I keep on losing signal strength (red x appears on signal bars). I am not sure what is the cause of this problem. Can someone tell me if this is normal or to what causes this problem. I have been using Memory Booster as well as Battery Booster but I have not experienced this problem until the stock 2.1 update came from SE.
Here's my phone information.
Model: X10i WORLD/GLOBAL (dunno if it's the same) GENERIC
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 2.1.54
Build number: 2.1.A.0.435
Btw, just got my phone rooted but I haven't done anything special yet like using custom ROMs.

How many bars do you have on your phone? Looks like it's weak. It happens to me when the signal strength is weak...
Max for signal is 4 bars. I have like 3 bars then I get an x mark on the signal. Out of the blue I just lose signal strength. When I was using Memory Booster, everytime it boosts and kills the "backup and restore" (comes with SE's 2.1-update1) application/process I lose signal strength. I excluded the process and everything went well but then the problem popped up again recently. Is this a normal problem?

I have been watching the Signal Strength from Settings > About > Status and noticed the reported numbers do not correlate with the Cell Bar Level display at the top or the numbers I am logging with the Cell Connectivity Tracker application.
Here are some observations from using the "Cell Connectivity Tracker" application:
Cell strength as it relates to the Cell Signal Bars
0 bars = -106dBm
1 bar = -101dBm
2 bars = -96dBm
3 bars = -91dBm
4 bars = -86dBm​
Right now I have no visible Bars being displayed and my Signal Strength is -72dBm on the Status page and the Cell Connectivity Tracker logged -106dBm. My phone even went to 1x (xRTT).
My phone is constantly changing from -101(dBm) and -106(dBm), constantly jumping between Cell Locations and reporting Physical Link Down. My TWAS (Time without a signal) is currently 61% for 1h 7m. I'm also less than 1/2 mile from a VZW tower.
Speed Test #1 was 159kbps D/L and 224kbps U/L.
Speed Test #2 was 118kbps D/L and 365kbps U/L.
Speed Test #3 was 50kbps D/L and 469kbps U/L.
Something is definitely not correct with the cell signal strength reporting on the Fascinate.
What if the phone's software is reporting a higher signal than what is actually being received and this incorrect information is being used to make operating system/network connectivity decisions? Might this cause all types of issues from lagging, slow data performance and bad battery life? I find it very strange that all three signal strength measurements are reporting different values.
BTW, I am running Stock 2.1update1 S:i500.04 V.EA28 (rooted with some bloat removed).

Same thing happens with mine. Never found a fix or case for it. I thought it was done after EC01 but that didn't Signal constantly drops from 3G to 1x wherever I am even if I have full bars 3G. Something is seriously wrong with the radio.
Same here. Is this a problem with all the Fascinates? Or just certain ones?

If it's the case that a significant number of Fascinates have cell strength issues, wouldn't this support some type of "electronics lemon law"?
I am on my second Fascinate and both have exhibited the same symptoms. My wife's Fascinate is having issues too.
Other Samsung Galaxy S phone users don't seem to be as vocal about the battery, cell strength and lag issues. This makes me wonder if the Fascinate really does have a design/hardware issue. To top it off, the Fascinate is one of the last Galaxy S phones to receive Froyo. Maybe the supposed "issue" is causing problems with the developer testing of Froyo?

Hy. I have a problem that is very pissing me off. I have my Hero from a week now, I instaled Froyo 2.2.1 rom whit the lattest radio update from Villain`s forums. Here come`s the problem. My signal bar isn`t moving at all. It stay`s full all the time. I mean is not precise.I need to go to de basemment to descend. And when I go there is descending two bars in a time. With another signal widgets is working fine, i mean the signal si ascending and descending well. What could be the solve of my porblem ?

everywhere i go the situation is the same .. the signal jumbs two bars at a time. there is no way i can have one or three bars on my htc, only two of four.
Have you tried wiping the dalvik and data cache ?
Yes, I wiped everythink on the phone, instaled nem roms, changed the radio databases but the problem is the same.. (
If third party apps are telling you that the signal is fine then the only thing it can be is the signal pictures in the framework-res.apk are wrong, the radio firmware wont change that.
Have you tried to install a new theme or anything ?

LATER EDIT: I just checked and my signal strenght jump from -89 dBm (4 signal bars) to -101 dBm (2 signal bars) directly.
what could be the problem? I instaled also another theme from the theme chooser with another signal icons but the problem is the same.
What radio firmware are you using ?
Right now I`m using baseband version 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 , but like I said I tried different Raio versions and the problem persists.
What rom are you using ?
The only thing left to suggest is to try another rom

I've got the exact same problem using the same rom. It currently says no bars where I would normally get full signal but is pulling in 3G and HSDPA? I'm on Orange. Could be network?

I have the exact same problem. I can't remember when it started as my Hero has been through so many changes.
I'm currently using Elelinux 6.2 Froyo Speedmachine after coming from Froyd 1.7.2. I reckon it must be the radio software personally. I only get three network states, no bars (but there is a signal), two bars or four. Sometimes, but I do get one bar but its rare.
On a side note I'm getting sick of Oranges data network. Quite often it says H or 3G and yet nothing seems to happen.

Yes, this is the exact thing that is happening to me! Hope someone could solve our radio problem!
I am running the SGSII on stock 2.3.3 on I9100XXKDJ (Which I think is the latest) and I have noticed over the last few days, that unlike my SGS 1, it seems to transfer data via 3G when I'd expect it to be using the available WiFi.
Anyone else noticed this?
Nope, it works the same as my SGS1 for me. As soon as im connected on wifi the 3G/H icon disappears leaving only the signal strength, and I am on wifi only for data.
What can I use to determine what is using the 3G Data services?
Also how can I see how strong the WiFi Signal is as far as the phone is concerned? Anyone else noticing the WiFi strength on their SGS2 is worse than on the SGS1?
Also interestingly I have both a WiFi and 3G icon on the top bar at the moment!
I don't have a SGS1 but it seems that the WiFi signal strength is not very strong on my SGS2 with KE1. Maybe with a newer firmware it is better.
I have poor signal and bad reception with my galaxy s2
baseband is KI3 , I live in the philippines, where everyone around me will have full signal but my phone will have none or 1 bar. I have flashed different radios, it has made no difference.
ideas? Is it a radio problem? I dont even know what radio it should be on.
Logic says use same radio as those around you .

Change your modem, popular ones include KI4, KI1, KL1, and other older ones. Try them see how it affects your signal and if it's poor try another.

None of these seem to increase signal, could something be wrong with my phone? Its just like the signal is weak, outside its fine, but inside it doesnt pick up very well compared to other phones, its always no bars or 1 bar.

Are you using any case or cover that may hinder the antenna
I have a case but taking it off makes no difference, the signal goes from no bars to 1 bar, and shows edge, while other phones get full bars and 3g
Removing the case for me made remarkable improvement in signal strenght
I have so much trouble with the phone, im ready to get rid of it. It makes no sense that other phones get full bars while this expensive phone gets 1 bar or none and drops calls.
Also it never picks up 3g hardly, while other phones will be on 3g solid.

Hi i have sphinx g pro 1.5 rom installed but i am having frequent operator signals dropping issue. I installed stock rom but issue is not resolved. Another phone with same operator placed near my phone shows full signal strength while my phone shows no service. Anyone having any idea what is wrong?
