[Q] Audio programs quit or pause

On my old Vibrant and on my new Epic Touch, after a while audio programs (Google Listen, Google Music, DoubleTwist, Audible) will pause themselves (in the first two cases also quitting the program). It's very annoying because I listen to music, books and podcasts while driving or walking or working. Also, it's getting cold and I hate to keep taking off my gloves to restart the programs. I've seen this problem mentioned on other forums but no solutions. Please help if you can.
RedJen
Nobody's got a suggestion on what I might be doing wrong?
Ok, after using Titanium Backup to uninstall Task Manager the audio programs no longer auto-quit. I installed a third party task manager and now everything's good as long as I don't long hold Home which causes the phone to reboot. Also, now I'm afraid to allow the (2.3.6?) update.

[REF] Audio Problems and Solutions

Topic: Audio Problems and Solutions
For testing purposes, I will be using CM7 as the ROM for testing; although stated throughout I have not had the audio issues others are stating unless noted why(HEAVY USAGE). Also, I will not have any MODS or Personal Hacks overlaying the out-of-box CM7! That means no zep scripts, no speedy scripts, no other personal mods other than what you get from a stock CM7 flash. No ATKs and no Memory Optimizer apps. Power Mode is set to Performance, although Power Saving has never caused issues in the past. It is IMPERATIVE that you state ANY personal MODs over any ROM that you choose to use for me to help you!
This thread is going to cover the audio issues users are having with the Droid x2. This means popping sounds, no sound, sound too loud, static noises, random mutes, etc. ANYTHING that deals with audio issues for the Droid x2!
I have had the Droid x2 since its release, and I have yet to have any of the symptoms above, let alone ANY audio issues other than random bluetooth disconnects with my car's stereo system. I isolated the issue with that and the problem has been "solved" as of me writing this. But the issues I see users having deals with audio stuttering or lagging as the user is trying to listen to music.
Now, for me to try and help you, and others I'm sure, I need you to fill out a form and post it at the beginning of your post. It should look like this:
Device: Milestone x2/Droid x2
ROM: GBP7/Eclipse/Molten/Liberty/Etc. (Also, Provide the specific version "GBP7 v.5"
Android Version: This will be kernel version, android version, etc. go to About Phone to acquire.
Audio Software: Google Music, WinAMP, PowerAMP, etc.
Audio Enhancers: DSP Manager or any of the like to change the "normal" output of the device.
Init Scripts and personal mods: Please upload the scripts and explain all mods you did that are not posted in the x2 dev section.
Sound Output: Stock Speaker, Line Out Speakers, Ear Plugs, BT Headset, BT Speakers, etc.
SD Card Info: SD Card size, how much space is used and free, and SD Class(The class is the small number in the circle of your SD card)
Symptom: What the issue is.
Then give a DETAILED description of what you problem is, what you have tried to do to solve the issue, ANY INFORMATION that you feel would be relevant to the problem, POST IT! I don't have your specific handset and I see posts of several users stating they are having issues, yet I have never experienced any of the common problems. This is not denying that the problems don't exist, but I'm trying to help, and I will need to know as much as possible.
*Try to get me average free ram and cpu usage if you can. Look up an app called seepu by Latedroid in the market, the free version should suffice.
Further Testing:
-Before trying to apply one of the fixes, try these instructions before proceeding. With some devices having issues and others not, we need to isolate the cause of this issues. This will help more with the research.

Possible Fixes:
DISCLAIMER: These may or may not work, you should know what you are doing before venturing too far on your own.

Device droid x2
Rom: stock rooted and still bloat
Android ver: 2.3.5 build 412 kernal 0007
Audio enhancers: none
Sound: earphones, speakers
Sdcard:16gb class 10, 4gb free
Symptom: through music player for mp3 stored on phone popping, skipping.
Solution: not really a solution but more of a way to mitigate it to a low number of times. Currently only happens about 3 times per 105ish songs on stock player.
-First be on android 2.3.5 build 412.
-V6 supercharger update 8 option 9 then option 12.
-Setcpu or init.d cpu script keep a high of 1ghz and low of 608mhz.
-get v6noop.sh and run it with script manager.
-use naven's inithack v0.6
Those steps get rid of the pop and considerably cuts the skipping down. I noticed that once the cpu falls under 608 thats when the chances of music skipping will happen. And not so much as availible ram. I had as low as 59mb free of ram with out a skip but as soon as the cpu falls under 608 the chance of skipping will happen.
This method gets a good result with stock bloated and without poweramp high buffer. Heck i needed eclipse and all that with power amp on 2.3.4 and the results still wasnt as good as it with 2.3.5. Skipped every 6-8 songs per 80 with said method on 2.3.4.
Thats why i refuse to use any rom based on 2.3.4.
Oh btw forgot to mentioned that i have my music on the phone itself since my sdcard is known to fail on me (and if it does you can't do anything really with your phone if you have sd flipflop enabled learned that the hard way).

So, is the problem still going on? If so is it every 105ish songs? Or where you providing an answer?
I'm just mentioning this as an aside, but this is my second Dx2, it's a refurb. The reason I had to do a warranty call was because the headphone jack stopped playing music probably. By this I mean that the headphone jack wouldn't play because the connection between the jack and the motherboard was faulty. Hardware failure. Well now guess what, the same thing has happened to this refurb they gave me when I called my warranty. I'm not being abusive to this phone, all I'm doing is plugging in the earphones. This is the second Dx2 I've broken in the exact same way. Honestly I think it's because the dx2 is a pos, and the abused child workers in China making this aren't putting enough saughter on the headphone jack. So now I have to sbf back to stock yet again and do a warranty call.
But yeah, I'm just complaining and telling of my experience. I don't get skips on audio very often anymore. Eclipse mostly fixed that.

I have had no issues with my headphone jack, has the phone since they came out, use headphones many times daily.
As for the skipping, one can try a faster SD card if your music is on the external SD card.
My skipping was fixed when I installed Player Pro, so I think it is an issue with the Android player itself.
Nevermind

I currently use PowerAMP because it has gapless playback and crossfading. I didn't see on the Android Market description that PlayerPro has gapless playback. Does it? Reason I ask is even with PowerAMP, I get the occasional skip, but not much. Just curious.
Thanks!
If I heavily multi task..I get skips....but like stated HEAVY MULTITASKING

I have the same issue with my headphone jack, any slight movement of the headphones and it turns off the music app, it's really annoying. I sent my original X2 for a refurbished one and it does the same. I pretty much gave up on that but I'm able to listen to it if i place it just right with no movement and i hold it in my jacket pocket upright.
I never get skips. No matter how hard I multitask. Frankly I'm suspicious that all of the scripts everyone runs are part of the problem. The only time I've had issues with skipping or redraws or anything memory related was running v6 or speedy. My phone ran like a hot piece of **** with speedy on stock. Well except for on startup but after about 8 hours I would need a reboot. Stock Eclipse v1.3 with the mashup build.prop has given me the best performance all around.
But I'm not an Android dev. Just a casual observer.

Sorry i was providing both. Its on going but has been subdued to that extent. When i was on 2.2.2 - 2.3.4 it skipped and popped constantly even on eclipse (up to the last one that was for 2.3.4) and the best i could get was on 6-10 songs would skip per 80 songs and popped a lot and that was using v6 supercharger and powramp high buffer. So with the method i put its all free apps and knocks it down to 3-5 songs every 105 (thats about how long one of my playlist is). With out them pops skips on almost every single song. So yes this is a mitigate solution not a permanent fix solution.
So if your phone skips constantly then try what i did and see if it helps.

This would have a factor in the skipping of music because the CPU would drop or overload at random times. I personally have never had the skips except with the heavy HEAVY multitasking like stated earier, even on stock 2.2.2 til 2.3.5. The goal here is to isolate what the user is doing while the music is playing. I'm almost positive 90% of the issues are scripts or playing texas holdem or a tegra game or something while listening to music.
I listen to music for several hours every day at work. It skips on the stock rom, Molten, Liberty, and Eclipse roms. And that's with no multitasking since I'm working and can't sit there playing with my phone. Both stored and streaming music have always skipped since I got this phone. I even tried increasing the minimum cpu speed to 600mhz like someone else suggested, but that had no affect. The only way that I have been able to stop it is with option 9 in the V6 script.

Firstly, I am envious of Pepperm1nt and others who don't experience any music stuttering, you lucky chaps. I guess you guys were really lucky to get a good bug-free phone on purchase.
I for one do experience music stuttering.
Device: Droid x2
ROM: Liberty
Android Version: 2.3.4
Audio Software: Google Music
Audio Enhancers: DSP Manager with Bass and Equalizer turned on
Sound Output: Ear phones
SD Card Info:32 GB Sandisk class 4 SD card (I also had a generic 8 GB class 4 SD card before). About 8 GB free.
Symptoms: When I listen to music, I sometimes experience music stutters. I can't remember clearly, but I think I don't get (or at least only rarely get) sound stutters when I am doing nothing on the phone. On occasion, music stutters when I turn off the display and sometimes when I am browsing the web on the phone. A couple of sure shot ways to cause music to stutter is by going into Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. This causes the Settings app to load all the currently installed apps and this takes some processing and causes a LOT of music stutters.
I also noted that music stuttering increases if I use the DSP manager settings. Also, it is worth pointing out that the amount of multitasking doesn't really matter because I experience music stuttering even on relatively mild to no multitasking..
Is it possible that there is a hardware bug on some (or many) of the Droid X2's and some people (like pepperm1nt) were just lucky to get a phone that didn't have those bugs and are not experiencing any music stuttering (or at least experiencing a lot less stuttering than others)?
Also, I was wondering if using CM7 that dragonzkiller released might help alleviate or even cure this problem? Is it possible and did someone try to check?

I haven't tried CM7 yet and I won't until it can read the external SD card, since that is where my music and my apps are at.
But, reports from people who have put it on their phones have been that the ROM is very fast. I would hope so with all the BLUR removed and it being a pure AOSP image.
But, as for now, if I don't use the V6 scripts, then my music stuttering on stock is pretty bad, even when I'm not multitasking anything. Although, I am running Juice Defender, so that might have something to do with it as well.
Still, even on my old LG Vortex (ARM6, 600mhz), music stuttering never occurred when I wasn't doing anything else on it, and then even if I was playing a game, it was rare, but it would happen.

Even I am holding back from flashing CM7 until the External SD card is working as that is where all my music and a lot of my media is. Also, I don't have so severe music stuttering issues on stock though.
Question... What personal mods have you made (anything that is not posted in the x2 Dev secton)? Also, upload your init scripts if you don't mind.Ima update the OP

It might be worth it to note that there are different versions of the droid x2. If you pull out the battery you can see it listed. It starts SJUG. Maybe some of these problems only exist on certain revisions ( I believe there are only 2 versions).
Audio codec problem
I think this is on topic relative to the nature of this thread.
I work in a corporate environment, in a manner of speaking. We use M$ Exchange for emails. We also use IP Office and voicemails are sent to email as attachments.
I cannot play the email attachment with either the standard player or with WinAmp. I can play them with RemoteWave but even then they are somewhat scratchy.
I am running a rooted stock 2.3.4 with bloat apps frozen with no addons/scripts/roms.
Previously, I had read that the codec used is the problem and that certain Android builds on ceraton devices have problems. This goes back to my initial Froyo build on this phone (acquired in Jul '10).

A bit off topic lol

I wonder what these different "versions" mentioned could be why there is so many different issues with not only music skips but why it seems so many issues are inconsistent here.

[Q] Best FREE music player for 2.3?

I've used a few media players, and they all come up short somehow. So, I'm wondering if we can get an ongoing discussion of people's favorite music players.
FREE only, I don't care if PowerAmp is the best, I'm not dropping five bucks when there are decent free options. And there are decent free options if we look. Supporting developers is cool, but we chose an open platform to have choices, not to be shoehorned into a one-size-fits-some solution. Also, we know PowerAmp, PlayerPro, and DoubleTwist Premium are the best. There's no need for a lively conversation about the best paid music app. Just pick one of those and you're okay.
Amazon MP3. First non-stock media player I stuck with for any amount of time. Decent player but kind of barebones. Nice if you have music in Amazon's cloud (I do).
MIUI player. Found on XDA somewhere. Decent, but ugly (black and white). Had something else wrong with it, I forget what.
Cloudskipper. Has an EQ, but lives up to its name -- for some reason, it skips, like your phone all of a sudden has moving parts. Imagine a first-generation CD player in a truck that's gone mudding and you wouldn't be far off. Also, it purges its playlists every so often (every time new music is added to the memory card, I think).
Songbird. Currently using this. So far it's alright. Open source, so there's that.
Basically, I need the player to let me make a playlist and shuffle it. That's my core requirement. I don't want all the music on my phone in the mix, just most of it. Eventually I will make various "channels" like hard/fast and soft/slow, maybe a country-only playlist, etc., but for now it's just "Favorites". Wouldn't mind an EQ but it's not necessary. And it's got to display the metadata. I spend an ungodly amount of time getting that right. Album art, artist/band, album, title at least. Year and genre optional.
P.S.: Why do so many players make it so easy to accidentally set a song as a ringtone? Do they get paid every time you do this or something? (Yes, I know that sounds stupid.) Who wants a whole song, not just a 30 second clip of one, as a ringtone? If it's got an awesome intro ("Joker and the Thief" by Wolfmother springs to mind) maybe, but still, wouldn't you wanna crop it down first?
Try doubletwist ® player,
It's got iPod functions, for free!
Samsung Galaxy Gio
CM 7.2 20120325 (thanks 2 phiezx)
XDA Premium
Dont say 'thanks', just press the button
DoubleTwist is not free. There is a free version, but it is heavily crippled. It used to only charge extra for syncing, now it says you have to pay to see album covers, even the ones embedded in the file (though, it offered to let me see three for free!). What a crock. I actually tried it earlier today and was disgusted by how far DT has fallen. It used to be a good app.
I'm only interested in FREE music players. The old DoubleTwist would have been fine as the Pro feature is not one I need. But metadata support is a requirement, as I said. And if it has an EQ, that has to be on the free side -- another feature DT wants you to pay for.
Just for the record, poweramp is not the best,
(it's extremely quiet, voodoo louder has no effect on it, the gui is terrible, it lacks many useful features, and so much more)
Anyhoo, try Xplayer, it doesn't have all the features you might want, but the music quality is level with PlayerPro, the gui is pretty, but as I said, it lacks a few needed features.
You may also want to try;
N7P
Rocket Music Player

If you say MIUI player is ugly, there are a lot of themed ones. You can try UberMusic, a WP7 style. I personally use Xperia S music ported, see if that works for you
UberMusic and N7Player are not free..!
Curious about the Sony one. I used their launcher briefly. It was nice but light on the options.
I didn't know the MIUI player had themes. It was just black and white. I'm trying to remember what my problem with it was, because I loved it at first. I think it just had "favorites" of its own, songs in my Favorites playlist that it would play daily, and that playlist had 150+ songs. So even though my commute is half an hour, there is no excuse for it to play the same 2-4 songs every time. That isn't what shuffle is, it needs to be totally random.
XPlay is pretty ugly, but it says it has themes. I gotta hand it to 'em, they could have gone with black and grey like everybody else, but they went with orange on light grey. It's a bold choice. I might have to check it out to see what else they did differently. (Also, I'm old enough to remember when the cool electronics were silver, before they were white and beige, which is before black. 70s/80s, 90s, and 00s/10s respectively.)

I was going to recommend cubed too. It's pretty decent. My only real complaint would be the lock screen controls don't seem to work perfectly for me (I press the lock button and my normal lock screen appears, then disappears, then I have to press it again to get the lock screen controls to show). But that may just be my phone.
It's certainly a nice player.
I think that the best music player and 100% free is Stock android player + beats audio* + xloud* and maybe any equaliser - but xperia s stock player has equaliser so i cant give any examples of good ones.
*both are ported for android 2.3, just look for thread and zip file to flash

You're right, but we shouldn't forget that is "beta"
I forget what I didn't like about cubed. I'll have to try it again.
And I resent the implication that pirating a paid app is a valid solution to being dissatisfied with a couple free apps. There are so many free choices.

Never mind, cubed is cool. It doesn't have the playlist support I want but it will be cool on a road trip to quickly queue songs when we don't want a dumb playlist to pick for us. Thanks for that recommendation.

[Q] New Android user: I need advice about a good music player

Hello Everyone,
I just recently switched from an iPhone 4S and to a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. So far I'm enjoying my experience. I experimented with Android in the past by buying a Nexus One when it was first released. Didn't enjoy the experience for a few reasons, but my main concern was with the way Android handled music. We're talking Eclair and Froyo days, now.
Recently, I ordered a beat-up, used Nexus One to travel overseas and found that Gingerbread had ironed out a lot of the music woes than it's firmware predecessors had. Mainly, the "unknown artist" thing, that I couldn't find any help.
Right now, I'm searching for a good music player that has specific features. Remember I'm an iOS user, and some of this stuff they had in their stock music app. Right now, I'm using "Android Music", not "Google Music", mind you. The reason for this, is because I'm familiar with it from my N1 days. I know there are better apps out there, but I don't want to download 100 apps that don't do exactly, or at least mostly want I want to do.
So here's the meat of the conversation, I'm looking for a music player that can do the following:
1. Transition between songs to be seamless, if the song is meant to blend into the next. (I don't want a stuttering version of Dark Side of the Moon)
2. Audio ducking. When I receive a message or an email, the music player I have now stops the song entirely. It's a jolt especially if you're driving and really annoying. This app needs to have audio ducking.
3. The ability to have voice control. I want to be able to hit the google mic button and say, "Play "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead" and it will play (sort of like what Siri does). But, as of iOS5, a huge annoyance I had with Siri is that she played JUST that song and didn't transition to the rest of the album. I've been testing beta 2 of iOS6 and it looks to have been fixed now. But I want that iOS6 feature with voice control. I know there are apps that do that, because my GN says there are when I try to request a certain song.
The rest of these are nice, but not deal breakers:
4. Perhaps a way to play audible formatted audiobooks? I'm not sure of the Android Version of the Audible app can download them offline, but I'd love to continue my audiobook addiction with Android.
5. A good, easy to use UI. Going from a 3.5 inch to a 4.6 inch phone is a big transition. I drive a good distance to work, and I want to be able to change songs and such without pancaking your grandma.
Those are my requests. I know that the Google Music app seems to have replaced the old music app that I'm using, but I don't want to use Google Music as my main driver. For a while now, I've been uploading to GM and I know there is an ability to download them offline. It's cool feature if I'm in a bunch, but I don't want to have to do that all the time. I like keeping a significant amount of songs on my phone at all times, and I don't want to have to scroll through a bunch of stuff I'm not currently listening in heavy rotation. It wastes time and remember, your grandma's life is at stake if I'm behind the wheel.
It sounds sort of picky, but I'd expect that from a lot of Android users, because I was picky on iOS. I jailbroke the very first iPhone even before it had an app store, and I did it every time I had the chance. I love options. At this point it seems like the stock app for music on Android is not cutting it for me, but I know there are options out there. Please advise, and thank you very much for your help, and reading my ramblings.

[Q] Music "lag" problem on CyanogenMod 10.1/10.2

Hi,
when playing music on Jelly Bean on my Evo 3D there seem to occur random "lags", at which no music is playing. These lags are shorter than a second, but still very annoying. A few seconds there is music without problem, then these quirks, then music again... Any idea what I could do to fix or work around this?
Thanks,
exic
This appears both with and without headphones fwiw.
does it happen while screen is off? and on every player?
Had the same issue, I guess its over taxing the evo's ram or CPU, so I just purchased a new moto x as my USB port also was playing games, makes the evo feel old

Yes, it happens when screen is off. Tried Mortplayer and the pre-installed Apollo, both had this issue. I found out that enabling airplane mode at least mitigates the problem.
Might be CPU, I enabled dev options and then CPU usage. Load was quite high when it appeared, however I wasn't able to detect a definite correlation. I guess android is supposed to get its priorities right, so that the active process gets all the resources it needs.
Incredibly annoying and happens here too.
