugs about video recording, I don't use it much;
- It can't have bugs with 3g, wifi, calling and texting (hehehe);
So, what flavors should I try?
Thank you all. ;D
Donut HD 2.2 it's faster than stock and cm and works perfect with good battery life 2
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
Hi,
Thanks for helping.
Looking at the instructions in the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30999560&postcount=1167). Will it run OK with the feralabs kernel that is currently is installed in my system? Shouldn't I change hte kernel?
If yes, what kernel should I flash?
Hi guys,
I flashed doomkernel, booted to xRecovery, installed the doomkernel wifi module from zip, booted again to xRecovery, installed the donuthd, booted again, installed donuthd, booted to xRecovery and installed donuthd update.
It's really fast, I've never used and android this fast. I'm currently installing my apps, wanna see if it will keep great at night. =D
But I've seen a problem:
My sms messages aren't being delivered, just like happened with Feralabs ICS 2.2 rom. Anyone got this problem? Does this have some relation with my phone being a x10a (and now it's appearing in in my system settings as x10i) ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi again,
Today I cleaned up my phone and tried to install donutHD + doomkernel again. Everything worked ok, except sending and receiving SMS messages. So I flashed back 2.1 stock firmware and 2.3 (GB) stock firmware, and SMS sending/receiving worked fine again, in both versions.
Does anybody has any clue about what can be happening? When I installed donutHD (about 3 times), I was in 2.1 stock firmware, root/busybox/xrecovery from Flashtool (newest version). The same problem ocurred with the Feralabs ICS v2.2 ROM with feralabs kernel for ICS.
I also tried to flash the 2.3th kernel n5-1 (comming from 2.1 stock firmware), but it got frozen in SE screen, during boot. Even xrecovery couldn't open. =/
=========================== edited:
Problem solved: As observed I was upgrading from 2.1 stock ROM to DonutHD. Doing this upgrade coming from android 2.3 stock ROM, the SMS sending/receiving works like a charm. =D
