remote wipe with least drain on battery? - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

Hey,
wich remote wipe program useses the least battery while running in background?
It also should be able to delete the SD Card and leave a message for the honest finder to get in contact with me to return the device.

Nagging doubts about ROMing

I have a rooted thunderbolt -- thank you revolutionary -- but I have not taken the next step yet, because there's a few things I want to clarify. I'm plan to do a clean wipe, so filter my questions through that lens, if you will.
I'm on stock froyo build 1.70.605. See, I rooted before gingerbread, and now I'm stuck here in the past. The OTA got me a few times, so I've become a lot better with clockwork recovery and nandroid backups. Oddly enough, the OTA is no longer being pushed on me.
1) Preserve contacts
You can do this through google, evidently. But is this something you have to do proactively? Or does it happen automatically behind the scenes? What do I do to get 'em back after the new rom is in place?
2) Preserve SMS messages
Now, I've downloaded handcent because of the froyo error where SMS messages go to unintended targets. Accidentally told my boss I was going to get raped in a van...was a joke for another buddy of mine.
I wanna keep my text messages. What do I do for that?
3) Apps and Data
I know this is what TiBu's for. My questions here are where does TiBu back up my data to? Does TiBu magically reappear after I install the ROM and then merrily offer to restore everything I had backed up?
Oh, and I've read conflicting things about using TiBu on system apps. I'm inclinded to take the side of "no, not ever."
4) Getting the right Radio
Ok, I know there is no clear answer to this. I'd just assume the latest gingerbread radio, unless the ROM specifies something different (most dont). My question here is that in some places people talk about CDMA and LTE radios differently, and other times they make it sound like theres just one comprehensive radio for both.
5) Flash!
Here's what I've gathered...use the clockwork recovery mod. Wipe the dalvik (davlik?) cache until it starts to chafe because you dont want to be flashin' dirty. This is where you'll do the ROM, radio, and if I'm going for bonus points, a kernel.
What's the order for this? ROM -> Radio -> Kernel? People also mention yanking the battery as a hard restart between these steps. Advisable?
6) Clocks - Over and Under and Through the Woods
Do you use the android market app set cpu for this? Or does it depend on what ROM and Kernel you're using?
I have heard that overclocking will help add to the wear and tear of your phone. I dont mind the temporary instability and figuring out what's the highest you can go. Just don't want to damage this thing. Oh, and what the duce is a governer? I get that it's supposed to be some kinda speed cap, but what imposes it? The ROM? The Kernel? Jesus?
More realistically, I want to underclock it when it's idle in order to conserve juice. I figure it's more useful than overclocking.
7) Battery Calibration
I read from what seemed like a well informed how-to guide that battery calibration is bunk. I could see that. Everybody has their own pseudo scientific way to repetitiously plug and unplug the battery until it achieves charge-nirvana. Is it more than superstition?
8) Launchers and Randomness
What's a launcher? Is it worth using? Why?
If I plug my SD card into another android device, will the data be recognized? Can I backup my SD card's contents to a windows PC?
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt
Great questions, i can answer a few. Governer- i believe regulates the frequencies or cpu runs. Certain govs give better batt life, i use smartassv2 with screen off profile set thru setcpu, another of your questions, which i use to overclock. Launcher- the thingy with the functions at the bottom of the screen. Sense launcher is "rosie", aosp or "stock" launcher is more along the lines of golauncher, launcher pro, adw launcher. Those give you the stock look and are cystomizable. I prefer sense based roms, thats why i bought htc phones for my last 5. Currently running the latest "eternity #238 build". Very nice, great battery for sense 3.5 with beats audio. Ill let others take over now, hope this helps some.

1) Preserve contacts
Are your contacts saved to phone, or as Google contacts? If to phone, you must save them to Google. Once saved to the cloud, they return after each/every ROM Flash after Google sign-in.
2) Preserve SMS messages
SMS Backup+ backs them up and saves them to your Gmail account - free in the market. There are other means to accomplish this - I find this one to my liking. I do not restore them to the device.
3) Apps and Data
These are saved to a Titanium folder on your SD card.
Restored individually or in batch mode, by the user.
Some ROMs inclue the app, some don't.
Do not restore system apps or data between different ROMs.
4) Getting the right Radio
This is 100% ymmv, for either kind - MR2 LTE may be the best for you combined with the the MR4 version of the other one.
Why? They largely depend on geography - a radio combo that may work for me in the South may not work at all or nearly as well for Donny in KS, or you, wherever you are - these are trial-and-error.
5) Flash!
Yes, Clockwork. Wipe data/factory reset - this wipes the cache partition, simultaneous with the dalvik. Then go to advanced, and format system. Device is thoroughly wiped. (opinions vary on this)
Wipe batt stats as needed. ROMs and kernels are flashed in Clockwork - aka CWM. Radios are flashed in HBOOT.
DO NOT pull the battery when flashing a radio. (opinions vary on this)
When flashing a ROM, and/or making a backup, make sure you have say 40% battery life left before you flash.
If a new ROM flash bootloops, battery pull is ok.
6) Clocks - Over and Under and Through the Woods
SetCPU is available as a free d/l for XDA users - buy it in the market to support the dev.
The ROM may have a performance tweak area - in that case, I don't use SetCPU, but the one built in.
7) Battery Calibration
Ymmv - user experience - based on what/how you use your phone, what/how many apps you sync and the frequency.
If I plug my SD card into another android device, will the data be recognized?
Certain of the data will be recognized. Depends on device inserted into, and the ROM. Example - if I take my Thunderbolt's SD card & put it in my buddy's Moto DroidX, it will depend what it sees.
Can I backup my SD card's contents to a windows PC?
Sure can. Plug in, mount as usb, drag & drop.
1) Preserve contacts
Google should do this by itself, but if you are in a sense rom you can hit menu and import/export and back up and restore contacts. There are also apps for this
2) Preserve SMS messages
I know sense has a backup function(find it in the menus), but if you are going to a nonsense rom then use one of the 1000 apps in the market for this
3) Apps and Data
tibu backs up data, and some roms include it, and on the rest you can dl it from the market, the data will still be there
4) Getting the right Radio
If i remember right older radios were seperate and now they are combined, but I have never personally messed with mine, the stock one works perfectly for me.
5) Flash!
backup, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, wipe data, flash **** in any order, but just flash the rom first because they usually come with a good kernel, you can flash radio and kernel later if needed
6) Clocks - Over and Under and Through the Woods
I use setcpu from the market, but there are other free alternatives, adn some roms have built in functions for it
a governer is what controls how the clock speed changes, for example performance keeps it at the max 24/7 and smartass has it at the min when the screen it off
7) Battery Calibration
only wipe it if you batterylife is really ****ed up, but it is just a psudo effect
8) Launchers and Randomness
it replaces your, well, the whole visual part of android, it is pointless on a sense rom, and most aosp roms have one of the most popular ones pre installed
9)If I plug my SD card into another android device, will the data be recognized?
it should be
10)Can I backup my SD card's contents to a windows PC?
ofcourse, but I have never heard of anyone doing it

[Q] Problems with Turn on USB storage

Hi,
I have htc legend with C7 installed. The USB storage used to run
quite well until some day ago. Now whenever I turn it on, the status bar on
top gets hidden somewhere, and I cannot find anyway to turn it off other then
restarting. But status bar is only one problem, my computer won't show any
USB storage, and there is no way I can access the files in my device.
What could be the problem? Why is my status bar gets hidden? Also I cannot
find turn on/off USB storage option in WIFI settings menu. where is it?
Reflash your rom and everything will be running perfectly again.

I think you might have some system apps on your SD card so when that dismounts the phone crashes.
I was hoping to fix it without having to reinstall things. I dont want to do everything again , unless I go for ICS
I have been moving apps to SD card using App mover utlity (only the apps that it suggest). I will have a look again, but I don't think I can move something that systems needs to run.
Here is the list of apps in SD card which i think may be causing some troubles:
Google+
Hotmail
Messages Widget
Google+ was updated a few months after release to have it natively moved to the SD card. The only drawback is you can't use the post widget. (Which really isn't so great)
For Hotmail, you can use Hotmail Exchange ActiveSync with the Android Mail app. It's the mail app you see when you forget to install GApps. Setup: http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010/08/windows-live-hotmail-gets-exchange-activesync.ars
Works great.
As for the Messages Widget, I don't know what it is. But since it has the word widget, I'll tell you that Android doesn't support widgets for apps that are moved to the SD card, unless it's on an ext partition. So you'd best leave that alone.
If you're absolutely certain that these apps are the root of your problem, consider these alternatives. If you're not, still try 'em out. They're worth not risking workarounds for.

[Q] Long-Term memory handling problem, please help!

This problem has got to the point of forcing me to register on XDA forums. I have a Samsung G II running android 4.1.2 (jelly-bean of course) and over the past week the memory (storage) handling has gotten really bad. It's as if the OS has given up on storing items now. Problems include-
After taking, receiving or downloading a photo (generally over whatsapp but it occurs to other apps like wallbase) The photo will be stored on my phone for the day until i turn off my phone, now after turning it back on however the photos are gone just leaving a blank space which displays "unable to load" in the gallery.
Next issues is that my apps i now install get installed in the next dimension because they don't appear to be on my phone even when i do a file search or plug in the device into my computer. But here is where it gets crazy they are on my phone and do take space up, but it's no where to be found.
The OS now presumes i have an SD card even though i don't have one plugged in. Because of this! big games and Apps now now try to use this fake SD that doesn't exist and this causes them to give me errors along the lines of "Sd is full or inaccessible". Pffft
Please someone help me, this issue is annoying me so badly and is rendering my phone useless if it can't store data.
I appologize you were forced to register here @ this great forum and though you still might find your answer here, ironic, anyway.Have you tried wiping cache, dalvik and fixing permissions, are you even rooted?I did'nt see you mention that,so i have no idea, also, you might want to back up what you want to keep and format and partition your sd card, not sure how big your sd crad is either,so you might need a bigger sd card for all your stuff.I myself use a 32GB Sandisk, class 10 and it works great, never ran out of space or had any speed issues on my OG EVO.

Rooted? yes. I've deleted all the caches under the sun and still no results. And i have over 4Gb of free internal storage according to my phone. I have my data backed up but i'd rather have a direction to go before starting anything. :crying:
I'm not seeing anything for your phone except this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122

[Q] Mediascannerservice; in the name of all that is holy, why won't you die?

I have just received a lenovo P780. I ordered it from etotalk. They pre-installed the etotalk rom. As far as I can tell it is simply the factory rom, set to english with supersu installed.
The device has a battery life that is not as good as a 4Ah battery should be. I installed 'wakelock detector'. It turns out 'mediascannerservice' runs all the time. The device never goes into sleep mode.
I have read everything I can about solving this problem. Everything I have read implies it is an issue with a corrupted media file. The thing is, there are no media files on this device. There is no SD card in it.
Things I have tried:
-Resetting to factory image.
-Deleting ALL the media files I could find (inbuilt ringtones etc).
-Resetting to factory image and uninstalling everything I could, clearing all caches and deleting all media files.
-Resetting to factory image and uninstalling everything I could, clearing all caches, deleting all media files and wiping the internal storage.
None of this does anything. This POS mediascanning service will not stop. WTF do I have do to find WTF is going on. Is there some kind log I can look at that will tell me wtf is wrong with this POS 'mediascannerservice'?
My rom has this inbuilt, but did you try with Greenify?
So in the entirety of xda developer, no one knows wtf mediascannerservice is doing or indeed how to stop it?
igasil case
So after much floundering and gnashing of teeth I have finally tracked it down to something to do with drmprovider.apk and downloadmanager.
Simply clearing the cache of these programs stops media scanner in its tracks. WTF.
Unfortunately I have to clear the cache on every boot.
In other breaking news, it would seem Lenovo phones are full of spyware. If you run a program like interceptop-ng and watch network activity you will see some really dodgy ****.
If you use any of the built in lenovo stuff, i.e. dialer, contacts or lenovo power manager you will see they make HTTP connections to some remote server. If you look at the data you will see it contains your phone number, IMEI and location. **** you very much lenovo.

Samsung Galaxy S5 continually mounts and dismounts microSD card for no reason

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with update 6.0.1 with the latest security patch level applied 11/1/16. Recently my microSD card status will go between two indicators in the notification bar: 1) SD card - For transferring photos and media, or 2) SD card was removed, please insert a new one. In both cases the same micro SD card remains in the phone. When I receive the message that the card has been removed, I can click on Storage in the Settings menu and see that only internal storage appears. At some point the SD card will reappear with the message from #1. I can restart my phone, I can turn it off and back on again, etc. but none of those things seem to alter the phone status of identifying that an SD card exists in the phone. It's quite annoying especially when I want to take photos or am transferring data from internal storage to the SD card when it suddenly becomes "removed". However, again, the change from being considered installed/mounted or missing/removed will happen at any time whether I'm using my phone or not. I've started to wonder whether I picked up a virus by visiting a site while reading news through the Google Play Newstand., which I've been doing a lot lately,.. but I've installed/uninstalled at least 5 different anti-virus/malware software and nothing is identifying a problem on my phone. AVG, McAfee, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
The only other oddity I have noticed about the same time is that I have Verizon Protection and Support which suddenly acted like I had never used it before and made me agree to the terms of use again - once I say ok to the terms, it returns that it cannot access data and try again later. Nothing I have done related to that software has worked and Verizon's only suggestion is to factory reset in which some users indicated that did not resolve the problem.
Has anyone else experienced either of these issues and found resolutions? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Try Using your device without SD card for some time and then put that chip again. If the situation persist try wiping Cache of Your phone.
There is probably to many webdavs using all your cu. Obtrusive. To root or not to root. Providers say that root is what causes issues of vulnerability. You get these problems ether way but you can only fix with root.
What ever the problem is formatting your car should straighten it out. If you don't want to arrange your files a quick fix for webdav is to use root explorer. Search for "nomedia"and delete them all. Hopefully only apps you want have a good enough grip to put them back.

Thank you. I don't know how long you mean for "some time" but I did for about 30 minutes. I did use McAfee to clear app cache to free up space but I just checked and my current message is "SD card removed. Insert a new one" so apparently that didn't do it. I' did not allow it to clear thumbnails though.

Well, until now I considered myself fairly tech savvy... but I am not sure what webdavs are or what it means to root or not. Is root explorer software? And then, the next question is where would I search for "nomedia"? If you'd rather I do more research on these myself I can do that, no worries... but if they are easy enough to explain that would be great. Thanks so much!

Some time means at least a day.
And wiping Cache here I meant Clear the Entire Phone's Cache through Recovery
Good browsers have a search bar in them. A web dav is a network connection to a folder. If it is causing your card not to work now than likely it was put there by a demon and you want it gone. If you don't know what root is then you are a long ways out from putting up a fight. The only thing I could really advise you to do is do a factory reset that includes formatting the card. If you do ever decide to root be very careful the method.
