There are rumours that android 2.4 will be launched April this year and had better support for tablets, than previous version. Any one could confirm this?
It will be good news if someone could build a 2.4 android firmware.
Regards,

Best to concentrate on 3.0 since it's built for tablets. 2.4 only adds some features for tablets and dual core support iirc.

2.4 will be a platform for smartfones with dual cores, not really tablets. it will include some features of 3.0, but will be mainly a mix of gingerbread and honeycomb. it is done to provide the "honeycomb" experience on dual cores cpu smartphones, since gingerbread has no support for dualcores, and honeycomb is made for tablets only, mostly with dualcore support. something in between is 2.4.
u got a folio 100? , then u got a tablet, so aim for the 3.0
If 3.0 will only support 1280x800 screens on we will be able to get it to work on Folio?

It would be irrational to bind a platform onto one resolution. So yes, It will work on other resolutions as well. I can't see that happening.

Well, Honeycomb had been 'successfully' ported over onto the Nook Color which runs 1024x600 resolution (doing a search on Youtube with 'nook color honeycomb' will give you some results). So maybe there is hope yet for the Folio!
I also think it's better to wait for the 3.0 than the 2.4
I 'm not so sure that honeycomb is the way to go... but sure it's pretty.

Any possibility that we might see NotionInk's cool Eden UI on the Archos? I know the NotionInk Adam has Tegra, but I don't know if it's required for Eden...
Check out the NotionInk web site under the Software section if you don't know what I am talking about...
Moved to general as not android development
Probably not a good idea to try. Eden seems to be using nvidia's chip heavily. I wouldn't want to try that on our Archos'. Besisdes, let's see what honeycomb has for us as far as UI is concerned.
HoneyComb has many things to show us, a pre-release of the SDK is out and it's GREAT!

Hey!
I was just wondering, is this the tablet you are developing for here?
http://www.hannspree.com/EU/EN/Prod...l.aspx?sort=2&page=1&pattrs=&attrs=&viewAll=0
I am thinking about buying it, but I am wondering if it's a good choice?
Is there any firmware updates to 2.3 or 3.0, so I can take proper use of the Tegra II CPU it has?
And can I install a proper Android interface, so I don't have to use the weird one Hannspree provide?
Thank you
As far as I can see these two tablets are not quite the same, but mostly.
Viewsonic has a full-sized USB port and a webcam (skype video chat?), but does it also have an HDMI output so I can play movies on my TV?
And does anybody know if I can buy a Viewsonic G tablet in Europe, or is Hannspad better?

There is a custom [ROM] CyanogenMod 7.1 [alpha232 build] for it.
And two Honeycomb ROMs FlashBack72 and GtaComb33 with kernel adam 4 integrated
And a modded Stock [ROM] HannsTitan v0.3.1 [Update Aug 25]
In all ROMs there are no Hardware acceleration.
But beside that it works like a charm

Hey guys.
Got a chance to buy an hp for £180. Would you say it was better than the vega? At the moment running vega comb I must admit I'm loving my vega! What are your thought please?
Much better mate....
The hardware of the tp is far superior to that of the Vega. Once Android is ported I'm sure we will have a honeycomb port in some fashion, and also ICS
Sent from my Samsung Galactic Superstar S II
I've got both and have handed the Vega to my wife now I am using the Touchpad pretty much full time.
i think vega's screen is pretty poor
Ok guys that's good.
What's the software like then? Is it as good as vegacomb?
Advent Vega
+1 Tegra SOC
+1 MicroSD Slot
+1 3G Sim
-1 512 ROM
-1 512 RAM
Hasn't the Vega got some limitation with wifi switching off when the screen is off?

Not with new vegacomb, still works.
Ok cool, will get the hp and sell the vega.
Prob silly q, assume you can get the android Market on it?

You can't get android anything on it just yet.
I have both a G-tablet & a Touchpad. While I expect the Touchpad to be my favorite device once a fully functional Android rom exists, the G-tablet is my 'Go-To' device today.
I would still suggest getting the HP, but don't sell your Vega just yet.

I had a Vega and it didn't have a 3G slot, but by far and away the biggest -1 is the screen, it was terrible.

I think sooner rather than later. There is a very crippled pre-alpha build available that shows that it at least runs/boot and has multi-touch support.
the CM7 team has made some more advancements and has mostly functioning WiFi. you can check @dalingrin twitter feed for updates.
Also vega has hdmi output.... No tv out on the hp touchpad..... but that screen is a good +10 on the touchpad compared to the vega....

cyanogenmod team made great progress with android being able to boot on touchpad as well as 10 pts multitouch and according to updates, made good progress on activating wifi on it but they also say there's still a lot to do... my advice too is to keep your vega if you really want android. I haven't received my touchpad yet.. but read webos is pretty neat and good but lacks apps
Can the Nook Tablet run Nook Color Roms? I only ask this because I fell in love with the android 3.0 rom for the Nook Color and I found it odd for the developers to launch from cm7 to cm9 and skip 3.0. Anyways if it can great! If not, could somebody port it to our tablets? I would do it myself if I could but I don't know how to port rom, but I'm learning slowly
~Thanks!!!
No, for the love of god never try to flash stuff that was developed for one device onto another device unless it is explicitly stated somewhere that it will work.
As for 3.0, it was basically a beta test for 4.0. This is why Google did not release source for 3.0 until 4.0 was released. There is literally no advantages to running 3.0 and thus why developers free new devices go straight to 4.0

Oh, I liked 3.0 because it was meant for android tablets and it looks better with some features such as how the widget drawer is.

Android 4.0 has all of the features of 3.0 and more. As I said, 3.0 was essentially a beta test for 4.0 and thus why 1. the source was not released until the release of Android 4.0 and 2. it was restricted to tablets. With the release of 4.0, the OS is now designed for tablets/phones/any sized device. It is also very refined, smoother, and a more "finished" product.
Ubuntu Just released this video showing off their new OS for tablets. In the video, they are using what looks like a Nexus 10. But what do you guys think? Would you use this if we were able to put it on our TouchPad? Don't know if that will be possible. But just asking to see what you guys think of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h384z7Ph0gU&hd=1
EDIT: Actually, I dont think our TouchPad meets the minimum requirements. But I guess we will see.
Good article on Engadget as well... looks promising
Just read this too, on omgubuntu.com really hoping it can be ported!

If this is running on top of the latest version of Ubuntu for ARM and seeing that there are working versions of Ubuntu out there for the Touchpad, then it seems possible we would get this assuming its source code is released and someone is willing to port it. Their requirements are a bit steep (2GB RAM and Cortex A15 processor), but seeing that they are providing a test version for the Nexus 7 which is 1GB of RAM and quad core A9, then the Touchpad may be fine (not sure if the Touchpad is A8 or A9 or if that would even matter)

I dont believe its running on the top of anything. Its its own OS. I'm hoping it could be ported to the TouchPad. I'd like to try it out.
Apps...
1. If my app isn't on Ubunto, well...
2. Webos was there...
3. But i think, windows 7 will be my last tie to Microsoft, if my app is on Ubunto.

Actually the Touchpad has an A7. Here is a link comparing versions: http://www.bdti.com/InsideDSP/2011/11/17/ARM
That said, I like the new layout and just hope the Touchpad can run it smoothly. There is already a functional alpha of Ubuntu 13.04 for the touchpad (in the Other Development forum), so I can't imagine it will not happen.

That is normal Ubuntu without the tablet interface but that alpha works really nice though. I'm an Ubuntu desktop user since 2008.
i would so love this. I want to check out this new mobile ubuntu so bad and would rather flash my touchpad than my galaxy nexus.
Here's hoping someone picks it up and makes it happen.
This is a good video of the OS running really well on the Nexus 10.

Straight from Ubuntu's website, details are coming tomorrow about porting Ubuntu Mobile to other devices:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Also of significance is a bunch of Cyanogenmod hardware code showing up on: http://phablet.ubuntu.com/gitweb
I wonder if this means it will be easier to compile for devices supported by Cyanogenmod, which would make a Touchpad port much easier.

Its the real deal. You can get this on any Nexus device right now. Just be aware, its not fully functional. Its just a preview to show off what it will feel and look like when it is done. And if your a developer, it gives you something to test your apps out on. Thats it.
Hopefully, once the OS really matures and becomes functional, someone will build it for us, seeing as its just as easy as building CM 10.1

Sent from Mr Z's HP Touchpad
The only problem with that is that we don't have CM10.1
CM10.1 is completely do-able for the TP. Many other devices using the same chip set are now into nightly builds. Its just a matter of setting it up for the TP. CN already as an alpha build in 4.2.1 for testing.
